- What You Should NEVER Do From The Stage
Written by: Tricia Brouk, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I’m a big believer in an apology. I’m happily married and we apologize to each other all the time. The ability to apologize effectively is an honorable and valuable quality. However, you should NEVER apologize from the stage. EVER. Whether you are in the rehearsal room, or stepping onto the stage for your talk, or standing up at the wedding of your best friend, do not apologize. If your script bursts into flames and you can’t remember one word you wrote, take a deep breath and put out the fire. Apologizing is the surest way to lose our trust. And if you are always apologizing in rehearsal, it will happen on stage. I’ve worked with actors who apologize so often in rehearsal they’ve actually said “sorry” unconsciously during a show. They have trained themselves to apologize instead of wait. This is the trick you can rely on again and again. Wait. If you forget a line, wait. Take a walk to the podium and look at your notes. If you stumble over a word, say it again. If your clicker stops working and the slide doesn’t come, find it funny. Laugh it off. We’ve all been there. It’s okay. We don’t mind, and we won’t judge you, unless you apologize. If you forget a line, wait. If you stumble over your word, simply say it again. If you have a technical malfunction, laugh it off and then ask for help. The audience is rooting for you. Believe that. When we go to the theater, we are excited and awed by the actors before the curtain even rises. It’s the same for your talk. We are there to be taken on a journey and we want to go with you. Apologizing for yourself creates worry, anxiety and distance from the audience. We lose our ability to trust you and it’s really hard to get that back. When you stand fully present in your truth and speak from a place of authenticity and vulnerability, without apologizing for anything, you will win us over from the moment you step onto the stage. And that’s when you’ll have the impact you desire to have. For more info, follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and visit my website! - Travel Trends — 10 Trends That Will Change The Way We Travel
Written by: Veerle Beelen, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Whether it’s for business, family visits, or to have some time off from our busy lives, we all travel for different reasons. When the pandemic hit and the borders shut down, our realization of the important role travel plays in our lives grew since we couldn’t have it anymore. It is expected that once we can all travel the world again, people will be looking for more authentic travel experiences that will have a positive impact on both their own lives and the places they travel to. This will not only affect where we travel to, but mostly why and how we want to travel in the first place. Innovation, preferences for more sustainable travel options, and support from travel experts, like travel coaches, will shape these travel trends. 10 Travel Trends That Will Change The Way We Travel 1. Slow Travel No more dealing with FOMO or “travel burnout.” This type of travel is all about slowing down and being more in the present moment. Instead of ticking off a bucket list and trying to see as many places as possible, you immerse yourself in one place for a longer time to connect with its culture, food, music, and local community—the focus shifts from quantity to quality. Further, Slow travel provides more opportunities to support and connect with the local travel industry, which the lack of tourists has severely impacted. 2. Transformative Travel Transformative travel focuses on traveling with purpose and creating experiences that align with your goals, lifestyle, and personality. Travelers don’t want to travel just as an escape from their daily lives and be a tourist. Travel becomes a tool for self-reflection, personal growth, and fulfillment. Transformative travel experiences have a long-lasting effect on your life in ways that you perhaps couldn’t even have imagined before going on the trip. It’s about becoming more open-minded to new experiences that can change you on a deeper level. 3. Wellness Travel Wellness Travel is all about personal wellbeing during your travels. It can help reduce any negative effects that travel can have on your health, like jetlag or ‘travel fatigue,’ and as a tool for relaxation, rejuvenation, self-healing, fitness, or maintaining a healthy lifestyle while traveling. Not only are spa retreats part of Wellness travel, but you could also think about culinary experiences, cultural traditions and ceremonies, exercise outdoors, and natural resources, like hot springs and mud baths. The focus on personal wellbeing can be integrated with every part of your trip. From the type of transportation you choose, to finding specific wellness-centered accommodations or spending more time in nature. 4. Domestic Travel When borders closed down, people were still looking for ways to escape their daily life and explore. People started to appreciate their local surroundings more, and were finding new ways to enjoy the things that often feel so familiar and might often be forgotten in our daily lives. A part of domestic travel is connecting with local people and enriching your understanding of local life. Post-COVID, some travelers may prefer visiting one place and staying in this small bubble over spending time in many different or faraway places due to health and safety measures. 5. Sustainable Travel This type of travel focuses on protecting our planet, using eco-friendly ways of transportation, and reducing the footprint we leave behind in the places we visit. It’s also about finding ways for tourism to cause the least possible harm to nature and culture and, instead of causing negative effects, trying to bring benefits to the environment and natural resources. When the world shut down, we saw nature recovering due to the lack of pollution caused by daily commutes and travel. However, it’s not only about the choices we make in terms of transportation. It also concerns how we spend our time at our travel destination. For example, choosing more environmentally conscious options in terms of accommodation and activities and being mindful of how we can support the local communities. 6. Technology & Travel New technologies in the travel industry can help improve travelers' customer experience, satisfaction, and confidence, find ways to make travel more sustainable, and connect consumers to their surroundings. Think about virtual reality (VR) to connect you to a destination before visiting or new applications and devices that make traveling more efficient and comfortable. Innovations can also help travel more responsibly in terms of health and safety and personalize travel experiences even more. 7. Remote Work & Travel The rise of the digital nomad already started before the pandemic. However, when everyone started to work remotely in 2020, the trend of working from anywhere became more mainstream. People will be looking for more opportunities to combine their work with their travels and have more flexibility on where and when they want to work. Remote work is not limited to backpackers with a laptop lifestyle who want to explore the world. More passionate travelers and professionals will want to combine their vacations with working remotely to spend more time at their travel destination instead of spending 5 days per week in the office or working from home. 8. Staycation Related to domestic travel, but even closer to home. Staycations have become more popular when we couldn’t go anywhere else. People who have been missing traveling have been finding creative solutions to have a vacation feeling in their own backyard. This also comes with appreciating the little things in life and the simple pleasures, like nature and relaxation. It’s a realization that you don’t have to go far to spark your wanderlust. 