- Is Your Scalp Stressed?
Written by: Elana Cohen , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Stress can have a big impact on the health of our scalp and hair. When we're stressed, our body produces more cortisol, which can increase oil production on the scalp and lead to dandruff. In addition, stress can also disrupt our sleep patterns, which can further impact the health of our scalp and hair. It's important to practice self-care and manage stress levels to maintain a healthy scalp and hair. I personally, like many especially in today’s society am extremely stressed and suffer from severe anxiety. When I get anxious my body is the one to tell me, it is feeling it. One of the issues I deal with in terms of physical symptoms of my stress is an extremely dry and itchy scalp. I always have had somewhat of a dry scalp dealing with dandruff in the colder months. But now in my early 30s, I have noticed that my scalp has been taking the brunt of my anxiety and stress, becoming increasingly itchy, dry, flakey and noticeable to others. It not only was making me uncomfortable with the itchiness it was also making me even more self-conscious than I already am due to the flakiness sometimes showing on my hair. I have tried many types of hair care products from over the counter to prescriptions from my dermatologist. Nothing ever worked and that in it's self-made me increasingly more anxious, stressed and uncomfortable. As I noticed this past winter my scalp was becoming increasingly worse and I was determined to find a product I hadn’t used yet and hope for positive results. I came across the Yesto brand and their new Tea Tree Scalp Relief Haircare products designed to soothe dry and itchy scalps. Tea Tree Oil, Sage Oil, and Salicylic Acid are all beneficial ingredients that can help to gently cleanse, moisturize, and soothe the scalp. I decided to do an experiment and use the product line for a couple of months to see if I saw any results and as luck would have it, I did! I usually am not great at sticking to routines especially when it comes to haircare and skincare but I was determined to try the treatment line and be consistent and patient while waiting for results. I have been using the haircare line for about four months now and I am happy to report my scalp is doing much better! I still have the dry itchiness but it has become much less irritated and uncomfortable. I will admit I was skeptical at first as I have tried so many of these types of products but the Yes To Tea Tree Haircare Line really worked its magic and I am pleasantly pleased with the results so far. The Yes To Tea Tree Haircare Line includes the following: Yes To Tea Tree Gentle & Soothing Pre-Shampoo Scalp Scrub - Say goodbye to buildup with this scalp scrub that helps cleanse and calm an itchy scalp. Yes To Tea Tree Scalp Relief Shampoo - Lather up to soothe and calm your dry, itchy scalp with this invigorating, pH-balanced shampoo. Yes To Tea Tree Soothing Scalp Treatment - Soothing scalp relief formula cleanses the scalp and removes buildup, dead skin and excess oils, leaving the scalp feeling healthy and calm. Yes To Tea Tree Scalp Conditioner - The finishing step to calm your dry, itchy scalp, this conditioner hydrates and softens hair with long-lasting moisture while it helps to soothe an irritated scalp with minty, tingly relief. - How To Evolve The Giving And Receiving Paradigm
Written by: Jeffrey Scholl, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. For most of my life, I believed I had to give to receive. When I did a web search today on giving vs. receiving, every article I found on the first two pages most articles had one thing in common. I had to give in order to receive. As I lay in bed this morning contemplating how to take my life to the next level, I heard the message that I had to learn to receive in order to give. The most profound realization I had this morning was that for me to exhale, I had to inhale first. I had never thought about it this way before and I have been practicing a conscious long, slow inhale and noticing how much it relaxes me. It made me realize how shallowly I often breathe, which creates more stress in my body whereas taking these deeper inhales has a calming effect. David Kegley wrote a great article about this. This concept also fits with the way the Law of Attraction works. We must first BE the vibration (feeling) of what it is we're seeking to experience to have that experience. In other words, we have to receive the feeling of the experience to be inspired to DO the things which will result in HAVING the experience. I learned this creation paradigm from Conversations with God – Book 1; BE – DO – HAVE. When I give more than I receive, it creates anxiety within me, just like when I breathe too shallowly. If I am not centered and calm, my mind will often tell me I must give even more to find the calm and balance I'm seeking, and yet for us to find that calm, we must do exactly the opposite. We must receive it first. An example would be if you are feeling undervalued in your job. If you allow your anxiety to guide your decisions, you may think you need to find a different job where they will value your contributions. When we feel anxious about our jobs, our minds will start piecing together all the evidence it can find to build the case to support this feeling. Our minds will tell us about the instabilities going on right now in the banking section, the tech layoffs, and then add any negative comments anyone has said to us…all to build the case to support the anxiety we already feel. Often, once our minds have collected enough evidence, the next thing we know, we are polishing our resumé and applying for new jobs, envisioning working for someone who will value us. Note that last part…we start envisioning a new situation and we add positive feelings to this vision. We don't envision a new situation with the same sort of problems we are having at our current job. We are creating a new situation with these positive feelings. Often, we may not get the job we want, however, because we then start feeling worried that we aren't qualified or there are better candidates, etc. We are now creating the opposite of what we want. We have the power to create what we want, but we must receive the feeling of having the experience we seek first and then practice that feeling over and over. If we do apply for a new job and we have been practicing the vision of working there and feeling valued in our position, we will take confidence into our interview process instead of anxiety. Having been on the other side of that hiring table, I am much more likely to hire the confident person, even if they are showing normal signs of nervousness. We may also find, however, that if we practice the feeling of being valued, something may change in our current job. This very thing happened to me a few years ago when I was unable to find any kind of connection with a VP to whom I reported. I started practicing the feeling of being understood and valued in my job and also started applying for jobs at other companies. Within a month, they hired a mid-level manager to put between us who had a completely different communication style. This change breathed new life into how I felt which enabled me to stay another 2 years in the role. I was also practicing this feeling just over the last week and today found out about an award for work I did over the last few years. It almost feels like I jumped timelines somehow from what I was experiencing just a few weeks ago. If you give too much of yourself, it can burn you out. Give yourself the gift of receiving first. Practice the feeling of what it is you desire as if you'd already received it. Then, just notice what changes either in your thinking, your situation, or both. - 10 Reasons Women Are Born Entrepreneurs
