Do you really know who you are? Are your presumptions of “me”, your emotional, social, physical self, based on the ideas of what others say or want? Do societal stereotypes and personalized judgements influence who and what we desire for ourselves?

We all wear many hats. Each hat speaks to a piece of us, but each piece does not speak to the entirety of “me” – the picture of who we are internally. We wear the business, parental, friend, son/daughter, and wife/husband hat. We all possess varying perceptions of reality – our own and others – but what happens when we connect the possibility of being all that we can be in all areas of life and living wholeheartedly to the true essence of our being.

Would you believe me if I said this is entirely possible? I would like to share with you 5 small steps to your true self that encompasses living a life based on your own personalized core value system and approaching each day with optimism and guidance from your higher self.

  1. Listen to your inner guidance: what parts of your day leaves knots in your stomach, and what parts of your daily routine leave you feeling happy and optimistic?

  2. What is it that creates a feeling of joy: get to know this feeling and recognize what engages this emotion?

  3. Write to this feeling and understand what core value this emotion is related to: is it honesty, loyalty, compassion, joy?

  4. Find your core value: where in life is this missing?

  5. What steps could you make to transition from experiencing a knot in your stomach to a feeling of pure happiness?

Listen to your body; it will supply you with subtle signs of when you are veering away from your natural being. Stop and breath; take a moment to refocus your attention. Listen to the guidance from above; what is drawing you in and what is dragging you along? Life is all about choices. We have the freedom of choice, however; each moment brings us to a lesson or blessing. When we follow the path set out by our guides, we will notice that the lessons are far and few between and the blessings increase. We notice that the things we are here to learn can be simple instructions and not necessarily traumatic events.
