- Hitting the Snooze Button Is Actually Good for You!
Written by: Diane Forster, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. If you do it right, you can turn a bad habit of hitting the snooze button into a powerful new mindset hack and manifestation tool. High achievers and go-getters will tell you to turn off the alarm and hop right out of bed and get your day going. And that’s great! But what if there was a better way to get out of bed every day? A way that allowed you to tap into the genius in-between states of the Alpha and Theta Brainwaves so that your subconscious mind could produce even better results for you in your life? Let me share with you a technique I call “3-Hit Snoozing.” The manifestations and results showing up in my life blew me away since I started doing this. So, I had to share them. 1. The first thing you need to do is spend an extra 30 minutes in bed. It sounds torturous, doesn’t it?! Either set your alarm 30 minutes earlier than usual, or make sure you have allowed enough time to stay there. 2. When your alarm goes off in the morning, hit the snooze button once. Before you fall back asleep, start listing in your mind all the things that you are grateful for — the bed, the pillows, the blankets, your warm body, your loved ones, your health, your home, etc. List those things in your mind as you fall back asleep. 3. In nine minutes, when the alarm goes off, hit the snooze button again. This time, as you lay down and prepare to fall back asleep, think about your big dreams and goals. Think about what you want your life to be like a year from now, two years, five years, ten years, or wherever you’d like to go. Imagine having, being, and doing all of those things you dream about as you fall back asleep again. 4. When the alarm goes off, hit the snooze button one last time. As you prepare for your final nine minutes of sleep, think about your day TODAY. Set intentions for what you WANT to happen on this day — how you want to feel, what does this day look like, a great cup of coffee, an amazing run, an invigorating shower, an easy commute to work, fabulous meals with wonderful people, signing that big deal you’ve been working on for months and all of it. Fall asleep to those thoughts one more time. 5. When the alarm goes off for the final time, turn it off, get out of your bed, and start your day. This accomplish several things: It’s a great alternative for people who struggle to meditate. You have now found a way to use your precious sleep time in a very productive way. Your frequency raises in that “feel good” state, bringing you more things to feel good about. You’ve just given your subconscious mind the programming, and now it knows its job — to bring you everything you asked for —magic! Start using “3-Hit Snoozing,” and let me know how it’s working for you. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and visit my website for more info! - How To Shift Those Limiting Beliefs
Written by: Natalie Kerr , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Limiting beliefs stop us from stepping out of our comfort zone. They hold us back from becoming the best possible version of ourselves and what we believe to be the absolute truth. They are our model of the world and limit the way we live. Limiting beliefs usually show up in many ways, such as: You aren’t good enough. You aren't smart enough. Scared to get visible. Not lovable. Unworthy of love/success/money/happiness I don’t have enough time/money/experience… insert all the not-enoughness; I am going to fail People will think I am (insert those beliefs) My family never had any money, so I won’t either; Everything I do is a struggle; Nothing good ever happens to me. Procrastination; Self Sabotage You don’t believe in yourself. So, where does a limiting belief come from? Throughout our life we go through three phases. From birth to about 7 years old, this is called the Imprinting period . This is the time when we absorb all the events in our life from everything around us. The 2nd stage is the Modelling Period between the ages of 8 to 13 years of age. This is where we imitate our parents and other people we admire. The 3rd stage is the Socialisation period . This is when we leave the family and start our own lives. During this period, our social values and belief systems are formed. A lot of our beliefs are picked up from our parents, social media, our teachers, what we watch on TV, and so we model these beliefs. For example, I had the belief that making money was really hard. I thought I had to hustle and work all the hours to make my business a success because I was told as a child that you had to work really hard in school and in your job to get good money. This wasn’t said negatively; it was just what their parents had told my parents. I saw my parents struggling to make money and my family working really hard to get money, so I associated making money with hard work. Limiting beliefs are not empowering, and so this is what we call a fixed mindset. This means that your mind sees these limiting beliefs as the truth and acts upon that belief, meaning it becomes much more real. We have limiting beliefs that are subconscious and also conscious. The conscious ones say things like I am not good enough, I am ugly, fat, thick. The subconscious ones are deep. These are the ones that will have come from childhood, such as the example given above about making money is hard. So how do you start to shift those limiting beliefs? The good news is that we can rewire our brains so that those limiting beliefs become positive beliefs. Step 1 - The first thing to do is for the next 24 hours, keep a journal with you at all times and start to note down all the limiting beliefs that you have in those 24 hours. This is so important as you will start recognizing what thoughts you have, what caused these thoughts and how many you have throughout the day, and if there is any pattern. Step 2 - Under those beliefs, write how they are holding you back in your life or business; Step 3 - Then start to think about the subconscious beliefs. What were you told as a child, or what events have taken place that has made you have these limiting beliefs? Write these down. Step 4 - Now rewrite all those limiting beliefs into positive sentences. For example, I am not worthy of success, rewrite this to say, I AM worthy of success. Step 5 - Turn these positive sentences into affirmations, which you will pin up where you will see them every day. This is just the beginning of shifting those limiting beliefs, and it doesn't happen overnight. But once you start to realize that your thoughts are limiting beliefs and that it is just your mind trying to keep you safe, it will help you push yourself forward to create that life you desire. - Are You Wearing Comfortable Clothing During These Times?