Written by: Jeanette Lowry, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. The Great Resignation occurred during the COVID lockdown in 2021 which had 47 million Adults leave the workforce according to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics. Yes, this left a hole in our workforce but on the upside, there was a surge in small businesses compared to the same time in 2019. An article in file; by Nicole Bowman, Nov 2022 titled “Home-Based Business Statistics to Know Going into 2023” said 60% of new entrepreneurs spent time during the lockdown learning how to start a business. As a mom of two adult kids, a new grandma and an entrepreneur since 1990, I wrote this article for those women struggling to make a choice to continue working 9-5 or follow their dream of becoming a home-based entrepreneur and why women are born entrepreneurs. Women Begin To Think Of Options Like Starting A Home-Based Business Many women felt pulled to be home for the sake of their kids and opted to negotiate splitting time at home and in the office during the workweek. Others began searching for a home business. According to the US Small Business Association, 50% of small businesses start at home. (Did you know Apple, Hershey’s and Ford Motor were all started at ‘home’?) An article to refer to When Considering Starting A Business During the lockdown with more time spent at home, moms began enjoying the pace of life that was opposite of the mock speed blur of their pre-Covid life. With more downtime to look up and enjoy the moment, many women began hearing that small quiet inner voice whispering “There has to be a better way.” The internal joy felt from leaving the ‘mom guilt’ and stress at their office came from being CEO of the family again with the ability to be present for the kids who were vulnerable during this stressful time. It became a demarcation point for many working moms to find a way to be home for their kids without losing their economic contribution to the family. Having Your Own Business Is The American Dream According to the Small Business Association, there are over 32.5 million small businesses and over half (19 million) are home-based. Two things to consider between going at it alone by becoming a solopreneur, you often work more hours getting your business off the ground which negates the time desired to be home for family. As a solopreneur, you are still exchanging time for money. Many women find a healthy balance by aligning with a Brand Partner or a solid Network Marketing company that offers products that she aligns with & falls in love with. Women make up a large majority of Network Marketing associates and top-income earners. The reasons make sense when you consider the flexible time commitment, being surrounded by like-minded people who aspire to something more personally, physically, socially, or financially. I’ve made a list of WHY Women and Entrepreneurship make a dynamic duo. Top 10 Attributes Women Possess That Make Us BORN ENTREPRENEURS! Women have a strong work ethic! They are born to live in a world that requires perseverance and dedication to compete in a business world still dominated by men. Most women I know are adept in Multitasking which can be a valuable trait for solopreneurs. Relationship building comes naturally for many women who often have lifetime friendships. Being a communicator who can come from both empathy and authority are innate in many women and a huge bonus when your business requires active listening and speaking. Having a High Emotional Intelligence where relationship building is a big plus in business ownership & entrepreneurial ventures makes women the perfect boss. Attention to detail is an important attribute for all things ownership to preserve what you’ve made and fend off mistakes easily overlooked without the attention to detail in place. Passion is something you can’t teach but if a woman follows her heart that passion can light a fire that will magnetically draw others towards her business. Women with Resilience are prepared to bounce back from setbacks that often occur when wearing the many hats of an entrepreneur/small business owner. Having the gift of creativity and innovation are valued traits in any line of work but especially if you are going at it alone. Finally, Networking is something many women naturally develop growing up. By working with other women to get coaching to learn and grow or a support system of like-minded women there to cheer your wins or comfort you during down times. - 6 Lessons I Learned From A Billionaire
Written by: AnneMie Decatte, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. To be honest, if you had told me in my early twenties that my life would look the way it does TODAY, I would have laughed. Not that I did not want this kind of life, of course, I would, but I simply would not have believed I would have access to such brilliant minds. What I can say with conviction is that life has taught me many lessons, some great, some not that enjoyable, however, I feel eternally grateful for all of them because as a result of all these life experiences I got to know myself on a much deeper level. I now share my life with an epic partner with whom I continue to learn and grow on all levels. And I have the most amazing business called Accountable Ethos in which I mentor people through the hurdles of life. I feel truly privileged to be part of the most elevated conversations one can have… Over the years I have met and worked with some incredible people who hold a very different views on life and on the world. Undoubtedly, this alternative vision and non-standard approach is responsible for delivering an outstanding contribution to humanity. Here below I would love to share six snippets from conversations I had with one of my billionaire clients, whom I will call X. All of these conversations have triggered something in my mind’s eye and I strongly believe that the willingness to see things differently is the key to bringing about change for the better. Therefore, I trust that these 6 ideas will serve you too in one way or another as they may contribute to you seeing things differently. So, here we go: 1. Success Is A Feeling Success is often defined as the ability to reach your goals in life, whatever those goals may be. In some ways, a better word for success would be attainment, accomplishment or progress. It is not necessarily a destination but a journey that helps develop the skills and resources you need to thrive. During my university times, the focus of success had always been in the measuring thereof, but I was wondering how this actually works if success means different things to different people? The conclusion I came to after my chat with X. was that ‘success is in fact a feeling’. A feeling of enjoyment and fulfillment you experience ‘on the journey’ to whatever you have set out for yourself. And of course, the feeling you experience once you reach your destination is just the cherry on the cake – and note the destination can change along the way or be extended when you reach it! 2. Understanding Cause And Effect This might come as a shock to some but, ‘When you profit, someone loses’ (in business, on the stock market, in life, etc.). However good something looks to the world, there is most of the time a polar opposite as a consequence. In order to have a win-win or even a win-win-win, everything depends on the perspective of the parties involved. Once you become aware of this concept, you also know that your actions have consequences, not only for you, but it has a much wider ripple effect on the people around you and perhaps even on the wider world. So, be mindful of whatever choices you make as your choice will undoubtedly impact others! 3. Time Is The Best Doctor In life many things will go your way, but also there will be unexpected events you did not see coming. Some of those events might even alter the way you see the world and perhaps even how you see yourself… While you are in the middle of the situation, going through this process of computing what and how this could happen, you will learn some extremely valuable lessons. And, ultimately, a situation you thought you could not ban from your mind will change slowly over time. Time heals, time repairs and time teaches big life lessons! Yes, time is for sure the best doctor! 