As February comes to a close and the “formal” celebration of Black History Month wraps up, one thing remains unchanged: the journey of being a Black woman does not come with an expiration date. There is no “Thanks for celebrating, see you next year!” moment. This journey is a lifetime membership, rooted in refinement, self-improvement, and the pursuit of impact.

Woman in red dress and hat smiling, holds a mug labeled "Audaci TEA." Wooden backdrop and green sofa. Warm, cheerful atmosphere.

Every day, I strive to show up fully, not just for myself but for those around me. From boardrooms to community spaces, from my living room to the (very opinionated) group chats with my best friends, I remain committed to growth, authenticity, and shaking the table whenever necessary.

The path to refinement and self-improvement

Navigating the world as a Black woman is a masterclass in resilience. Some days, it feels like I deserve a PhD in grace under pressure. Where is my honorary degree? Other days, I just need a nap. But through it all, refinement has been my North Star.

Refinement is not just about leveling up. It is about fine-tuning, elevating, and stepping boldly into spaces where my presence matters. It is knowing that I belong in every room I enter and, when necessary, building my own room and inviting others in.

With refinement as my personal theme for 2025, I have realized it is not just about surface-level glow-ups, though I do love a fresh twist-out. It is about showing up with excellence, resilience, and purpose. It is setting high standards for myself, not for perfection but for progress.

This commitment has led me to pursue higher education and professional development and to embrace the awkward, sometimes uncomfortable process of growth. It has pushed me into leadership, advocacy, and creating spaces where authenticity and excellence thrive.

From parenting to coaching (and accepting that I am no longer cool)

As my kids grow, my role as a mother is shifting. I am no longer the “cool mom” (was I ever?) but the “wisdom dispenser” who reminds them to drink water and use their inside voices.

Gone are the days of packing lunches and bedtime stories. Now, I am mentoring, guiding, and trying (emphasis on trying) to give advice without sounding like an after-school special. Parenting teens and young adults is like coaching a team where the players think they know more than the coach.

But here is the real kicker: this shift in my role is not just about my kids. It has expanded into how I show up for my community. Whether it is through mentorship, coaching, or just being a listening ear, I have realized that guiding others, especially young Black women, is part of my calling.

It is about helping them own their voices, walk boldly in their purpose, and dismantle every self-doubt that tells them they are not enough. It is about making sure they see their worth before the world tries to convince them otherwise.

Launching new ventures: the power of podcasts

I am beyond excited (and slightly terrified) to announce that I am launching not one but two podcasts. Because apparently, I enjoy being busy and talking, a winning combination!

Podcast 1: Bes-T.E.A: Spillin tea from time

Two women laughing, one holding a pink phone, in a cozy room with wooden paneling and plants. Warm, joyful atmosphere.

Picture this: deep conversations, loud laughter, and debates over who found the funniest meme. This podcast with my best friend is a celebration of sisterhood, unfiltered realness, and those moments when we remind each other to take deep breaths and drink more tea.

Podcast 2: Living with audaci-T.E.A.

Woman in red dress and hat, speaking into a microphone on a green sofa. "AudaciTEA" mug on table. Wooden wall background, pensive mood.

This is my personal space to dive deep into all the things that light my soul on fire. From self-improvement and mental well-being to entrepreneurship and leadership, this podcast is about growth, power, and walking boldly in your purpose. Think of it as a pep talk, a reality check, and a warm hug all rolled into one.

Continuing the legacy

Being a Black woman is both a journey and a statement. It is an unapologetic commitment to showing up, speaking out, and lifting others as we climb. It is about making sure that every step forward is a step toward something bigger than ourselves.

Through mentorship, coaching, and these new ventures, I am committed to helping others recognize their power, step into their greatness, and leave their own legacy of impact. Because at the end of the day, this work is not just about me. It is about all of us.

While I have not reached my pinnacle yet, trust that the roots of my banyan tree are planted deep, and the fruit of my labor is only beginning to bloom.

So let us keep growing, keep refining, and keep making waves, not just in February but every single day.

Because Black excellence is not seasonal. It is eternal.
