Diana Liliana Arlett, Holistic Therapist, Writer, and Public Policy Advocate

Introduce yourself! Please tell us about you and your life, so we can get to know you better. (Feel free to share your hobbies, your passions, your family life, your pets, and anything that makes you unique.)

I am a holistic therapist, life coach, author/writer, and public policy development specialist, originally from Melbourne, Australia.

My journey into holistic wellness and personal development started in my early 20s. I was introduced to yoga, Pilates, meditation, hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, energy healing, and herbal medicines by a close friend.

Learning about holistic living, alternative therapies, and behavioural change became my biggest hobby. I completed my first yoga teacher training in India over a decade ago and started experimenting with various styles of yoga, breathwork, energy healing, and meditation.

The practices helped me achieve big life goals, like completing two master’s degrees concurrently while working full-time as a policy development specialist and running a small international business. They also helped me with some of my own health issues when conventional medicine failed.

I am passionate about holistic therapies because they are highly effective, toxin-free, and lead to rapid healing and personal transformation. They can be used in everyday life to help pretty much anyone live a better quality of life.

For me, holistic wellness isn’t just about what you are eating and drinking, placing on your skin, or how you are exercising. It is about feeling well, having a deep sense of appreciation for who you are in your most authentic form, and learning to nurture all aspects of self. I help people find that sweet spot.

What inspired you to become a holistic therapist and personal trainer?

I got into holistic wellness in my early 20s. I had struggled with a severe eating disorder for over a decade, and a close friend suggested I try some elimination diets, repair my gut, and start practicing yoga and meditation. I also began undertaking kinesiology and hypnotherapy and using herbal products to support my own wellbeing. The connection between the mind and the body is so strong. I really wanted to use my knowledge and personal experiences to help other people feel their best.

What kind of audience do you target your business towards?

At the moment, I am running two small businesses. One focuses on physical wellbeing (yoga, Pilates, strength training, meditation, hypnotherapy, and CBT), while the other helps people reconnect with their most authentic self and build a life centred around the things they love. I developed my life coaching program after reading a staggering piece of research that suggested 93% of Australians self-reported feeling a lack of purpose post-COVID while I was working for the Deputy Secretary for Economic Recovery in Victoria. I predominantly work with females aged 16 and above who feel like they want more out of life.

Can you explain how hypnotic meditation helps in overcoming negative patterns?

Hypnotic meditation allows you to meditate in a way that rewires your subconscious thought patterns. The benefits of meditation have long been known, and it is common for people to use meditation to regain a sense of calm or connection to source. If you think about it, most people who meditate do it because it brings them a feeling of mental clarity or stress relief and improves their focus.

That is great, but I believe true magic happens when we focus on permanently rewiring thought processes and behaviours that cause mental fog, stress, or agitation. The key difference is that hypnotic meditation seeks to address someone’s emotional wounds or triggers rather than simply provide relief from them. They feel exactly the same; however, in hypnotic meditation, the dialogue listened to alongside healing frequency music is designed to alter thought processes at the subconscious level.

This has been effective in healing some of my clients suffering from eating disorders, trauma, and anxiety. It can also be used to help you stick to your diet, gain motivation to work out, sleep more, or drink water.

What would you like to achieve for yourself and your business in the future?

I would love to help as many people as possible, write more books, and have a purpose-built retreat space somewhere in Indonesia.

What can someone expect from a private yoga session with you?

I normally start by understanding their level of experience and where their body is holding tension or pain. I then develop a sequence specifically for them and teach them how to do it.

My favourite thing about yoga is that it feels like a moving meditation as you start to flow and get used to the movements. It is helpful for improving imbalances across both sides of the body, and the best benefit is that it provides significant mental health benefits. I like my clients to walk away from the session with a good understanding of the asanas that make up their sequence and the associated benefits. Yoga is a great practice that can be used to offset tension and muscular pain that can come post-training.

What is your work inspired by?

My work is inspired by wanting to help people feel good and achieve their goals.

How do you tailor diet and nutrition plans to complement individual training programs?

I provide nutritional guidance for my clients and tell them how much they need to eat to hit their training goals. Sports nutrition is important. For example, it is essential to make sure you are eating enough calories to support growth if you want to build muscle.

I also encourage my clients to send some of their hair off to a lab to get tested so they can identify any sensitivities to foods, metals, etc., they may have. The lab sends back a report outlining what to avoid and what to consume according to their unique makeup. This is helpful because eating foods you are sensitive or intolerant to can have a significant impact on your stomach and mind.

If a client needs to see a sports nutritionist or dietitian to gain detailed knowledge of what to eat, I refer them to one.

If you could change one thing about your industry, what would it be and why?

We are all so unique. I think it is really important to focus on your own journey. What works for one person may not work for another. This is why I focus on creating integrated wellness plans that help my clients set realistic goals and strike personal balance.

Could you share more about the benefits of Timeline Therapy in personal development?

Timeline Therapy was developed by Tad James and is an advanced healing technique that uses tools from NLP and hypnosis to work with the mind at the unconscious level.

It is based on the principle that all problems essentially only exist in the present moment, despite their cause typically being rooted in the past. It is a powerful and life-changing process, even though it only takes a short time to perform.

If we think of our life visually, it can be represented as a horizontal line annotated with all events from the past, present, and future. It is like a path that represents everything that has happened to us in chronological order.

We all have our own unique timeline, and it influences our behaviour at both conscious and subconscious levels. Although the events in the future have not yet unfolded, the meaning we have assigned to past situations has a substantial impact by influencing the course of action we take as our lives progress.

When we explore events using Timeline Therapy, we can tap into the timeline and let go of the attachments we have created to certain events, including emotions like fear, anger, guilt, or sorrow. We can also use it to help shift limiting, unhelpful beliefs that stop us from achieving our highest potential. Additionally, it can be used to create new programs and internal dialogues that propel us forward to a more empowered future.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Somewhere tropical, drinking a coconut.
