- C-Level – Case Study
Written by: Roderick Mason, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. A case study showing the benefits of C-Level Executives/Professionals and them receiving coaching or peer groups. C-Level Executives play a strategic role in a firm; they hold high positions and significantly influence company-wide choices. A C-Level Executive (also known as a C-Suite Executive) is in charge of an entire department or business units, such as Marketing, Finance, or Information Technology. Many corporate executives and CEOs experience loneliness at the top and seek help from business coaching. Executives frequently believe that they are accountable for all major decisions. However, they may not always have access to a board of directors or an independent group of colleagues to rely on. Those who have anyone to turn to wonder if the information they receive is biased or has an agenda-whether their peers have the experience of being of high service. It is a potent combination that produces excellent outcomes when CEOs have a coach they can rely on and a CEO peer advisory group. Business coaching is one of the most effective ways to expedite your company's growth, improve your leadership skills, and create a clear vision for your company's future, as well as a plan to get there. A business coach is an experienced executive who has worked as a CEO, senior executive, or business owner for many years. Your business coach should have professional mentoring training and follow a systematic framework for success. Because most business coaches recognize that personal issues can interfere with work performance and vice versa, they take a holistic approach to coaching and encourage clients to address any concerns. Business coaching may assist you in simplifying your thoughts, focusing your work, making full business decisions, and holding you accountable and on time for agreed-upon outcomes. Your business coach can also be a great source of encouragement, a reliable ally, and help you identify your blind spots, which are growth barriers that we all have but would rather not be aware of. Benefits of C-Level Executives: Data and analytics are readily available. Better visibility of your freight expenditures. Throughout the supply chain, including accounting, processes have been streamlined, and efficiencies have been boosted. Management of Cash Flow. Customer service has improved. The C-Level Executives: Chief Executive Officer This is a company's highest-ranking position. CEOs are in charge of all corporate operations and decisions, as well as the organization's performance. The CEO is responsible for all other C-suite executives. In some circumstances, the company's founder or co-founder acts as the CEO. Leading the development of the company's short- and long-term strategy. Chief Operating Officer COOs are in charge of ensuring that all business plans and strategies are carried out properly. The COO is usually the CEO's second-in-command. They should have strong leadership abilities, business acumen, and the ability to manage, lead, and supervise a multidisciplinary workforce Strategy: They must excel in strategic thinking, be open to new ideas, and have better ways of doing things. Chief Financial Officer A CFO is in charge of the company's finances. They're in order of long-term planning and risk assessments, financial reporting, and the company's overall financial health. CFOs must be creative, grasp best practices, and understand how to add value to the firm. The necessity for someone to balance the finances, calculate the numbers, and do vital routine jobs will always exist, but the CFO role is considerably more dynamic today. Chief Technology Officer CTOs are in charge of a company's tech stack, including researching and implementing new systems, supervising security, and establishing infrastructure. The phrase Chief Information Officer (CIO) is frequently used to refer to the same position. When a corporation has both job titles, the CTO is in charge of developing new products and features, while the CIO ensures that IT systems are functioning correctly. Chief Marketing Officer This person is in charge of developing and implementing a business model. Those techniques could revolve around digital marketing, advertising, product positioning, events, and email campaigns, depending on the company's industry and objectives. A C-level corporate leader in charge of activities in a company that involves producing, communicating, and delivering value-added solutions to consumers, clients, or business partners. Chief Human Resource Officers CHROs are in charge of all aspects of an organization's human resources. They define how the business employs, promotes, trains, and assesses its personnel. Long-term HR plans, such as succession planning and talent acquisition, are also managed by them. Case Study of Coaching for Behavior Change A senior executive at an international central bank was set to be promoted. However, his ability to get the best out of his team and his behavior in meetings were both questioned. He exhibited many of the qualities of a technological professional, despite his background as a chartered accountant. He was brilliant and quick-thinking, with an intelligent analytical approach to challenges. He appreciated the intellect of others and believed that if he consistently exhibited his own competency-even if it meant knocking others down- he would be highly ranked by his line supervisors. He was intolerant of those who thought more slowly than he did, one of his most significant flaws. As a result, more senior management, as well as members, were subjected to intolerance. He also had a problem with his line managers because he didn't see the need to report on his progress and expected them to trust him to get the job done. Coaching Influence He was able to identify the source of his sensitivity through coaching and understand its impact on his career. People appreciated his intellect, but they feared his sharpness, and his use of sarcasm caused distrust among his colleagues, he realized. He acquired a more thoughtful approach to others after six half-day, one-on-one coaching sessions over six months. He also took the time to thoroughly explain himself rather than assume that others understood, and his interpersonal and people management abilities had substantially improved. He was promoted and has maintained the improvements he made as a result of the coaching. Conclusion For the modern workplace, business coaching is the most effective method of behavior modification and employee performance. This is demonstrated by the fact that c-level executives have become increasingly educated and skilled throughout the years. Furthermore, there is an increasing emphasis on independence, innovation, and free thought, implying that team members are aware they have something valuable to give that could bring a valuable perspective. Therefore, coaching should be implemented in the majority of businesses for these reasons. Recommendations Coaching in the workplace can help your team form better ties. When team members feel more at ease with their leaders, they will be readier to seek assistance when problems emerge. Employees will feel more involved if you develop more intentional relationships with them through coaching. In addition, working with others enhanced employee motivation, according to a Stanford University study. Bonding with team members can also catalyze greater possibilities for positive feedback and communication. Want to learn more from Roderick? - We Want It All, We Want It Now