9. Family/Group Travel When the borders closed, families and partners living in different countries got separated for a long time. Even within the same country, people could not always visit their families and friends anymore due to restrictions. People who have been in one of these situations will first of all use travel to visit their loved ones and reunite again after a long time. Besides that, people want to organize group trips with their friends or family, not only to stay in their familiar bubbles but mostly to bond with each other and spend some well-needed quality time together. 10. Travel Coaches More travelers are looking for the ‘why’ of travel first instead of the ‘where.’ When you want to have more personalized experiences that are not just about a destination but have a deeper purpose, a Travel Coach can support you. Travel coaching offers travelers tools to include more self-reflection, personal development, fulfillment, and meaning to their travel experiences. However, Travel coaches are not the same as Travel agents. Instead of focusing on the more practical parts of your trip, they will guide you on creating travel experiences that align with your personal life goals. A Travel Coach keeps you accountable before, during, and after the trip and offers tools to personalize your travel experiences. Travel can have a life-changing impact while creating more purposeful, meaningful, and authentic travel experiences. For more info, follow me on Facebook, Instagram and visit my website! - Techniques to Help You Manage Your Emotions
Written by: Moira Hutchison, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Emotions can be delicate and even complicated. They can determine how we think and act. On the one hand, they are essential to us as human beings. On the other, they can create chaos in our lives. The difference lies in how you acknowledge and manage them. If we are not sensitive, we may act on our emotions too quickly, leading us to make decisions that we come to regret. Learn how to work with your emotions instead of letting them get the better of you!! Here are some techniques to help you better manage your emotions: 1. Avoid reacting immediately. If a situation has triggered strong negative emotions, try to remove yourself from the situation, either mentally or physically. Walk away, if possible, perhaps to find a quiet place to do some deep breathing exercises while you collect your thoughts. You can then return to the situation, safe in the knowledge that these emotions are just temporary. If you cannot walk away, take a moment to breathe deeply while considering an appropriate response. The extra oxygen will help relax your muscles, calm your mind, and clarify your thoughts. Once you have calmed yourself, respond to the situation with a well-thought-out reply rather than a knee-jerk reaction. 2. Look for divine guidance. Often those with faith are better able to manage their emotions. When you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed by an emotional response, close your eyes and seek a positive solution, asking the universe, your higher power, the Divine, or even your inner wisdom for the best way forward. 3. Find a healthy outlet for your emotions. Once you have managed to acknowledge your emotions, it is important to find a healthy way to release them. It is never a good idea to bottle up your emotions, as eventually they will bubble over and erupt. Some ideas for you to consider: Call or visit a friend or family member you trust to talk about the situation and how you reacted. When you hear someone else’s opinion, you broaden your awareness and may be able to view the situation from a different perspective. You could also consider keeping a journal or diary in which to write down your feelings or emotions. Once you see the situation on paper, sometimes you can see it more clearly . It may help you to release your emotions or spark ideas that help you to resolve the situation. For some people, aggressive forms of exercise help them deal with emotions, while others find that calmer methods such as yoga or meditation work best. Try these methods and see what works best for you. 4. See the bigger picture. Whatever is happening to you is happening for a reason. Try to see past the current situation and understand what it means in the grand scheme of things. Even in your worst times, there is usually a reason why this happens, which you often learn in time. 5. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones. When you experience negative emotions, you think negative thoughts, and vice versa. This can create a cycle of negativity that can be hard to break out of. Whenever you experience an emotion that causes you to think negatively, replace these thoughts with positive thoughts. You could try to play out the ideal resolution to your current issue or simply think about someone or something that makes you happy. 6. Forgive what triggered you. What sets off an emotional reaction in you? Perhaps you feel anger when your friend does that thing that irritates you. Or perhaps you feel depressed thinking back at a decision you could have made differently. Forgive whatever is causing the negative emotions . This will help you become detached from these triggers and stop these emotional reactions from boiling over in the future. When you take control of your emotions, you take control of your future! Practice these techniques and take back control of your life. For more info, follow Moira on Facebook , Instagram , or LinkedIn , join her Facebook Community , or visit her website ! - Water Energy Transformation Technique
