It can be very tempting to focus on the end result instead of the process that will guide you to the desired outcome. While it is important to first identify your target, we need to take a deep breath and define the wins that need to occur along the way.

The image shows a bearded man in a business outfit, wearing a light blue shirt and a striped tie, sitting at a table in a modern office with a brick wall background.

Three important steps along the way to your ultimate goal

1. Slow down, be mindful

The competitor in us wants to get out of the gates strong and charge ahead. While this desire to win is a strength, slowing down and being mindful of defining the process to win should come first. Defining the process causes you to think strategically and can allow you to examine the most efficient route. When we jump into things with automatic energy, we may miss a few key steps and not manage our time in the best manner. Our time is one of our most valuable assets, so take the time to eliminate unnecessary steps and maximize efficiency.

2. Identify a timeframe

As you define your process, it’s important to consider a realistic timeframe and factor in variables such as your work schedule, family time, and personal time. If your timeframe is too soon, you may find yourself rushed and flustered. If it’s too long, you may lose interest and motivation. There is a fine balance between being aggressive and being realistic. Find that balance and set yourself up to succeed with an attainable time frame.

3. Create positive momentum

Along your path towards your goals, momentum plays a big factor. Naturally, we gain confidence through achievement, and creating quick wins creates positive momentum. We feed off energy, and generating positive energy will keep you motivated and help you to stay on pace to achieve your goals.

Life is a journey, and as we evolve and strive towards maximizing our lives, it’s important to be intentional with how we can best design our path forward. By practicing mindfulness, carefully managing your time, and stacking up wins for yourself, you are setting yourself up well to achieve long-term success.
