When life throws us hardships, we often ask why, but this question rarely receives an answer and can keep us stuck in our pain.

For many years, I have worked as a therapist and coach to help people heal from life's struggles. Most of my clients begin with the question, "Why did this happen?" or "Why must I go through this? Aren’t I a good person?" I often reply, "Is there an answer to that question that would make it okay?" Of course, there is nothing that makes the hardships in life okay or seem fair. As my spiritual awakening unfolded, I brought this question to spirit. The response is often given to me in the form of poetry, and I have included the poem here.

divine

I have learned from my mediumship that we enter this world with a plan perfectly created by our souls. Each one of us is on a journey of learning and expansion. I believe that our souls place in our path different ways to accomplish our learning. It is typically through the struggles of life that we experience the greatest potential of growth. Perhaps, the question is not why but rather how.

What if the truth

is the learning that occurred

is perfectly planned

fed as a mother to baby bird

for the transformation is set

way before your own birth

this is the truth

so why must you suffer you ask

in your worth?

For each one of you

does know what you are meant to do

it is ironic to see

you question your path and its roads

for they have been set before you

as powerful as the sea.

But human eyes do have blindfolds

covering and hiding your truth

and it is easy to become lost,

and it is easy to suffer great cost

with searching outside

as the belief this is where your path does reside...

But the greatest truth to be known

is your truth is always grown

deep inside of you

in your soul—

this is the truth...

It is empowering to stop asking, Why and begin to ask, How can I grow from this?

We cannot move backward and change what has already occurred in our lives. But we can learn and heal. We are all survivors. Yes, no matter what our reaction to the events in our lives, we are survivors. Our magnificent souls hold our personal truths, plans, and destiny. It is difficult to give up control over our own destiny, and we always have our free will. It is empowering to believe we have our souls right there, steering us towards our greatest opportunity of learning. Life’s struggles remind us we can survive more than we ever thought. Hardship often ignites our resilience, compassion for others, and a desire to help.

How clever it would be

to be able to return

to when you were a baby

and see what is your path

and what is your destination

imagine if you did have

all of this information?

We tell you with joy

this knowledge is always at hand

your truth no matter

what is encased in your plan

held in your own treasure chest

which lives in your soul;

you may find it right now

or wait until you grow old.

For the timing is yours

to set and follow its pace

and is ignited with joy

curiosity, excitement, and grace...

Perhaps the saying, ‘The truth lies within, is a divine truth.

We survive and grow because of the support and guidance from our souls. Our souls are our true selvesnot our thoughts, not what others say about us, not what we have endured. Rather, our true selves are our light within, helping us grow and expand our ability to love, care for, and comfort others. Sometimes, we learn to do this through the pain. Each struggle presents to us an opportunity to grow. We can either remain stuck in pain, or we can look inside ourselves and begin to recognize our strength and the survivor that lies within. Struggles often bring huge opportunities for growth, including forgiveness and seeing ourselves in this survivor's light. As you continue your growth and healing journey, perhaps this belief that we can use our traumas, struggles, loss, and hardships to grow will help you and empower you to see yourself in a more expansive and positive way.

It is true

all that you need

is the desire to know

and truth you will receive

and witness yourself grow

into the magnificent being

you—yes—you already are.

For all that you need

resides attached to your heart

connected to your soul

and one with the great source;

just step onto this path

and do not change course.

For today you have been told

what your soul already knows

your truth is quite beautiful,

it sparkles and glows,

so believe in yourself,

believe in your grace,

believe in your power,

believe in your love,

believe in your truth,

for today you have been told.