4. Being Lucky Versus Doing Your Homework I won’t deny that luck exists. It is fair to say that some people are luckier than others; nevertheless, instead of gambling on being lucky in business or life, a safer bet is to see luck as a secondary contributor to your success. Doing your own research, learning how basic principles work, and being well-prepared are necessary to tackle a project with confidence. On top of that, seeking different opinions and possibilities regarding the subject will add that extra dimension of knowledge you might need to bring a deal across the line. Luck unquestionably exists but being well-informed and prepared will assist you to walk into the lucky room much easier. 5. Strategy For Continuous Improvement Regardless if you are looking for a strategy to improve your business or your life, you must be prepared and open for change, as that is the only constant! The strategy to continuously improve and grow in both business and in life works as follows: Picture a broad spectrum of your business or your life as it is today and set a standard of how you want it to be in an ideal situation. Then, assess and score each individual area. Once you have done that, pick the top 3 lowest scores and work on how you can improve them. Do this exercise every 90 days and you will notice that in the second quarter, the weak areas have become stronger and now you will have other areas to work on. This way you can keep on continuously improving your business and your life. 6. Very Successful People Are Human Too No matter how successful someone might be in business, they also experience hurdles on a personal level: with their family, their health, or their relationships. Another thing to keep in mind is that very successful people quite often only have knowledge in one niche area and are not experts in everything. Therefore, you should never idolize anyone; we can all learn from each other. And just like that, I trust I have sparked something new in your mind that you can apply in your life, perhaps a different way of seeing your situation or the world Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and visit my website for more info! - Stack Your Superpowers To Shed Extra Pounds
Written by: Georgette LePage, Senior Level Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. We tend to put ourselves down on a regular basis. We tell ourselves that we aren’t good enough as we are and that we can’t do certain things. We often sell ourselves short on everything. Why? The secret to achieving your weight loss goals is to find what you’re good at doing and use it as a strategy to lose weight. Work with your strengths to make progress! For example, if you are good at planning activities or events, start planning your meals for the week to include healthy options ahead of time so that you know what you are eating throughout the week. This includes creating a solid grocery list based on what you are going to cook and eat during the week. You could also plan your exercise by putting it on your calendar and honoring it like an appointment. That will help you to feel committed to show up and to keep that time set aside for moving your body. When you pencil it in on the calendar, it is more serious and more important. Chances are, you will stick to it with the same commitment that you would if it were an appointment. Perhaps you are good at cooking, so plan some new recipes for the week that will include more whole foods and fewer (or no) processed foods. Enlist the help of your family to contribute to meal making so that it’s not all work for you. It’s no secret that my culinary skills are very limited due to my lack of interest in cooking, but I’m a pretty helpful sous chef to my husband while he cooks. (I’m also good at buying groceries and cleaning up by doing the dishes.) Acknowledge what you are good at doing and find a way to incorporate it into your healthy lifestyle goals. Do you enjoy reading? Grab a book that talks about weight loss tips, trends, and practices in order to learn about ways to be healthier! Curious about intermittent fasting for example? There are so many free resources out there! There are also great investments available through programs, online memberships, and experts such as health coaches…just saying! Do your homework, be selective, and find the right people to guide you along. Another idea is to ask yourself what type of exercise or movement do you like? Look into what you can do to get started and get moving! Do you like walking? Dust off your treadmill and hop on or lace up those sneakers and go for a walk! Do you prefer a group exercise class at the gym? Look up the info and sign up so that you can show up sooner than later! Do you like to dance but haven’t done that in a while? Research what is offered in your area and sign up! Whatever lights you up is what you would benefit from starting to get your body in motion! You will always find the time for things that you have an interest in and that are important to you, right? So, find your inner Wonder Woman and get going on the path that will lead you to better health! There’s no time like the present, so get started by doing one small thing today! I know that you are worth it! CAUTION: How you do one thing is how you do everything, so expect that these new habits will show up in other parts of your life, as well. It’s very contagious! - New Wave Of Coaches
Written by: Sarah Tricker Alchemy, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Modern technology has opened our whole world into one small community. Not only is information freely available at our fingertips, so is the connection to people. I remember as a young child having a pen pal that we would write to in a school in France as part of our French class. From a seaside school in England to a French town was not even that far, just a quick ferry ride between the two. Today we can travel easily and cheaply with the added simplicity of connecting with people through many means such as Facebook groups. Our tribes are easy to access. With social media platforms came the wave of new coaches. It does not really matter which platform you choose to use today there are thousands of people selling you their lifestyle. People living in grand homes, sitting on beaches, or in exotic countries. The message is clear and you are most likely bombarded every day. You can have it all with just five minutes work lying on the beach. Is it really that simple? It is important to begin by looking deeper into the journey of the coach you are hiring. I invested in my certification for coaching in 2017. Personally, I still feel like I am new into this industry however, maybe I am one of the older generations now. Coaching has shifted and changed so much in these few years, and is continuing to shift. I started as a high school teacher. It was a big leap of faith to leave a secure job that included a good living wage, pensions, and benefits. What use is all of that if I was miserable? Here is one of the messages we are constantly fed. My children were the end of the Millennials and into Gen Z. They really have this view on life that if you don’t like it change it. That saturated into my life. I took the leap of faith and left my career. Stacked on my bookshelf are all the usual suspects; How to Win Friends and Influence People; Think and Grow Rich; The Secret; The Magic; Ask and It Is Given; the list goes on. Simple right, as long as you have the right mindset and take action you will become rich and famous. The fake it until you make it attitude! This is rampant in the coaching industry! Keep in mind that I went to university to learn how to teach. The process and everything that is in the background is deeper than people may think. It is a three year degree to learn all of these skills just to be proficient. Yet, we are in a world where any Joe blog can create a course and charge high end prices for them. Now understand, I am not saying that people can’t teach if they don’t have a teaching degree. Let