One particular issue that needs to be addressed is the prevalence of generic resumes that fail to stand out in the sea of online resume portals. Far too often, job seekers focus on "customizing" their resumes by using subjective and overused terms like "hardworking," "dedicated," "committed," and "team player." Similarly, career coaches often fill resumes with action words like "managed," "directed," "liaised," and "communicated" without providing tangible evidence of the results achieved in their work.
This approach perpetuates a flawed model where job seekers believe that they will have the opportunity to showcase their talent and abilities during interviews. However, the harsh reality is that many job seekers never even receive the chance to interview due to the lack of attention-grabbing resumes. What inspired you to start your own business and become a consultant/coach?
Back in 2006, a pivotal moment led me to take the leap into entrepreneurship. After single-handedly generating a remarkable $760,000 in revenue for a recruitment firm the previous year (five times more than any other employee), I found myself receiving paltry commission and a measly Christmas bonus of cheese and crackers. It wasn't the cheese and crackers that bothered me the most, but rather the profound lack of appreciation for my hard work and contributions. Regrettably, this lack of recognition is all too common in the corporate world, underscoring the urgency of landing your dream job now!
This disheartening experience pushed me to make a significant decision. I made the courageous choice to resign from that job and dedicate the following three months to nurturing my entrepreneurial aspirations. To my astonishment, my venture proved immensely fruitful, enabling me to surpass my previous income as an employee with commissions and bonuses by more than triple the amount.
This transformative experience not only fueled my desire for independence but also ignited a burning passion within me.