Written by: J. Francàis Foster, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Comfortable it is! From sweats to joggers, hoodies to jackets, t-shirts to long sleeve shirts, people working from home choose a more comfortable approach to fashion. I believe a lot of people are shopping online. Are consumers purchasing comfy clothing or dress attire? I would think both, but people are wearing casual but yet comfortable clothing more. Recently, I read an article on the internet stating gym clothing sales have increased significantly. I believe this is true! Gym clothing can be extremely comfortable to lounge in or wearing while working out at home. Women love comfort, but we can still be casual & stylish at the same time. I love the fact that you can dress up joggers; yes, actual jogging pants! Just add a camisole, necklace, and a bootie to complete the look. You can even pair sport leggings, a hoodie, and a trench coat to make an ensemble chic. I am a fashion designer, I love wearing my brand, but a lot of days I will throw on some joggers and a t-shirt to be comfortable in. Did you know that zip-up hoodies, sweat pants, joggers, and sweatshirts are being designed in the fabric cashmere? What a very beautiful fabric, and you can just imagine how it feels in casual clothing. So, while you’re preparing for the zoom meeting from home, working on your laptop from the sofa, you can still dress comfortably and look super stylish in comfy clothing! - 3 Steps to Building Resiliency
Written by: Emily Rentas, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Life will always test us. Even when we do the best planning… Whatever we face, it is important to develop and nurture the skills necessary to overcome obstacles, challenges, and difficulties. The more we work on these skills, the more resilient we become during change and adversity. When facing difficult situations or circumstances, it helps to remember the wise words of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, “That which does not kill me makes me stronger.” Resilience allows us to adapt well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, or significant sources of stress and change. The characteristics of resiliency include creativity, open-mindedness, persistence, and optimism. The most important part of resiliency is our belief in succeeding during times of adversity and change. When we believe we are, we can move towards our goals and become resilient in the process with confidence. When we default to a negative mindset or catastrophic scenarios in the face of challenges, we weaken our resiliency and potentially sabotage our opportunity to resolve the issue. Do you find yourself often defaulting to the worst-case scenarios or even find it difficult to face new challenges? Check out the following 3 steps to building your resiliency skills and deal with adversity with strength and grace. STEP 1: Accept and sit with reality. Accepting the current conditions of your unfortunate circumstances begins to remove your resistance to change. Not allowing yourself to come to terms with the current circumstances keeps you stuck and peddling your mental wheels to destination nowhere. When we decide to stop avoiding, denying, or struggling with our problems in life or business, we then open the space to allow our time and energy to be spent effectively problem-solving. Once we begin to understand the uncomfortable feelings or approaches are part of a normal response to the situation, we can begin to commit to the necessary steps to resolving it. Sit with the moment of accepting the challenge and allow yourself to acknowledge the circumstance while committing to resolving it with a plan. It will not be easy, but you will not get there by ignoring the elephant in the room. STEP 2: Shore up power and commit to keeping it going. Collecting inner strength is necessary for our problem-solving journeys. Cultivating resiliency approaches and strategies for an extended amount of time will drain energy or resources. Consider where your energy, time, and resources are going towards and decide what you may need to modify, remove, or increase where necessary so that you can have the strength to keep going. Think thoughtfully and intentionally about why you are deciding to do so. There will always be moments we are called to adjust strategies and approaches when necessary when dealing with a challenge. Do not give in to knee jerk reactions or solutions along with the challenges you face. Especially those that offer a “quick fix” or a “one solution solves all.” It may sound like a good idea now, but what is the real cost later? Part of cultivating resiliency requires us to decern when things are not working or identifying when we are successful at the intervention at hand. Developing resiliency is a marathon, not a sprint. STEP 3: Imagine the new. Dealing with adversity and change will require you to imagine a new reality or possibility. That means thinking about things differently than you may have in the past or considering new approaches, tools, or resources. Keeping an open perspective will allow you to easily identify effective approaches and solutions, whereas a negative or closed mindset can have you missing important opportunities or solutions. Facing challenges head-on is never easy, and allowing yourself to take the path of least resistance will allow you to arrive at effective solutions much quicker. Think about what you expect to happen or how it will happen. You will be surprised at identifying potential self-sabotaging thinking in the process. Self-sabotaging thinking can lead you to eliminate possible effective solutions. Anything is always possible. Do not forget, act, and execute! For these stages to be effective, they require us to act on them and carry them out to completion. Taking intentional and consistent action is necessary on our resiliency journey. Without thoughtfully acting on effective problem-solving steps, we run the risk of reacting on autopilot, ignoring/worsening the situation, or end up cluttering our mind with information that is never acted upon. Resiliency to adverse situations and circumstances is built throughout time and requires us to constantly check in with ourselves on dealing with them. We often tell ourselves stories about our past and present situations. Building resiliency allows us to strengthen our ability to imagine new endings for those stories so that we have a chance to change how we see and experience the future. We cannot control the things that happen to us, but we can control how we respond to it and what stories we tell ourselves about the meaning of it all. Consider hiring a coach to assist you in building these skills further. Choosing to work with a coach with the right skills will allow you to become more resilient and successful when dealing with adversity and stress. A coach can help you become unstuck, help identify obstacles, and motivate