Written by: Andrew Cowie, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. WE live in an age of instant gratification. Everything about the modern world is designed to raise our expectations of immediate fulfilment of every desire. The advent of the Internet and Smart technology has fuelled this phenomenon, leading us to believe that every product or service should be at our immediate beck and call. Twenty years ago, if we wanted to buy something, we would have to go out to the shops to source it. Now we can do so without even leaving the comfort of our armchairs. Our groceries can be ordered online and delivered to our door. Any film, song or book is no more than a mouse-click away. In many cases it isn’t even necessary to buy physical products anymore – much of it is available On Demand through our Smart TVs or streaming devices. We can communicate with friends by text, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. We can even video-call them via Skype, Facetime or Zoom. Robot cleaners vacuum our floors while we put our feet up, the lighting and heating in our homes can be controlled by remote control or voice command. We can conduct much of our day-to-day business without even leaving our beds. Such technology has brought many conveniences. You could argue that we’ve never had it so good. Yesterday’s sci-fi is today’s reality. So why are so many people stressed out and unhappy? The downside of this need for instant gratification is that we are becoming increasingly impatient and unwilling to wait for anything. Remember back to when you were a kid, how the excitement would build throughout December in the run-up to Christmas? The eager anticipation of wondering what treasures were contained within the brightly wrapped parcels beneath the Christmas tree? The exhilarating excitement of Christmas morning and the pay-off of finally getting to tear the packages open in a manic frenzy? Anyone who was ever tempted to sneak a look at one or more of their presents prior to Christmas Day will know the sense of ultimate disappointment which came with spoiling the surprise. By cheating and peeking in advance, all we succeeded in doing was depriving ourselves of the thrill of Christmas morning and robbing the day of much of its sense of wonder and mystery. Because a big part of the magic of Christmas lies in the anticipation and in not knowing what the parcels contain. Nowadays entire boxsets of our favourite TV shows are available to stream online, meaning that you go can go straight from watching one episode to the next in a marathon binge. How much more exciting was it back in the days when a soap opera or serial ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger and you had to wait an entire week at least to find out what happened next? Back in 1980, a worldwide television audience of 350 million viewers was kept in suspense over an entire summer, waiting to learn the answer to the question Who Shot JR? Would this iconic and much-imitated storyline from the soap opera Dallas have had anything like the same impact if viewers had been able to instantly access the next episode On Demand? Or if the identity of the killer had been spoilered online? I would suggest not. This storyline effectively created the concept of the end-of-season cliffhanger – now a staple of TV drama – and it was the fact that audiences were forced to wait months to find out the identity of the shooter which created such a frenzy of worldwide speculation and anticipation. Delayed gratification provides us with a bigger buzz, because we’ve had to wait for the pay-off, meaning that we’re far more likely to appreciate the prize and savour it for a longer period. By contrast, the problem with instant gratification is that it leaves us constantly wanting more. Nothing is ever quite enough. You’ll always be chasing the next product, the next model, the next iPhone, the next car, the next job or the next episode of a TV show. We’re living in a binge culture and it’s stripping life of the magic which comes from waiting, hoping, wanting and anticipating. It’s a form of drug addiction, the drugs in question being the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Serotonin is often known as “the happiness chemical” and is strongly linked to mood levels. It’s the neurotransmitter stimulated by anti-depressant drugs known as SSRIs – Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, whereas people with higher levels tend to be happier. Dopamine is the chemical which affects concentration, sleep and memory. Your body releases dopamine after you’ve achieved a goal, so it plays an important part in maintaining motivation because your body knows that it will be flooded with dopamine if it succeeds in its objective. Both serotonin and dopamine therefore play an important part in the body’s recognition of pleasure and pain, reward and punishment. The body learns that success will be rewarded by the release of higher levels of these feel-good chemicals, whilst failure will not. The science behind this takes on considerable importance within the context of our modern culture of instant gratification. One of the biggest problems with any form of addiction is that the more you’re exposed to the stimulus, the greater the quantity that will be required in future to achieve the same effect. For example, when you have your first taste of alcohol, it doesn’t take much to get you drunk very quickly. But as your body becomes habituated to the effects over time, your resistance grows and it will take more and more drinks to get you to that “happy place”. This is every bit as true when it comes to our addiction to internal chemicals, such as serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters are stimulated by factors such as social acceptance. Here’s the problem – the digital age has turned a natural human response mechanism into a serious addiction. Nowadays we spend increasing amounts of time wired into social media, posting our every move on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and judging our own popularity and status by the number and nature of responses we receive. People become so driven by the need to be popular – and the need to be perceived by others as popular – that they accumulate hundreds of Facebook friends, many of whom they barely know, if at all, just to boost their social standing. Each time somebody “Likes” one of our social media posts, it feeds into the pleasure/reward section of our brain and results in a release of serotonin, giving us a little mini-high. Our social media interactions become a barometer of our social standing and, consequently, a measure of our happiness. Here’s the problem though… because we’re essentially dealing with a drug addiction, it takes greater and greater quantities of serotonin to achieve the same ‘hit’ each time. So each picture you post on Facebook has to receive more “Likes” than the previous one in order for you to get the same level of buzz. If you don’t achieve that, then symptoms such as self-doubt and paranoia begin to seep in. Is my popularity decreasing? Don’t people like me anymore? Have I done something wrong? It might sound funny but it’s essentially true and we’re living in a culture in which many people – particularly the younger generation – have developed a dependency on the validation they receive on social media to the extent that they can’t feel happy without it. Their brains are overstimulated by constant exposure to electronic devices which they carry with them 24/7 and they are so hopelessly addicted to serotonin and dopamine that they are constantly craving the approval of peers and strangers alike just to get