Written by: Stephanie Gulu , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Water has forever been our friend, a sense of comfort outside of ourselves that soothes us on the inside. Water cleanses and purifies the mind, body, and spirit. It is used from chemistry to agriculture. It literally interacts and touches everything on this planet. I grew up next to the ocean, which is my happy place, and I've been known to sleep in the hot bath for several hours when I cannot take the cold of a Utah winter night any longer. As history has used water in many ways, I’m going to share a new perspective with you. The visualization of water can be used to change the state of the body. That’s right, imagining water as a small flowing stream or a waterfall will change the state of someone else’s body or your own. Visualizing water will change a tight muscle into a relaxed one, and the body will drop into a state of calmness and increased peace. Using your mind like this is energy work and only focuses on visualizing different scenes with water. Simple Steps: How To Use Water As Energy Work Step 1: Ground and Connect First, take 3- 5 deep breaths, preferably belly breaths. Your belly will extend when you inhale and contract during the exhale. Have both feet touching the ground. You can be sitting or standing. Knees slightly bent if your standing. Let go of the day, and be present and grounded in this moment Your eyes can be open or closed. Closed might be easier in the beginning, and with practice, you can keep them open. Whichever is easiest for you will work just perfectly. Step 2: What To Visualize Think of a time when you were in nature by some type of water to get a picture, remember how you felt, how peaceful it was, what the surrounding area looked like, was there greenery, sunlight, a gentle breeze, what did the water sound like? How did you see the water moving, fast or slow? We want to slow down the flow of water in this visualization so that it is calming. A stream, a river, a creek, needs to be seen slowing down to a gentle pace A waterfall can be seen the way it is in nature unless it's very powerful; slow it down to the perfect cascade of water falling Step 3: When to Visualize When you need to ground yourself or clear your own energy, use the waterfall. Imagine you standing inside a waterfall. The water is coming down from above your head all the way down, running over your feet. This technique can be used when you feel a stressful situation and disconnected from yourself or your environment, when your mind starts to run with negative self-talk, or overwhelmed. Use the stream/creek/river visualization when you're helping another person relax, calm down, decrease tension, reduce aches or pains. Have the person sit down next to you or lay down with you sitting next to them. You can put your hands on their shoulders for feet. Have them close their eyes and relax, take your deep breaths, visualize water running over their body from the feet up to the head and out of their heads through the arms and back down to the feet. You can repeat this process a few times or just run the water through one body area of pain or discomfort, such as a lower leg or a shoulder. Visualize what you can see the easiest, a small stream of water running through the area of pain or tightness. Step 4: More Ways to Use Energy Work Maybe you have a sick toddler or a little one that you're rocking in the rocking chair, visualize the calm waterfall through both of you, or just them. See a tiny stream of water flowing down their spine. When you're visiting a family member in the hospital, it's a perfect time to use energy work. You can sit at their feet or sit next to them, holding their hand and do the visualization. Anytime I need to get calm and grounded, a meeting at work, a presentation, public speaking, anytime any place, I can use the waterfall visualization. Conclusion: I wanted to give you something user-friendly in energy work that you can apply in your daily life to help yourself, your family, or your community. A piece of wisdom that you can use anywhere at any time. This has not failed me in 30 years of bodywork. You don’t need anything but your mind and the belief that this works and you can do it! - How to Use the Power of Authenticity and Storytelling for Effective Marketing
Written by: Krystal Hille , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Authenticity and alignment have become real buzzwords in marketing, and the old ways of keeping our private lives and personality out of the equation, are over. This can be scary because often, we don’t like all of who we are. Most of us still carry pockets of shame about things we rather the world didn’t know about us. And herein lies to opportunity of the New Way, the personal growth of the entrepreneur! Not everything needs to be shared, but we would do well to show up authentically and bring our humanity and vulnerability into your public world. This means moving beyond the picture-perfect image many entrepreneurs create on their social media platforms. It means cleaning up the things we don’t like about ourselves so that we can fall in love with the amazing being that we truly are. It means sharing the thoughts and beliefs we create as we move through the challenging moments life throws our way. It means sharing our reflections and learnings. Why is authenticity so important? People buy from people they like. They want to know that you can relate to them, because you too, have experienced their challenges. To like you, they need to get to know you! If you show up as something you are not or hide those quirky aspects of your personality that you think are not professional, you will NEVER attract your ideal clients or soul clients, as I like to call them. If there are things you don’t like about yourself, your potential clients will know that on an unconscious level; and to break through your current income glass ceiling, you may just need to clean up the next layers of fear present in your life right now. I know that’s what it took for me. It takes energy hiding aspects of self. And just like an air balloon underwater, we can only push them under the surface for a certain amount of time before they explode into full view. The days where we can copy someone’s system are over. Unless you share YOUR voice and YOUR message, there will be an energetic mismatch between your words, essence, and message. I learned this the hard way. A few weeks back, I copied and adjusted a mentor’s social post that got her great engagement. Mine had no engagement at all. Why? Because it wasn’t in alignment with MY energy, my essence, and my truth! It came from her heart, not mine. When I write from my heart, when I am moved by my words and pour my deepest wisdom onto a page, it lands with 'my people.' Showing up exactly how we are is sometimes easier said than done. Most of us still have parts that we don’t like about ourselves and if there is something you are ashamed of and don’t want people to know, change it! If you can’t change it, make peace with it. Journaling is one way to make those changes. Working through them with a coach is another. Whichever way you do it, just do it so that you can share yourself freely, breakthrough your current income ceiling, and attract more of your soul clients. During this process, it is also helpful to identify the fears that sabotage that desire for authentic connections to our ideal client. Identifying the top 3 fears of why entrepreneurs don’t share their stories. a) Fear of rejection: “What if my high-school friends or my mother-in-law find out what I do for a living?” If you cater towards those old friends or family connections, you can’t powerfully speak to your ideal client at the same time. Who needs to go? One of my colleagues blocked her own husband on Facebook, so she wouldn’t receive his ‘well-meaning’ criticism of how she showed up. What will it take for you to stop watering down your message? b) Fear of abandonment: This fear has us out of alignment with ourselves and makes us wear too many different hats, showing up in different ways for different people. It keeps the pleaser archetype flourishing and stops our inner CEO king, or queen from running our life. c) Fear of not belonging: We are tribal beings, and a young child cannot survive without the tribe. But our culture has lost the right of passage ritual from child to adult. We are not taught when it is time to stop pleasing adults so that they keep us safe, and when embark on the adventure of self-validation, self-love, and self-belonging. The hero and heroine’s journey takes us away from the tribe, makes us go on an adventure to face our inner demons, deep dive into and powerful initiations, and return home as the king or queen that we are, ruling our own lives, showing up authentically so that we can gather our very own tribe and community around us. Here is to you sharing yourself powerfully and authentically! Here is to your journey! - The Law of Diminishing Returns – Why You Should Look for Business Help Sooner Rather than Later
