- An Exclusive Interview with Money Mindset Coach Rita Roushdy
Rita Roushdy is an expert in the money mindset, uncovering subconscious limiting beliefs and supporting high-level women in becoming a powerful magnet for money. After a decade of hustling hard but hardly being paid, leaving her depleted and wounded, Rita was on a mission to heal her relationship with money, knowing that it will be a lifelong journey beginning by healing herself first. Rita’s purpose quickly became to share this secret with other women who desire to level up their businesses and finances into new heights of limitless abundance that spill into all areas of their lives. Transforming society’s relationship with money, one woman at a time, Rita strives to uncover and release old limiting money paradigms that we’ve been programmed with. Rita Roushdy, Money Mindset Coach Using an abundance of healing tools and techniques, she guides her clients, releasing anything that no longer serves them by healing old money wounds and deep-rooted beliefs, making space for what they truly desire to have more of in their lives, activating and allowing them to become magnetic to their dream clients. She has supported her worldwide clients, reaching consistent £10K and £20K per month income goals and hitting their first £100K in business in less than 2 months of working together. She’s been invited to share her expertise on money mindset and became a keynote speaker, all within the first year of entering the coaching space. What made you decide to specialize in Money Mindset? I’ve not always had a great relationship with money, I’ve had years of overworking and undercharging, spreading myself too thin in the name of a few pounds and it took huge shifts to get to where I am today. It would be a disservice to keep this knowledge, experience, and know-how all to myself. During my market research I’ve noticed a running theme everywhere I turned, that even though money is a social construct that we’ve created to solve a problem, it has become the number one cause of stress across the world. When in fact, the cause of our stress is the perception that we hold of money and our relationship with money. And while most come to me with money issues, we dive much deeper into the core root cause and imprint a new belief to support a more expansive financial abundance for the client. It’s fulfilling to know that working on such a deep core level essentially spills into all areas of life, not just my clients’ bank accounts. You talk a lot about subconscious work and healing work, but isn’t that more therapy and counseling rather than coaching? Aren’t you meant to be focussing on the future rather than the past? It’s actually a misconception that all coaches focus only on the future. Yes, the end goal may be to achieve a specific desired result, however, depending on your belief system, your mind may actually be working against you. So most people will see this as a money story that they’re doing all of the strategies, yet nothing seems to be creating the result that they desire, and they’re just unsure on why. The truth is we don’t attract what we desire, we attract what we believe on a deep level that we are worthy of, we attract what we are on a cellular level which to some may be debt and overspending, to others it might be undercharging and overworking. And without looking at the patterns that have been created in your life, and without looking at the beliefs and perceptions that the client’s created as a child, the client will continue to relive the same money patterns throughout their lives. As a Matrix Reimprinting Therapist and Practitioner, I’ve received client feedback that the fear to raise their prices and increase their monthly income goal had been completely taken away by addressing the issue at its core, instead of trying to symptom manage the issue and change the outside circumstance, which means the root cause continues to remain beneath the surface, manifesting itself in their reality over and over again until resolved fully. You’ve mentioned your clients have hit over £20K a month in business and hit £100K this year, yet there is such a stigma on those kinds of numbers not being a sustainable way of growth in business. What’s your take on sustainable growth in business? We’re at the cusp of a new era where we’re beginning to deconstruct patriarchal ideologies. Making money becomes easy now, we don't have to overwork, overdeliver to make more money. But the value that we can create and the impact that we can make on another’s life can be priceless. So in terms of time, is it sustainable? Absolutely, we can attract the right opportunities and the right people into our businesses that require the exact service and skill that changes the course of their lives in the direction they so desperately desire. Is it financially sustainable to grow above that, month on month? Absolutely! We’ve now got the opportunity to reach a worldwide audience of 7,846,000,000 right at our fingertips. With more ways than one to serve different levels of clients, right where they are on their journeys. The earning possibilities are endless! But how big will you allow yourself to dream? So, what’s the next big goal or project for Rita Roushdy? What do you have in front of you? Currently, the most popular offering is to work with me on a 1:1 basis. Something magical (yet scientifically proven) happens when clients are able to step into an expansive and profound transformation as a result of a deep dive into uncovering subconscious limiting beliefs (that affect 95-99% of what we manifest into our reality) to completely align their mind, body, and soul to their desired result. My mission is to simply work with high-level women who are ready to completely transform their relationship with money. I work with women who are ready to watch as they reach 6 figures and multi 6 figure milestones within their businesses. We achieve this by working together to heal their money stories and limiting beliefs to reprogram their subconscious mind with new empowering beliefs and to expand them into their big money goals, instead of falling into current fear-based money patterns. It is through this work, we can uncover the natural state of abundance that we all have the power to bring back to the surface. Your clients have said some great things about you. Can you share their thoughts and results from working with you? Absolutely! My latest testimonial states that my client now easily attracts her dream clients, she continues to receive applications from people who would love to work with her at a high price point offering, creating a consistent income of £20K per month for the past 2 months within her coaching business and hitting 6 figures this year. She now doesn’t experience fear when it comes to increasing her prices to the current level and has released the scarcity mindset that money will run out which originally was her main issue as she decided to reach out to work with me. - Prepare to Deal with Despair and Stress
