  • Penelope Ling, Solution-focused Hypnotherapist, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Penelope Ling grew up in the multicultural melting pot of London during the 60s and 70s. Working in newspapers and magazines as a graphics journalist and art editor, she later moved on to web design and e-commerce database building. Unhappy in the world of IT, she retrained as a solution-focused hypnotherapist in 2007.   Here she found that helping others sat well with her own value system. Having suffered from so many phobias over the years and conquering them during her training, it was a simple decision to help others overcome their limitations.   Later, she added nutritional therapy, as the connection between body and mind is vital in maintaining a positive mindset.   She has developed a reputation for helping those with fear of driving and in 2020 she published her book “Driving me crazy - overcome the fear of driving”. She has been a regular guest on BBC local radio and relevant podcasts talking about how your general stress affects fears and phobias, and a contributor to Happiful magazine and other nationals.   Her second specialty is to help those with phagophobia, a fear of swallowing, which also incorporates gagging and losing one’s ability to speak when addressing an audience. This has led her to a worldwide client base with a wide range of people, from one with brain damage because of a stroke, to top execs needing to perform public speaking duties.   Despite having dyslexia, Penelope recognises that many of us have something which makes us different and that doesn’t have to be a handicap. By finding solutions to these problems, we can overcome them. • Barry Borgerson, President and Chief Transformation Coach, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Dr. Barry Borgerson graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Ph.D. in computer science and one of his minors in the management of human resources. Barry co-led a multi-year DARPA-funded research project at the University and then went on to a highly successful career in the computer industry starting as a lead computer architect and progressing through successive promotions to increasingly responsible leadership positions in technical management up to executive-level general management. When he took over a business that was failing and initiated actions to change some dysfunctional behaviors and the outdated culture of that business, he encountered so much counterproductive resistance that he started a long-term study into why very smart, highly educated, and extremely experienced people frequently cannot enact externally obvious changes they need to make to succeed. That study led him to discover that the underlying cause of so many dysfunctional activities and the tenacious, normally uncontrollable, resistance to deep changes reside in enigmatic automatic human activities that business leaders normally do not notice, cannot change on their own if others point out their dysfunctions, and often deny they even exist. Barry then developed 2Selfs Theory, a comprehensive, business-friendly, generalized theory of the mind that models the sometimes cooperation but often competition between our explicit problem-solving abilities (using our “thinking self”) and our previously mysterious involuntary activities (driven by our “automatic self”) and provides systematic, reliable processes to align our elusive automatic actions with our explicit intentions and needed success priorities. Dr. Borgerson has repeatedly verified the effectiveness of the pragmatic 2Selfs Theory by applying it in many venues including through transformation coaching to reconstruct counterproductive behavior habits of business leaders and to change obsolete or dysfunctional company cultures, where the transformation processes worked immediately and repeatedly as the theory predicted. • Jenna McDonough, Emotional Regulation Specialist , Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Jenna McDonough is a meditation and mindfulness teacher, children’s book author, emotional regulation specialist, sound healer, and Reiki Master dedicated to helping people of all ages live more peaceful, present, and heart-centered lives. She works with adults and children to recognize, understand, and move through their emotions using tools such as meditation, mindfulness activities, somatic resets, breathwork, and sound and energy healing. Known for her trauma-sensitive approach, Jenna ensures that every product, service, and session she offers supports healing in a safe, accessible way, helping individuals move forward without the fear of triggering a trauma response. Believing that emotional regulation is the foundation for a kinder world, her mission is simple yet powerful: to make the world a nicer and more compassionate place, one meditation at a time. With a lifelong devotion to children’s well-being, Jenna has spent her entire adult life in service to young people, as a nanny, elementary school teacher, ESE teacher, tutor, and parent. Through these experiences, she witnessed firsthand how heavily education focuses on academics like reading, writing, and math, while often overlooking the essential skills of emotional awareness and regulation. Determined to bridge that gap, she began creating resources that meet children and families where they are–accessible, practical, and trauma-sensitive, designed to fit into daily life regardless of time, location, or circumstance. For adults, Jenna offers self-paced Meditation and Healing Arts courses, a meditation audio library via her app PEACEFUL: Mindful Moments for Every Age, as well as one-on-one support through her lifestyle design program. She also creates custom meditations tailored to individual needs and facilitates transformative healing sessions through meditation and sound baths, specializing in restoring balance and moving stuck energy in a safe, supportive environment. Each of these offerings reflects her commitment to making holistic healing and emotional well-being approachable, sustainable, and sensitive to the unique journeys of each person she works with. For children and caregivers, Jenna is the founder of PEACEFUL: Mindful Moments for Every Age, which includes Peaceful Kids, a first-of-its-kind emotional regulation resource designed to empower children aged 3-17. The app provides guided meditations, mindfulness activities, breathwork, somatic resets, and binaural beats to help kids navigate mornings, bedtimes, transitions, and every emotion in between. With age-specific, color-coded resources and caregiver support videos, Peaceful Kids ensures that children can safely and confidently integrate emotional regulation practices at their own developmental level. Jenna’s passion for literacy, emotional well-being, and kindness inspired her debut children’s book, Kind Kids: The Adventures of Hurley, Pearl, and the Pink Soldiers of Kindness. Blending her teaching background and healing arts expertise, the book weaves storytelling with practical emotional regulation techniques and encourages children to spread kindness through her Soldiers for Kindness Initiative. Through her multifaceted work–as a healer, educator, author, and innovator–Jenna McDonough continues to provide transformative, trauma-sensitive tools that nurture emotional intelligence, resilience, and compassion. Her work stands as a testament to the belief that when people learn to regulate their emotions in safe and supportive ways, they not only improve their own lives but also help create a kinder, more peaceful world for everyone. • Vivien Cottey, Soul Growth Facilitator, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

We are all perfect! Yes, we really are, not everyone may choose perfect behaviour, we all make mistakes, that’s being human. But we all have the necessary resources within us, to resolve any life issue we may struggle with. So why would anyone need a therapist? Well, sometimes we need others to guide us to access those inner resources. That’s where Vivien comes in!After a career in accounting and teaching the subject, Vivien found that a big part of her working life included liaising with people at many levels. She also noticed that everywhere she went people would share their problems with her. Then after a few complete strangers unexpectedly sharing their woes, she decided to get properly trained to effectively handle the personal information that people were passing on, so that they could benefit.Vivien has been working as a therapist for more than 10 years and through her work has found that as her unique combination of modalities (Master Practitioner of NLP [Neuro Linguistic Programming] and TLT™ [TimeLine Therapy], a Psychology Linguistics Coach/Therapist as well as a Hypnotherapist and Reiki Master) mixed with her strong intuition and empathy, means that her many clients have benefitted more than expected by working together at a very deep unconscious level. In nearly every case, clients have come to her with a specific problem, then soon after starting to work together, it rapidly becomes evident that there is another deep-rooted, unaddressed issue from further back in their past, usually an uncomfortable experience that got buried along with the associated negative emotions. This is a normal reaction, we are supposed to revisit the emotions for processing soon after, but invariably they get forgotten about. Our all-obliging unconscious looks after these emotions for us by burying them, until working with Vivien, where she has helped many clients bring their unwarranted negative emotions to the surface to be released once and for all. Allowing them to lead the fulfilling life they’ve been dreaming of.
