What if those relentless skin flare-ups aren’t signs that your body is failing you but messages trying to guide you back to balance? After 35 years of living with eczema, I discovered a powerful truth: your skin isn’t broken. It’s speaking. And when we finally learn to listen, everything begins to change.

Skin isn’t just skin

For decades, I did everything "right."

  • The elimination diets.

  • The steroid creams.

  • The gut protocols.

  • The acupuncture.

  • Even energy healing.

Some brought temporary relief, but the rashes kept returning, louder each time.

That’s when I stopped trying to fix my skin and started asking what it was trying to tell me.

It’s speaking in the language of inflammation, rashes, dryness, breakouts, and flare-ups. It’s trying to get your attention.

But most of us have only been taught to silence the message:

  • Suppress it.

  • Moisturize it.

  • Medicate it.

  • Manage it.

Rarely are we asked to listen.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the skin is considered an extension of your internal organs and emotions. I talk more about this connection in my article “What do your skin, gut, and lungs have in common? More than you think!

Each flare-up is a signal, a flare in the dark, revealing an imbalance beneath the surface.

Your skin is not just your largest organ. It’s your loudest communicator.

A new way to see your symptoms

Instead of seeing my skin as a battleground, I began to see it as a barometer, a reflection of deeper imbalances in my energy, emotions, and internal systems.

In the Five Elements framework from Traditional Chinese Medicine:

  • Anger congests the Liver (Wood) and manifests as rashes, heat, and inflammation.

  • Grief constrains the Lungs (Metal), which also govern the skin.

  • Worry weakens the Spleen (Earth), leading to sluggish digestion and poor repair.

  • Excess heat in the Heart (Fire) can disturb circulation and sleep, showing up as redness, restlessness, or night itching.

  • Fear and overwhelm deplete the Kidneys (Water), affecting adrenal function and skin hydration, often linked with dryness, fatigue, and skin thinning.

This wasn’t woo. It was pattern recognition, grounded in an ancient diagnostic system that has stood the test of time. I also explore this in “Can your emotions be causing your skin, gut, and respiratory issues?

The shift that changed everything

You’re told to “fix your gut,” “try this cream,” “avoid that food,” “take this pill.”

And when it doesn’t work?

You start to wonder if you’re the problem.

But the day I stopped asking, “How do I stop this itch?” and started asking, “What is my body trying to express?”, everything changed.

I began to sleep again. The inflammation subsided. And most importantly, I no longer felt at war with my own body.

My eczema didn’t vanish overnight, but some moments were nothing short of extraordinary.

I remember one flare-up after gardening, my skin was inflamed, itchy, hot, and angry. But instead of spiraling into fear, I tuned in, reassured my body, and refused to panic. Within hours, the redness faded. By the next morning, it was as if nothing had happened.

And I’ve witnessed similar shifts in others. One client with over 30 years of psoriasis saw her skin begin to shed overnight after just one session, and within two months, her skin was completely clear, the itch gone.

These are the moments that remind me:

When we work with the body, not against it, healing doesn’t have to take forever.

Healing isn’t linear, it’s elemental

I believe healing is available to all of us.

But it doesn’t happen in a straight line.

And it doesn’t happen by outsourcing our power.

It happens when we turn inward.

When we stop trying to fix the skin and instead understand what it’s revealing.

When we start working with the body, not against it.

I created a process called The RELEASE Method™, a 4-week group experience for women ready to heal skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis from the inside out.

It doesn’t start with creams or cleansers.

It starts with curiosity.

With learning the energetic and emotional language of your symptoms.

With remembering that your body is wise.

This program is not about band-aids.

It’s not about perfection.

It’s about partnership, with your body, your emotions, and your energy.

And when women come to me, tired of patching over flare-ups and desperate for real change, this is the first thing I tell them:

Your skin is not the problem.

It’s the messenger.

And it’s time we started listening.