Written by: Henrik Pettersson, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. "Without humor, I would have been dead a long time ago." US President Abraham Lincoln noted stress as an enemy of strong performance. Partly a paradox because as it gets things done, it also makes us secrete norepinephrine which has the following effects: That we should flee. That we should fight. Or play dead. Stress increases our ability to concentrate and gives us strength. Despite this, we interpret the feeling as negative. Stress does not help us solve our tasks but only leaves us helpless. We worry about things unnecessarily. We twist and turn every conceivable scenario. Plus or minus. If we decide ourselves for plus, we choose the strong way. If we decide on a minus, we take the weaker one. That's life! You get what you deserve. As you sow, you reap. Life gives us what we deserve. It's just a matter of time. And to ask the right questions. When the children say they need 50 dollars, it is seldom enough for us to open our wallets. But if they instead ask what they would need to do to earn fifty dollars, we begin to think. The right kind of questions builds value. What do you need to do to earn what you want? Now it´s possible to see what kind of effort you are willing to make to get what you want. We all have needs, but very few have the ability — to first ask what they need to do — to deserve it. The solution is to ask for the code needed — for the door with opportunities should be opened. You can't go out into the field and harvest without sowing, right? You can’t lose 10 kg without doing the job required. You cannot request a raise without being willing to add value. You can’t expect care from your partner without earning it. If you want something, you must first be willing to give. Like sitting in front of the fireplace and saying: give me warmth, and then I’ll cut the wood. You have to do the job first. Taking care of yourself is important. Otherwise, you can’t be of any use to others. So it’s self-leadership on a high level. But if you will be truly successful, you need to look up and ask yourself how you can add more value to more people? If you want to gain confidence in the big things, you should also show it in the small things. To deliver regardless of the level, like becoming that extraordinary person who takes and gets responsibility for more and bigger things. A story from the Bible is about a merchant who is going on a journey and calls in three of his servants. He gives one of the servants a talent, the other three, and the third five talents. Then, he asks them to take care of the talents in the best way until he returns. The one who got a talent goes away and buries it in a secret place. The one who got three talents does business and earns three more. The one who got five also doubled the money. When the merchant came back and called in the three servants to review the results, the one who got five talents stepped forward and said he had invested the money and earned five more. Well done, says the merchant. The one who got three says that he too has invested his talents and has three more to give to his master. Well done, says the merchant. The one who only got one talent did not dare to risk, so he dug down his coin. The merchant then says: Give your talent to the servant with the 5 talents. It's one thing to fail, but you have not even tried. Sen's moral: If you do not sow, you can not reap. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and subscribe to my Youtube channel! - Impact of the Past
Written by: Nadine Zeinoun Khoury, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Has your past really passed? Have you ever been in a situation where you had to work with someone and, for no particular reason, you just couldn’t tolerate them?! Or perhaps you felt that you just couldn't be yourself when you are around this person, and this really bugged you? Well, I recently encountered this situation with a colleague, and I must say, it wasn’t a pleasant feeling at all! And what made the situation worse is that I had known this person back in college, and we had been quite close, so she was actually delighted that we would be working together. Unfortunately, I didn’t share that feeling at all, and that worsened the situation by sprinkling some guilt into the already unpleasant feelings I was going through. How to manage such difficult emotional situations? Well, frankly, in such a situation, I was faced with two scenarios: Either I ignore those feelings and get done with the common tasks; or I just say “no” to the project and move along to another project. Deep down, I knew that both of these scenarios would not serve me. Ignoring my feelings in scenario 1 would only make me a stronger victim of my emotions and would lead to lowering my output and productivity. On the other hand, scenario 2 would make me lose my power to make my own decisions, allowing my emotions to limit my growth. So, I asked myself this question: “What if there could be a third way? What would that be?” That is when I decided to actually own my feelings, take responsibility for my emotions, and get curious about them. Own your feelings. You know, it would have been very easy for me just to blame her for my feelings and getting creative about the reasons I don’t like her and why she is a bad person. However, the difficult thing to do is take responsibility for that emotion and really become curious about that feeling. What was making me feel uncomfortable with her? What did her presence trigger in me? And of course, it is not always easy nor pleasant to find answers to such questions! After deeply meditating and focusing my curiosity around this, I was swept away with the information I learned about myself! I discovered that the real reason I was feeling this dislike towards that person had nothing to do with her! You see, at the time in my life when I knew this person, I wasn’t in the best place ever. At that stage in my life, I was still confused about who I was, who I wanted to be, and how I would like to show up in this world. As a result, I spent most of my time blending in and trying to please people rather than standing up for what I truly believed in. In other words, I wasn’t truly living my Authentic Self! And because being authentic is a very important value to me, I guess I didn’t want to be reminded of those days. So that is why my brain had created these unpleasant feelings for me. So, you see what was happening? I was actually projecting that unpleasant feeling on this wonderful colleague of mine, convincing myself that it was her and not me! Wow! You cannot imagine the energy, strength, and freedom I felt once I discovered this! My past was actually limiting me, and I had no idea! Moving Forward. What are points of your life being dictated by your past? Take a few moments to think about that. Who are the people at work that trigger some unpleasant feelings in you? Write their names down now! Now, become curious about these emotions and try to dig deeper to gain more awareness about what is going on and how your emotions are taking control and victimizing you. Once you shed light on these details, you will be ready to move forward with your actions! - A Week in a Cabin Trolley – 5 Tips
