Executive Contributor Rahma Farah

There’s a moment I always return to, a quiet pause after bedtime, when the house is still and I sit with both gratitude and longing. Gratitude for the children I raise, and longing for the kind of world I want them to inherit, one that truly sees, understands, and nurtures neurodivergent minds with cultural compassion. It was in one of those pauses that Prospering Minds Consultancy was born not just as a business, but as an extension of everything I’ve lived, studied, and come to believe in. My business is me and I am my business.

A woman is speaking in front of a seated audience, viewed from behind, in a well-lit, professional setting.

I am a mother, a Somali woman, a Behaviour Analyst and Sleep Consultant, and co-founder of Somali Behaviour Analysis Association (SBAA), navigating multiple identities. My journey into behavioural science began with a passion for understanding human behaviour and improving outcomes for children with additional needs. Like many others, I stumbled into this career after deciding to change from teaching. Over the years, while supporting families and working across international and diverse communities, I witnessed a clear gap: while interventions were often evidence-based, they weren’t always people-based. The cultural context was missing. Lived experience wasn’t always valued. And families like mine, navigating both faith and neurodivergence, were often left feeling unseen.

Honouring science and humanity

With certifications in Behaviour Analysis and extensive applied practice, I specialised in delivering individualised interventions for children with autism and developmental needs. Working across clinics, schools, and home settings taught me not only the precision of behaviour analytic methods but also the irreplaceable value of cultural humility. Effective interventions do not exist in a vacuum; they exist within human lives, layered with beliefs, values, histories, and hopes.

I began to realise that if we ignored culture, we weren't just missing details, we were missing opportunities for real connection and sustainable change.

The personal lens: A mother and a soul

My own experiences deepened this perspective. As a mother raising my children within a faith-centred Somali household, I understood the unique tensions parents face: advocating for children’s needs while also upholding cultural traditions, religious practices, and communal values. I saw firsthand how mainstream behavioural models often didn't account for the rich complexities of multicultural families. I also experienced the emotional labour of translating my children's needs across systems that were not always built for them.

My faith and heritage taught me resilience, community care, and compassion. But it was my motherhood that ignited my purpose: to create services where no family would have to choose between their cultural identity and their child’s growth. This is my story.

Aside from experiencing cultural differences when delivering behavioural interventions, I have also experienced a lack of representation in my work. Despite there being a constant glass ceiling looming above me, I took this leap of faith to start my own business, ensuring no limit to my opportunities and growth.

Establishing Prospering Minds Consultancy

Prospering Minds Consultancy was founded as a response and a dream. I dared to dream. I dared to dream big. In my dream, I was limitless. The launch of my business was a response to those who made me feel limited, those that told me to not pursue my career or education as I am a mother.

Prospering Minds Consultancy stands on the belief that evidence-based practices must coexist with cultural competence and deep empathy. Here, we don't just apply strategies; we build bridges. We don't ask families to assimilate into systems; we adapt systems to uplift families.

Every part of our model is about empowerment, dignity, and belonging, whether you come from a multicultural background or simply seek services that honour the whole child.

Our services: A reflection of our values

At Prospering Minds Consultancy, our services reflect a holistic philosophy:

  • Behaviour consultancy: Individualised, strengths-based behavioural support that honours cultural traditions, family dynamics, and the lived realities of each client.

  • Sleep consulting: Gentle, inclusive support for children aged 0–6 years, respecting diverse parenting approaches, and understanding of any cultural or faith backgrounds.

  • Neurodiversity coaching: Empowering children, parents, and professionals to embrace neurodivergence, fostering confidence, advocacy, and authentic living to young adult neurodivergent.

Each service is rooted in scientific rigour yet delivered with the flexibility, humility, and care that true community work demands.

When we truly honour each child's identity, we are not just changing lives, we are changing systems.

A vision beyond business

Prospering Minds Consultancy is more than a business; it is a movement toward equity, representation, and hope.

I envision a world where all families feel fully seen, respected, and supported in professional spaces and outside.

Where interventions are no longer one-size-fits-all but tailored with intentionality. Where children’s differences are not pathologised but embraced.

In the future, I dream of expanding internationally, training culturally aware practitioners, and creating programs that uplift marginalized communities. I dream of nurturing a generation of children who grow up knowing they were never "too different", they were always destined to prosper.

Prospering Minds Consultancy is the beginning of that dream, and I am honoured to walk this journey with every family, every child, and every community that believes in a world where everyone can thrive heart, mind, and soul.
