Have you ever felt like you’re playing a role, acting out a script that someone else wrote? Like you're not truly you, but a version of yourself that's designed to please, to fit in, or to survive? Well, guess what? You're not alone. Most of us have that sense from time to time. Or all the time!

A woman holds a large face mask while a man in a suit drives its top like a vehicle, set against a teal background with silhouettes.

And you are correct! You’re not that role, not that script, you’re not your personality. So, who are you, really? That is what this article is about! You, unplugging from one of the most subversive, destructive, and far-reaching cults in the world, the oh so familiar and normalized cult of personality!

Are you ready?

We live in this hyper-connected, globalized world where personality is king. We're constantly bombarded with images and stories of celebrities, influencers, politicians, and entrepreneurs who seem to have it all figured out.

Meet the Global Cult of Personality, amplified by our digital world! Whether it's the disruptive visionary image of Elon Musk, the polarizing persona of Donald Trump, or the carefully constructed brand of the Kardashians, big personalities keep captivating our attention and shape our perceptions.

Here is the thing: Since we spend so much time and energy thinking about them, it reinforces the presumption that personalities are vital, important, and real.

What if they are neither of those things? Not vital. Not important. And not real.

That might sound a little out there, but stick with me? See, most of us are running on autopilot, driven by personalities we've developed over our lifetime, and to unplug, we have to bypass the mind!

Where do personalities come from?

Personalities are like programs created by our minds to handle the world. But those programs actually create a filter between us and other people, and they only allow us to see the world through a distorted lens, limited by whatever story our personalities tell.

I remember when I was a kid. I had no idea how anger worked, but it was one thing my dad was really good at: getting angry. So, to fit in, I bought my dad's "anger personality" and made it mine. So anytime I got angry, I became my dad (Oh, the joy!) Nope, those were not my best moments!

The thing is, it never felt like me! It was like I had a dad-Hulk inside that would come out and yell at the world for no good reason. It's not that my dad was wrong, but I bought something that wasn't really me.

What triggers personalities?

Personalities are like masks we wear, and they get triggered in certain situations. It's that "dad-Hulk" coming out, or a certain "victim" behavior, or the "perfect achiever" pushing down any kind of emotion.

You think you're choosing how to respond, but it's really just a reaction according to the program. This gives us the illusion of choice but never the freedom to actually use the greatest gift we’ve ever been given: True choice.

Think about it: Do you ever find yourself saying or doing things you later regret? Reacting in ways that don't feel authentic? That's your personality taking over. It is running the show.

What is ‘being’?

So, if we're not our personalities, then what are we?

That’s where the concept of "being" comes in. Being is the essence of you. It's the core of who you are beyond all the stories, the masks, and the coping mechanisms. It's your unique energetic signature, your innate awareness, your limitless potential. It's who you are when you're not trying to be anyone or anything, in total vulnerability.

It is when your mind is no longer calling the shots!

Think of it as the you that is beyond anything you have decided about your life. The raw and real version of you that you might have abandoned over time. It's time to start looking in that direction again, going from reaction to action!

Unplugging: A choice, a question

What if there were a way to break free from these programs? What if you could unplug from your personalities and start choosing who you truly want to be?

  1. The first step is awareness. Start noticing when your personalities are taking over. If there is more of a charge, a franticness, or a contraction? Ba-boom! That may very well be your personalities kicking in.

  2. Then, instead of going down that path, choose to ask a question: “Is this personality or my being?”

  3. And if you get “personality,” ask: “If I were being me right now, what would I choose in this moment?”

Yes, it can be that simple!

Asking a question breaks the automatic settings! It allows you to be, choose, and create something that is congruent with who you are, not what your personality programs tell you is right.

No more buttons

When you're running on personality, you have so many buttons to push. People know how to trigger you, how to get a reaction. But when you're unplugged, those buttons start to disappear. You become undefinable, unpredictable, and maybe even a little terrifying to the people around you.

This is because you're no longer showing up as they expect you to. You're not playing the role they're used to. And that can be very uncomfortable to them, and even more so, to their personalities. You no longer fit into their programs!

Terrifying people (and why it's a good thing)

Here's a secret: if you’re not terrifying anyone, you’re probably not being yourself. People are used to you showing up a certain way, and when you shift that, it creates a bit of chaos. Good chaos!

What if you let them be terrified? What if you change your job from running the appropriate programs to becoming the captain of your ship and being you?

Heart & brain coherence

So, my friend, I invite you to start exploring what is possible when you begin to unplug. It all starts with that question: Personality or being? anytime something triggers you. What do you become aware of? What other choices do you have available?

And if you’re ready to go even further, consider having a session of something called Access Bars®! Imagine there are 32 points on your head which, when gently touched, effortlessly and easily release anything that doesn't allow you to receive and all the stuff that keeps your personality in place!

Access Bars® is a gentle, hands-on modality that was created by Gary Douglas in the early 1990s.

What many people don't know is that having your Bars run increases your heart and brain coherence. In my experience, that coherence is one of the fastest ways of getting out of your mind, out of your personality, and into your being.

Beyond personality: You

Having personalities is not wrong! They were a great way to handle life until now. But if you're ready to start creating the life you truly desire, maybe it's time to unplug and explore who you are without those programs running?

Just know, it does take tenacity to get there, and it isn’t always easy. You have to be willing to be undefined, in the question, not sure about who you are. And yes, you will be judged. Sometimes even by the people who love you the most, but the rewards are immeasurable! When you unplug from your personalities, you gain access to your own energetic capacities. You can perceive and receive everything around you, without being triggered. And you are finally able to interact with people and the world filter-free, allowing for a way more intimate life!

It is exciting news! You are not who you think you are. You are not your personality or your story. You are something way bigger, way more malleable, and way more beautifully terrifying! J