you to successfully reach your goals with a clear plan. Who is Peggy Niles? The creative, fun-loving, dancing, numbers geek turned strategy builder, mentor and expert business advisor who believes no one should settle for the status quo but should instead go after their dreams because anything is truly possible when you set your mind to it. I have lived in Illinois, USA, my entire life surrounded by family and friends (and, of course, my 11-year old fuzzy-wuzzy Shichon, Sharpie). After all, what better thing in the world is there than family, friends and enjoying life. My circle extends beyond Illinois, though; I love meeting and working with people worldwide and feel the different perspectives, personalities and experiences are a twist that allows me to expand my horizons. In fact, I remember after starting one of my corporate jobs, every time one of the managers came back from a call, he’d say “so and so said Hi,” “so and so said Hi,” and eventually “is there anyone you don’t know?” Now don’t misunderstand me; it hasn’t always been easy (nor is it now), but being an optimist who requires balance has helped me through those rough times. It also helped me work to identify, discover and create my “Get More from Your Business Framework.” It relates to what I wanted out of my life, and when I started my own company, what I wanted to help others achieve, that is “Get More from Your Business so you can live life on your terms.” When I started out in my career, I was a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) working in a very old-fashioned disciplined field where working 60 hours a week was not only common but often expected. Everyone did things in the same way because “that’s the way it’s always been done,” even if there were more effective ways of doing them. That was just unacceptable to me. I didn’t want to choose between career and family; I didn’t want to work an overabundance of hours and not be able to enjoy life with the money I was making; I didn’t want to waste time, brain cells and other resources when I could figure out a more effective, more efficient way of doing things (or not having to do them at all). I most certainly didn’t want to miss out on my two sons’ lives. So in those years of working for large corporations and Big 4 public accounting, I got involved in various functions and aspects of the business, asked questions up and down the line, worked with and observed partners and CEOs in not only the companies I worked for but also my clients, all the while making notes, testing, running projects, and initiating new ideas, suggestions, and methods. [BTW, I continue to do this to this day; I believe there’s always room for improvement.] When the timing was right, I decided to take the leap. Like many others, I got caught up in a downsizing; my bosses asked me if I’d like another position within the company, but as I sat on the beach looking out to the ocean with the blue skies and the warmth of the sun on my face (during a work management conference no less), I realized after 17 years of working with the big dogs it was time for what I had been working up to all along, helping those who wanted to achieve their dreams of building their own businesses, being their own bosses and living life as they chose. That was back in 2003, and I never regret it! So Peggy, what do you do? I help established business owners scale their companies by driving high performance and profits leveraging 3 key resources so they can live life on their terms without the pressure or overwhelm. Two of the best outcomes they have along the way are better management of their cash flow and the trust they have that things are still getting done within their business and done right, without their constant involvement. Many business owners often walk this fine line between sanity and insanity because they spread themselves too thin. They become so frustrated because they have to be involved with every aspect of their business if they want it done right, and yet all of their effort and time is not showing up in the bottom line. Before they know it, they burn out and no longer have any passion for their business – they don’t enjoy it anymore. We want to get them out of the frustration - to have them make more money so they can reinvest it in their company, themselves and their causes. We want to help them avoid burnout. The problem is you start out wanting to get away from the 9-5 corporate world and be your own boss, but you find it becomes more than a 9-5 job with all the end responsibility on your shoulders. When this happens, you get caught up in the day-to-day grind and before you know it years have passed and you never actually have time to plan on where you really want to go with the business, let alone your life. Typically my clients are highly-driven, business owners in the service industry who have been in business for a minimum of seven years, have revenue between $500K and $9 million and want to scale their companies. They fall in one of two situations: 1) they’re stuck – their business has plateaued and they can’t figure out how to break through that ceiling or brick wall or 2) they’re growing rapidly and can’t handle the capacity or keep control over the business without something falling through the cracks, either way they risk losing bottom line profits and money in their bank – all while continuing on that hamster wheel. At Quantum Scaling℠, our mission is to empower business owners to build resilient, sustainable companies with high performance and profits, leveraging three key areas: numbers, processes and teams. We strategically guide them in scaling their companies using a holistic business approach. In fact, at the end of the day, we not only help them drive high performance and maximize their current profits, but we position them for a profitable exit when they’re ready to let go. So how does your “Get More from Your Business Framework”℠ work? It’s a 3-phase process: Phase I – our “Figure It Out Bootcamp”℠ where we take a deep dive into your company, conduct our “Ultimate Company Check-Up”℠ and figure out what’s working/what’s not/where the hidden opportunities are, as well as discover what you really want to achieve through your business; then we identify the action steps for you to take right now to gain momentum in moving forward with confidence. Phase II – our “Get Ahead of the Game” phase where you get ahead of your competition and your own timeline by gaining clarity and creating your customized “Performance & Profit”℠ Roadmap to your long-term vision or as I like to call it, your endgame. Phase III – it’s time to “Get It Done” using our “On-Track Method”℠ when we’ll strategically guide you through the execution of your roadmap to scale your company, hold you (and your team) accountable and reach your five-year goals in 12-24 months. What do you think is the main reason most businesses don’t succeed with strategic