Written by: Iliana Rocha, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. The law of diminishing returns is an economic concept: despite increasing effort/input, productivity/output at some point stops increasing at the same rate. So how does this apply to you – an entrepreneur, small business owner, leader? Below is a story that likely resonates with many of you. You start with a high potential business, and you are energized and determined. You start doing all the things you know you should do and start seeing results, and you get self-assured – you can handle anything that comes your way. Unfortunately, your efforts and knowledge can only get you so far. Not because you aren’t good at what you do, but because one person alone can’t do it all. Some of your activities aren’t bearing as much fruit as you expected, and even though you are working harder than ever, results are slowing down. You begin feeling discouraged, but you are motivated and a fighter, so you keep working harder and harder. In what little free time you have, you are researching and reading on how to drive your business further. Yet, you still aren’t seeing the results that you were hoping for. So now you start feeling stuck and overwhelmed. You are dealing with the same business problems day after day. You put tremendous effort into the business but still lack results. This do-it-yourself vortex only increases the burnout. “If you want to go far, go together.” – Proverb. It is important to recognize that no one person has all the answers. But, we tend to get cozy and comfortable with where we are and accept fire fighting as a way of life. However, by getting stuck, you miss the opportunities of how to unlock change and capitalize on your company’s growth potential. No one ever grew by staying stuck in the status quo. It is difficult for the status quo and exponential growth to coexist in this ever-changing world. When you experience new, more difficult problems, that is a sign of progress! But first, you have to get over your everyday challenges. The sooner you get the help you need, the better! Ideally, you’d do so before burnout, overwhelm, and disappointment set in. Every company was once a startup, and the most well-known ones (Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook) openly highlight the struggles of their early days. You are likely experiencing similar challenges to them; even though your business problems appear to be unique, they are quite universal. That’s good news! It means that you can easily access the knowledge and resources required to knock these out of the park. Focusing on one problem at a time and addressing them is important – your solutions become the foundation of your long-term business. A lot of leaders and business owners hesitate to hire a coach or consultant. And we get the concern – as a small business, an entrepreneur, can you afford to hire someone else? But what is the cost of your inaction? Many businesses get stuck before exponential growth because their leaders don’t know how to plan and leverage external knowledge and capabilities. So take a different approach – get the help you need! Fire yourself from all the odd jobs you do that are not leveraging your strengths and core competencies. Let someone help or even fully handle your day-to-day operations and bottleneck activities, streamline the back-end of your business, and oversee the team implementation so you can move into the visionary role as the business owner without all the overwhelm. - Launching a Business? Follow These Tips to Leverage The Feminine – Meet Julie Allison
Julie is a passionate and experienced financial professional dedicated to helping women launch and manage financially sound companies. She believes that women's creative and collaborative approach makes them uniquely suited to mentor, guide, and lead. When women-owned businesses grow, so do their voices, influence, and communities. Julie has over twenty-five years of financial management experience inside major corporations working with marketing, manufacturing, and supply chain teams. She has learned first-hand the pitfalls of corporate greed and brings a holistic view of business success to her clients. Julie is the founder of Watch Her Grow , a company providing expert financial services to women-owned businesses. Who is Julie? I am the founder of Watch Her Grow, a holistic financial services provider focusing on women entrepreneurs and small business owners . People often think of financial professionals as purely logical and analytical individuals who lead from the brain. I am more like a pomegranate: lots of seeds combined to form the whole. For me, writing a blog post is just as sweet as creating a long-term financial plan. Operating a successful business takes more than good math skills. It requires creativity, adaptability, curiosity, intuition, and a deep capacity to listen. During my long corporate career, I witnessed first-hand the pitfalls of investor-ownership and models of endless growth. I saw the challenges women face in having their skills valued and their voices heard. I launched Watch Her Grow to help women entrepreneurs and small business owners face these challenges. I live outside Chicago with my dog, Cooper, and visit with my two adult sons regularly. When I’m not working, I like to create messes in the kitchen, ride my bike on nature trails, or find my breath in a downward-facing dog yoga pose. What do you do for your clients? I’m a financial therapist. Inviting someone into your financial world can be a vulnerable undertaking. Financial challenges are often exacerbated by individual behaviors or practices. That is true for all of us. Some of us are savers, and some of us are spenders. Some of us see the big picture, and some of us focus on the details. I work to create simple processes to balance those behaviors in a supportive way that allows business owners to choose what works best for them. I collaborate with owners to create business and financial plans, develop strategies, and manage risk. Leveraging software, I simplify bookkeeping and reporting and provide insight into financial results so that business owners can make good day-to-day decisions. I take some of the weight off of your shoulders and reduce the financial stress of launching and owning a business. What is the meaning behind the name “Watch Her Grow?” Traditional corporate business