Written by: Ana In Style, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I used to be a terrible packer. I would take half of my apartment with me because I did not know what I would need on my trip. I would take many things with me just in case. What if we went to a fancy restaurant, what if we went hiking, what if I get dirty or wet? What if it gets cold? My packing was led by “what if” and “just in case.” Until I did my research, tested my findings, refined them, and came up with an optimal solution. The result is a jampacked cabin trolley with a week’s worth of items and enough room for a 13” laptop. How to have it all? When I travel, I want to be prepared for anything and everything without needing to cut on space or style. Here are my 5 proven tips that can make it possible. 1. Choose items made of lightweight, fast-drying, stretchy materials. This will save you your strength, space in the suitcase, time wasted for drying and ironing, and effort so that you can devote your attention to more important or fun things. Because your items will dry fast, you will need a smaller number of items even if you take longer trips. Learn how to fold, roll, or use packing cubes to minimize the bulk. For extra space and lightness, put your cosmetic products in a zip-bag rather than a bulky makeup pouch. Use a microfiber towel instead of your usual terry towel. 2. Think outside the box. Choose versatile items that can be worn in many ways. A long jersey tube dress, for example, can be worn as a long or short dress, a tunic, a top, a long or short skirt, a scarf, a wrap, or even as a belt. Certain styles of tops and dresses can be worn backward and can create a completely new look. 3. Make every item count. Choose basics so that you can create a mini capsule wardrobe. This means you choose 1 or 2 neutral colors. For example: black, white, beige, grey, or navy - and 1 or 2 matching accent colors. Everything needs to look good with everything so that you can mix and match according to the current occasion and weather. Two-piece outfits are more versatile than dresses. If one item gets dirty or wet, you can still use the other one, while with the dress, you will be short on a top and a bottom piece at the same time. Use versatile makeup. Your lipstick can function as a blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow. Choose ombre lipstick, and you will have two or even 3 colors in one. For variety, you can also opt for a temperature-changing color lip balm. Or you choose small makeup palettes that include an eyeshadow and a lip gloss, for example. Take small travel bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and soap bar with you, or get some samples. Use natural Aleppo soap bars that will not dry out your skin, and you can also use them for washing your clothes. Depending on your skin type, a neutral, mild body lotion for sensitive skin and/or sunscreen can function as a face cream at the same time. Get inspiration for hairstyles and hairdos that work for you, and leave the electric hairbrush at home. If your hair dries slowly, take the electric hairbrush, and leave your hairbrush and blow dryer at home. 4. Choose 3 pairs of shoes, max. If you need to take heels with you and do not own shoes with interchangeable heels, wear them while traveling. Never take new shoes on a trip! Remember, every item counts, and if they are not comfortable, you will have a problem. If you are flying with a plane, make sure your heels are on the thinner side, or you might be asked to take your shoes off for inspection. Also, add: 1 pair of lightweight sporty or casual shoes for colder or rainy weather 1 pair of versatile sandals with interchangeable features. Versatile shoes come in different forms. You can get: Clogs with interchangeable shoe tops (based in the USA) Shoes with interchangeable straps (based in the USA) Shoes with interchangeable heels (based in France) Sandals with interchangeable straps (based in Australia) 5. Use jewelry and accessories for dressing up or down. With interchangeable items, you get so much leverage. A sandal with interchangeable straps or a versatile clog can be used for going to the beach with one set of funky straps or tops, sightseeing or shopping with a more neutral set, and having a fancy dinner with the third, more glamourous set. Jewelry doesn’t take much space. Therefore you can take with you as many items as you please. But leave the best pieces at home. For safety reasons. Many countries are not safe for tourists or foreigners. A scarf is a must-have. It can function as a wrap, a headband, a skirt, a top, a bag, a jumper, and much more. Plus, it functions as another layer if it gets chilly. If you add a belt, you have just increased the number of options even more. - An Exclusive Interview with Life Design Coach Jesi Carroll
Jesi, Certified Life Design Coach, specializes in mentoring career-driven women to find more fulfillment in their life as she guides them through the navigation of chaos on the way to purpose. Having spent over 6 years working at some of the biggest corporations in the world as a Recruiter, she is a master relationship builder and understands how to help people achieve high levels of success while maintaining integrity along the way. She's ready to combine her career success strategies with her 10+ years of psychology and personal development education to show you how to have it all! She offers 1on1 Life Coaching, Mindset and Self-Love Healing, Career Transition Guidance, and Self-Purpose Discovery. It's time to heal at the soul level and get back to who you were truly meant to be! Who is Jesi? I am someone who sees the world quite differently than I used to. Life has allowed me to go from the MOST unconfident person to someone who understands the power she has to make life everything she’s ever desired (and more). It has been such a journey to get to this point, but I wouldn’t trade it because I love who I’ve become. And I know that’s only possible because of who I’ve been until now. My personal life has involved a lot of hardship, heartbreak, and tough lessons along the way but serves as the foundation I am proud to stand on. About a year and a half ago, I had an “aha” moment that I was going to start my life over again. I sold all my major furniture, got rid of my car, broke my apartment lease, quit my six-figure salary job, started a business, and moved from Seattle to Austin, TX, to live with a boyfriend at the time. It all happened so fast (within about a month to be exact) but what this did was force me to really look at myself and see myself clearly for the first time. It helped me ask better (and more important) questions about what I wanted out of my life. It helped me to build a new relationship with myself and taught me how to intentionally create my life. Since then, I have attracted abundance in so many ways, and I know it’s just the beginning! Oh, and I have one cat named Snow (Jonathan Snow is his real name on the adoption paperwork, haha), and I love to dance. Dance, to me, is the quickest way to release any stuck energy you may be feeling. If you ever need me, you can be sure to find me blasting Latin music, dancing in the kitchen, soaking at the moment. What is it that you do for your clients? I help career-driven women and men navigate the chaotic times that transitional periods of life can bring. From careers to relationships to clarity around purpose, to healing self-love and even mindset blocks. My mission is to help bring peace and fulfillment back into people’s lives but in a way where they gain control of their experience and have real action steps to move forward with at each turn. Life will inevitably create ups and downs for us so that we can experience (and learn from) the contrast. I am here to show people the power they have within themselves to handle these experiences with increasing grace so the tough times don’t penetrate so much. I show people how to tap into their internal self and become (and feel) powerful vs. powerless in life. Who should