their next hit. Another downside of this reliance on technology is that proper face-to-face contact is becoming a rarity, with people spending ever greater periods of time glued to their phones, tablets and laptops. The dinner table chat which so many of us grew up with is increasingly becoming a thing of the past as many choose to spend their mealtimes scrolling through their emails and social media. We’re not communicating like we used to. People are becoming isolated, many don’t know or speak to their next-door neighbours and we console ourselves through immersion in an online world which, in truth, is but a pale digital facsimile of the real thing. So what’s the answer? Put simply we need to switch off, unplug ourselves from electronic devices and reconnect with the physical world and with each other. Of course, I’m not suggesting we dispense with technology entirely. Smart devices and social media serve many useful purposes and have been a Godsend in keeping us connected with loved ones throughout the Coronavirus pandemic. But we must break our addiction to them, to learn when and how to switch off, in order to reclaim our lives and halt this spiral of dependency. We need to halt the relentless pursuit of external approval and learn that true happiness comes from within. There are many healthy ways to release happiness chemicals into our body through practices such as meditation, mindfulness and physical exercise – practices which are not determined by our subjective perceptions of whether or not other people like us. Learning to be comfortable with who and what we are will foster a much deeper and more lasting sense of wellbeing than any than number of Facebook “Likes” or Twitter followers could ever do. For starters, try creating a tech-free zone within your home – a designated space of comfort and calm where you can relax and unwind, free from online distractions, messages and notifications. It could be a conservatory, a summer house, your bedroom or even the bathroom. It doesn’t matter where as long as it’s a sanctuary where phones and other devices are left at the door. The bedroom is a particularly important no-go zone for electronic appliances, not least because the blue light emitted by phones and tablets suppresses the production of melatonin – the chemical that regulates sleep. - Choosing Love Over Fear
Written by: Patricia Renovato, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. The opposite of fear is love, not courage. Courage is the path you have to take to get back to love. How would you live today if all the limitations imposed by fear were removed? Are you able to imagine a life led by curiosity? We are taught to be afraid early in childhood. It starts with the gentle “be careful” from Mom, the bedtime story that suggests that we should be afraid of the dark and it spans to how we are disciplined. Most humans succumb to containing children by instilling fear. There are significant conscious and subconscious consequences to this approach. Slowly, we tell children that their world has to be gated, their actions need to be measured and even their thoughts need to be restricted. Everyone responds to these guidelines differently, some like to make loud statements through their fashion choices while decide to act out their frustrations. Of course, these are specific reactions and there are so many more interpretations in between. The point is that the infliction of fear impacts every individual in early development because children accept that what they are being told is the truth. It’s only in adulthood that questions arise as people get more exposed to different ideas and experiences that conflict with what they’ve been taught. Even as adults we suffer from the confinements of fear. At work, we are led by fear and consequence. We lock every box we get inside of (our cars, our rooms, our homes). Whether you are conscious of it or not, fear is your shadow. It tells you what to eat, what to drink, and how often you should brush your teeth. It’s the voice inside your head that makes you question your every move and gets you anxious about the future. What would it be like to live with the freedom of a 2-year-old? I wonder this myself and I’m intrigued to dive deep into this question. I find it difficult to identify all the ways that I’m inhibited subconsciously. I’m aware of the negative talk track that plays in my head. But how can I go deeper into my subconscious and extract the root cause of these negative loops? What does it look like to live without limiting beliefs; about myself and the world? And how am I limiting myself? Am I using all my senses to experience the moment? These questions led me to journal and meditation to help me find clarity. For me, this process took a few days. And then I started to wonder; now that my purview is not restricted, what new possibilities become available to me? This idea excites me. I developed a 4 step process to help identify and resolve limiting beliefs. This process is iterative because most likely you have many limiting beliefs, some of which are deep-rooted and may take several attempts to demystify. It's important to be patient with yourself, to stay curious, and not judge how or why you carry these limiting beliefs around with you. Step 1: Identify Write a list of your limiting beliefs and then decide which one you want to work through right now. Run through this list twice, at separate sittings. During the first sitting, write down the limiting beliefs that are obvious to you. In the second sitting, think about the limiting beliefs that may be seeded in your subconscious. An example: the conscious limiting belief is that life is hard and the subconscious belief is that you’re not deserving; thus making life hard for you. Step 2: Understand Find the root cause. You have to peel all the layers of your WHY. Why do you believe what you believe and what are all the ways it shows up in your life? Step 3: Rationalize Break down the limitation until you no longer identify with it. You can process this through meditation, journalizing, or speaking with someone. Step 4: Release it Once you have gone through the first 3 steps, you will reach a point where you are able to release your limitation. It will no longer be part of you and you will no longer associate yourself with it. This process can be quick or lengthy, it all depends on how long you’ve been carrying this limiting belief around and how it’s impacted your life. You can apply this process to all your limiting beliefs. And as you process these feelings, you will gain new awareness and develop a new perspective. If you want to learn how to implement these ideas and be coached by me, you can email me at truepassioncompany@gmail.com. - Why You Need To Work On Your Family Tree To Finally Be Successful And Financially Free