planning? They fail in the execution. In fact, 59% of business executives admitted their organizations struggle to bridge the gap between strategy design and implementation. I have found this is a result of two things: focusing on the wrong things at different stages and lack of accountability. What do you think is the 1 reason business owners may hesitate to hire an advisor such as yourself for scaling? Time; some have a misconception that our process and work together is going to take so much time when in fact it saves them time. Now when I save them time, I don’t only mean hours in their days or weeks (although we do this), but also from the perspective of reaching their goals in half the time. If given a choice between laboring endless hours constantly sidetracked with distractions, responding to issues, and spinning your wheels OR acting on the things that give you more control and influence on your company and your life, which would you choose? Did you have a mentor? I have had, and currently have, mentors. I’ve learned along the way if you want to achieve greater things faster, hire someone who can give you a fresh perspective, share experience and challenge you to step outside your comfort zone. I have to say, though, my best mentor was my dad. I was so lucky to have the dad I did. He never gave himself credit for all of the knowledge he had and he was so humble about helping others. He made a great impact on hundreds of lives, and if you had asked him, he probably would have denied it. Have you ever received a compliment that sticks in your mind to this day? I had one client years ago that after tremendous growth, wanted to bring the position in-house. When I told them I wasn’t interested because I enjoyed helping all of my clients, they said they “wished they could clone me.” I still do work for them (on a different scale) to this day, but wow, cloning me – that was a tremendous compliment. What is your big goal? Our long-term vision is to help 1000s live their dream lifestyles through their business, and by doing so, help them to make their mark or impact on the world. As I eluded to earlier, we don’t want anyone accepting the status quo; we want to empower them to dream big, to stop saying “If I could” and start saying “I will….” OR “when I…” so they actually achieve success as they define it for themselves! Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? Well, I don’t ever see myself ever fully retiring because I love what I do, and I love connecting with people, so I will expand our company globally. I do see myself working more from a beach as I travel to new destinations enjoying “semi-retirement” with my husband, and speaking to business owners around the world. I can guarantee I will be experiencing life at its fullest, continuing to challenge myself and trying new things. Do you have any tips for those business owners out there reading this interview? Yes, my top three would be: It starts with the mindset – you don’t have to settle for the status quo; Always operate with your endgame in mind; and Take the complimentary “Profit or Plateau” Assessment at quantumscalingstrategies.com/profitquiz to discover which direction you’re headed. - 3 Key Ingredients to Reach Your Next Level in Leadership
Written by: Eva Medilek, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Being a leader in today’s world demands more than leadership has demanded in the past. What worked before is suddenly not enough. We have a pandemic, we have strong political differences and we have a heightened sensitivity to systemic racism all around the world. To pretend that this doesn’t exist is highly irresponsible if you lead or have any level of influence in your family, your teams, your clients, and your business. Now is not the time to put on blinders and become tone-deaf to the fears, frustrations, and concerns being felt by humans all over the world. Being a leader in these times demands a next level of presence. What does that mean exactly? Look around at the leaders that you follow. What are they present to? What are they messaging? Are they aware of the temperatures in their communities? Or, has it been business as usual without any acknowledgment of what you may or may not be experiencing, fearing, or needing? You see, we look to leaders for guidance, direction, and a role modeling of behaviors. But, we also look to feel seen, heard, respected, and acknowledged by our influencers. If you’ve ever had a situation occur in your life that was significant, wouldn’t you have appreciated any acknowledgment of that experience by those who were influential in your life? You don’t necessarily expect someone to swoop down and fix all of your problems or have all of the answers. But to acknowledge your challenges and your triumphs is a key ingredient to feeling seen and heard, especially in troubling times. Look at your own leadership. Are you creating a level of presence to what your communities may be experiencing that allows them to feel seen, heard, acknowledged, and respected by you? Being present to the fear, the stress, and the challenges that the world is facing, creates a level of trust and safety in you as a leader. Being tone-deaf is a level of privilege that is no longer working in leadership. The emotions are too strong to pretend that they don’t exist. Here are 3 very simple ingredients that are needed in today’s climate that will elevate your leadership to the next level. 1. ASK Be curious enough to ask what your family, your teams, your audience is feeling and experiencing with everything that’s going on. Be present to the fact that some people are doing fine, and others are struggling. Have the presence of mind to ask how people are really doing and where they need extra support. You may not have the answers, but being present with the fact that some may be struggling in one way or another will go a long way. 2. LISTEN Now that you’ve asked, it wouldn’t be appropriate to gloss over the results and move on. How can you create a feeling of safety in what was shared with you? We are all hearing a lot of things that we don’t necessarily agree with. But, when someone in your communities feels seen and heard by you, you have a greater level of influence with that person. 3. ACKNOWLEDGE Again, back to presence. Acknowledge the pain, struggle, challenge, and even the triumph of your people. Now is not the time to make people wrong for what they are feeling or experiencing and tell them what they should and shouldn’t be doing. Now is not the time to “should” on your people. Acknowledgment is an important step in increasing your influence. “I know you are feeling x, y, z… I know it’s not easy… I hear you and I see you and together, we will find a way to….” All may be good with you, and maybe the changes in the world have benefited you in some way. Next level leadership requires you to be present and have a generosity level that allows you to see beyond your personal bubble. Be a next-level leader. Be present to the experiences of your communities. Create fans, not just followers. - How to Ensure Your Intentions Come True in 2021