me tell you a story. In 2021, I invested in a coaching course to learn some new skills in how to increase my coaching with the use of social media. The lady who ran it was indeed a successful coach, she had a great platform, a great team, and was living the dream. Definitely cannot deny that was her reality. So here I am, in this group with a cohort of women. Now I’ve already told you I left my teaching career and at this point had already been coaching for four years. I had over 100 people who had completed my coaching programs. I had created four programs with a process and people who had actually gone through them and made changes. Within this program were multiple women who were like yeah I want to be a coach. No training, just an idea in their heads. We all have to start somewhere right? Absolutely! Once upon a time we all had just an idea in our head and here we are today with it actualized. Here lies my beef with the fake it until you make it mentality we have in this industry. The creator of this course is telling these people, with no coaching experience, with no training, that they can create $5K programs. You don’t need a website, you don’t need experience, and you don’t even need to have a completed program. Just set it up and sell! As a trained teacher who has been thrown in at the deep end planning and executing a course on a whim is terribly hard work. Honestly, how would you feel if you spent $5K on program that someone hadn’t even created or even run through? You need your beta group to test run your theory and those people need to know they are the beta. There is a saturation of coaches in the new world as people are in search of the one fix pill. Everyone who is a coach has been though something in their lives and wants to help others get through it. A lot of time there are still coaches who are selling fugazi. It is true that when we create a coaching program we are condensing our own life lessons into a new process. There is a real disservice to the promises that are made when people sign up to coaching. People, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, there is no one fix pill. Whatever you are healing; relationships, health, money; the list goes on, there are layers upon layers of work that needs to be done. Spending $5K on a course that guarantees you’ll make $10k in 30 days is not going to happen. It might for a few and for a short term fix. Paradigms and habits take time to shift to be replaced with better ones. Life is going to going to continue to throw curb balls and you’ll need to work on the next layer. It takes 20 years to become an overnight success! I always thought that to be a negative saying until I became an entrepreneur. Then I started to realize that all of these people who flash their wealth don’t often talk about the years of struggle they had to get to where they are now. That a lot of time people are capitalizing on the lack that is rampant in others’ lives. Before you are dazzled by the empty promises of thousands of coaches please do your diligence and really look into who they are and what they actually do. What have they persevered through and is their process a proven one? Sarah is a spiritual life coach. - Top 13 Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make When Starting A Business
Written by: Lynda Sunshine West, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. If starting a business were easy, everyone would be doing it. You’re embarking on a journey like no other. Congratulations on taking the first step to freedom and being your own boss. Welcome to the laptop lifestyle. Becoming a successful entrepreneur takes courage, determination, and strategic planning. However, even with the best intentions, entrepreneurs often make mistakes that can set them back. In this article, we’re highlighting the top 13 mistakes that entrepreneurs make when launching their businesses. From comparisonitis to fear of failure to not knowing how to delegate, these common missteps can quickly derail an entrepreneur’s best-laid plans and cause them to lose valuable time and money. Read on to discover some of these pitfalls and how you can avoid them in your business endeavors. We recently surveyed various entrepreneurs to find out some mistakes they have made and lessons they’ve learned. What they share is very insightful and will help you know what to do and what to avoid as you go through your own entrepreneurial journey. 1. Let Fear Fuel You Forward Starting something new tends to be the hardest part. You can feel isolated and alone. In reality, though, it’s fear that prevents most potential entrepreneurs from taking action. The fear of failure is so powerful in so many people’s minds that they don’t even attempt it to see if they will succeed. We need to remember that failing is actually not a bad thing but is a step in the right direction as we learn what does and doesn’t work. Take these quotes for example: “Business owners must look at failures as opportunities for success and fail forward. Don’t let your failures keep you from trying again; you will miss success attempting to dodge failure” (Burnetta Thomas, Founder - Business Consulting). “In essence, there really aren't ‘mistakes,’ as it is all a part of the learning and growing process. If we never risk anything, we may avoid making mistakes, but what kind of life would we be living?" (Latara C Dragoo, Founder – Online Marketing Strategy and Consulting). “Change the lens through which you view failures. It is not the race.” (Teaira Turner, Founder – Strategic Coaching). The most liberating thing that an entrepreneur can do is to “accept [their] failures [and learn from their] mistakes, to implement the lessons which will catapult [them] forward in [their] passion” (Karen L Rudolf, Creator - Supports coaches and healers). One way to overcome a fear-inducing scenario, according to Lynda Sunshine West, Founder & CEO of Action Takers Publishing, is to ask yourself these 7 simple questions: Will it adversely affect my life one year from today? Will it adversely affect my life six months from today? Will it adversely affect my life one month from today? Will it adversely affect my life one week from today? Will it adversely affect my life one day from today? Will it adversely affect my life one hour from today? Will it adversely affect my life right now? This simple 7-step process helps you to break through your fears by putting things into perspective, allowing you to go from a position of anxiety to one of logic and courage. This ability to overcome fear and take action is hugely important for entrepreneurs because imperfect action is always better than inaction. You are either In Action or Inaction. In other words, “do nothing - get nothing. Do something, and something will happen. Action is always rewarded. Inaction rarely ever yields anything worthwhile” (Sherri R Leopold, CEO, Founder and TV presenter - Magazine and awards program). 2. Don’t Let Comparison Steal Your Joy Everyone’s journey is different in life, and the same applies in business. It’s crucial that all entrepreneurs remember this. There’s no benefit in comparing your business to another as it’ll only distort your view of all that you’ve already achieved and prevent you from enjoying the season that you’re currently in. Since every business is different, as is every entrepreneur, there is room for everyone’s unique gifts and talents. “Comparison is the thief of joy” (Whitnie Wiley, Chief Evolution Officer - Career Management and Transition). 3. Stop Chasing The Money A mistake that entrepreneurs appear to make in the early stages is to focus way too much on money. As much as money needs to be made to keep the business alive, it shouldn’t be the only thing that drives us to succeed. Every good thing in life requires having the right mindset. Business owners will find that once they shift their mind from trying to make money, to providing value and being of service, opportunities from unanticipated people and places will start to arise. From this, the money will flow” (Whitnie Wiley, Chief Evolution Officer - Career Management and Transition). 