models reflect a masculine worldview with a primary focus on profit at the expense of everything else. At Watch Her Grow, we intentionally embody the feminine and believe in a holistic view of success. Our mission is to elevate the voices and influence of women. We support both the personal growth of women and the financial growth of their companies. When women grow as individuals, their businesses grow as well. Our tree logo was hand-drawn by a high-school art student and given digital form by an independent designer and mother. It embodies the collaboration of women and the need for both a firm foundation and the space to grow. The deep roots represent the support needed to grow. The outward-reaching branches signify the growth that occurs when given freedom and space. Tell me more about the masculine worldview? Why does it need to change? There is nothing wrong with the masculine. Feminine and masculine energies exist in all of us, and we need both. I’ve overused both energies at different times in my life. The key is to recognize when we’re out of balance and make adjustments. There is a natural ebb and flow that happens - if we allow it. In the United States, the majority of our business structures are driven by the masculine. We follow practices of hierarchy, competition, ownership, and dominion. Many entities and individuals have lost sight of the feminine energy that is needed for creation, flow, and community. We’ve forgotten that the goal of masculine energy is to foster the feminine… not to deplete, own, and control her. Both women and men benefit from rebalancing these energies and reshaping our structures. Can you give an example of over-used masculine energy in the business world today? How can Watch Her Grow influence change? The most obvious example of over-used masculine energy is the power of the purse. In the United States, our laws and tax code serve the interests of entities and investors with massive wealth. Corporations pay almost no income tax, and banks are largely deregulated. Wealthy investors pay a lower tax rate on investment income than workers pay on their wages. Decisions about protecting the environment or improving wages of lower-paid workers are made based on financial returns for those who hold the purse and not the health and wellness of people and the earth. Many of the people who suffer from the economic disadvantages are women and people of color. Single mothers are disproportionally impacted. Watch Her Grow helps women establish agency over their lives and generate their own wealth. Owning a business gives women a creative outlet, the ability to lead and make decisions, the opportunity to balance family and work, the ability to pay themselves a fair wage, and the ability to create collaborative environments. When women own successful businesses, we can create structures, childcare arrangements, and schedules that truly benefit women. We can hire other women and seek services from other women-owned businesses. Instead of hierarchical structures, we can refocus on collaboration and creative flow. We can help restore balance. On a larger level, Watch Her Grow supports organizations that push for policies that benefit women, including extended paid family leave after the birth of a child, low-cost and quality childcare, ethical and fair wages for part-time employees, and affordable healthcare coverage for gig employees and single mothers. What are your qualifications? From a technical perspective, I have a degree in accounting, and I passed the Certified Public Accountant exam. I spent over 25 years working inside large corporations, and I’ve had roles in manufacturing, strategy, marketing, and financial planning groups. The success of a business is determined by day-to-day decisions, contingency plans, balancing risks and opportunities, and knowing when to invest in growth and when to exit. I’ve lived all of it: corporate restructurings, new product launches, plant closures, etc. From a holistic perspective, I intentionally bring the feminine into Watch Her Grow and my daily life. The feminine is represented by embodiment, and there is no better way to get into your body than through movement. I went through yoga teacher training several years ago and used the practices of asana and breath work to keep myself grounded in all aspects of my life. I’m divorced with two grown sons and know first-hand the juggling act women face trying to balance career and family. I’ve job-shared and worked both part and full-time positions prior to launching Watch Her Grow. I’ve commuted 2 ½ hours to and from work and still fed my kids and helped with homework. Women in business are exhausted and in desperate need of support. Who better to help you on our path than someone who has lived it? What tips do you offer women in business, or women considering launching a business? Celebrate Your “Knowing.” Many of my clients say, “I’m not good at finances,” or “I’m not good at math.” Usually, what they really mean is that they don’t have a lot of business terminology in their vocabulary, which comes from the masculine. The intuitive flow of running a business comes from the feminine. Don’t discount what you know just because it doesn’t fit someone else’s framework. Speak your own language. Find Your People. There are lots of organizations supporting women in businesses. In Chicago, we have Femmebought and The Small Project, among others. If you’re hanging out with people who undermine or sabotage your success, move on. Support Other Women. The lack of perceived opportunities for women creates competition. Support like-minded women whenever you can, even if they are a competitor. At Watch Her Grow, we spotlight other female-owned companies on social media and share the stories of women on our blog. Practice Feeding the Feminine. Creativity needs restoration to get the juices flowing. Do whatever you can to keep refilling your cup: close your eyes for ten minutes; place your hands on your abdomen and breathe in and out from your belly; go outside and look up toward the sky. Small moments of turning inward restore flow and intuition. Trust Yourself . Many clients come to me with a stack of self-help books and expensive subscriptions that promise more customers and more money. Practice discernment with what you really need and how you want to serve the world. The world needs your intuition and your voice to come forward. Find Business Partners You Trust. Two of my recent clients mentioned that their prior accountant brought them to tears. When you decide to look outside yourself for help with finances, marketing, sales, etc, remember that it’s a bit like finding a therapist. You want someone who sees you, supports you, and shares in your mission and values. Who should hire you? Most of my clients communicate that they feel a huge sense of relief once their financial records are in order, and they have visibility into their results and their path forward. The stress of putting off a problem is often worse than the problem itself. If you are thinking about launching your own company or need financial help with your existing company, you can find us at https://watchhergrow.com/ . - Is Everything We Endure — Even Our Struggles — Connected to Our Soul’s Desire for Growth?