Written by: Elle Hari, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. If you created resolutions at the start of 2021, then you’ll definitely want to pay attention to this article. Even if you don’t believe in resolutions, this article applies to you. Why? Because “resolution” is simply another word for intention, and even if you don’t consciously decide to set new intentions, you are actually setting them all the time. Whenever you have thoughts such as: “I want ____”; “I wish I had ___”; “I need to do ___”; “I’m going to do ___”; etc. ...you are setting intentions. This is why many people think the whole practice of having resolutions at the new year is redundant. It’s because we’re all setting intentions all the time (albeit without really realizing it). Resolutions may be more consciously created, but that doesn’t make them any more or less effective. So, what does make a resolution/intention more attainable? The answer may surprise you. It’s counter-intuitive. And it’s contrary to the prevailing wisdom on the subject (especially that provided by the Law of Attraction crowd). Yet, it works. The way to set intentions to ensure that they come to fruition is to make them as broad and general as possible. The Devil Is In The Details Here’s what I mean. Everything is energy. And when you set an intention, what you are essentially doing is calling forth a certain type of energy. For example: If you intend to lose 20 pounds, you’re seeking to attract healthy energy. If you intend to make $1 million, you’re seeking to attract money energy. If you intend to meet a romantic partner, you’re seeking to attract romantic energy. To attract any energy into your life (or more of it), it needs to flow without restriction or limitation. The more details you attach to an intention, the more limitations you put on the energy and the less free it can flow to you. All limitation is fear. Every detail, every specification we place on our intentions, means the more fear we are attaching to that intention. The devil is a symbol of fear-based energy. This is why it’s in the details! It’s impossible to attract what you want if fear is present (unless you want more fear). Therefore, we want to remove all fear from our intentions when we set them. This means being as broad and general with our intentions as possible. Therefore, the most common detail and limitation we all tend to place onto our intentions is time. Time is hands down the biggest reason why intention setting doesn’t work. Placing a timeframe on when you want to attain your intention is placing a huge limitation onto it. Intending to lose 20 pounds within 1 month; Intending to make $1 million by February 1st; or Intending to meet a romantic partner at the wedding you are attending next weekend… It only serves to add more details/specifications and, therefore, fear onto your intention and send more fear out in the Universe. You can even feel the added pressure and stress that accompanies the time details placed onto intentions. I would suggest editing the three intentions in our examples, thusly: I intend to be healthy. I intend to allow money to flow more freely into (and out of) my life. I intend to be open to whoever comes into my life (or not). Energy must freely flow, and according to the Universal Law of Rhythm, it flows in cycles. Therefore, we must allow it to flow into and out of our lives without blocking it from doing so in either direction. One blockage in either direction causes a blockage in the entire system, just like plumbing. Similarly, too many details stop it from flowing in, attaching to it too tightly, hoarding it, or being resistant to letting it go all stop it from flowing out. The more freely it flows in and out, the greater it can build and grow. As this occurs, the more it increases every time it flows back in. Without Specifications, How Do We Attain Exactly What We Want? This is where it can seem counter-intuitive because our minds like to think they have some semblance of control. In actuality, that false sense of control is a “needing” type of energy. Needing energy comes from scarcity and lack (aka fear). Trying to control your intentions – just like adding details and specifications – adds fear to the intentions. What are details and specifications, if not ways to try to control how the intention should happen? Specifications almost always ensure that you won’t attain your intention…at least not in the energetic space that you truly desire it. Remember, the details don’t matter. It’s all about energy. Maybe you will lose 20 pounds by the end of the month, but what you really want is to be healthier and to look better, right? That’s the energy you’re trying to attract. Not the details themselves. But say you did lose 20 pounds by the end of the month, but that intention was shrouded in fear-based energy. So, your new weight loss is going to come with fear-based energy attached. What if that manifests as sickness because you lost the weight too fast? What if you did make $1 million by February, but in your fear-based tunnel vision to make that $1 million, you weren’t even aware of an opportunity to make $20 million? Or, that $1 million came from someone who obtained it by illegal means, and you become investigated by the feds? What if you did meet someone that you resonated with romantically at the wedding, but (because there were slim pickings at that wedding, which was the only place that you specified that you would meet someone), the person turned out to be a psycho, narcissist who subsequently destroyed every aspect of your life? Those are some extreme examples, but stranger things have happened. And ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE. Anything. Resonating with this truth is key to helping you let go of the need to feel in control. Your mind may not be in control, but your soul is. Your soul is orchestrating everything in your life, and your soul is miraculous. Your soul is also your true self. Your soul knows your truth, and it knows your true desires. Your soul is also abundance and love. It will naturally bring those things to you in every area of your life. If only your mind didn’t get in the way by trying to place limitations on everything your soul is orchestrating, you would experience complete and perpetual abundance and love. Your soul is capable of infinitely so much more than your mind can even conceive of. As big as you can dream, it’s only a tiny fraction of what’s possible for your soul to bring to you. When intentions are set without details, you’ll find that you shift into a place of safety and presence where you know that everything is perfect no matter how or when or in what physical form the energy you are trying to attract comes in. That space is where everything you desire resides within you. It’s the space of contentment, peace, happiness, and fullness. If you think about it and you’re honest with yourself, that’s all you really want. You are hoping that, whatever your intention is for outside of you, it will bring you a sense of contentment, peace, happiness, and/or fullness. Everything that you already are within. That right there is the key to perpetual happiness and having all of your intentions come to fruition. As within, so without. And the energetic space you settle in within yourself will attract that same energy into your outer world in whichever physical form and whichever way is perfect for you. Your mind can’t determine what’s perfect for you because it can’t see all that’s possible. Letting go of the details is one way to get your mind out of the process and allow your soul to orchestrate your most perfect life. - Beyond The Afterglow