4. Choose Your Partners Wisely Going into business with the wrong people can easily put an entrepreneur in an adverse position - whether that’s financially, mentally, or emotionally. Before making such a decision, it’s important to vet potential partner(s) and ensure that they equally contribute to the business. Before joining forces with another individual, you must first value your intuition and acknowledge what you bring to the table. A “partnership is similar to a marriage. Misunderstandings and disagreements are inevitable and necessary. Set the right expectations from the beginning” (Niki Hall, Founder and Creator). A partnership means exactly that - all parties involved should work together to bring about success for the business. If there is an imbalance, that is a recipe for disaster - ultimately costing one side “more money, time and compromise” (Lorrel Elian, Life Mastery Mentor). 5. Business Is Built On Structure When starting out, many entrepreneurs naively believe that they don’t need structure to their day. However, the complete opposite is true. As they quickly come to realize, implementing some level of structure is truly beneficial and provides the freedom that they crave (Kim Kelley Thompson, Founder - Business Coaching). 6. Change Your Environment; Change Your Life No business can be successful (for long) if it does not accept and adapt to change. The rise of Netflix and fall of Blockbuster is a prime example of this. Had the latter adjusted its business model to the shift in consumers’ wants and needs, it would have survived and probably thrived until today. In business, the ability to pivot is key. It may not be easy, but the end result will surely make it worth the effort. “Covid is a prime example of having to make a shift in life and in business. Those who don’t make the shift will be left behind. Visualize the future and move your business toward it. Don’t be Blockbuster and go belly-up” (Lynda Sunshine West, Founder & CEO – Book Publisher). 7. You’re A Human Being, Not A Human Doing Just because you can physically do everything, doesn’t mean that you should. This is how entrepreneurs suffer from burnout and cause more harm than good to their businesses. When business owners take on every role within the company, they have in fact created a job for themselves rather than a scalable business. The magic ingredient for success is to outsource; it is key to know what you are good at and work according to those strengths. What you are not so good at should be immediately outsourced. This is the healthy way to operate a business and having such support creates faster growth (Stacey Magovern, CEO - Safety Services). 8. They Won’t Come Just Because You Build It Many entrepreneurs make the mistake of thinking that if they build it, they will come. In other words, once they build the business, customers will come flocking. Unfortunately, people don’t flock to things if they have no idea that it exists. So, “every day that you spend waiting for clients or customers to come to you is a day that you miss out on creating more impact, helping more people, and ultimately making more money. If you want to rise above the sea of other experts in your oversaturated niche, you will need to attract more attention to you and your brand by becoming more visible” (Nina Dafe, PR Specialist). This is where social media comes in handy, alongside podcast features and collaborations with others who are well-established in the industry you’re trying to break into. Paid for advertisements is also an option, although not mandatory – especially if you are (or know someone who is) skilled in the art of SEO. 9. Be Prepared To Sell Your Company To be approached for the purposes of purchasing your very own business speaks volumes, as it shows that you have built something of value with the potential to become even greater. However, the unfortunate outcome in most cases is that the founder is completely removed from the company, and it quickly becomes unrecognizable (Debbie Diane Peterson, Self-Published Author). Sometimes it is better to say ‘no’ – and hold onto your business. Continue growing it and wait/look for a buyer that truly aligns with your vision. Then, ask as many questions as possible so that when the acquisition has taken place you know where you stand within the company and for how long. 10. Follow Your Intuition In business, you’ll find that it’s necessary to occasionally block out all of the noise and follow your own path. Listening to others and acting on their words can negatively impact your business in more ways than one. Entrepreneurs should always be mindful of whom they get information (not everyone has experience relevant to your industry). Only listen to those who know what they’re talking about, and even then, you do not have to follow their advice. Business owners need to be more trusting of their gut instincts and make well-informed decisions that will reap the rewards (Debra Stangl, Founder – Private retreats). 11. Competition Isn’t Bad A sad truth is that entrepreneurs are often intimidated by their competitors and make the conscious decision to not work with them. It turns out that this is a pretty costly mistake. Offering your product or service as a backup option, should a customer’s first choice fall through for some reason, can generate so much business for you in the long run. All you have to do is be open-minded, network, and make yourself memorable. Changing and adapting to clients’ needs plays a major role in the success and scalability of any business (Stacey Magovern, CEO – Safety Services). 12. You Gotta Crawl Before You Can Walk And Walk Before You Can Run Being overexcited tends to make entrepreneurs take premature actions, costing unnecessary time and money. As such, a business plan is probably the best thing that an entrepreneur can initially invest in. Having this guide will help in preventing detrimental decisions being made and ensure that a business is progressing according to schedule. The saying “you have to spend money to make money” shouldn’t be misinterpreted as the need to invest too much, too soon. Without a clear vision of what an entrepreneur wants their business to be, it’s easy to continually spend without seeing any results. The take-away here is to spend time thoroughly researching the market that you’re trying to enter, and make sure that your business has the ability to generate cash flow. Being certain about the direction that you want your company to take will save so many costly mistakes and mean that only planned-for expenses are made (Lindsey Hagood, Founder - Fitness and nutrition app). 13. Seek A Mentor To Save Time, Energy, Effort And Money It’s natural to feel that we can figure out everything on our own. Although this is not impossible, it’s not the wisest move in business. Having a mentor or being part of a training program enables entrepreneurs to fast-track their learning and skip over many obstacles. “Having a mentor has not only saved me thousands of hours trying to figure out my next steps, but has helped me come up with ideas that I would never have come up with on my own. Mentors can shape us into what we want to be… and fast (Lynda Sunshine West, Founder & CEO – Book Publisher). It goes without saying that receiving guidance from someone who has already walked in your shoes (and made the mistakes for you) will save you a lot of time, money, uncertainty, and stress. - 9 Myths That Make You Give Your Power Away