hire/work with you? I would say my work is best suited for people who are not new to the personal development world. The people who work best with me are ready for a serious change in their lives and feel ready to put real energy into making moves towards happiness. They are the ones who know investing in themselves is the best thing they can ever do and are done with excuses as to why they don’t have what they want or aren’t where they want to be. They have lifted out of the victim mentality and just need guided action steps to get where they’re looking to get. They are open to learning and open to more for themselves, even if they don’t know what that is quite yet. They’re open to trusting the process as well as their curiosity. What do you wish more people knew about working with a Coach (of any kind)? I wish more people knew that this was an available resource. There is a coach for everything, and it is much more cost-effective than you might think. No one has to figure everything out on their own anymore these days. You just need to be willing to raise your hand and ask for help. But sometimes, that takes knowing what’s available to you. Coaches are a great option because many works in a 1on1 capacity and can tailor support specifically for you and where you’re at right now, which helps create the desired results faster. Everything becomes more aligned (and more fun) once you work with a coach. Have you always known you would be a Life Coach? I always knew I loved mentoring others but didn’t know that I ever saw myself becoming a full-blown Life Coach until about 5 or 6 years ago. Ever since I was 15 years old (maybe even younger), I remember people my age and older coming to me for advice, and I consistently had great ideas to help them with. I loved how it felt seeing people experience an “aha” moment of clarity and the sense of ease it brought them to after we connected. I’ve continued to be a mentor for people since then and think the magnetization that mentorship has to me eventually inspired me to turn it into more. I remember I had started thinking about it a little more seriously one day and decided to let my curiosity lead the way, which led to me getting my first official certification as a Life Coach. But even then, it would take me another 2 years to turn it into a business. But now that I have, there’s no turning back! What is your big goal/your mission? Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? This is such a big question, but I love the word mission. I guess that’s really more of what it all feels like for me. I’m not here to be just another coach, motivating you to live a life you love. I’m here to help you actually create the life you deserve and to show you how to do it. I’m a big advocate for action steps and practical advice you can implement now. So for me, my overall goal and mission are to help as many people as I possibly can, and to do that takes larger platforms and more visibility. So in the next 10 years, I plan to be known for my work. I plan to regularly speak on stages, having authored a book on the big podcast circuit, leading/hosting large retreats and events, working with influential thought leaders on collaborations for movements to help change lives at scale. This is all just scratching the surface of what I will be doing, but even this has me excited for what’s ahead. What are your top 3 tips within your expertise? My top 3 tips I would give as a Life Coach are not sexy, but they are things that, over time, create lasting change and true happiness. They are the first things I suggest doing to build a stronger foundation as an individual. I don’t care who you are. You cannot escape these things if you want to live better. They are: Journal and then journal some more to bring awareness into what kinds of thoughts you’re thinking and become in touch with your emotions and face them. Observation is key before you can make any real change. Meditate (which all this means is to become present at the moment you’re in). This can be done anywhere at any time. It just involves stillness. If you want to make it juicier, sit down and give yourself 10-15 minutes with your eyes shut and zen it out. But know that it is not required to meditate. Practice controlling your breathing. This gives us control over how we react to the world around us. The more we spend conscious time with our breath, the calmer we are throughout each day. The calmer we are, the less reactive we become, and the more joy we experience because we know that outside situations do not control our state. Bonus tip: For fun, I wanted to throw another one in there. Get good sleep. Prioritize it. That’s because this is the root of being willing and even able to put the other 3 tips into practice. It nurtures the lens through which we view the world. Sleep powers the machine of the body and is crucial to living well. What’s one piece of advice you would give for anyone going through a transition or crossroads in their life right now? A key piece of advice I share with all my clients is that the reason they suddenly feel overwhelmed, filled with mixed emotions, and maybe even paralyzed with how to move during a time of crossroads and transition is that they are supposed to experience that. It is part of the restructuring process that is changing. It’s uncomfortable, it’s messy, and it’s filled with zero clarity. It’s annoying and stressful, and trusts me, I get it and have been there so many times I’ve lost track. But it’s important to know that chaos creates opportunity (if we let it). So we have to learn to embrace the awkward (temporary) experience that change brings and say thank you for it because it means we are about to have a breakthrough and become closer to peace as we enter the next chapter of where we’re meant to be. The undesirable emotions are a natural part of the process. So accept it and sit with it and allow it to teach you something valuable to take into the upleveling. What’s something you live by? Everything requires a gestation period. For example, it would be weird to get pregnant and then the next day have a baby. There is a required and necessary process from the time of conception until birth so that not only is that baby ready to come into the world, but the parents are ready as well. It all happens at its perfect timing. I really believe this concept to be true for every other aspect of life too. The things we want and desire most require a gestation period and patience. We need to trust that the orders we’re putting in are being made and going to deliver at their perfect timing. Have patience, become excited for it to arrive, and trust that it will. This thought process has gotten me through a lot in my life, and I continue to live by this today and every day. Follow Jesi on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin and visit her website. - 5 Easy Methods to Build Confidence