Written by: Taaureane Rasheediah Paquette, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Every relationship is different in your life, especially the one you have with your partner. It’s the one that can often tilt the scales in your favor or end in heartbreak, with pieces to pick up. It all starts with that mating dance, the will they or won’t they aspect, which goes from weeks to months. During this time, you are introduced to the surface of your potential, save for what may happen later on. While you go through the excitable texts, long phone calls, and FaceTime, feelings are developing when you are apart. The attachment, the silly pet names, and the ability to be yourself with some you care about deeply. As this evolves into a relationship, you must keep the “honeymoon phase” going, and as we will discuss, that isn’t always easy. I have been in three relationships in my life, and they have all taught me to see a different version of love. In my first one, it was more or less the puppy love that an inexperienced female has. We were together for years, and while I never saw a future, I didn’t want half the self-worth to leave. Let me explain. I didn’t think that another man would ever love me like he did. Instead of settling for prime rib, I gave myself the leftover scraps. Looking back, I know I deserved better, and if I had the confidence and knew my worth, I wouldn’t have wasted 10 years of my life on him. In the end, I left the relationship on my own terms and began my self-healing journey. You have to prepare yourself for what is coming towards you, rather than what is behind you. Love will miss you if you are ready to receive it and embrace what beautiful comes from it. Entering the dating pool after that was scary. I had no idea what I was getting into. Technology obviously changed during this time, and online dating was the rage. I signed myself and began the vetting process of a potential suitor. That was an interesting situation, men that weren’t so honest about themselves or just downright scary. So I decided to give it a little break for a little, work further on myself, and really soul search for what I was looking for in a partner and myself. At the end of the day, you have to be able to sit with yourself and your own company. No one can fill the void you make for yourself. Months later, somewhat healed, I returned to the apps and found the man of my dreams. He fit the criteria that I wanted in a partner and someone I knew I could grow with. We had our first date and kissed at TGIF, and didn’t look back. My bucket list is partially done because of things we have done together, including seeing shooting stars on the beach. I know it sounds corny, but those are moments that take your breath away. Years later, we became engaged and went through a series of tragic events. Losing my mother before our wedding was a crushing blow. It changed the way I looked at love as a whole. I was trapped in an abyss, not feeling anything but numb, I began to push him away. At the lowest part of my tailspin, I couldn’t even love myself, never mind another human being. He didn’t give up, though, and he’s always done the best he could to make sure that even if I lacked the ability to truly feel it, I knew that I was loved. Losing my best friend, as hard as it was, had to happen for me to grow. No longer was I protected in this world. I felt emotions I didn’t think were possible. In those moments, you see, the afterglow ended. Faced to deal with my demons, I had to rebuild myself and my relationship. We were like two ships in the night since we took on additional jobs to pay for our wedding. That ended up being delayed about a year and a half because I just didn’t know what direction to go in. Fast forward a year later, and we are saying our vows in front of our loved ones. There was a butterfly there, which everyone saw and said was my Mom. It was her approval of the union and her blessing. No one tells you how difficult a marriage can be and that it doesn’t come with a guidebook. There will always be outside forces: family, work, and just life in general in the way. That’s why it’s important to continue to have a happy medium in your relationship. It has to be 50/50 to get over the humps or “seven-year itch.” Or circumstances in general change your perception of everything. Last year around the time, I went through an awakening after years of just existing. Since then, I have allowed myself to fully feel love unconditionally. I believe you have to hit your own version of rock bottom before you can rebuild your empire. Last year I truly found myself, and it changed my relationships immensely. Mental health is so important to address with your partner. If either one lacks it, please step up to the challenge. My relationship, which now I keep very private, is the catalyst for what I have become. I have become an advocate for mental health and empowerment for both men and women. Building a community and resources for others to benefit and educate themselves. Creating a brand that is my legacy, and finding the love and light inside myself, to pour into my partner. I also want to take this moment to thank the love of my life for being patient and listening to me sob at night, giving me the faith that I was doing what I was meant to in life, and allowing an audience into our world. Most of all, for being my best friend and loving me until I fully healed. The afterglow you see is just the beginning of this wonderful journey called life. - Follow Your Heart – Become The Rockstar of Your Life