Written by: Rose Salkova, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Are you looking for ways to increase your energy levels, improve your sleep, feel lighter and happier? It is possible and without any supplements. You don’t even have to do anything special. Below are but a few widely used expressions. We live by them without realizing their impact. We’ve accepted them as truths for various reasons. I call them myths and it is my intention to bring them up to the surface and to help you realize the damage they silently do to you. Just sit back and reflect: do I think or say any of these things? What else am I doing, thus sabotaging myself and then suffer from chronic fatigue, insomnia, feeling unfortunate, or like a victim? Myth 1: You can’t choose your family, you can only choose your friends Myth 2: Blaming parents These two myths often go together so let’s discuss them together as well. Take, for example me and my parents. The moment I learned that we chose our parents prior to incarnation – based on what we want to learn, to experience in this life, I was stupefied. I chose that? Why? The answer was simple: I chose my mom because she promised me freedom. My parents divorced; my mom left her abusive husband. She did the right thing, yet as a child, I blamed her for breaking up the family. Then later, I was blaming dad for being a bad husband and a poor father. Why didn’t he stop? It is obvious isn’t it: you do not lift your hand on your wife or child? But… how could he know differently? He grew up knowing that he was not loved by his dad, in fact, his dad wanted to sell him at some point. If he was not hit, he was definitely yelled at. This happened about 80 years ago. Now now, let’s blame the grandfather since he started it all. However, my grandfather was left on his own on the street as a toddler because then orphans or otherwise undesired children were just another throat to feed! This was over 110 years ago. Oufff. As parents, we provide the way we know. What do we know? Well, they do not teach the latest parenting methods at school, do they? So, we read books, watch podcasts, consult friends or specialists. And we will put this information in perspective with our upbringing, because most of all, we know best what we’ve experienced ourselves. So, on average, each generation’s parenting style is at least 60 years old: we are either repeating or correcting our childhood = the parenting style of our parents, which in turn is the parenting style of their parents. How we respond to all this another thing. This is our free will. One hundred years ago, did people know about free will? Did they even have time to think or question life? Did they know how to stand up and say that something was wrong when everybody around was doing it? DO WE TODAY? So have no doubt, our parents, each and every one of them delivered their promises. The question is how this promise was delivered - the human touch. My mom promised me freedom and she gave it to me: I was 15 when I realized how great a freedom I had. While my friends were controlled closely, all I had to do was ask. That was her way. But there are countless ways of keeping a promise. And it can go to extremes. Let’s say that I also wanted to experience compassion. I could: Live in a loving environment and learn to be compassionate to others because it is nice, or Live in a harsh environment, suffer and experience compassion through the lack of it. “What do you want. You can’t choose your family; you can only choose your friends. It’s their fault, they should know better – they are the parents, they are adults. They should know how to raise a child.” Thinking or talking like this is not going to change anything. It will only keep you stuck in a victim mode, takeover your wellbeing, creep into the sleepless nights and by doing so take your power, your strength away. Today, can you extend understanding and compassion to the parents and grandparents because they didn’t get any in the first place? If someone is on the ground, what will you do? Come closer and kick them, since they are already on the ground or extend a hand and help them to get up? So instead of being a victim of circumstances or blaming, I offer to you to: Stop judging your parents and stand by your birth choice, and Recognize that your parents really did their best, which was the best that they knew. Even if they were completely incompetent, it was their best. Let’s face it: none of us is perfect; and anyway, life is not a courtroom. Life is a school. And in life, no one gives medals for suffering. Myth 3: The word “Don’t” “I don’t want to be sad; I don’t want to be sick; I don’t need my boss yelling at me.” The subconscious, small children and animals do not understand the word “don’t.” It has no meaning. What they hear is: I … want to be sad, I … want to be sick, I … need people yelling at me. Do you see what I see? We know that we attract and create what we think, what we say - whether out loud or to ourselves. For that reason, change your words and thoughts to: I want to be, I am happy. I want to be healthy. I feel great and I improve every day… Observe the difference this makes in your life. Myth 4: Negative self-talk is cute “Negative self-talk is cute, it keeps me humble, my mom used to do it. My colleagues, my friends are doing it.” No. It is not cute. It doesn’t make you humble, it is plain and simple a bully standing next to you 24/7! And this bully knows exactly which buttons to push. If someone did it to you at work, you would file for harassment. Who told you that you are allowed to do this to yourself? So, stop it now. If you are not able to stop on your own, get help. And then, when you are ready, bring it to even a higher level: praise yourself for a job well done – no matter how small, pat yourself on the shoulder for a smart choice, or smile to yourself in the mirror. And watch your life explode! Myth 5: It is my obligation “It is my obligation to take care of my children.” Everything we do, say or think comes with an energetic charge. Obligation is a sacrifice and as such it takes more energy from us than a task actually requires. It is unnecessary, it is stress and an accumulation of negative energy inside of you. Surprise: you don’t owe anything to anyone. You give because you want. Therefore, say instead: “I take care of my children because I love them, because I want.” As a result, feel a relief and an inflow of positive energy. Simply because your words, your actions are coming out of a different place the negative energy is released, and positive energy pours in to support you. Myth 6: Only I… This is an example of how our subconsciousness is literal: “Only I can take care of my children, husband, ailing parents.” Guess what? They will make sure that you do not get rest, because they want to make you happy: only you can take care of them, right? So, they will provide; they will ask only for you, they will be difficult when others are replacing you. How about saying instead: I take care of my parents and I gladly accept and appreciate any help I can get in supporting me with my undertaking? How does that sound? How does that feel? Imagine how a life like that would be. Please, give yourself the permission to accept help, have rest, even to have fun. You deserve it. Myth 7: The responsibility of a parent “My mother was supposed to provide, my father wasn’t there, he abandoned me, “ This is a tough one. On the surface – yes. Behind curtains? We don’t know unless we look there. So, dare and look: well, she just really was a bad mother, she made a wrong choice, this was her opportunity to learn and she failed. Or she was absent because you wanted to grow up independently. Or she had to go on her journey and it was another woman that was supposed to take her place. I mentioned in the beginning how orphans used to be a burden… I find it rather interesting how today we see countless blended families. Therefore, unless you look behind the curtains and know their story, stop judging and accept what was because you do not have all the information. You only have one side of the story. I know that if you do look and do find their story, you will not judge, you will understand. For some is hard to hear it, but your mother or father don’t owe you anything. On the other hand, you don’t owe them anything either. This doesn’t mean that we can all run around and do anything we feel like doing. On the contrary, this means to step up, show respect, care and compassion. You have your journey, and they have theirs. No matter what their reason, that belongs to them. So