Building Confidence – 1 Rep at a Time

Confidence isn’t something you flip on like a switch. It’s something you build, practice, and reinforce over time. Confidence is also built on evidence. Every action you take is proof you’re collecting through preparation, practice, self-talk, and daily choices.

Think of it like strengthening a muscle at the gym. One workout won’t make you strong, but consistent effort will. Each repetition may feel small, yet every single rep matters and adds up, making what once felt heavy and impossible become easier, achievable, and rewarding.


However, the quality of what you put in determines the quality of what you can draw on when it matters most.


You can’t withdraw a thousand dollars of confidence if you’ve only invested a dollar’s worth of effort. But every rep, every risk, every small win increases your reserves. Each time you face something hard, you make it just a little easier for your future self, sometimes only 1% easier, but it is still forward progress.


So, how do you build unshakable confidence? Here are the ingredients that have helped me.


The ingredients of confidence


  1. Consistency wins. Show up, stack effort, put in the reps, repeat.

  2. Start small. Tiny steps build unstoppable confidence.

  3. Reps = readiness. Stretch 1%. Growth lives just outside your comfort zone.

  4. Celebrate progress. Track wins big or small. It all fuels belief.

  5. Speak strength. Your words create your world.


Challenges to take with you


  • Flip the script. When fear says, “What if I fail?” answer with, “What if I succeed?”

  • Choose and move. Growth demands risk and action. Staying in the zone of “what if” keeps you stuck.

  • Trade your tasks (to-do list) for triumphs (a done list). Every win counts, and every reminder of progress is evidence of confidence to deposit and use when you need it most.


Remember: Confidence is contagious


Words create your reality, so be mindful of what you put into the world, whether it's a belief or a doubt, because it will return to shape you. Celebrate your progress, acknowledge your effort, and trust in the competence you’re building.