Written by: Viviana Di Leo, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. How your family tree is stopping you from your success and financial freedom and why you need to work on this. This subject has become mind-blowing for me, we talk about being in the present and we have to go back to healing the past to enjoy our present. I was a bit doubtful when I first connected to this back in 2015 and sure I was not as connected and spiritual as I am now in my life. So, let’s say I was looking for a solution to all the family drama and repeated patterns without knowing this would change my life, my family, and hundreds of people more. Today this is a subject many people are talking about and have started to use more because of the powerful and immediate shifts that the person can have. As it accesses the subconscious mind and heals at the core. What is creating this block to your success or freedom? We know now that our patterns and blocks come from our subconscious mind that is what makes us navigate life in the way we are doing. If our subconscious mind picked on the first 7 years of our life programs of scarcity, fear, failure then we will be conditioned in life to keep following these patterns. Our subconscious is conditioned by the environment, the family, the culture, and inside all of this is our ancestors. If they believed that things require effort that life is to live paycheck after paycheck you will have this conditioning inside you deeply rooted. This is why I tell my clients either you repeat or repair your family. When they repair, they find all these walls they need to break, which are called invisible loyalties, that come from beliefs created in the subconscious mind. When I was explained that I was in my grandmother’s womb too, as the eggs were created when she was in her mom’s womb and those same eggs for example, that were in your mother’s womb, she was holding that life before you came. So, you are actually absorbing the traumas, the perceptions, and the programs and patterns that came before you. So, a really great place to start to try to figure out your ancestral money blocks and success conditioning is looking back at what your parents or caregivers, were saying about money and success. What was the generation before that saying about money and really looking at the lineage with the mindset of am I either repairing or repeating? When we look at the dates, we can understand from whom you can be picking up the programs even if you haven’t known them. What I invite you is to be aware that your beliefs have a connection with your family and even if you want to ignore them, they are there and will come back, until you are ready to work on them. Today I invite you to understand your own money and success stories and heal them, you have to go beyond your feelings related to money and abundance and investigate your ancestral patterns and history by going through your family tree, sorting old family pictures, and getting in touch with your elderly relatives. Here are a few scenarios that can help you: If you have an irrational fear of losing all your money suddenly, it might be possible that your ancestors lost their wealth and fortune If you have a tendency of holding on to every dollar bill longer and tighter than you should, then it’s possible that some of your ancestors had a miserly attitude towards money. If you are overgenerous with your money or end up spending more than you should, then it might be possible that some of your ancestors were extravagant and unscrupulous with their money and ended up losing their fortune or becoming dependent on their caregivers at old age. In this way, these ancestral patterns largely shape our mindsets, habits, and behaviors in a negative way or a positive way. The key to all the challenges you can be facing is to go through this three-step process: Become aware of your repeated pattern, either with a journal or through coaching or therapies. Accept that you want to change that repeated pattern, with acceptance you have the power to choose differently. Take action to heal this. Rituals or writing letters or having conversations with the family and if this is not possible Biodecoding your family tree to uncover what is stopping you. If you want to improve your life know that you have to decide and make a choice, the choice of saying goodbye to living in a constant unhealthy relationship with yourself. So, how do I know I released a pattern? You feel peace of mind even through challenging times. If a situation triggers you are aware and can shift the way you face it. You stop doing and redoing things with no end. You live a more conscious and aware life feeling more fulfilled. You stop wanting to find the mistakes behind something that did not work. Choose to release those patterns and deciding how you want to live from now on. It is super rewarding to see my clients close those subconscious patterns and finally feel free, peaceful, and enjoy life. Every day you have the opportunity to make something different for your life, know yourself so you can enjoy your life to the fullest and not staying in the fear preventing you from a successful and abundant life. - The Truth, My Truth And Your Truth
Written by: Manoj Gopalani, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Four steps to find a way to move forward when stuck in arguments/debates… It is routine for people to look at the same set of facts but still come to their own conclusions. A couple has an argument on something and then someone decides that enough is enough and they need to separate. A person survives through a tough challenge in life, some say it is GOD’s grace, some say it is the medicine. The facts (situation) are the same for all the parties, but it is the interpretation which is influenced by the mindset which matters... In other words: The argument for the couple is the same as both participated in it – this is “The Truth/The Event”. My belief, my interpretations of the argument – makes it “My Truth” Your belief, your interpretations of the argument – makes it “Your Truth” Most of the debate is about these interpretations. The fights / the breakups are about the perceived interpretations of an event. Four steps to move forward: Have FAITH in each other, in other words, STOP being judgmental – BE Genuine. Take a moment and understand the mindset of the other person. Ask open-ended questions so that the interpretation is understood and what led to that interpretation. Usually, it is something that happened some time back and the person is holding on to it. Work on healing the wounds. It may take time, but unless healing happens things will never resolve. Agree on a mutual approach way to keep things moving forward. Invest to build positive memories. Be consistent and truthful in your efforts. Life is too short to live with grudges/pain. - Lead To Action
Written by: Lea Gerlock , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. As we approach Fall, 2021, are you ready to stretch your muscles of confidence? Stretching, metaphorically speaking, for Mother Nature, is a very natural occurrence as we transition from Summer to Fall. It’s that time of year when we realize, where did the summer go when we really should be asking ourselves where did the time go? We learn to adapt to each new season and I know for me, when a new season approaches, I am always contemplating how to more effectively utilize my time. Fears and anxieties may pop up and derail my motivation, but staying the course takes creative muscle-flexing. This is also true for many women and men as we love the comfort of our highly empowered emotions to combat our fears and anxieties. Simply stated, being comfortable is a great thing; I kind of enjoy being comfortable, however, if we are not giving ourselves the opportunity to lead with confidence, we tend to waste our time, and this creates a “negative” normal pattern. Patterns as we know, are habitual practices on a day-to-day basis and for many, an hour-by-hour basis. We can’t bulletproof our confidence by not cycling our opportunities and changing our behaviors. Time will not stop; lost time is a tragedy. As Benjamin Franklin once said, “The lost time is never found again.” Yes; we all have the same 24 hours; you cannot make up time, you have to make the time. When in the throws of effectively managing your time in a creative and productive manner, your stress and anxiety will be greatly reduced! You will have the courage and confidence to complete your tasks or to-do-list and have a better appreciation of how you spend and manage your time. Three major signs you need to reconsider your time management skills: 1. You are not using an effective method to utilize your time. I always say, there is an app for that however, keep it simple. Write it down; have a time log. (I encourage you to keep a 7-day time log if you are in the never-ending loop of “I don’t have time.” Keeping a 7-day time log is not the most pleasant thing to do. It is an economical way to view your time as money; and not the other way around, meaning if you are busy and not being productive, your time log will specifically show where you can easily and effectively improve your time management.) 