They say life’s most stressful events are death, divorce, and moving. I’ve lived through all three, sometimes all at once, and I can attest to their power to shake your foundation. These transitions force you to confront not just external challenges but also your inner strength. They’re difficult there’s no sugarcoating that, but they’re also defining moments.

A nearly completed white jigsaw puzzle has one missing piece, which is being placed into the empty spot.

When I reflect on my journey, I realize how intertwined these experiences are with resilience. Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about pushing forward, even when you feel like you’ve hit a wall. I didn’t always know I had that kind of strength in me, but these moments taught me to find it.

The weight of change

I’ll never forget one particular day: I was sitting in a conference room for my third and final divorce mediation while my best friend of 38 years was being buried in another city. That same day, I was also preparing to move. Death, divorce, and moving life’s trifecta of stress all converged on me at once.

I drove four hours the night before to pay my respects at her memorial, knowing I couldn’t attend her funeral. It was a heart-wrenching choice, but one of many I’ve had to make while juggling personal loss and professional responsibility. That day, I learned an important lesson: grief and change are inevitable, but how we carry them matters.

The need for support

Through these transitions, I leaned heavily on the people around me. My parents, who taught me the value of hard work and determination, were my first role models in resilience. As immigrants, they left everything behind to build a new life in the United States. Their courage inspires me to this day.

When I lost my husband first to divorce and then to tragedy, it was the kindness of friends, family, and even my team at Ameritex Movers that helped me find my footing. There’s no shame in asking for help, whether it’s hiring a moving company to handle logistics, leaning on a therapist for emotional support, or simply sharing a cup of coffee with someone who listens without judgment.

Managing the logistics of a move, especially during a time of personal upheaval, can feel overwhelming. Whether you’re in Irving, Houston, Dallas, The Woodlands, or Katy, finding a reliable, professional moving company like Ameritex Movers can lift a huge burden. They’ve been a trusted partner for many who need assistance during life’s toughest transitions, offering a stress-free moving experience so you can focus on what matters most.

Finding growth in the pain

If I’ve learned anything, it’s that pain has a way of revealing who you are. After my divorce, I realized how much of myself I had set aside for the sake of partnership. Rediscovering my independence was both liberating and terrifying.

Similarly, moving, whether it’s across the city or to a new state, isn’t just about packing boxes. It’s about letting go of a chapter while writing the next one. It’s a fresh start, filled with possibilities you may not see right away.

When I think about death, I reflect on the legacy of those I’ve lost. My best friend taught me kindness; my former husband, partnership. Even in their absence, they continue to shape the person I am. Likewise, the transition of moving, such as relocating to a new place with Ameritex Houston, provides opportunities to start fresh, much like the other major life events we face.

Control what you can

During challenging times, it’s easy to feel like life is happening to you. But I found strength in focusing on what I could control. After my divorce, I channeled my energy into my business, making sure my personal struggles didn’t affect our team or customers.

When I was moving, I made detailed checklists one step at a time to turn the overwhelming into the manageable. Small victories, like unpacking a box or setting up a room, created a sense of progress that kept me grounded.

The team at Ameritex Movers offers more than just a truck and some boxes; they provide a steady hand when everything feels out of control. With their help, moving doesn’t have to feel like one more thing on a never-ending to-do list; it can be an organized, manageable process.

Being kind to yourself

In moments of stress, self-compassion becomes critical. For me, this meant accepting that I wasn’t perfect, that I couldn’t control everything, and that sometimes, just getting through the day was enough.

I remember a moment during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was running my business, managing family life, and preparing to make life-altering decisions. I was exhausted. In the shower one night, I broke down. As I bent to pick up a dropped bar of soap, one word came to me: resilient.

It became one of my mantras. Not because I felt strong in that moment, but because I realized strength wasn’t about feeling invincible, it was about choosing to move forward, no matter how heavy the burden.

Looking ahead

If you’re facing one of these life transitions, know this: it’s okay to feel lost. It’s okay to grieve what you’re leaving behind. But also know that every ending carries the seed of a beginning.

For me, resilience isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about acknowledging the messiness of life and finding a way through it. It’s about embracing change, not because it’s easy, but because it’s necessary for growth.

As a business leader and a woman who’s walked this path, I believe in the power of transitions to shape us into stronger, more compassionate people. Whether you’re mourning a loss, rebuilding after divorce, or starting over in a new home, give yourself the grace to take one step at a time.

And, if you're looking for a trusted moving partner in Houston or Dallas, Ameritex Movers and Ameritex Houston are here to help make your move stress-free.