Written by: Dale Darley, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Have you got it together? Are you doing what you dreamed that you would do or be? I wanted to be a rock star. Although I did tell a shocked group of kids that I wanted to be a stripper. Not that I really knew what that entailed, it just seemed like something that would excite me and be fun. When I woke up this morning, my word of the day was fun. How I wondered could I have fun when I live alone with the furry ones in the hills in a remote village, and we are unable to socialise? Of course, there is always my imagination. Just like I could see myself standing on the stage in Wembley, saying those famous words 'thank you Wembley, I love you' after delivering an awesome gig. I could step into the field of possibilities and play. So, today I invite you to play with a few possibilities, which all begin with c. Competence Whether you know it or not, you are an expert in your life. The trouble is, you probably take all of your knowledge, skills, and experience for granted and assume that everyone else can do what you do too. They don't. Remember the conscious competence model, where we get to the point of knowing what we know and just doing it. Here's your challenge – grab your journal and create a talent map across all areas of your life. Next, mark what you love and then what you are just good at. Reflect. Then step into the field of possibilities and imagine what you could do with your talents. Credibility Showing up as the rock star of your life gives you a level of credibility that nothing else can. It is simply proof that you are an authority on your YOU subject. You will be establishing yourself as someone to trust and earning respect in the process. To do: Look at your list of loves (up there). Which of these are you showing up as a leader in your field for? Which ones are missing? Reflect. Next, imagine you are on a stage singing your leadership song – what is the opening line? Change agent By carefully crafting what you stand for, you not only become clear about yourself (change one), you will show others that they can do or achieve. You lead the way and inspire others to change and become their best selves. To do: Look at the things you love and ask how you can use them to inspire others to know what is possible in the world? Pick something that you would like to do, but haven't. Roll the dice of fate and imagine where that road could take you. Connect Humans love connection and at a time when that is being eroded, how can you become a connector? Being your best self and showing up connects you emotionally to your community. It's the small things you do from the heart, with kindness and compassion, which will leave your mark on others. To do: How can you show up each day with kindness and compassion and connect your heart to others hearts? Confidence Actually, going beyond the fear and lack of self-belief process and coming out the other side as a person who has embraced the grunge of life with grace is amazing for your inner confidence. If you were brimming with confidence, what would you do? Take the leap from the corporate or other rat race, you find yourself in and follow your dreams? You can start planning now. Sell up, pack up and travel around the world? Why not proactively look around for opportunities to make it happen? How about that hobby you'd love to turn into a paying business? Take the first step in doing some research, learn how to monetize it, then take it from there. Or are you already in business but lacking the confidence to step up, step out, and do what you love? To do: If you could confidently say yes to just one thing, what would it be? Now let your imagination wander. Make a list of everything you could say yes to. Spend the day saying yes to your heart's desires. How does that feel? Curiosity They say that curiosity killed the cat, poor cat. But if we never explore and take the teeniest of risks, how will we ever know what is possible. So, what is possible for you? I want to write a novel, but something holds me back – I think it's called imposter syndrome. Of course, it is. At least I know this and can take steps to overcome it, like putting my pen to paper in a curious way to explore what tales I want to tell. To do: I invite you to do just that. Put your pen to paper in a curious way and explore what you want and who you want to become. Then ask what the first step is? When we are stressed or anxious, it can stop us in our tracks, and we can lose sight of the power of our imagination. Look back at what you have written, reflect and review. Something will stand out, and I invite you to explore just a little bit more. Have fun today. For more information, please visit my website! Read more from Dale! - Is Traditional Education Out?
Written by: Brittney Oliver, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. What do Bill Gates, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Tony Robbins, and Walt Disney have in common? None of them received a college degree. Not one of these inventors, investors, and leaders holds a traditional college degree, and yet each of them has a seat in history at the round table of success. While plenty of wealthy or notable individuals do have university qualifications, approximately one in eight of the Forbes 400, the 400 richest billionaires in the US, are college dropouts. Why is this information beneficial? Well, it depends on who you are and what you believe. In a dynamic world where big tech runs the show and YouTube sensations manifest overnight, superseding the Hollywood hopeful, it is becoming apparent that new roads are being forged to the destination of achievement and success. The common thread connecting most of the big players, however, is still education. Mark Zuckerberg, another college dropout, didn’t just become one of the wealthiest Americans by chance. His Facebook design took working knowledge of systems, data, and code, things that require a rock-solid attention span and patience to learn. Tony Robbins talks of multiple failures throughout his early years of working under some top motivational speakers and studying their work by cassette tape during his daily custodial duties. Education is no more of an institution than religion. Neither exist only in a designated building, but rather are practices available to be sought after freely. Libraries boast thousands of titles and compilations that are literal playbooks for success and available to anyone who possesses a free library card. While I think I speak for us all when saying that nobody wants a surgeon who merely read a book and hasn’t learned hands-on application, for many areas of business and skills, the knowledge to succeed in them is available freely to each one of us. Education no longer exists only within the walls of an institution or university but rather in books, online case studies, seminars, classes, individually taught courses, and masterminds. Education now can intake information from trusted sources and apply it correctly until we succeed and keep with this process indefinitely. What’s more is that many degree holders are required very little continuing education to continue practicing in their field, and it can be harder to seek additional education when in a place of comfort or monotony. Entrepreneurs are notorious for ongoing education in personal development and craft because their paycheck is constantly dependent on their consistent growth and innovation, two things that stunt when one is not moving, growing, and learning. I don’t ask my kids, “What do you want to be when you grow up” because it will naturally cause them to flip through their mini, mental Rolodex of “career options,” at which point they may likely source an answer that they think is acceptable to an adult or society. The great inventors didn’t invent their masterpieces after scanning a limited, educational Rolodex . They created from a soul place, maybe from purpose or passion or curiosity? With the multitude of educational options now available to each one of us, maybe the better question to ask is, “What would you love to learn?” For more information, follow me on Instagram and visit my website ! - Want to Lose Weight? Create a Strategic Plan for Success
