7 reasons why your business book should also be an audio book.

1. The audio book industry is now worth 3.2 billion USD. Audio books were slow in popularity but since Covid thrust itself at us globally in 2020, the purchase of audio books exploded. Due to more downloadable access, combined with many of us being forced to work from home, has led to audio books outdoing eBooks. Is your book getting a piece of that pie?

2. Are you, or is someone you know a book maven? A book maven is somebody who is a connoisseur of information. An expert who consumes words and stories at phenomenal speed and retains what they have read. When people have a question, they often go to the maven in their life. Many book mavens do this by listening. They listen to stories in the car, whilst walking, cooking and so forth. If you have an audio book, not only will you make money selling the audio version, you’ll make additional money through the recommendations of book mavens who listened to the audio version. Another piece of the pie is granted through recommendations.

3. Keep the opportunity going. If your book is recommended, particularly by an influential person, you or your publishers need to have copies on hand. This can particularly be difficult to navigate and at times it’s not always feasible to keep hundreds or thousands of books in stock. eBooks can protect you from this, but audio books also protect you as well. If an influential person does recommend your book, there will never be a downloadable shortage. Your book is automatically there with the purchaser granted immediate access.

4. Audio books boost paperback and eBook sales. If people love your audio book, chances are they will want to purchase your book in other mediums. If an influencer recommends your book, they will often buy additional copies as a paperback. Have you ever purchased a copy of a book after listening to it?

5. Audio books give you access to non-readers. For many reasons, not everyone is a reader. You could simply be an auditory learner, or you may be dyslexic. You could be visually impaired and whilst some books can be made into braille, not many are. If you have an audio book, the pie of potential readers gets bigger.

6. It’s a crowded space. How difficult has it been to find a book you want on the shelves? Or on Amazon? Having an audio book makes you easier to find. It’s the best way to break your book out of the crowd and be seen, or should I say heard. Have you ever looked for a book only to find there was no audio available? But then you see a competing one in audio? Which one was purchased? You need to get your piece of the pie.

7. Audio books are cheap and easy to make. Audio books were once the most expensive way to produce a book. But now with changes in technology and programs made available, the producing of audio books has become so much more viable.

Are you ready to have your share of the pie?