Written by: Kamini Wood, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Healthy confidence means that we feel good about ourselves. Confidence reflects our belief in ourselves and our ability to succeed. If you struggle with low self-esteem, you might be seeing yourself as unworthy, incompetent, and incapable. These negative self-thoughts can prevent us from seizing opportunities at work, in school, and in social life. Striking a balance between too much and too little confidence can improve your resilience, help you deal with life challenges, make you feel appreciated and proud of yourself. Healthy self-esteem can help you make positive life choices and attract success in your life. So How to Build Your Confidence? Learning strategies on improving confidence can help you take a different perspective about your skills and competencies, improve the quality of your personal, professional, and social life, and enhance your mental health. 1. Mindful Meditation Mindfulness is often described as our basic ability to be totally aware of the current moment and be fully present in it. Mindfulness boosts your self-awareness and enables you to process your self-critical thoughts while in a state of deep relaxation. In addition, mindful meditation can improve your mood, increase your optimism, and boost your self-respect. 2. Gratitude Series of studies by psychologist Robert Emmons Ph.D., a leading gratitude researcher, proves that keeping a gratitude journal can be one of the most powerful tools in boosting confidence, improving your mood, and enhancing mental and physical well-being. We often tend to take the good things in our life for granted. When was the last time you took a moment to reflect upon the things that enrich your life? Try counting your blessings each morning and evening. Remember all those things that conjure a feeling of appreciation and write them down. This exercise will increase your self-assurance, help you experience more positive emotions, and strengthen your social relationships. In addition, gratitude can significantly increase your self-respect and life satisfaction. 3. Boundaries Setting the boundaries toward your life experiences, people, and situations will help you recognize what you are and are not comfortable with. Furthermore, firm boundaries will help you let other people know about how you feel. Request others to request your boundaries and be assertive – express your needs in a calm but firm and confident way. 4. Affirmations Affirmations or positive statements about ourselves can significantly improve your confidence. Make sure to affirm yourself constantly. We tend to think, feel, and act according to our self-perception. Thus, repeating the things that you love about yourself will imprint these statements in your subconscious mind and attract positive outcomes in your life. 5. Visualization Visualizing yourself as the person you want to be can establish and boost your self-confidence. Focus on the goals you want to achieve and the positive feelings about them. In addition, set clear goals and clarify the strategies to accomplish them. A visualization is an excellent tool in achieving success and building a positive self-image. Create a vision board to clarify your goals and strategies and keep them in your eyesight. Once you start feeding your subconscious mind with positive thoughts and feelings about yourself and your life prospects, you will learn how to recognize your strengths as well as the weak spots you need to work on. These cognitive strategies will help you accept yourself and improve your confidence. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or visit my website for more info! Read more from Kamini! - Three Ways to Step Into your Feminine Power for Business Leadership Success
Written by: Ciara Banerji, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. In my previous Brainz article, I spoke about Venus Rising in the workplace. How the corporate world is changing for the better as the power of feminine leadership is being acknowledged and championed, but there is still a long way to go. But what do I really mean by “feminine energy”? Today, I’m going to explore that and provide a breakdown of how you can immediately start to bring the power of your feminine energy into your leadership at work. The concept of masculine and feminine energy has a long history in many cultures and many Eastern philosophies. Finding the balance between these two complementary forces is key to bringing harmony to your life. In Western thought, the psychoanalyst Carl Jung describes how humans may embody the feminine or masculine but contain the other. Modern-day brain science suggests that whilst consistent differences between brains according to biological sex are limited, some may favor ‘systemizing’ ways of thinking and others ‘ empathizing ways of thinking. There tends to be a gender bias towards one versus the other. The important point is that we all encompass both masculine and feminine qualities, but these are helpful constructs in understanding certain groups of traits. It can be exhausting to be constantly only in one mode, whether a man or woman, especially if that limits us from our most authentic, natural way of being. Whilst it is increasingly recognized that great leadership actually requires balance and that manifesting feminine traits is beneficial, for many of us ‘trained’ in the masculine paradigm, it can require deliberate effort to step into our feminine energy in the workplace. That’s why I’m going to outline some of the most important ways you can harness feminine superpowers at work, whatever your gender. 1. Connecting, not commanding. One of the most natural feminine qualities is in forging friendships. Women are often skilled at developing bonds between themselves and others and may not even be aware of the instinctive abilities that allow them to do so. This includes actively listening to others and empathizing with what they say - putting themselves in their shoes on an emotional level. Being able to genuinely connect with people, whether direct reports or colleagues, makes garnering people’s cooperation much more straightforward. It’s simply a lot easier to persuade someone to do something if they like you and respect you! Here are some ideas to help you create meaningful connections: Be willing to show vulnerability - share a story of a time when things didn’t go so well for you, and how you were able to overcome it, or what you learned through failure. Expand relationships - go out of your way to get to know people you may not work with day to day: share a joke, find something in common, and have a chat at the coffee machine. These may seem trivial, but if connecting isn’t a habit in a masculine-charged workplace, these small interactions can start a shift. Demonstrate trust, give credit - the most effective leaders give their teams scope to try things their way, even when you might have chosen differently. Make it clear that you are open to new ideas and approaches and offer praise generously for successes or innovations. 2. Champion other women. It’s unfortunate that women can be other women’s harshest critics and can be especially quick to call out those who ‘behave’ in ways that are out of the accepted norm. Who hasn’t heard female politicians described as too strident, or on the other side, too soft? As a female or male leader in business, you can use your limelight to inspire others and to champion other women by: Call out other women’s success or effort - make it a deliberate policy to openly compliment female co-workers on achievements or instances where they stepped up or outside their comfort zone. Highlight them to other senior staff or HR where possible. Give space to women in meetings - women notoriously tend to speak up less in meetings and may even find themselves spoken over. Whenever you hold meetings, pay particular attention to ensuring that the women in the room are given a chance to share and are encouraged to do so. Provide growth opportunities - as a leader in an organization. You might have the ability to grant opportunities for women in earlier stages of their careers, whether that is simply shadowing a more senior member of staff or promoting structured coaching programs for women. Set out a growth pathway when/if women get to the stage of starting a family that works for everyone. 