Written by: Kim Conway, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. When life throws us hardships, we often ask why, but this question rarely receives an answer and can keep us stuck in our pain. For many years, I have worked as a therapist and coach to help people heal from life's struggles. Most of my clients begin with the question, "Why did this happen?" or "Why must I go through this? Aren’t I a good person?" I often reply, "Is there an answer to that question that would make it okay?" Of course, there is nothing that makes the hardships in life okay or seem fair. As my spiritual awakening unfolded, I brought this question to spirit. The response is often given to me in the form of poetry, and I have included the poem here. I have learned from my mediumship that we enter this world with a plan perfectly created by our souls. Each one of us is on a journey of learning and expansion. I believe that our souls place in our path different ways to accomplish our learning. It is typically through the struggles of life that we experience the greatest potential of growth. Perhaps, the question is not why but rather how . What if the truth is the learning that occurred is perfectly planned fed as a mother to baby bird for the transformation is set way before your own birth this is the truth so why must you suffer you ask in your worth? For each one of you does know what you are meant to do it is ironic to see you question your path and its roads for they have been set before you as powerful as the sea. But human eyes do have blindfolds covering and hiding your truth and it is easy to become lost, and it is easy to suffer great cost with searching outside as the belief this is where your path does reside... But the greatest truth to be known is your truth is always grown deep inside of you in your soul— this is the truth... It is empowering to stop asking, Why and begin to ask, How can I grow from this? We cannot move backward and change what has already occurred in our lives. But we can learn and heal. We are all survivors. Yes, no matter what our reaction to the events in our lives, we are survivors. Our magnificent souls hold our personal truths, plans, and destiny. It is difficult to give up control over our own destiny, and we always have our free will. It is empowering to believe we have our souls right there, steering us towards our greatest opportunity of learning. Life’s struggles remind us we can survive more than we ever thought. Hardship often ignites our resilience, compassion for others, and a desire to help. How clever it would be to be able to return to when you were a baby and see what is your path and what is your destination imagine if you did have all of this information? We tell you with joy this knowledge is always at hand your truth no matter what is encased in your plan held in your own treasure chest which lives in your soul; you may find it right now or wait until you grow old. For the timing is yours to set and follow its pace and is ignited with joy curiosity, excitement, and grace... Perhaps the saying, ‘The truth lies within, is a divine truth. We survive and grow because of the support and guidance from our souls. Our souls are our true selves — not our thoughts, not what others say about us, not what we have endured. Rather, our true selves are our light within, helping us grow and expand our ability to love, care for, and comfort others. Sometimes, we learn to do this through the pain. Each struggle presents to us an opportunity to grow. We can either remain stuck in pain, or we can look inside ourselves and begin to recognize our strength and the survivor that lies within. Struggles often bring huge opportunities for growth, including forgiveness and seeing ourselves in this survivor's light. As you continue your growth and healing journey, perhaps this belief that we can use our traumas, struggles, loss, and hardships to grow will help you and empower you to see yourself in a more expansive and positive way. It is true all that you need is the desire to know and truth you will receive and witness yourself grow into the magnificent being you—yes—you already are. For all that you need resides attached to your heart connected to your soul and one with the great source; just step onto this path and do not change course. For today you have been told what your soul already knows your truth is quite beautiful, it sparkles and glows, so believe in yourself, believe in your grace, believe in your power, believe in your love, believe in your truth, for today you have been told. - Holi — Symbol of Life and Spring!
