Are you ready to become the master of your mindset? In today's society, there are a plethora of distractions to keep you away from your goals. Whether you're trying to elevate your business as an entrepreneur or just get a grip on your life, these quotes that we are about to break down will help you stay the course. In this article, we'll explore five Stoic quotes that will explain why it’s imperative to keep both hands on the steering wheel. Let’s dive into today’s conversation.

A minimalist graphic features a marble statue head beneath the bold quote "You Deserve Better," with a smaller quote by Seneca about courage and difficulty.

1. “True Happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence on the future.” - Seneca

One of the master keys to unlocking the door to your fullest potential is by being present in the moment. By being present in the moment, you are giving yourself permission to take inventory of your priorities and give yourself a clear direction on how to focus on what you can control and surrender to what you can’t control. When we learn to be mindful and not have our minds full, we are fully engaged in the moment by commanding our thoughts in a way that will lead to rewiring our subconscious mind. By rewiring our thoughts to those that are more beneficial, we are training our minds to see the possibilities of what could happen if we stay the course. This quote dissolves our anxieties of future events by demanding that we take action towards the outcome we want versus over-thinking ourselves into procrastination.

Define your vision of happiness

By defining your version of happiness, you are setting the blueprint to take action towards. Whether it's growing into the person you need to be or fulfilling your life’s mission, whether you succeed in either depends on the steps you take to ensure you reach your desired level of success.

Tips to stay mindful

When it comes to being mindful, there are several ways one can go about achieving peace in this moment: expressing gratitude, minimizing our complaints, improving our focus, changing our internal dialogue, and changing our perspectives. Acquiring these attributes takes time, but it will create fertile mental soil for your seeds to grow.

  • Expressing gratitude: “Gratitude is the Attitude that determines your Altitude.” Learning to be grateful for the highs and lows instills a greater appreciation for the moment and is an easy way to stop yourself from complaining.

  • Minimizing complaints: It’s easy to get swept away by thinking our life should be different, but once we accept that we are where we need to be, it gives us time to focus on taking advantage of the day.

  • Improving our focus: By focusing too much on the future, we are providing the perfect breeding ground for anxiety. When we allow our happiness to be dictated by certain events or put the power of our happiness in the hands of other people, we are taking away from the current moment. Where focus goes, energy flows..

  • Changing internal dialog: The power of the tongue is real. We can either speak life into our situation or we can bask in the ambiance of self-sabotage. One option will lead us to our goals, while the other will steal every ounce of joy and we will only see limitations.

  • Changing our perspective: As Dr. Dwayne Dyer put it, “when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” A simple tweak of your perspective will take you further than your mind can fathom.

By learning to stay mindful, you are giving yourself permission to get in alignment with the highest version of yourself. Once you get in alignment, your magnetic powers increase and you are able to attract the life you want.

2. “You cannot change what happens to you. You can change the meaning you give to what happens.” - Darius Forux

Life has a pretty messed-up way of getting our attention. Whether it’s an unexpected breakup or finding out your position was cut on your job, if we change our lens of perspective, we can see that the adversities we are faced with are there by design. It’s only through grace that you will be able to see the way.

What is grace?

Grace is seeing with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness. When we look at what it means to show grace, in this context, it means to give yourself permission to forgive yourself. It means to love yourself and others unconditionally, even after mistakes have been made. Within these mistakes, there’s an opportunity for a lesson learned through forgiveness.

Why forgiveness is important

When we don’t forgive ourselves, we beat ourselves to the pulp with self-sabotage. We lose faith in ourselves. When we don’t forgive ourselves, we are so blinded by the flaws that we forget to acknowledge our accomplishments. We forget who we are and pretend to be a carbon copy of the environment around us to cope with everyday life. When we forgive ourselves, we are learning to love ourselves unconditionally.

Unconditional Love

When it comes to maintaining a positive mindset, it’s key that we learn to love ourselves unconditionally. To love unconditionally means that we appreciate what’s being offered without any stipulations or requirements. To love unconditionally is to see your flaws and moments of wrongdoing and use them as a guideline of what not to do (or allow) in the future. When we love without reason, we are allowing grace to step in and begin to appreciate all it has to offer. It offers a chance to be reconnected with who we truly are and it offers a chance to learn to love ourselves again. Our mindsets are a direct reflection of how much we love ourselves.

3. “Seek not the good in external things; seek it in yourself.” Epictetus

In today's age of social media, it’s easy to get “lost in the sauce” when we lean on external validation to dictate how much energy we put into something vs learning to appreciate where we are in our respective journeys. When we learn to validate ourselves, we are taking mental notes on how we feel and we begin to honor those feelings. This will lead to rebuilding our self-confidence, taking accountability without judgement and setting yourself free from negative thought patterns. As we begin to shift our mindset to see the positive “what-ifs”, we will notice our life experiences change.

Self-Validation

There’s a quote by Eckhart Tolle that sums this up perfectly: “Acknowledging the good that you have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” This next phase of our life is going to be the greatest blessing that we need, but to reach this destination, we will need to learn to pick and choose our battles. Instead of relying on certain situations to bring us peace, we should practice living in peace every day.