2. Your To-Do-List Resembles a Written Manuscript! If you keep adding tasks to complete on your to-do list and not actually completing them, this could be an overwhelming and unwelcome problem for you personally and for your business. If this may be you, try to break your list down: client; personal; business management, etc. 3. Your block-out time is spent scrolling. Oh, dare I admit this - I know, to some degree, we are all guilty of this! Specifically blocking out time to complete a task or work on a project is a time which is well spent, less stress, and for many, can put you ahead of your completion time for a project = more time, more freedom, and more money - LESS stress! Lead yourself to take action. We only complicate things when we are not willing to strategically balance and change our outlook on how we view our time because the easiest thing to say is to complain that we don’t have enough time. This unfortunately is more of a natural reaction or a way of escaping and validating the reasons for not completing a task. We literally deny ourselves our true potential. Tangible Tools are right at your fingertips! Even with Fall right around the corner, remember, time waits for no one! Change does not come easy (only for Mother Nature!) - 5 Ideas To Start Building Your Influence Online In Only 60 Minutes Per Week
Written by: Natasha Zo, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Have you heard that modern-day currency is attention? Influence equals dollars and those with a loyal following prove it again and again by demanding the advertising check which way exceeds those of the most glamorous magazines. Did you know that for example, Ariana Grande and Christiano Ronaldo charge nearly a million USD for ads in their Instagram? And the good news is that the world of influence is no longer exclusive to celebrities, politicians, and sports stars. People are turning to their favorite social media influencers whenever they want to learn something new, make a purchasing decision, or need advice on a certain topic. And that’s your cue as an expert! I strongly believe influence currency is here to stay, and therefore, this is an investment that would pay off big. Even if all you got to invest is one hour per week: 1. Choose a social media platform and post content on a consistent basis First, select at least one major social media platform and post content consistently. Many would advise finding out where your core audience spends most of their time, however, my advice is - go with the platform that you already know best. You save so much time on learning new features. Personally, I’m an Instagram addict, I naturally go there when I have a break. But since I have chosen Insta as my core platform, this time is never wasted: I learn trends, engage with my potential audience, and get a reminder to post. The time it takes: 15 - 30 minutes, or no additional time at all if you start using time you already spent on a platform to post and engage, not just scroll! 2. Collaborate with others in your niche One of the best ways to build influence is to collaborate with others and companies who are in the same industry as you or cater to a similar audience or target market. Reach out to micro and macro-influencers and ask if they’d be willing to participate in a product giveaway, host a live conversation or an interview together, or anything that could promote both of your businesses. For example, if you are a fitness influencer who focuses on helping moms get fit after childbirth. You could try to partner up with a nutritionist who specializes in teaching expectant mothers how to eat healthy during their pregnancy. This type of cross-promotion would introduce your brand to the other person’s loyal followers who may be interested in buying your products or services. The time it takes: 15 - 30 minutes. 3. Generate publicity for your brand by contributing to media outlets Many blogs, newspapers, and magazines need a steady stream of content to stay relevant. One of the best-kept secrets is that you can write for them and generate free publicity for your business all at the same time! Simply search for the most widely circulated media platforms in your industry and contact them to see if they allow outside contributors. If they accept you into the program, you’ll gain access to their community of loyal followers. The Brainz magazine contributor program allows people to contribute written content on various important topics including leadership, lifestyle, innovation, and performance. The time it takes: from 10 to 30 minutes. 4. Invest in high-quality graphics and visuals In 2021 even cats get professional photoshoots not to mention someone, who, just like you is trying to build their online presence. If you are just at the beginning of your career, it might be hard to justify investing in a professional photoshoot; however, this truly is an investment that would pay off in the long run. Think about it like this: You know that meeting someone new in person our brain automatically looks for “trust” signals - a friendly smile, a professional-looking outfit, open gestures. Well, in the online world leads and potential customers are going to first “meet” you through your visuals. Just one professional photoshoot will last you a long time as photos can be reused from your website to your social media and different product kits. There is another issue that is stopping many new entrepreneurs from investing in a brand shoot. If you have never been in front of a camera, it might be quite challenging to overcome the awkward feelings, I get it. Remember, that a good photographer will not only “click” the button. Their job is also to make you feel relaxed and comfortable - because that’s when the best pictures come out! Ask their previous clients for how the shoot felt and look not only for photographers with beautiful portfolios but for fun personalities who would make you feel comfortable and maybe laugh a little. The time it takes: 2-3 hours, but only once! 5. Practice Giving When You Don’t Expect Anything in Return What are the brands, events, and people in your life that you absolutely love? I love sharing about a local charity in Bali that I got introduced to on my last visit. I love hearing and sharing about the projects my friends are doing, and yes, I’ve also tagged a certain ice cream shop way more than once on my social media. Sure, influencers are paid to review things and places and you might not be there yet. It does not mean you should avoid doing that until someone starts offering money for your opinion. Love something? Talk about it and tag them. It might be that place where you buy doughnuts in the morning or a great podcast you enjoy listening to. They may reciprocate, and if it’s a big brand you may get a boost. One of my clients has an Instagram account that is about 100 times the size of mine. Every time my company delivers a great result for them, I share it on my Insta-story (see point 3). She never fails to share it back and apart from those extra views that come from her repost, I just get that warm fuzzy feeling inside. However, don’t get discouraged if you don’t get a mention in return. Sharing what you love helps your followers see you as a well-rounded, real person. Remember, people connect with real people, not polished images. The time it takes: from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. Do you have ideas on how to build your brand online in under an hour per week? - Key Steps To Plan Ahead – And A Bit Further