3. Play, create and shine! One of the surest ways to bring out your natural feminine energy is by getting playful, creative, and seeing your ability to shine as an inspiration for others. You don’t have to work in a creative profession to introduce these qualities to your workplace. But you can be sure that you will lower stress levels by doing so and improve problem-solving and productivity. Just by bringing a feeling of excitement to your day, offering an encouraging smile, or joking around, you can foster a sense of fun, as well as: Introduce play to projects — even where a project might seem routine, there is always scope for creatively, for example, make a time for the team to consider how they might do an aspect of the work differently, or run a ‘namestorm’ to come up with a fun or creative internal name for a product or piece of work. Create rituals for celebration — celebrate small team successes together by ringing a bell or high fives. Major milestones come up with surprise rewards like gift cards, funny t-shirts, or ordering pizza. Do you — be comfortable as yourself at work, whether that’s wearing your most vibrant clothes, telling jokes, or sharing openly. Drop the persona, and let your true self show. Shine and receive — Start to see your ability to shine as an inspiration for other women, collaborate, lead, show confidence and pride in what you have achieved so others may follow in your footsteps. If you are a male leader, create the platform for women to be acknowledged as powerfully as men. Whatever your corporate or business culture, there are always opportunities to bring feminine qualities to your workplace consciously. I know that those that make the shift and create that authentic balance will be the leaders and companies to thrive in the future. - Why It's Important to Understand Your Value As A Woman Entrepreneur
Written by: Kelisha Mills, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. For the past few months, I have been thinking a lot about my 13 years of experience as a female entrepreneur. It can be easy to discount my many accomplishments; academically, mentally, physically, and spiritually. And that's what most women do. We discount ourselves and don't take the time to acknowledge and detail our value. That's also why we leave so much money on the table. I have watched my peers leave money on the table because they don't know their value and worth as a woman entrepreneur. They don't understand that their value goes beyond just what's listed on their resume. The value goes much deeper than just an income history, title, or accomplishments. The value of a woman entrepreneur is tied to how she has persevered and thrived, despite the odds stacked against her. Today, I want to talk about understanding your value as a woman entrepreneur. It's important to know your value to make good business decisions about compensation, benefits, and negotiations. The focus should be on how you can continue to make money for yourself and your business so that you can continue to expand into new markets and increase profitability with each venture. There's no better time than right now to be a female entrepreneur. You don't have to wait for a recession or economic downturn to have the ability and opportunity to be the woman of your business dreams. It's important to know what you bring into a business venture. Unfortunately, many women entrepreneurs are trying to change their value by trying on new hats: CEO, CFO, etc... This doesn't work because you aren't changing your worth or changing your value as a human being who needs her dollars. You can't add dollar signs to your resume once you have it. As a woman entrepreneur, your value is constantly being debated. Are you good enough? Too ambitious? Not ambitious enough? There are many judgments made about your value without you even being present. For women entrepreneurs, it's vital to have our stories told so that we can stand on our own two feet. If successful women entrepreneurs can redefine what success means, it will spread to other women looking for their success versions. As women entrepreneurs, we have a lot of internalized shame about being weak, dependent, and unworthy. These self-defense mechanisms are powerful because when we confront them, we feel exposed and vulnerable. We internalize the idea that we are not strong enough or smart enough or able enough to run our own lives, even though we know it's simply not true. Some attributes that make up a woman's worth as an entrepreneur are hard work, perseverance, creativity, ambition, a drive to succeed, and so much more. The question we should be asking ourselves is not which attributes a woman should possess but rather how we can best use our gifts as women entrepreneurs. It is essential that we look at the work that makes each woman an entrepreneur, not simply what she does after being born into the business world. Your value as a woman entrepreneur is a combination of strengths and weaknesses that define who you are as a person. The people around you influence whether you're viewed as an attractive option for a job or promotion. The way you conduct yourself at work and in the community affects the perceptions of others toward you. Even how often you appear in public can influence how your clients perceive you. Your value is what makes you valuable. When you become an entrepreneur, the changes in your life that bring value are often profound. This starts with recognizing your unique profile of abilities and strengths. Then use that information to determine how much you're worth to your prospective customers, clients, and investors. There's no right or wrong answer to this question, but I guarantee you, your value is high! There have always been advantages associated with being a woman in business and entrepreneurship. But, as we gain more exposure and opportunities for leadership roles in various industries, there are additional benefits that we should consider and celebrate alongside those inherent in being a “woman.” I would suggest starting with understanding your strengths. Consider taking the Clifton Strengths Finder Assessment and use the results to maximize your potential at work, in your business, and everywhere else. - 3 Ways to be the Most Beautiful Parent Forever