Rebuild self-confidence

When we make the conscious decision to put forth our undivided attention towards our goals, we will have the end goal in mind but lay the foundation on which we will build ourselves. True happiness doesn’t come from material things; it comes from expressing gratitude for every aspect of the game. This alignment will rewrite the experiences we are attracting and will take us to our desired level of success.

Set yourself free

Without proper care for our dreams and nurturing our talents, we aren’t giving ourselves the necessary environment needed to reap the benefits. But when we take the time to work on ourselves by doing the “dirty work”, it is then that we will begin to see the fruits of our labor.

4. “No man is more unhappy than he who never faces adversity. For he is not permitted to prove himself.” - Seneca

The moment we decide that we deserve better, we will come face to face with opposition. We will be forced to prove that we stand on what we believe in. It is within these moments that we must prove ourselves worthy of the things we are asking for. This brings me to a question that Russel Wilson asked his teammates before the 2014 season, “Why not us?”

Why not us?

By changing our what-ifs, it allows our minds to see the endless opportunities. As mentioned earlier. When we give ourselves permission to dream and look towards the future, we are giving ourselves time to connect with our vision. We are opening our minds to the multiverse of opportunities that have an unlimited number of possibilities and outcomes.

Believe in the unseen

Believing in the unseen takes a ridiculous amount of courage, but when we bet on ourselves, we lead with more tenacity. Many people have fallen victim to the negative voices telling them to quit and they have begun to doubt the process. They doubted themselves. They didn’t have faith in the process of the journey, so they settled for less. But you and I, on the other hand, we’ve seen great things happen to great people. We’ve seen what happens when we believe in ourselves, despite what everyone else has to say about it. By changing our mindsets, we, too, will find victory.

When it’s all said and done and we put the campaign into overdrive, everybody who’s ever doubted us will see that when it rains, it pours. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. Even if you’re the only person, keep believing. We will soon reap the benefits of our hard work and unwavering faith in the unseen.

Whether you reach success or not is 100% up to you

There will be days when nothing makes sense. There will be times you have to pull yourself together because now you’re the big dog and your success or failure is 100% on you. There will also be days when it seems everything is coming together. We’re beginning to be optimistic towards the future and it’s showing through our manifestations. Fostering healthy mindsets will make this all possible.

The benefits of adversity

No matter who you are, the family you were born into, or where you’re from, you are not invincible. Adversity always strikes at the most inconvenient times. But as we’ve been talking about, our responses to said adversity and our mindsets are ultimately responsible for what we do next. It’s important to understand that the cup is neither half empty nor half full. The cup is refillable.

5. “Here is a rule to remember in the future, when anything tempts you to feel bitter: not ‘this is unfortunate’ but ‘to bear this worthily is good fortune.’” - Marcus Aurelius

When we replay the negative experiences subconsciously, we become bitter. When we think about all the jobs that we got denied from, all the relationships that we thought would last an eternity but fell apart, we are feeding the fuel for future disappointment. By allowing this hurt to consume us, we are unknowingly sending out negative frequencies into the universe. One way to combat these feelings of inadequacy is to have a positive outlook on the situation.

Why positive mindsets are important

Whether we want to accept it or not, the adversities that we’ve encountered happened for a reason. What that reason is and how we find meaning in it is 100% up to us. The power that we give it is also 100% up to us. When we take note of our shortcomings and acknowledge that it was a part of our journey to give us strength, we are returning the power back to ourselves.

You deserve better

When we take time away from the world, we are aligning with ourselves. When we learn that prioritizing ourselves is equally as important as prioritizing the needs of others, we begin to attract the things that are important to us. By restoring the connection with who we are, we can heal our own wounds by practicing forgiveness. Reminding ourselves that we deserve better is the beginning stage of changing our mindset. Whatever better means to you, it’s your responsibility to learn what you need to learn to transition into the life of your dreams. Goals mean nothing without execution. Prayer means nothing without meeting God halfway. Yes, He may not put more on you than you can bear, but He will also not put you in situations that you aren’t prepared for.

Release the expectation

By releasing the expectation and need to be perfect, we are forfeiting the need to be in control of every aspect of our lives. By forfeiting the need to be in control, we will understand that the real power lies within what we do in the current moment. By being focused on the current moment, we are releasing the pressure that gives us anxiety. By being grateful in the current moment, we change our perspective on the things we go through, so we can grow through them.

The choice is yours

Whether you spend your time wisely to become a master at whatever you want to master or want to squander life away and let time pass you by, the choice is 100% yours. Seeing that you’ve made it this far in the post, it’s obvious that you’ve thought that you deserve better. Now, it’s time to put one foot in front of the other to make “better” possible. The only thing that is holding us back from point A to point B is the work that needs to be done in the middle. Without a positive mindset, this work will be extremely challenging to overcome adversity and it will cause moments of “The Imposter Syndrome”. When we learn to cultivate a positive mindset, it is then that we see drastic changes happen in our lives.
