1. Set An Intention

These are the three fundamental principles that I use because I work remotely and am “Crushing It” on a daily basis. Firstly, I have set an Intention to work from home and be fully focused, purposeful, and invested in successfully doing so. My action is to create a dedicated working space. My behavior is to dress appropriately as if I am going to an office.

2. Create A Positive Environment

Working remotely for some is a new fun yet challenging venture, for others that is their way of life, what is the fuss about? The financial industry has been ahead of the curve of this pre and post-COVID work-from-home event. It was interesting to see that some find it difficult to motivate themselves into the work mindset. Here are a few tips from the seasoned professionals that have been put together to help you stay motivated, and positive while working remotely, you are not alone, so embrace this as you jump out of bed to start the day: 1. Create a Dedicated Workspace 2. Set a Routine Dress the Part 3. Break Tasks into Smaller Steps 4. Use a Task List or Planner 5. Minimize Distractions 6. Take Regular Breaks 7. Stay Connected 8. Set Goals and Rewards 9. Maintain a Healthy Work-Life Balance 10. Exercise Regularly 11. Reflect on Your Progress. Experiment with these strategies to find what works best for you. Motivation can fluctuate, but establishing good habits and a positive environment can help you stay on track.

3. Establish A Clear Daily Routine

Establish a clear daily routine that aligns with your peak energy hours. Prioritise tasks with high impact and delegate or automate where possible. Set boundaries to avoid distractions, and make sure to schedule regular breaks to recharge every 30 minutes. Finally, stay connected to your vision and remind yourself daily why you’re doing this to keep driving your momentum forward!

4. Write Things Down

Find new ways to stay on track. Focusing on your tasks takes a lot of responsibility when the world around you may tease you to do other things. First, you need to set up the rules in writing with your leadership team on how and when to report. You should also get your mission, and what is your work in writing.

A great way to keep track and stay in line is to brainstorm at the end of your workday about what you shall do the next day. At that time, you know fresh in your mind where you are in the process. And write that down. This will help you stay motivated and always do good work you can be proud of.

5. Bring Joy Into Your Workspace

Giving my team the opportunities in their work makes working such a joy that it doesn't matter if they are working remotely or not. My thing is that when you are doing the kind of work that you love then the place or location should not be a driving factor.

Plus, the thing is that while working remotely, you get to decide how to bring joy into your workspace which hopefully helps to honor the type of work that you are doing and that makes it easier to concentrate on the work and not the location.

6. Keep Your Focus

You tell yourself you’ll check out your social media feed for five minutes. But those five minutes turn into an hour or two as you comment, like, read and watch the time away. Meanwhile, deadlines are looming and the work isn't any closer to getting done. You feel a sense of panic when you notice what time it is and realize you're looking at an all-nighter again.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Breaks are healthy and encouraged. When you’re sitting down for work, though, you want to be focused on the task at hand, so time doesn't creep away from you but works with you. So, how can you minimize the bountiful distractions that sit at your fingertips and increase your productivity instead?

First, put your laptop, PC, tablet, and phone in “focus” mode. This feature will allow you to stay on track. You can even choose a length of time to keep this mode on for. I would suggest doing it in 45 to 60-minute increments and then taking a break for 15 to 30 minutes before you put your attention toward a new task, or continue on with a more challenging one.

The focus mode isn’t the only thing you want to turn on, though. Next, install an app that will restrict what you can access as you work. You might think you have great willpower, but the internet has even greater distractions.

A good restriction app will not only block websites and apps across your devices, but it will also allow you to set a time length, be annoying to disable or alert you when you’re veering off track, give you data reports on your activity, and offer up some form of encouragement to keep you going. Do your own research to find one that will work best for your needs; however, if you’re looking for the most popular ones to get you started, I can recommend Freedom, Session, Toggl, and RescueTime.

7. Decorate And Organize Your Space

Working from home can make it difficult to stay on task and be fully present with your work. Having a separate or dedicated space for your work can help your mind separate your personal and work lives, resulting in an increase in productivity. Some tips for organizing and preparing your workspace include: having a separate space (if possible), decorating and organizing the space as you would in an office, and, as simple as it sounds, closing the door while you're working. This limits potential distractions, as well as creates a physical barrier between your work and personal lives.

8. Maintain A Healthy Work-life Balance

It’s vital to create a structured routine that fosters focus and efficiency. Start by setting up a dedicated workspace that’s free from distractions, which signals to your brain that it’s time to work. Break your tasks into manageable chunks using methods like Pomodoro to maintain energy and avoid burnout. Regular breaks are key to recharging and maintaining creativity. Utilize digital tools for task management and clear communication with your team to stay aligned and productive. Finally, enforce strict boundaries between work and personal time, ensuring you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
