Your business success is directly tied to your confidence levels. Many entrepreneurs struggle to grow their businesses simply because, subconsciously, they don’t believe they can, even though they work hard every single day. They’ve taken plenty of action to implement their business growth strategies and boost results, but something isn't clicking. Despite all the effort, they just can't seem to make their confidence strategies work for business growth.

Results affect your confidence

When you can’t get results for a long time, you start looking for reasons why. This is when you begin to believe in industry-limited beliefs floating around like:

  • "It's hard to beat the competition; I am not the cheapest."

  • "It's too hard; I am not the lucky one."

  • "People can't afford it anymore," etc.

Have you ever been guilty of any of those thoughts? There was a time in my life when I certainly was. When you don’t get results after working hard, it’s natural to have thoughts like these. Your confidence is down. And when your confidence is down, you start taking action out of desperation, worry, anxiety, and other lower emotions.

Some people spend years living in that state without even realizing it. And today’s world of marketing has a lot of messages that tackle your deepest fears like this. That doesn’t help your confidence, either.

Have you tried to build your confidence from the wrong state of mind and failed before? I was one of those people a few times in my life, for sure. Because I really needed things to happen, I really needed results, so I pushed hard. And guess what? I got the opposite results. I tried working even harder but got even more stuck. But as soon as I relaxed and forgot about the problem, I’d get an AHA moment about what to do next. Sometimes, the solution just comes.

Just relax

After one of my clients complained about how something wasn’t working in their business despite trying to fix it many times, I asked him when was the last time he had relaxed. He looked at me and said, “Well, I had a pint with my mate on Thursday night.” I replied, “Yeah, that’s not what I mean”. Even though in Ireland that’s how a lot of people relax.

I told him to go play golf the next morning. He started resisting, but since it was his business coach telling him to do so (and because my client loved playing golf), he gave in. A day later, I got a phone call telling me he had found a solution to his ongoing problem during his golf morning.

You probably have plenty of examples from your own life when you forgot about a problem or weren’t focusing on it, and the problem either solved itself or the solution came out of the blue. Sometimes, all you need to do is switch tasks.

Confidence foundations

So how is this connected to your confidence? Well, it’s simple. When you are relaxed, you feel whole and complete; you’re not lacking or needing anything. You’re not worried about things working out. And that is the state to start taking action. It’s also the state where you should start building your confidence. It’s important to have the right foundation or blueprint for your confidence. You wouldn’t start building a house on a shaky foundation, so why would you try to build your confidence on a false foundation?

When we’re relaxed, we generally like ourselves. So the argument here could be, "Are we all born naturally confident, and just some of us are better at embodying that state all or most of the time?"

The relaxed state is where all your business actions should come from. It’s also the state where you don’t care about the outcome. In the manifestation world, this is called the "detachment state," which practically manifests anything for you because you stop transmitting "needy" energy.

Shifting your focus

So, if you’re struggling with something in your business, try shifting your focus. Go do something you love, and only then start taking action in your business. Or simply quiet your mind, go inward, and eliminate distractions. Usually, you’ll feel what’s the right thing to do. And when you get that AHA moment and solve that problem almost effortlessly, it’s time to celebrate it and remember how amazing you are. Celebrating your small wins will bring you closer to your big success. When we think like we’re winning, we feel good and confident about reaching our next goal. Once we hit one small win, it’s easy to hit another, and that often puts us into a state of flow. Whatever you’re working on right now, I know you’re an expert. You have so much experience, and if you’re running a business, you can solve your clients' problems with ease.

Flow state makes us naturally confident?

Remember, you don’t need to prove yourself to anyone. We only feel like we need to prove ourselves when we’re acting out of desperation, fear, or anxiety. In that state, we feel we need the outside world to validate us, to tell us we’re good enough. We’re searching for approval. But if we remind ourselves of past successes, we’ll remember how amazing we are and that we don’t need anyone’s approval. When we’re in a flow state, we’re fully immersed in the task at hand, effortlessly moving forward without self-doubt or second-guessing, a mindset that naturally boosts confidence and fuels productivity. When we take action from a place of empowerment, we feel invincible; obstacles don’t exist, or we’re seeing them from a different angle. When we’re stressed, our problems seem massive.

Confidence building in business isn’t a one-time effort, it’s a continuous cycle. When you feel confident, you’re more likely to achieve the results you want, and this fuels even greater growth. On the flip side, acting out of desperation, fear, or anxiety can make you feel stuck, keeping you from reaching your true potential. The good news? You can shift this by adjusting your focus: take a break, relax, and let yourself find clarity before jumping into action. By building confidence from a place of calm and empowerment, you’re setting up a strong foundation for long-term business success, allowing you to hit your goals without unnecessary stress. Remember, taking inspired action when you’re confident is the key to moving forward, no desperation is needed.
