For example, at an inner-city Phoenix school, an educational psychologist used self-regulation tools with learning-disabled students, leading to significant improvements in their ability to manage stress, access previously learned information, and perform better academically. These students developed better self-regulation skills, which translated into improved academic performance and increased confidence.

 

Similarly, in a Houston high school, students preparing for the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (TAAS) test practiced self-regulation techniques while studying. The results were impressive: 100% of the seniors who used these techniques passed the test, compared to 71% in a control group that received standard test preparation alone. These outcomes demonstrate the profound impact that self-regulation can have.