Written by: Safia Haque , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. It’s so sweet when children call their mum, dad, grandmother, or grandad the most beautiful person in the world. Don’t we all want to swim in that feeling and never stop being that beautiful person to our children? I will share with you 3 very simple and immediately implementable actions that you can take to be that beautiful person for your children forever. 1. Smile, smile, and smile some more. When we have a welcoming, smiling face whenever our child walks into the room, welcoming them home, telling them that it’s good to see them and to have their beautiful company, it changes the whole relationship, your child will look forward to coming home to you or if they are home they will look forward to seeing your smiley face whenever they can. Just a simple smile uplifts us and everyone around us, and the bonus is that we look beautiful to ourselves and the people around us. When you think about someone, you might have spent a lot of time with as a child yourself. What was that person like? Did they smile a lot and welcomed you whenever you approached them. It’s one of the top attractive qualities in people, and you can have it too by becoming aware of how much you smile and then double and triple the amount day by day. From personal experience, I can tell you this really works, and when I have a serious face now, my kids ask me immediately why I have a serious face, and that is good too as they notice the absence of the smile. So smile the world away. It has not harmed any parent but only made them the most beautiful to their children. 2. Put gentleness in all that you do. When we are gentle in how we speak, we handle ourselves and our children, our world becomes so beautiful. It’s the little things that count; a gentle word goes a long way, and gentleness makes actions beautiful. We handle delicate things with so much gentleness. If we handle our small or older kids with that gentleness and care, it does wonders for our relationships. When we gently and carefully lay the table with our children or help them with gentle reminders to get their homework done or complete the chores that have been set, it beautifies the reminders. They become a source of comfort and not something that is burdening or stressful. Slowing right down is also a way to add more gentleness to actions that have to be done daily. It allows us to do them with awareness and makes them calm and gentle in that way too. 3. Spent time together with nothing on your mind and for no reason, but for the sake of being together only. In our day-to-day fast lives, we can forget about just hanging out together and making beautiful connections. In Mexico, interestingly, some people just sit together and don’t even need to talk, but it is enough to have each other company without any agenda or demands from each other. I found this practice very attractive, as it takes us back to valuing each other’s presence and company without all the pressure of having to provide some other added value or activity to entertain. When we do this with our children, it takes the pressure of them and us to always have to do something to be together. Just their company is enough, and nothing else has to be going on to spend time together. Smile, be gentle, and hang out together to make connections are the 3 secrets to staying beautiful forever for yourself and your children. Stay beautiful, and we can make the world a more beautiful place together. For more info, follow me on Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn and visit my web site ! Read more from Safia! - How to Turn Reaction Into Intentional Action
Written by: Jessica Dahlberg, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Do you sometimes feel like you have a love and hate relationship with your business? As entrepreneurs, we love what we do! The opportunity to serve our clients to make their life better in some way makes our mission deeply meaningful. Seeing the positive impact on their business or their life is inspiring. Our work is truly our life work, not just busy work. But... Sometimes the frustrations over the slow progress can send you into a spin of doubt or frustration. All the enthusiasm drains away, and the motivation levels drop to rock bottom. Next thing you find yourself walking down the street feeling like a storm cloud has parked itself in your chest. Or, seething in frustration wishing that if your co-founder or team would do things more like you, then surely results and progress would be so much quicker. As though they are finding great joy in getting busy with other things, completely forgetting THE most important task. You feel the frustration, even anger, growing rapidly, and you unleash on your team, co-founder, or even your partner. It happens right! So, what do we DO? Stop! Our need for “doing” to fix things is the very thing that creates this negative cycle. It’s time for a different approach. We are encouraged to be mindful, meditate and shift our perspective. Those are useful techniques. But there is another key step that is even more helpful because it has the power to turn reactions into intentional actions where you are in the driver’s seat. What’s the solution? Well, if you are a compulsive “doer,” then the answer is going to ask you to stretch a bit. So here it is. Self-observation. How do we do self-observation? Well, you don’t. Instead, think back at the last time you found yourself in the above situation or similar circumstances. What was the sensation you felt just before you were about to unleash your frustration? Perhaps a tense jaw, a knot in the belly, or an intense sense of needing to move. What was your next action? An argument with someone or beating up on yourself or going for a fast walk or just pushing back from the desk sitting there staring into the universe. Whatever your answers to these questions are, know that you’re not alone. The new approach is to start to use our reactiveness as a signpost for what our behaviors can be when stress hits. Using self-observation to turn the reactiveness into a game of “how quickly can I notice” and shift it to choosing your actions to stop the draining of your energy and messing up key relationships. It’s a bit like playing tennis. Unless you are aware of how you hold the racket, the positioning of your feet, and the angle of your body in relation to the net, you will not be able to control where the ball goes. Practice, and you will intuitively know when you are in the right position to hit it perfectly. Why would you want to do go to the trouble? Here is a powerful reason why: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom” — Author Viktor Frankl. Once you learn to become aware of the physical reactions, there’s your weapon against being reactive, and you have taken the first step towards creating intentional action. What’s next? Here are 3 easy steps to take. Let’s say you have a big week coming up. You know there are a number of situations that may challenge you. Step 1: Prepare by simply recognizing that, okay, this week is likely going to be a “trigger happy” week full of events that are going to be frustrating. Step 2: Set your intention by getting clear on how you want to show up when those situations arise. Will you listen more, ask more questions, drive harder, have more empathy? Pick one that’s relevant for each situation. Step 3: How will you remember? To think that you will calmly remember is a little ambitious even for the most focused of us. Instead, create a reminder system. Will it be a pop-up on your phone 10min before the meeting or halfway through the day to check in with how you are showing up so far? Self-observation and knowing our typical reactions will only be useful if you have a way to remember in the pause BEFORE you react. If you want to 10x your progress and maintain a steady momentum in your business, then finish each week by reviewing how you went. Celebrate what you did well and set an intention for how you can improve. Want more from Jessica? Join her Facebook group and follow her on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. - What is the #1 Parenting Tip that Your Child Desperately Craves?
