Pearls are produced by molluscs with shells, usually oysters. When irritated by a foreign body, cells of the molluscs mantle secrete various components, which produce pearl.

Traditionally the pearl has been aligned with the female powers, especially those of nurturing, seduction and intuition. In astrology it is associated with the Moon and its mystical power. Cosmetic companies also use crushed pearls in lipstick and lip gloss for that luminescent glow and they are also used to make face powders.

The fact that the pearl is formed through a process of irritation in an animal reflects its association with emotional imbalances.

Pearls pathology stems from a lack of groundedness in the emotions. Pearls have been used to treat heart disease, indigestion, insomnia, headaches, mental illness, eye diseases and lung ailments. Some people consume them as a source of calcium and energy.

Even though Pearl is a product of the seas, its essential character is that of the earth as it is made principally from calcium and carbon and is protected inside a shell.

This unmistakeable protective power of the shell is inherent in the Pearl itself and was met by a number of provers for the homoeopathic immersion of Pearl.

Pearl represents wisdom gained through experience, luck and wealth, purity, integrity, nurturing, soothes and heals negativity. Seen as the symbol of femininity, patience, strength, power, associated with the Moon, water, cycles, Divine Light. Physically pearls are believed to aid muscular system conditions, pain & discomfort during childbirth, digestive disorders.
