In a world that glorifies hustle and constant movement, we often overlook the spaces in between the moments when nothing appears to be happening, yet everything is still moving. These are the liminal spaces, the pauses, the fertile voids where potential quietly gathers its strength.

A serene night scene captures a starry sky reflecting over a calm lake, with rugged cliffs and forested hills illuminated on one side.

Think about the space between breaths, that tiny pause where the world seems to hold its breath, too. It’s the calm before the first note of a song, the silence before a word is spoken, the stillness before a seed breaks the surface.

Yet, how often do we rush through these moments, anxious for the next big revelation, the next visible sign of progress? In a world that celebrates doing over being, we forget: the in-between holds the real alchemy. Not in the rush, but in the stillness, is where true transformation begins.

A personal experience: Finding meaning in the in-between

I remember a time when I had just completed my National Boards for wellness coaching. It felt like such a monumental achievement, yet immediately after, I was thrust into the liminal space of job searching.

For months, I was caught in the tedium of applications, interviews, and waiting, feeling like my life had been put on hold. Each day felt like a question mark, a hovering void where nothing was moving forward. The space between where I was and where I wanted to be felt heavy, frustrating, and unproductive.

I didn’t realize that this in-between was a sacred space of preparation. The seeds of my next chapter were being planted, even though I couldn’t see them yet. That season of stillness and uncertainty was quietly laying the foundation for my new role as a Clinical Skills Instructor at Red Rocks Community College.

Looking back, I can see how much was happening beneath the surface, connections were forming, opportunities were aligning, and I was being prepared to step into a role that would deepen my purpose and expand my reach.

The in-between may feel empty, but it is often the space where everything is being rearranged to support our next step.

The initiation: Entering the in-between

Every major transformation begins with an initiation, an entry into the in-between. It’s the moment when the old falls away, but the new hasn’t fully formed yet. This phase can feel like a void, a space of uncertainty where the ground beneath you feels unsteady and unfamiliar.

But in truth, this is where the alchemy of transformation happens. It is the dark womb where seeds gather their pulse, their purpose, and their fire.

During initiation, we are invited to:

  • Release what no longer serves us, creating fertile ground for new intentions.

  • Sit in the discomfort of the unknown, trusting that the path is being woven beneath us.

  • Listen to the whispers of intuition, the subtle guidance that only arises in the quiet.

What if the in-between isn’t empty at all? What if it’s a sacred holding space where the dream is being dreamt, the path is being paved, and the self is being remade?

Anchoring in the void: Grounding in uncertainty

Once we have been initiated into the in-between, the next step is to anchor into it to find stillness and stability amidst the unknown. Anchoring doesn’t mean holding on; it means allowing ourselves to be held.

  • Breath as anchor: Breathe in deeply, feeling the pause between each inhale and exhale. Notice the stillness.

  • Nature as anchor: Spend time in nature, observing the way trees stand rooted, even when the winds shift.

  • Intention as anchor: Write down your intentions, not as a to-do list, but as a declaration of what you’re ready to receive.

When we anchor ourselves in the in-between, we find clarity in the void. We connect to the quiet pulse of life beneath the surface, the hidden thread of what is emerging.

The fertile void: Where dreams are born

It’s that place where potential is still unnamed, where the thread hasn’t yet woven into form, but it’s vibrating with everything it could be. It’s the pause before the first note of a song, the breath before the first word is spoken.

And in that space, there’s no rush, no urgency, just this soft, deep holding. The ground whispers to the seed, “Take your time. You’re already becoming.”

Do you feel that too? That the quiet is alive, not empty, but brimming with the ache and promise of what’s waiting to be born?

The stillness speaks: What the quiet can teach us

When we allow ourselves to remain in the in-between, we can:

  • Reconnect with our inner voice, hearing what’s been drowned out by the noise of urgency.

  • Discern what is truly ours to carry forward and what can be released.

  • Anchor deeper into our intentions, rather than scattering our energy by chasing the next thing.

Psychologically, liminal spaces can evoke feelings of uncertainty, discomfort, or even unease. However, they also present a profound opportunity for self-reflection and growth. According to a study on The Psychology Behind Liminal Space, these transitional periods can actually foster resilience and personal development when approached mindfully (Verywell Mind).

A question for reflection

What if the quiet is not empty, but brimming with the ache and promise of what’s waiting to emerge?

The next time you find yourself in the in-between, instead of rushing to the next thing, pause, breathe, and listen. You’re already becoming.

Stepping into your in-between

Are you feeling caught in the in-between? Are you in a season where nothing seems to be moving, yet everything is quietly shifting beneath the surface?

At Altered Haven, I help clients navigate these liminal spaces through energy recalibration, wellness coaching, and practices that bring clarity to the unknown.

  • Clarity sessions: Explore how to ground in uncertainty and open to the guidance emerging from the void.

  • Energy recalibration: Release what’s holding you back and align with your next chapter.

  • Intuitive readings: Connect with the deeper messages of the in-between through soul retrieval, Akashic records, and energetic mapping.

  • Customized journeys: If you feel stuck in the void, let’s work together to transform this space into a fertile ground for growth and clarity.

You’re not stuck. You’re in the in-between, the place where everything is still possible.

Consumer Loans in the Euro Area Remain More Than Twice as Expensive as Mortgages — and the Baltics Stand Out

Fresh figures from the European Central Bank (ECB) underline a growing divide between everyday borrowing and housing finance across Europe.
