We still have a long way to go, since the suffragettes, campaigned and marched relentlessly securing the right for all women to vote in 1928.

Unsurprisingly, women in the 21st century are still fighting for equal pay globally. Hence, world bank has confirmed that gender bias and inequality has kept women in low paid occupations that has contributed significantly to the gender gap in terms of caregiving responsibilities, hours worked and maternity policies, which could alarmingly cost the world economy around 7 trillion.

For centuries, women i.e. (entrepreneurs, company directors, teachers, and lawyers), have been left carrying the can, in terms of having to juggle between work and family life.

In a recent YouGov survey, over 54% of women mentioned that they do most of the cleaning and laundry in comparison to 8% of men.

Culturally, although some men in the West now enjoy cooking, thanks to the likes of Jamie Oliver, 34% of women are still having to do most of the cooking. However, this differs tremendously, in terms of culture, especially within some ethnic minority communities where women tend to do more than 60% of the cooking.

In light with the changes in terms of gender, whether we refer to ourselves as ‘they’, ‘them’, ‘we’, bisexual, gay, straight, I am happy to be a woman and I make no apologies.

I was in uproar, like many other women, when it was suggested that the term ‘women’, can now be offensive and considered an ugly word. We have fought too hard to have a seat at the table and we need to ensure that our heroines did not fight in vain.

To all women around the world, I celebrate you!