Written by: Heidi Tyler, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. "To make all arrangements or preparations that one will or might find necessary or useful in advance of something happening." [1] The more time and effort we put into planning ahead, the greater chance we have of success. It’s certainly true in the work environment. Highly successful businesses deliver their products and services using a variety of stringent methods and tools which ensure rigour and effort in the right place, at the right time. It doesn’t mean every product or project is successful, but it does mean they have the tracking and measurements in place to determine what is working and what is not so they can change direction and hopefully stay in business. Before a business starts planning, many put in place Vision & Mission Statements which give the long-term view to guide where they are heading and why they exist. Planning our own personal life using these techniques may well bring more success. Here are some simple steps we can take to get ourselves forging ahead into a life well planned. 1. Break our life down into individual areas. In turn, we decide what each area will cover. The following are simply ideas to use, expand or create our own. Health – food, exercise Education – learning, growth Personal wellbeing – emotions/feelings, character traits, beliefs, self Spiritual – religion, previous lives, current life, life lived, end of life, next life, connection, god/higher self Relationships – family, friends, children, peers Work & career – current/future business or job Social – holidays, community, social gatherings, connection, interaction Financial – income, expenditure, savings, stability, wealth creation Love – self, partner, family, friends, others 2. Define a Vision for each area of our life What is wrong or missing in each of these areas? What do we specifically want to fix/change? Why do we want to fix/change it? What will it look like when it is fixed/changed? How can we make it even more inspirational, exciting & worthwhile? Let nothing get in our way or stop us from creating what we want it to be. What will each area of our life look like when we’ve succeeded? Now is not the time for limitations. Create a mental or physical picture. Let it run through our minds like a movie. This is where we are going. This is what our well-planned life is going to be. What will our future look like? 3. Define your Mission for each area of your life What is our purpose in each area of our life? Use imagination and curiosity to explore. Think back to childhood. What spark was left behind? Keep asking WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY until it becomes clear. 4. Create goals Define a goal for each area we are going to work on. Don’t create too many goals. Just enough to be able to manage effectively. Make the goal(s) specific, measurable, achievable, reviewable, and timely, but add on a bit extra too: make them inspirational and emotional. This will really help propel us forward. “Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. ” - Tony Robbins. 5. Alternatives Get clear on what the alternatives are for any of goals including not achieving them. Will achieving them bring pain or pleasure? You would think that achieving them would bring pleasure, but that’s not always the case. Not achieving may keep us in an emotional safe place, even though we don’t want to be there. Fear of the unknown can be a show-stopper for making progress. Understanding where we are is a first step to making progress or getting the right help. Is there an easier or quicker way to achieve the same result? 6. Identify resources List all of the resources needed to achieve the goal. What needs to be sourced? Who can assist? What resources already exist/are in place (e.g. skills)? Tangible Items already in place (e.g. domains, apps, equipment) 7. Establish Stages* & Action Steps Break the goal down into easier to achieve chunks (stages). Write down the action steps needed to achieve each chunk (stage). Take action to get closer to achieving the goal. Create a reward for achieving each chunk (stage). Think through what will prevent completing the actions. How can these be solved ahead of time? *AKA milestones 8. Measure for success Write out what the measure for success will be for each goal: lost xx in weight by xx/xx/xx go to the gym 3 times a week learn a new language by xx/xx/xx ring family every week to touch base meditate every morning/evening/day seek promotion by xx/xx/xx increase career income by xx/xx/xx save xxx by xx/xx/xx 9. Create tracking and evaluation tools There are many tracking tools on the market and many for free. Research and find one that is suitable. If in doubt, start simple with pen and paper. If a goal isn’t working, look at why and make changes. Change the goal or replace it with a new one. 10. Celebrate Celebrate achieving the goal or vision. Do something that is in line with the outcome (rather than counter-productive). A step closer to that Vision. 11. Review Take time to look back and see the journey. What needs to change, be adjusted. Create new goals to plug any gaps. Refine goals to adjust the journey. Stop goals that just aren’t working. What if we’ve already arrived? GO BACK TO STEP 9. Create a Gift Of Absolute Love that brings joy into your life. Shine your light so the whole world can see. - Heidi Tyler Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, and visit my website for more info! - Why Apply Aspects Of Lean Start-Up Methodology To Your Life – Even If You’re Not Building A Start-Up
Written by: Alix Rufas, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Perhaps you’re already doing this inadvertently, and it’s serving you. I personally wasn’t aware I was applying Lean Start-Up-like ways of working to my life a few years ago. I was doing this rather unconsciously. After spending 1.5 years developing a start-up idea within a start-up accelerator in the Netherlands, I quit everything and started a personal growth journey, working with mentors, coaches, travelling the world for 2 years as a digital nomad. During this location-independent 2 year period, I started 2 personal growth businesses. I noticed things speeding up for the better in my life, in different areas in parallel, all at once. I embraced the momentum fully, and loved it. And as I documented my journey on social media and developed my businesses, I realised something. I was applying some of the notions I had *bathed in* at the start-up accelerator - to my own personal and business growth. Even though I was not building a start-up anymore. So, what is the Lean Start-up Methodology? The Lean Start-up Methodology is a method of lean and rapid iteration that start-ups use, especially in their early stages of development, to figure out what works and what doesn’t, fast and efficiently. Until they reach product-market fit and market validation and are able to scale, at which point they