let it go, free yourself from this assumption. Let them be free too. Myth 8: Expectations between parents and children In all families, perhaps especially in dysfunctional families, parents are expecting a thank you, while children are expecting a sorry. Neither one is getting it. Persistence is a virtue but being stubborn is not. I propose to you to be the one that makes the first step and says: “I am sorry, I was not a better parent. I am sorry I hurt you, I let you down.” Or: “Thank you for giving me life. Thank you for teaching me your way, it was a hard way, but still, thank you.” Say these simple words. You do not have to say it in person. Sit, relax and breathe deeply for a short while. When you are ready, imagine that they are sitting next to you and say it in your mind, or aloud. Then just breathe again for a while. These simple words will free you from the past, from being a victim and tomorrow the sun will start shining brighter. Myth 9: It is impossible to let go “This was my marriage, my childhood, I was robbed, I was wronged – I am a victim here. I cannot let go of this. If I do, I approve what happened or it’s like it never happened at all. This is not justice. Don’t I matter?!” I hear you; I truly do. However, this is what happens if you do not let go: you are stuck in this nightmare. No justice. No joy. Only a self-inflicted suffering, which is some of the worst suffering there is. Please realize that violence has many faces. May yours not be one of them! On the other hand, letting go is justice-for-you. Not for them. Learn to let go – this will allow for inner peace to settle in. Conclusion These thoughts, as justified as they all may be or feel, are only taking your power away. In fact, you, yourself are giving your power away. No one takes it from you. These are myths that we have heard often enough to accept them as the truths. The changes that I propose to you here are some small, some big, but they are all possible. They do not require you to do neither more nor less. They ask you to do and think differently. By simply incorporating them in your day, you will sleep better, feel better, get stronger and happier. Plus, they will open you up to even more progress. I believe that it is important, so I am going to repeat: We create what is inside us, not what we think is inside us. Our behaviour, our thoughts, as well as our invisible energies affect not only us. The traumas that we inherit from our parents – if not resolved, we live their lives. Then, we affect those that come after us, our most beloved. We are passing on our traumas and dramas down the line to our children and grandchildren. Then they live our lives or the lives of their grandparents, instead of their own. Take responsibility and ownership of your energy. It’s not only “Are you mad? Pull yourself together and act professionally!” The responsibility goes much deeper. And its ownership propels straight up to joy. So, claim your power, stop giving it away! - Is ADHD A Coping Tool?
Written by: Dr. Don Wood, PhD, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is defined as a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. Individuals with ADHD may experience symptoms such as impulsivity, hyperactivity, and inattention, which can make it challenging to deal with daily life. As a result, many people with ADHD develop their unique coping mechanisms to manage their symptoms. Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation and myths surrounding ADHD and coping mechanisms, making it challenging to separate fact from fiction. However, what if ADHD is a copying mechanism developed during stressful situations experienced in childhood. In this article, we will explore the link between ADHD and coping mechanisms, debunk some common myths, and provide practical advice for anyone struggling with ADHD. Common misconceptions about ADHD and coping mechanisms One of the most common misconceptions about ADHD is that people with this condition cannot cope without medication. While medication can be an essential part of treatment for some people, it is not the only way to handle ADHD symptoms. Many individuals with ADHD develop unique coping mechanisms to manage their symptoms, such as exercise, mindfulness, and self-care. Another common misconception is that people with ADHD are lazy or unmotivated. This stigma stems from the assumption that individuals with ADHD can control their symptoms if they just try harder. However, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects the brain's ability to regulate attention and behavior. Individuals with ADHD are not lazy or unmotivated; they simply require different strategies to manage their symptoms effectively. Now, let’s examine the common description for ADHD. It’s described as a neurodevelopmental disorder, the key word being developmental. During the most formative brain development years between birth and seven years of age, if a child is experiencing significant amounts of stress, how can they handle it? They can’t. They can’t fight it (FIGHT response), and they can’t escape (FLIGHT response). They are literally trapped in this stressful environment. Can you see how shutting down, tuning out, stop focusing or paying attention would be an excellent coping mechanism? Brilliant strategy really! The brain has created a work around that is very effective. Unfortunately, there are future consequences. As they get to school age and need to focus on a teacher, that task may be impossible because they have trained their brain to do the opposite. Now they get labeled with ADHD when maybe all they need is to retrain the brain to focus. Another issue arises when they still remain in a stressful environment. Changing a pattern like that will be a challenge and take a lot of patience and understanding. Or we can take the fast approach and put the child on meds designed to make them focus. Guess what most people end up doing? Coping mechanisms and ADHD: What the research says Research has shown that individuals with ADHD are more likely to use negative coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse, than those without ADHD. Negative coping mechanisms provide temporary relief from symptoms but can lead to long-term problems such as addiction and mental health issues. Positive coping mechanisms, on the other hand, can help individuals with ADHD manage their symptoms effectively. Studies have found that mindfulness, exercise, and cognitive-behavioral therapy are effective coping mechanisms for ADHD. By practicing these techniques regularly, individuals with ADHD can improve their attention and reduce impulsivity. Neurofeedback can also retrain the brain and is an excellent resource to help reduce or eliminate the symptoms. Any time you hear the words symptoms, think of a solution. Look for the root cause of the symptoms and the solution is staring you in the face. ADHD is a stress response and coping mechanism to the situation. Reduce or remove stress from an environment and you get to the core issue. Then it’s a matter of retraining the brain to refocus. Doesn’t that make sense? Types of coping mechanisms for ADHD There are two main types of coping mechanisms for ADHD: positive and negative. Positive coping mechanisms help individuals with ADHD manage their symptoms effectively, while negative coping mechanisms provide temporary relief but can lead to long-term problems. Negative coping mechanisms for ADHD include substance abuse, procrastination, and avoidance. Substance abuse provides temporary relief from symptoms but can lead to addiction and mental health issues. Procrastination and avoidance can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and depression. The importance of seeking professional help While coping mechanisms can be helpful for managing ADHD symptoms, it is essential to seek professional help if symptoms are interfering with daily life. A healthcare professional, such as a psychiatrist psychologist or mental health professional, can provide a comprehensive assessment and develop a personalized treatment