Written by: Stefania Piccardo, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Holi, symbol of life and spring! What is Holi? Holi is celebrated in India and all over the world, but what is the meaning of this colorful celebration? Why people throw colors at each other or lit bonfires? The meaning is all hidden in the legends that surround this beautiful festival. They celebrate good over evil on the first day of Holi and the second day is the celebration of love, Spring, and new life. It is celebrated as an event that leads the world coming out of the darkness of winter into the light and renewal of Spring. It is usually connected to the God Vishnu as it also celebrates the love between Radha and Krishna, who is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The legend of Holika and Hiranyakashipu. Bonfire characterizes the first evening of Holi. The legend revolves around two demon siblings, Holika and Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu was a demon King and had been given immortality or…. sort of. Actually, he had been given five special powers, which kept him from being killed under certain conditions. He could not be destroyed: by animals or humans indoors or outdoors during the day or night on land, air, or water by bullets or with handheld weapons Being indestructible, he started believing he was a God. Whoever worshipped other gods other than him was punished or killed. Since Hiranyakashipu’s son Prahlad remained a worshiper of the Hindu god Vishnu instead of his father, the demon planned to kill his son because of this. Hiranyakashipu bound his sister Holika into the scheme. By wearing a special coat that shielded her from fire, she took Prahlad into a bonfire. The plan involved killing Prahlad in the fire but instead, her coat flew off and covered Prahlad instead, protecting him and killing her. Epilogue After having witnessed all these events, Vishnu was determined to put an end to this evil creature. He smartly managed to bypass Hiranyakashipu’s five powers by: taking the form of half-lion, half-human (so not animal or human) arriving at sunset (not day or night) showing on a doorstep (not outdoors or indoors) placing the demon on his lap (which isn’t land, water or air) and killing Hiranyakashipu with his nails (which aren’t projectiles or a hand-held weapon) It is thought that Holika gave the name to this festival and the reason why bonfires are lit during the first night. The Legend of Krishna – Why is it called the festival of colors? According to this legend, Krishna was quite naughty. He did not use to like his dark blue skin and wanted to be fairer, like Radha. He was advised by his mother, Yashoda, to color Radha’s face with any dye he wanted. After this, They were still in love with each other, meaning that Radha was not accepted Krishna’s mischievous nature. This may be why people today throw colors at each other during the second day of this celebration and why the festival represents the love between Radha and Krishna. What is the powder used called and made of? Gulal powder is used for various festivals but mostly associated with Holi, and it is made of a mixture of more than 95% corn-starch blended with food and cosmetic pigments. The colors used have various meanings: Red represents love. Blue is associated with Krishna’s skin colour. Yellow is the turmeric that is used for most of Indian food. Green is the color of spring, youth, and new life! Of course, there are many more legends surrounding this beautiful and traditional Indian festival, but these are just a hint to the many stories there are regarding Holi. - Profit From Complexity
Written by: Chuck Bean, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. For decades now, some highly successful people have voiced their opinion on success and often suggest that wealth is not the end goal and that it makes sense to make it simple and keep it simple. Suggestions include simplifying our lives, finding ways to simplify things for our clients, and self-actualization should be the goal. My take on this is threefold: 1) It is always the people that have already obtained success that say you don’t need it. So after they have had the chance to drive the Ferrari, fly executive class around the world, and do those things that most people will never get a chance to do, they suggest, "Don’t do it, it isn’t as great as you think it is." My suggestion...don't fall for this advice. It is great and if you can enjoy this sort of lifestyle do it! 2) I agree that self-actualization is a great goal and an amazing end state. However, unless we plan to toss Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to the wind, pretty much every step on the road to self-actualization in this day and age requires money. Yep, good ol’ greenbacks are required for just about everything. One of my favorite sayings is, "Every job sucks at times. It sucks to be the President; it suc ks to be a janitor at times. So, do something that pays well." Cash is king, and we need it. 3) We live in a 1/99 percent world. 1% of the population controls and stores 50% of the wealth, while 99% spend the other 50% and create economic circulation. If you ever want to get up into the 1% bracket, you will have to work hard for it, marry it or inherit it. For most of us, that means work hard. Relating this concept of simplicity to business, the need for simplicity is a double edge sword. Swing it one way and using simplicity to cut through problems makes sense. Determining how to get from point A to point B with the least amount of burden is a strong guiding principle for every businessperson. However, swing it the other way and make your products and services simple to operate or simple to understand, and it creates undue customer and competitor advantage. Simplified offerings = less competitive advantage = lower value = less profit. I learned many years ago that there is profit in complexity. I had a boss that used the term "mystery in the can." That mystery in the can created a complexity in the products we sold, which allowed them to be sold for higher profit margins. That same complexity can be applied to everything we peddle. The dispenser was what we called it. It was the dispenser that added the value and the mystery. Complexity also creates loyalty. Contrary to the belief that customers will always choose the simpler of two solutions, complexity will create a learning experience that results in engagement. It takes work to help people navigate the complexity, but once they learn how to do this, it creates the customer stickiness that we all strive for. But don’t go too far. Complexity resides on a continuum that is closer to simplicity than chaos. Erring and making your offering too complicated or overly difficult to understand or apply is an innovation killer. Stage it. If you have a chaotic product or service you need to introduce, introduce the complexity on a staged basis. Ease your clients into it. Tom Peters says, "Put a 5-foot 10-inch person into 6 foot 3 inches of water, and odds are they’ll learn to swim. They may sputter and spit a bit, but they can always hop off the bottom and get air. Put the same person in 7 foot 4 inches of water, and you may have a dead body on your hands." So like Tom says... ease them in. There is profit in complexity, and every businessperson should remember that. And success… well, that is your own interpretation, and don’t lose sight of your goals. - Wealth is Just a State of Mind — 3 Truths to Adopt to Attract More
