Change is the only constant. Whether we are ready or not, here it comes. From one change to the next, we can begin to feel the pressure, restriction, and resistance to what may come. Building resilience through change helps us withstand discomfort and lead ourselves beyond adaptability. In this article, we shift from resistance toward resilience using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a powerful mind-body tool that eases worry, clears emotional responses, and brings new intentions into the subconscious mind.

Two people meditate indoors on cushions with hands in mudras. Sunlight filters through large windows, creating a peaceful ambiance.

The only constant: Change

Let’s take an inventory of how many changes we are exposed to:

  • When the leaves change.

  • When you take a different way home.

  • When you find a new favorite song.

  • When you get a haircut.

  • How you now know how to write, not scribble.

  • How your skin cells alter every 2 to 3 weeks.

  • How your taste buds have matured.

The list could go on.

The cycle of change

The difference between the change you sign up for and the one that happens without your agreement is control. Where can you place your control within a life-altering situation? In your response, a magical pause instead of reacting. To slow down and become aware.

Here is my framework, awareness plus intention equals change in motion. Change in motion equals infinite opportunities. Infinite opportunities equal expansion and a new identity.

Applying this framework to a life-altering situation involves placing your awareness on what is occurring and attaching your intention to it. Practicing radical acceptance while reminding yourself, this is just for now. There is that loop and cycle of change.

Moving toward resilience

The shift from change happening to us to change happening for us begins in how we choose to define what change means to us. Change is a verb. A verb is what you do, it is simply to replace something with something else, something better. Resilience is being adaptable. Taking the perspective of, “What is this change doing for me?” moves you away from the fear of the unknown that arises with change.

Why EFT tapping supports transitions and change

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), or tapping, balances the energy system of the body to alleviate concerns by tapping on points of the body that are also used in acupuncture, the meridian lines. This practice supports many issues, and applying it to life transitions and change shifts the emotions of worry, doubt, fear, anxiousness, and disconnection. EFT tapping can reduce the symptoms while improving emotional resilience. This article notes seeing shifts after one session.

EFT tapping script for navigating change

Give yourself the space to breathe. Read quietly to yourself, or repeat out loud. Enjoy this tapping session.

  • Karate: I’ve been feeling worried with all these changes in my life. I’ve felt defeated, overwhelmed, misguided, and lost. I’ve despised how change happens to me. I’ve felt like there’s zero control. Changes happen, and I just don’t know how to navigate them. I just want to stay comfortable, change hasn’t been welcomed in many areas of my life. Even though I’ve had these thoughts, feelings, and emotions, I deeply and completely love, accept, and forgive myself.

  • Crown of Head: I am no longer afraid of change. The answer is that there is always something better, something greater, taking place. I am living for my highest good. The best possible outcome is here. Fear doesn’t serve me. Change doesn’t happen to me, change is for me. Living this life is exciting.

  • Eyebrow: Each shift is a possibility. I see every change that comes my way as an opportunity. I rise up.

  • Temple: I walk through open doors of opportunity with ease, with faith. Embracing the changes is effortless because I’m safe every step of the way. My journey only leads me to greatness.

  • Under eye: There is unwavering confidence within me. I hold the answers. The aligned opportunities are here. I am here for me. Anything that changes is simply my choice, my choice to expand.

  • Under nose: I’m excited. I create solutions with ease. My eyes are open to seeing myself, my limitless potential, my gifts.

  • Crease of chin: I don’t fight with my destiny. I accept it and all of its magic.

  • Collarbones: I’ve expanded beyond adaptability. I do not conform, I lead. I choose.

  • Rib: Change is the only constant. I’m in love with surprise, with newness, with myself.

  • Wrist: I am stabilized through change. I bring intention to each move I make. I walk alongside my changes, I’m on the move.

  • Hold: Deep breath in. Hand over heart, give yourself a hug.

Take a moment to connect with how you’re feeling and how this felt for you.

Going beyond readiness

Moving away from resistance to change is to practice embracing it in those little ways. When you notice the seasons shift, when you take a new way home, when you find a new favorite song, those are the pieces of evidence. Change is the only constant. Choosing to walk alongside it brings you into the control that you thought it took from you.
