Adobe has long been the standard for creative professionals, but a new contender is shaking up the industry. Affinity, the design software suite by Serif, now offers its tools free forever, positioning itself as a serious rival to Adobe’s paid Creative Cloud.

The suite Affinity Photo, Designer, and Publisher mirrors Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign in both design and functionality. It supports PSD files, advanced editing, and professional color spaces, while using less system memory and offering faster performance in some benchmarks.
The biggest difference lies in pricing. Adobe’s subscription model costs hundreds per year, while Affinity’s free and one-time purchase options are opening professional-grade design to a broader audience. Analysts see this as a direct challenge to Adobe’s dominance, especially among freelancers, small businesses, and entrepreneurs.
Though Adobe still leads in cloud integration and enterprise workflows, Affinity’s accessible model could shift market expectations, signaling a new era of creative software that prioritizes freedom and affordability.