Written by: Louisa Havers , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. The ramifications for thinking yourself wealthy are both exciting and far-reaching. Just imagine setting your mind to earning 6 or 7 figures and then achieving it simply by adopting a new mindset. Sounds amazing, doesn’t it? And it truly is. Working with the universal laws and energy principles can change your life in the most profound way. So, what’s the catch? What’s stopping you from seeing the success and results in your life that you deserve? I realize there may be those of you reading this who are saying to yourselves – what a load of baloney! Or you might be thinking that manifesting doesn’t work or that it’s simply not possible to think yourself through an income ceiling or attract new clients just by dreaming them. I’m here to tell you it’s absolutely possible. I know because I’ve been on the journey myself! Indeed, if someone had told me this 10 years ago, I’d have agreed wholeheartedly with the naysayers out there, but now I know differently. My story is by no means unique. Years of hard graft on the corporate hamster wheel – working all the hours imaginable, left their toll on me. I felt overwhelmed, tired, financially underappreciated, and my body rebelled. A severe bout of shingles, followed by post-viral chronic fatigue, compelled me to re-evaluate my life. Looking back, it’s an episode I’m forever grateful for. Without it, I’d never have discovered the secrets to a more fulfilled life, how changing my mindset changed everything, and I mean everything, for the better. Over the last few years, I’ve helped thousands of high achievers and coaches to put the techniques I’ve learned into practice for themselves, with consistently astonishing results. I show them how they too can hack their subconscious mind using advanced manifesting techniques to increase money and success to previously unimagined levels. When they say that money is all in the mind, they’re not kidding! Expunging and re-framing long-held beliefs and ideas opens the floodgates to wealth and success. It might not happen overnight, but you’d be amazed at how speedily you can manifest wealth – with the right frame of mind. But here’s the rub. Our minds are wonderful and also devious things! I like to call it our monkey mind. And it really is mischievous. We might think our thoughts are on the right track, but our day-to-day reality shows us something very different. How many times have you said to yourself, if I work hard, I’ll make money? Your monkey mind has picked up on the fact that you think making lots of money will be hard, which then manifests in a scarcity of the very thing you are seeking – money. The trick is to see through these wicked pitfalls and traps that our subconscious mind lays out for us – in its mistaken attempt to keep us safe . This is because our safety default is usually the status quo. The very status quo we are anxious to escape. So how, you might ask, do you start on this journey to attract more wealth into your life. Here I outline three secret truths. Each is a key driver on the journey to change for the better. 1. Our past impacts our present. As humans, we love stories. It’s how we learn. They are often passed from one generation to the next. We also tell tales about ourselves to ourselves, and the most powerful of all is our money story. It’s the one we’ve built up over our lifetime, which attaches a tale around our finances and our relationship with them. It ascribes reasons why we have money; or why we don’t. We consciously and subconsciously tell this narrative to ourselves – and anyone else who’ll listen – daily. To align to the wealth we aspire to, it’s necessary to heal this story. Only then can we free up space in our minds, allowing us to move forward and discover a different, richer money narrative that is better aligned to our new money mindset desires and dreams. 2. Be curious. A curious mind is an open mind. An open mind allows opportunities in. Wherever you are on your money story journey – there are infinite possibilities to broaden it, but only if your mind is open to possibilities. For example, one of the things I often hear clients say is, “I tried changing my mindset, but I lost a new client.” I teach them to re-shape their thinking to encompass an open way of viewing what’s happening. Instead of a mindset of worry, which closes our brains further, they learn to ask the right questions; to live in the spirit of curiosity; asking instead, “I wonder why I lost that new business leads? Maybe it was because that business wasn’t right for me? Maybe I am freeing up space to welcome in an even better / bigger piece of business.” Open thinking unlocks the mind, enabling one to see the world in an altogether more positive way, which in turn opens up your vibrational set point, attracting other, more profitable, opportunities you may not have thought about in the first place. 3. Don’t fear the fear. Remember being told that fear holds you back. Well, it’s true! Don’t allow yourself to become paralyzed by fear. You need to feel it and embrace it because what you desire usually sits just outside your comfort zone. It’s only by accepting the fear that you’re able to unearth issues that might be holding you back – ones that you never even knew you had until you felt the fear. So, instead of running, thank it. It’s your friend because it shows you what you need to release from your energy. Only by doing so are you able to move forward into new, exciting, and rewarding territory. - Let Us Unite to Change Our World
Written by: Haseena Shaheed-Jackson, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I see our world to be greatly divided. Our values have shifted from valuing others to devaluing others. I challenge every person to revisit and reevaluate our values. I ask that you take the time to reflect and meditate on your top three values. Do your top three values support any of these – valuing others, making a difference, building communities, and fostering change? If not, they should because our world needs change and transformation. My top three values are integrity, hope, listening . In regards to integrity, I stand by my word. If I cannot stand by my word, then I will not create or build trust. In regards to hope, I have hope because I believe in the greatness within every person and that this world can become better. Every person can achieve their best, aspiring for greatness and realizing their dreams. One must believe and have faith. “The potential for greatness lives within each of us.” – Wilma Rudolph Lastly, the values of listening . I must be committed to listening to what is in the heart of others. Ask how I can help? Be of assistance and support? It is not about me but us . Since February 2021, I have been hosting Transformation Tables to help others change themselves, their world and impact those around them. The purpose of the transformation tables is to help build awareness of values and align our actions with our values. We focus on six values – hope, listening, valuing every person, multiplication, integrity, and forgiveness. Our values impact our actions, attitude, and beliefs. We must be conscientious of our values and purposeful in our actions. My tables are part of the Change Your World movement launched by John C. Maxwell. Every person can be a difference and make a difference. You must look within yourself, identify your purpose and cause, and take action to be impactful and significant. I am a member of the John Maxwell Team (JMT). A team that values every person believing that every person can make a difference and be a difference. To make a difference, mankind must unite and build communities—unifications results in fostering change and transformation. John F.