Written by: Ebony Langston, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Many are successful leaders because they can create a vision, think with the end in mind, and create an action plan that addresses the key factors for success. That same skill and characteristic is transferable when it comes to achieving any goal in life, including losing weight. First, it is important to remember that losing weight is not the action you need to complete but rather the result of several actions addressing nutrition, activity, and lifestyle factors. When put in that context, think about the smaller individual actions to accomplish the ultimate result you desire. When setting goals, follow the S.M.A.R.T. goal system. This system will help you accomplish what you set out to do and reach your goals in a timely fashion. Specific. Be explicit in what you want. Write down the specific actions you feel you need to complete. Instead of “go to the gym more,” try something more like “walk two miles a day 3x a week”. Measurable. Use a journal or app to track your progress. Use the information to understand if the actions you are taking are getting you closer or further away from the results you want. Attainable. Small goals that lead up to a larger goal are often easier to reach. The success of reaching these small goals will keep you motivated . Realistic. Understand what your body can do and set your goals accordingly. Timely. Keep your goal in focus by setting a completion date. In addition, here are some more weight loss tips to help you succeed: 1. Be flexible. Strategic plans are intended to provide a guided map to get to the end goal. However, there are several different routes you can take to get there. If you run into a roadblock, do not completely abandon the plan, but rather use the data to make the necessary adjustments to keep you moving forward. Be open to feedback, but don’t compare your journey to others. What works for others may not work for you, and vice versus. Be open to experimenting until you find what works for you. 2. 80% of the formula depends on nutrition factors. If you have to scale down (no pun intended) on actions, focus on your nutrition choices. Eating the right nutrition for your body helps your body function optimally. Planning for days full of meetings or travel will help you stay on track with your plan and keep you energized during the day. 3. Get off the Couch. Many people fall into the trap of being an “active couch potato,” completing a structured workout but then sitting around all day in front of the computer or TV. Counter this by taking breaks to take short walks throughout the day, buy an adjustable desk and stand more through the day. Moving more has other benefits... moving throughout the day increases energy, improves concentration, and reduces anxiety. 4. Make Some Friends. The people who are usually the most successful in losing weight and keeping it off are the ones who have a great support system. Nothing deters you like knowing you’re accountable to others. Your support team will encourage you, work out with you, and bring you confidence when times are tough. Losing weight is possible for anyone who approaches the challenge wisely. With some careful planning and determination, your weight loss goal can certainly become a reality. For more information, follow me on Facebook , Instagram and visit my website ! - Ask the Health Coach — 5 Reasons That Health Coaching is Important
Written by: Cassandra Wiley, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Managing chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, or heart disease can be overwhelming. I became a health coach because I am passionate about helping those individuals live better lives. Many people would like guidance to better manage their conditions. They are tired of living in their current state; some abhor looking at themselves in the mirror because they do not like the person that they see. There was a time when the primary care physician or specialist could give real guidance; however, many doctors are extremely busy in this current climate and are quick to prescribe a medication. My clients have mentioned that they were tired of being told that they are obese by their doctor, particularly if he does not discuss weight-loss strategies. There is not a “cookie-cutter” method for weight loss. In addition, medications treat the symptoms, not the disease. A daily regimen for some may be taking 5-10 medications and dealing with the side effects that come with them. Patients eventually want more than a quick fix to their condition. There are ways that a health coach can help. 1. Advocacy. A health coach can be an advocate for the patient to empower them to make changes. A patient may be at the point that she has tried everything without getting the desired results. Teaching patients to have faith in themselves to achieve their goals will give them confidence. 2. Behavior changes. Health coaching can bring about positive behavior changes. The patient realizes that she must make a change or suffer the consequences of the chronic disease. For example, pre-diabetes can lead to diabetes if the patient does not make lifestyle changes. Consequently, diabetes can lead to other health conditions or death if the patient ignores the illness. 3. Education. In between coaching sessions, I will ask the patient to complete “homework” assignments related to a health and wellness goal or activity. She also receives weekly emails for support, learning tools, and a point of focus for the current week. 4. Holistic assessments. A patient can see where she is currently as far as weight, meal consumption, snacking, sleep patterns, movement, and any illnesses using a questionnaire. 5. Empathy and non-judgmental attitude. As a health coach, I meet the client where they are currently without judgment. The focus is on the present and the future, not the past. Do you need help managing a chronic illness? Take the time to discover if health coaching is the right fit for you. Visit my website for more info!
