Have you ever had to deal with a challenge and navigate through fear? Three years ago, I had to navigate through the most difficult time of my life so far. This was when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 32 years old and everything that I had built fell apart. I lost my full-time job, was going through a breakup, and had to temporarily receive social welfare as well.

A happy woman celebrating in front of her laptop.

This was the worst time in my life since every area of my life seemed to not be working out. I felt so lonely in this reality; it seemed like everyone else was doing so well! However, when I started to change my perspective on what I was going through, my state of being changed for the better.

The process of shifting your mindset from fear to faith

When you are going through a difficult time, you may be going through a period of denial and positioning yourself as a victim. While you may feel sorry for yourself, staying in that state of mind and being won’t actually serve you. In fact, it will hinder you more than anything. Here is a four-step process that you can follow to move through your current fear toward believing in a positive outcome for the future.

1. Accept what you are going through. This involves recognizing that you can't change the situation, and you need to embrace it in order to move forward in the best way possible.

2. Take a proactive role in your healing process or any other situation you may be in. You can always look into what you can do to help yourself in your particular situation. In my situation, it meant that I looked at my nutrition and mind-body-brain connection practices. 3. Focus on your wins or anything that is positive. This involves focusing on any win, whether big or small. In fact, the smaller, the better, since there are often more of those. A win is any improvement that you notice in a particular area of your life. For example, I celebrated when my blood test results were good while I was going through chemotherapy. 4. Celebrate your wins like there is no tomorrow! This involves cherishing any win and fully celebrating the improvements that you are seeing in your life as your outlook starts to shift!

That being said, it’s helpful to cultivate a certain mindset and way of being and gain perspective in order to navigate this turbulent time and successfully follow the four-step process outlined above.

More tips to help you set yourself up for success to shift your mindset from fear to faith:

  • Take it day-by-day This means that you are not preoccupying yourself with what needs to get done tomorrow or in a few weeks. You simply focus on what you need to accomplish during that particular day.

  • Let go of any expectations that you may have This will help you detach from the outcome of any situation and will reduce the probability of feeling too disappointed about a particular situation.

  • Practice being in the present moment This means that you are focusing on an activity in the here and now rather than putting your focus on situations from the past or worrying about the future. For example, you can do a breathing exercise and focus on the air coming into and out of your nostrils.

  • Notice and become aware of any changes in your health or other areas of your life Noticing changes is important as it will help you get feedback on the actions that you are taking and give you an opportunity to change your plan or take different action steps if need be.

  • Practice looking at the glass being half full rather than empty This will help you cultivate a more positive state of mind and being. Focusing on the positive also helps you elevate your emotions and energetic vibration.

  • Try not to believe your negative, disempowering thoughts and work to replace them with positive and empowering ones This will help you become more proactive towards your goals and desires as you will feel more empowered than before.

To sum it up, you start to move towards faith when you choose to start seeing evidence that things are improving in your life. However, it’s important to note that you get to decide what is considered to be an improvement in your life. This is why focusing on little wins is very important; each one acts as a building block towards creating your new resilient and empowered mindset! You can then watch your life start to change for the better as a result.
