There is a moment every entrepreneur encounters, a moment where something feels so heavy and so overwhelming that you wonder if this will be the thing that breaks you. But the truth I heard recently reframed everything for me. “The thing that may break you in your business or personal life might be the biggest part of your game. Your problem is where the profit is.” That one sentence hit me with clarity I couldn’t ignore.

Silhouette of a person holding a target on a mountain peak at sunrise. Vibrant sky with orange and pink hues, symbolizing achievement.

Because when you think about the moments that shaped you the most, the moments that changed the trajectory of your business, your mindset, and your leadership, they were never the easy ones. They were the ones who demanded growth. Challenges are the catalysts. Discomfort is the teacher. And pressure is the signal that you’re moving into a bigger mission.

When you look back at your own defining moments, wasn’t it the obstacle that created the leap? Wasn’t it the hardship that built the skill? Wasn’t it the struggle that unlocked the next level? That’s when I realized something essential. When a challenge arrives, it means I’m taking the right risks. It means I’m growing. It means I’m expanding beyond the version of myself who was comfortable.

In other words, if you’re experiencing problems, congratulations, you’re playing big. If everything is calm, quiet, and easy, that’s not peace. That’s the fishbowl. My coach uses this analogy often, and it has stuck with me. A fishbowl looks safe, predictable, and familiar. It has just enough water to survive but never enough to thrive. And the walls, those walls aren’t built from danger. They’re built from other people’s fears, doubts, and opinions about what you “should” do.

The sea, the limitless ocean of opportunity, is where your potential actually lives. But most people will never jump. It’s not because they lack ambition. It’s because the leap requires discomfort, uncertainty, and the willingness to outgrow people who want you to stay small. A mentor once gave me an example I’ll never forget. “Sometimes the thing you’re holding onto is the exact thing blocking you from what’s meant for you.”

Staying where it’s safe, familiar, and predictable can keep you from the opportunities, expansion, and success waiting for you on the other side of discomfort. Because sometimes your “fishbowl” feels comfortable, but it’s actually what’s keeping you from the ocean. Here’s what I’ve learned running companies, leading teams, raising a family, coaching entrepreneurs, and building a life I’m proud of.

“Every breakthrough I’ve ever had showed up first as resistance.”

  • A challenge forced me to expand my capacity.

  • A setback revealed the system that needed strengthening.

  • A moment of tension exposed the boundary I hadn’t set yet.

  • A period of stagnation demanded a new idea.

  • A fear illuminated the exact area where my next level of skill lived.

Every difficulty carried a blueprint, emotional, mental, strategic, or financial, for the next stage of growth. And this isn’t about optimism or thinking positively. This is about strategy. It’s about using challenge as data, as direction, as confirmation you’re moving toward the work you’re meant to be doing.

Because the moment I shifted my mindset from “Why is this happening to me?” to “What breakthrough is attached to this?” everything changed. Suddenly, I wasn’t bracing myself for problems, I was using them as expansion cues, as the exact GPS markers telling me where the next level lives.

“If you’re facing problems regularly, it means you’re not playing small, you’re playing big.”

Implementation + Support = Momentum

None of this works alone. You need support. You need mentorship. You need people in your corner who have walked through fire and can help you navigate yours. And you need implementation, not just inspiration. You need to act, adjust, try again, and stay consistent when it feels uncomfortable.

Because discomfort is not a sign you’re failing. It’s a sign you’re entering new territory. And do you know what’s on the other side of new territory? Profit. Growth. Identity expansion. Mastery. And a version of you that’s stronger, sharper, and more qualified to handle the opportunities ahead.

The message I want you to hear today is simple. Your problems are not detours. They are entry points. They are invitations to the next phase of your business and your life. They are proof that you’re not playing small, you’re playing big.

If you aren’t facing challenges every so often, you’re not expanding. You’re staying safe in the fishbowl. But if you are facing them, good. You’re out in the ocean. And that’s where the real growth, the real resilience, and the real profit are formed.

So the next time a challenge hits, remember this. You’re not breaking. You’re becoming. And that problem is the beginning of your next breakthrough.