stop being a start-up. Some Lean Start-up Methodology characteristics potentially relevant as we speak of applying the method to our life: It favors experimentation over elaborate planning (source: Harvard Business Review). It favors putting things out there early so that it gives you customer information earlier. The earlier you learn if customers actually want what you’re building, the earlier you can optimize further. You can also discover key elements you couldn’t have predicted before testing. It favors tangible external/customer feedback over one’s own personal assumptions coming from our own biases. It favors iterative project development over traditional corporate “let’s plan everything upfront” project development. It favors starting small and simple, to think in terms of “minimum viable products”, to resist the urge to plan or develop “more than is absolutely necessary.” [source: Lean Startup, by Eric Ries]. Applying the Lean Start-up ways of working to your life (personal and/or professional), even if you’re not building a start-up: (Just to be clear: this is NOT about taking the methodology as it is and copy-pasting it into your life. It is rather -from my experience of what has been most beneficial about applying to your life some of the elements that come with this operational approach to growth). Get started about new projects/endeavours in the easiest, simplest way by taking action in the world (outside of your head) so you can get external data/validation effectively and speed up efficient growth. Test your ideas in the real world as soon as you can, in the leanest way. Reach out to someone and schedule that coffee chat. Host your first test workshop with 4 people. Get out of your head and stop overthinking for eternity. Be practical. Have concrete, achievable goals. Break them down into small, actionable steps, and take action daily/weekly towards them. Stop over-engineering things. Trying to write the perfect business plan for your abstract idea that hasn’t been tested in the real world yet - goes against the Lean Start-up way. Trying to have the perfect script for that online Masterclass or online course before even having people who’ve signed up and paid you for it is a similar growth hijack. Work in layers and small, concrete achievable steps. Write that article draft one day, the next day, with a fresh mind, revise it, and so on. Same if you want to build your website: 1h each day. Work in layers without losing perspective and sharpness in the process. Perfect doesn’t exist. Be in action mode and forward-momentum. By testing things, talking to people, setting things up… you’re getting valuable feedback from the outside world that speeds your growth. You’re also building up your confidence because now, you’re doing something about your ideas, goals, and dreams. Learn to keep moving without taking anything personally, looking at any type of results you get as feedback or data points that only serve you to optimize things further in the future. Favor High vs, Low-impact moves. Prioritize on the daily the most crucial action for your most efficient growth and remove as much fluff or noise from your life as possible. You can apply the above notions in different areas of life for lean development. Be it organizing a vacation getaway with friends, or planning a social event, or figuring out what your dream business might be, or even growing it (without it necessarily being a start-up). If you’d like to experiment with the Lean Start-up ways of operating in your life or think this really could serve you in developing your dream business, come message me on Instagram, I’ve got a digital Business School that just opened for enrollment. - Are You One Of The Irresponsible 80%?
Written by: Stefan Eng, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. A few weeks ago created a poll and published it in my group in Linkedin. The groups consists of +48 000 Travel Professionals from all over the world. There was one single question and four alternatives to choose from as a response. I must say that the answers I’ve got back surprised me. Obviously, it was not a scientific poll in any way. However, it gave me and You an indication on how we are thinking and acting around travel. And it scares me! The question raised was; “Honestly, when making your reservations, how often are your choices based on environmentally friendly factors?” The available responses that the audience could choose from was quite straight forward and the following; a. Never b. Looking but not vital c. Looking and vital d. Vital and decisive to go Let us stop there for a second! Moment of truth - Ask yourself, what would your response have been? Let me first be honest to you all and say that I answered “Never” and so did another 57 % of the respondents. “Looking but not vital” was the choice made by 25 % which in the end means that 82% of us does not care at all or care just a little but with no proactive action made. There is something around climate change on the news almost everyday nowadays. And especially over the last couple of months. Serious and fatal flooding is reported from central Europe and China, Enormous fires in US and especially Oregon. (Everyone is already used to see the reports of fire in Australia each year – and the Flooding in Bangladesh.) But news media referring to the latest climate report released by United Nations a couple of days ago. Scary reading as one of the Secretary General, António Guterres, statements is ”Code red for humanity”. It seems like the governments around the globe are stuck in bureaucracy and very little actions are being made to achieve the goals of CO2 Emissions set up in climate meetings in both Paris and London. And it just takes too long time. French Revolution Perhaps we need a new French Revolution – peaceful but still a revolution. That starts with You and Me changing behavior when planning and projecting our travels. Take the responsibility we should have taken years ago. And start looking for alternatives that actually makes a different. But also in starting to raise CO2 requirements, to travel with certain airlines, stay at certain hotels and other travel related services. Don’t get me wrong here, I am totally in favor of travel and In all forms. When experiencing the world, with is variations in people, culture, languages, food etc. we are all becoming richer as a human beings. However, as we are now in ”Code Red” for our species and we have to be proactive in how we think and behave. So what can we do, You and I? Let’s look at a few things that we can do; If you think it’s silly, then I recommend you to talk to someone who lived in Paradise in the US before the fire burnt the village to the grounds. Scroll down to see an interactive map of the fire behaviour in Paradise and its surroundings. The Journey - Obvious to all, but still Travel by Rail if you can Or in fact a car could be better if many passengers are travelling together If you need to fly: Pick the Aircraft with the lowest CO2 Emission. How can you know which one it is? You are probably very used to Google a lot for other information. Spend some time to do the same finding the best alternative for the climate too. Don’t buy anything onboard This way you make a statement that it is totally unnecessary for the Airlines to bring anything to sell. Ask them to open a specific store at the airports instead. Push your government to open for “Tax-Free” shopping for travellers coming back home. Some countries, like Norway have this already since many many years. You and I will probably bring souvenirs anyway. The Stay - Maybee it is time to look for