Written by: Karen Gibson, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. If parenting were a gourmet dish, its secret ingredients would include love, discipline, consulting, and guidance. Supportive parents make it a priority to show their children that they are loved no matter what, and even if they fail a class, commit a crime, or engage in behavior that breaks a parent’s heart. The most challenging part of parenting is keeping one's cool when their child disrespects them. How does a parent handle their frustration and disappointment if their child is arrested? What if your child swears at you in anger? What is the million dollar secret to loving children when they give you an attitude, refuse to do homework, experiment with alcohol before the legal drinking age, or don't obey your rules? Realize that you control your own emotional life. Are you taking on a responsibility that is not yours? Keeping this perspective in the midst of anger seems impossible. However, if you practice this one tip, you will not only seriously save your sanity, your kids will grow into adults who feel unconditionally loved, accepted, and valued. It is normal to feel intense hatred towards your child during their challenging behavior. Remind yourself that your child's value isn't defined by their poor choices or misbehavior. It's easy to focus on the situation that causes you extreme anger and less on your child. Keep in mind that overreacting can result in damaging the emotional connection with your child. Parents are often alienated when arguments arise, and their adult children feel that life without interacting with their parents would be more peaceful, less chaotic. Parents may feel embarrassed, helpless, and ultimately angry — emotions that don't lead to feelings of liking or love. However, t's important to keep in mind that your child's behavior is his or her attempt to get unexpressed needs met, which does not reflect on your parenting. Focus on your child's strengths. Focus on loving your child no matter what! Follow me on Facebook , Instagram , and LinkedIn for more info! Read more from Karen! - 3 Keys To Create Unf*ckwithable Confidence
Written by: Alaina Schwartz, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Unf*ckwithable confidence results from becoming unconsciously competent. People believe that they need to be good at something first, and then they develop confidence. But it’s actually the inverse. You develop confidence by building the plane as you fly it. In other words, taking consistent action and seeing improvement in your results builds confidence. It requires moving through fear and into action. What does it take to be able to move through fear into action? Feeling the fear and doing it anyway. People often think the way to deal with fear is by becoming fearless. NO. SUCH. THING! There’s nothing wrong with fear. Let’s make it OK to feel fear. It’s just an indicator, a guide to help you understand what to do. It’s important to learn how to interpret fear and not perceive it as an indicator to take your foot off the gas. As entrepreneurs grow and scale their businesses, they are moving out of their comfort zones regularly. They’re becoming more visible and moving into uncertain territory. It means at each new level, they might experience fear of the unknown, and their confidence may waver. It happens because our minds are like a database, an archive of all the meanings we gave all past experiences. So the next time you experience something that feels unfamiliar to any past experience, your mind searches the database and looks for how it’s done it before and survived. It wants to ascribe the same meaning you gave the past experience to the current experience. Except there’s no past experience in the database because you’re doing something you’ve never done before - it’s in the unknown. So your subconscious mind feels fear because it doesn’t feel safe. If it doesn’t know it’s done something before and survived, it will try to put the brakes on to keep you alive because the subconscious mind’s primary job is to keep you safe and alive. Here are 3 things that help you move through fear to cultivate Unf*ckwithable Confidence: 1. FAITH - Faith is the ability to believe in something, even though we can’t see it yet. Faith is a muscle you build. I’m not talking about blind faith. When you shift your limiting paradigm and become aware of Universal Truths, faith becomes a natural extension of the growth of your awareness. 2. COURAGE - You must develop courage. Some people seem to be born with courage. Most of us, however, need to cultivate it. And it can be as easy as deciding to go for it. Courage allows you to move through fear into action. 3. ACTION - Once you grow courage and faith, it’s far easier to move into action and take risks. And by rinsing and repeating with CONSISTENCY, you build Unconscious Competence. You learn to trust yourself. Faith + Courage + Consistent Action = Unf*ckwithable Confidence. Imagine what your business would look like 3 months from now; if you had Unshakable Faith and Confidence, you absolutely KNEW that everything you really desired was unfolding?!?
