Women trying to conceive often go to acupuncture to stimulate the flow of energy to their womb. This often entails leaving work and going to another appointment with an already hectic schedule. The beauty of yin yoga is that you can achieve similar results right from the comfort of your own home, without the needles.

Bernie Clark, a key figure in popularizing yin yoga, particularly in Canada, explains how yin yoga stimulates the flow of energy through acupressure. While not as precise as acupuncture, yin yoga involves massaging, compressing, or stretching the tissues along the meridian lines to stimulate energy flow and rebalance the body. This is vital for ensuring that the womb is open, warm, and receptive, allowing energy to flow unobstructed by any "issues in our tissues."

The yielding style of yin yoga allows for deep, conscious, and nourishing breaths that direct your attention and awareness to sensations in the body. It is the opportunity to become comfortable with the uncomfortable and breathe into discomfort. The more that we can practice this on our yoga mat the easier it is to navigate fertility challenges off of our mat.

Trying to conceive is inherently stressful so it is paramount to work with the nervous system to come out of fight or flight mode into rest and digest mode. This is the optimal place for conception to occur. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system allows the body to reset so that it can release relaxation hormones versus stress hormones. By returning the body to this state of homeostasis and embodying practices like yin yoga regularly, you return to your natural state of being which your body and brain remember.

If your nervous system is seeking reprieve on your fertility journey feel free to experience a yin yoga class on the health and wellness platform Vibly. Additionally I invite you to join us for our Spring Awakening Virtual Yoga Retreat where bliss awaits you from head to toe for an all-over relaxing glow on Saturday, March 30 at 9:00 AM PST. Embody feeling refreshed and restored by participating in this retreat (which includes TaiChi Yoga Flow, Face Yoga, Yin Yoga, and a Yoga Nidra Meditation with Sacred Sound Bowl Ceremony) from the sanctuary of your home. Reserve your virtual mat here.