hotels with a feature list reflecting their view on environment! No TV Do you really need a television? Hotel should upgrade their WIFI to highest standards in speed, allowance and security. No Minibar? Why not take a walk to the nearest store. The variation and price is of course much better. No AC Is air-condition really valid in all locations? And if it is, Make sure they have a limitation in usage. Hotel should never give out two Card Keys - One of them is many times left back in the room to keep the AC going. No Pool. Would it not be enough with a shower instead? Hotel Restaurants with local kitchen only Nothing should be transported longer than from the nearest city. So it’s about time you try something new Escalators only for disabled persons You probably need the training using the stairs anyway I am sure that the above and other measures will be seen in reality in the future. The questions is how far away this future is? We have a long way to go – So it’s about time we start walking. The climate and many other topics will be addressed in the new site travellersvoice.net where You and Your fellow travellers for instance can raise or answer questions. - Becoming Our Own Village
Written by: Kelly L. McCarthy, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. As infants, we needed to rely on others for our needs to be met. Whether it was a physical need or an emotional need did not matter. We were incapable of deciphering what we were experiencing at any given moment so expectedly needed support from those that did understand. Helpless and unaware as to anything other than what our caretakers thought was best for us whether be it parents, grandparents, foster parents or any other guardian of our wellbeing. We were taken care of best they could with what they knew. As toddlers, we began to explore our surroundings wanting nothing more than to try new things on our own. We were persistent and often frustrated due to lack of understanding or being told we couldn’t when often we felt we could. We did not have the emotional intelligence at that stage in our life to comprehend or navigate our feelings or the experiences we were having, we just knew we were having them. We still required guidance from others to assist us in confirming that our needs were being met even when unsure as to what they were. Everything from what to wear, what to eat, how to do things, how not to do things created an understanding of only what we learned to be right and wrong through our filtered experiences. We would battle against certain things and agree with ease to others. During this time we were learning, we were expanding our boundaries and growing emotionally while beliefs were being instilled within us as we still relied on others for answers and confirmations. As pre-teens and teenagers, we observe from a totally different perspective believing we know what is right for us, hearing our own thoughts more loudly, testing our boundaries, our beliefs, society's beliefs, and pushing back against opinions and ideas sometimes just for the sake of pushing. Not necessarily because we think they are wrong but more because we are trying to find what is right for us. We are expected to understand more, do more, and be more after years of having all our needs met without the most important asset needed to survive on our own. How to listen to and learn to trust our own intuition. At this stage there is still so much uncertainty, so much chaos of thought vs feeling vs reaction that confirmation is still often required for us to feel connected, to understand. We are still seeking answers to our questions, sometimes uncertain of the actual question itself. We still have needs but at this age they can become more confusing as to what they are. Do we still want or need physical touch to help us navigate our sadness? Do we still want or need to hug people upon saying hello? Do we really want or need to have our parents kiss us and say I love you in front of our friends? Do we want or need others' opinions before making a decision? Do they really know what’s best for us? Are we capable at this age to start becoming our own village? Ask yourself how many times you requested for your parents to stop doing something that made you uncomfortable such as one of the examples above only for them to say “no” or make an excuse as to why they still would thus creating doubt in your mind as to if what you needed or wanted was worthy. At 18 we are considered adults. We are independent, supposedly able to make adult decisions concerning our lives yet still seek confirmation from trusted people of what that looks like due to the years of being told no, the years of feeling one way but being told to feel another. Wanting to say something yet holding our tongue because someone else felt it wasn’t appropriate for us to say something. Looking for outside validation of who we are supposed to be as we were never given the full freedom to figure it out on our own. Our needs were so met that they left us unmet. We aimlessly wander into our adult lives continuously looking for approval, for feedback, for answers to our still unanswered questions, our thoughts racing with no real understanding of how to slow them down or better yet stop them completely. We call upon our parents, our friends, we seek out mentors and in some cases spiritual gurus hoping for the holy grail of all embodied enlightenment only to find out what we should have been taught from birth. Go Within. This is what it means to become your own village. To understand that having support and confirmation from others is helpful and feels good but only until you are able to be in stillness with yourself can you find the answers meant for you. No one knows you but you. Others have thoughts, opinions, and ideas but those are not yours and are often derived from personal experiences meant for them. They should never be the defining answer to any of your questions. Sit in stillness, ask the question, hear the answer and trust it. Know that the first thought you have is always the right one and anything after that usually derives from fear. Learning to connect with yourself on a deeper level is how you learn to become your own village. We can’t wait for others to come rescue us from ourselves, or cheer our latest victory, hold our hand during the tough spots, or navigate our next move. Sometimes YOU is all YOU have and knowing this can actually deepen your relationship to yourself. When we rely on others we forget that we have everything we already need within us. Learning to trust our own power and inner wisdom in place of always looking on the outside for support creates the most important connection we can have….the one with ourselves. McCarthy, Executive Contributor Brainz Magazine Kelly McCarthy is an expert in understanding energetic frequencies and how they impact the world, whether consciously or unconsciously. As a former restaurant owner and mother of two, she was caught in the frantic energy of always trying to stay one step ahead, struggling to juggle a personal and professional life with the need to slow down. After a hospital stay the clinical world would call a full body breakdown, Kelly saw it as a breakthrough where she learned from a variety of modalities the power of harnessing Universal Energy. As a spiritual leader in the holistic community, she was called to create her business, Beyond Words N Wisdom, sharing her knowledge through speaking, teaching, classes, and energy sessions. With clarity and compassion, her clients learn to identify and use their intentional energetic footprint to leave legacies that matter.