plan. It is also essential to seek professional help if negative coping mechanisms, such as substance abuse, are being used to manage ADHD symptoms. A healthcare professional can provide resources and support to help individuals overcome addiction and develop positive coping mechanisms. Coping with ADHD: Tips for parents and caregivers. Parenting a child with ADHD can be challenging but developing positive coping mechanisms can help both the child and the caregiver. One effective coping mechanism is to establish a routine and structure in daily life. This can help reduce stress and increase predictability, which can be helpful for individuals with ADHD. Another effective coping mechanism is to provide positive reinforcement for desired behaviors. Focus on effort as opposed to results. This can help increase motivation and self-esteem. This can be particularly beneficial for children with ADHD who may struggle with impulsivity and low self-esteem. Coping with ADHD: Tips for adults with ADHD Managing ADHD as an adult can be challenging but developing positive coping mechanisms can help adults with ADHD manage their symptoms effectively. One effective coping mechanism is to establish a routine and structure in daily life. This can help reduce stress and increase predictability, which can be helpful for adults with ADHD. Another effective coping mechanism is to practice mindfulness regularly. Mindfulness can help improve attention and reduce impulsivity by teaching individuals with ADHD to focus on the present moment. Additionally, cognitive-behavioral therapy can help individuals with ADHD learn new skills to manage their symptoms effectively. Conclusion: Breaking the stigma and seeking support In conclusion, ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects millions of people worldwide. While coping mechanisms can be helpful for managing symptoms, it is essential to seek professional help if symptoms are interfering with daily life. By breaking the stigma surrounding ADHD and seeking support, individuals with ADHD can develop positive coping mechanisms and lead fulfilling lives. By teaching AI strategy and technology to learners around the globe, Joe Papa´s unwavering drive, infectious enthusiasm, and steadfast belief in AI's potential make him the visionary force behind TruVersity´s success. Why is AI the biggest opportunity and threat small businesses have ever seen? From the research and development side, I’ve seen artificial intelligence research grow increasingly over the past two decades. However, getting new AI technology and breakthroughs into the world has had its challenges – until now. The release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT allowed AI to go mainstream within weeks. Microsoft’s partial purchase of OpenAI and its integration of GPT into Bing and Office 365 products are changing how we do everything. Microsoft’s move has also put pressure on top AI companies like Google and Meta to release the AI technology they’ve been sitting on. Media coverage has sparked billions of investment dollars into AI startups, causing an explosion of new AI applications. The business owners, executives, and employees that understand AI and how to use it first will gain a significant competitive advantage over those that don’t. How can small businesses start using Artificial Intelligence? Find a forward thinker in your organization and appoint them as the Chief AI Officer or some other cool title. (If you’re a solopreneur, then that’s you.) Ask them to develop an AI strategy for the next 3 to 12 months and form an AI task force of employees who want to explore AI possibilities. Hire an AI consultant that can guide you to develop a strategy, plan an initiative, provide resources, and help you evaluate new AI tools and applications. Let all your employees know they will not be replaced by AI, but they may be replaced by someone who knows how to use AI. Get everyone on board to explore new tools and possibilities. Give them the AI training they need to help them level up their skills and show them your commitment to their success. Who are your clients and how do you help them? At TruVersity, our clients are typically seven and eight-figure businesses that are looking to optimize their processes, stay ahead of the competition, and accelerate growth through the power of AI. Our clients vary in size from coffee shop owners to larger healthcare providers. They come from a wide range of industries, including service companies, food services, retail chains, real estate, and financial organizations. We help our clients in a variety of ways. First and foremost, we offer world-class training in AI, Machine Learning, and its application to business, allowing our clients to upskill their teams and stay ahead of the curve regarding the latest technologies. We also provide expert consulting services, where we work closely with our clients to understand their unique business needs and develop custom AI solutions that meet those needs. In addition to training and consulting, we offer software solutions that are designed to help businesses optimize their processes and drive growth. - Nokia Plans To Launch 4G Internet On The Moon
Written by: Katie Scott, business reporter Brainz Magazine Finish Telecoms giant, Nokia, has unveiled plans to launch 4G internet connectivity on the moon this year. Luis Maestro Ruiz De Temino, Nokia’s principal engineer, has told journalists at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona that the launch is part of Nasa’s Artemis 1 mission. This mission hopes to put humans on the Moon for the first time since 1972. CNBC reports that the network is hoped will “...enhance lunar discoveries — and eventually pave the path for human presence on the satellite planet.” The launch is planned for the coming months and will use a SpaceX rocket. Once on the Moon, the network will be powered by a base station, which is stored in a Nova-C lunar lander itself designed by US firm Intuitive Machines, as well as by an accompanying solar-powered rover. The rover and lander are hoped will be able to communicate using an LTE connection. In a statement published before the event, Nokia said that its lunar network will “provide critical communication capabilities for many different data transmission applications, including vital command and control functions, remote control of lunar rovers, real-time navigation and streaming of high definition video.”
- Jack Daniels Bites Back At Makers Of Whiskey-Themed Dog Toy
Written by: Katie Scott, business reporter Brainz Magazine The US Supreme Court is the scene of a trademark dispute between the veteran drinks maker and a toy firm over the Jack Daniel’s signature whiskey bottle. The "Bad Spaniels Silly Squeaker" toy was created by Arizona-based VIP Products and has been sold since 2014. The line also includes products that mimic beer bottles; wine and liquor bottles. Sky News reports: “Its most noticeable parody yet is its "Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey" toy, which includes the wording: "The Old No. 2 on Your Tennessee Carpet." While the Jack Daniel's bottles have the words: "Old No. 7 brand" and "Tennessee Sour Mash Whiskey”. The original bottle notes it is 40 percent alcohol by volume and the parody features a dog's face and says it is "43 percent Poo by Vol." and "100 percent Smelly”." Jack Daniels is causing a stink; and argues that the toy does not qualify as a parody. Justice Elena Kagan seemed to agree, stating in court: "Maybe I just have no sense of humour. But what's the parody?" She added that the toy seemed to her to be an "ordinary commercial product" and that it was trading on the famous silhouette of the Jack Daniel’s signature bottle. The company’s lawyer, Lisa Blatt, wrote in a filing that sits with the high court: "Jack Daniel's loves dogs and appreciates a good joke as much as anyone. But Jack Daniel's likes its customers even more and doesn't want them confused or associating its fine whiskey with dog poop." The case is expected to reach a verdict in late June.
