Q: Why did you decide to start your business?

A: I have an academic and professional interest in finance and economics. And I'm just quirky. It seemed like a great opportunity to tie my eclectic interests together in a low-key way.

Q: What is something unique about your brand that sets you apart from your competition?

A: Typically, when you see mismatched socks on the market, the socks literally mirror each other. Individual socks in the Sticks Collection complement each other with similar color palettes, but they are distinct. We put energy into curating each pair.

Q: Describe a situation where you faced failure and the lesson you learned from it.

A: In baseball, people often say that you fail more so than you win. And there are a lot of baseball games during the season! So, the life lesson is that you pick yourself back up again and again. Period.

Q: How do you incorporate new strategies/tactics in your business?

A: We like to launch a new collection and do something fun to celebrate a change in seasons or a special place. That's something of interest for baseball season, for example.

Q: Where did your passion for retail come from?

A: I have a passion for comfort -- comfortable socks, and comfortable clothes. Plus, I love warm blankets and pillows. I try to share that passion with others who enjoy a bit of style with their comfort.

Q: Where did the idea for mismatched socks come from?

A: It's just the essence of who I am. When I was little we used to do what my paternal grandmother called a sock derby to match socks, and I failed miserably. It was easier to wear mismatched socks. It worked for me and saved trying to complete the derby. That was a lot of work!

Q: What is a problem you have identified in e-commerce?

A: We committed to launch the business with free shipping in the continental United States. I'm not sure I would call it a problem, but our challenge is figuring out how to package the product, keep it at a reasonable price point *and* ship it for free in the continental United States. I hope that we can continue to do that.

Q: Looking back on the last five years of your career, what has been the highlight?

A: The highlight has been the learning edge: figuring out how to manage school and baseball, and trying to launch the business. I'm doing a better job as time goes on.

Q: How do you think your background has impacted the success of your business?

A: I come from a family with eclectic interests and talents. My interests have always been all over the map. When you embrace the belief that diverse interests can be complementary, then you can see connections everywhere. I think that helps me think outside of the box.

Q: What is something you do regularly that you recommend to others in your field?

A: I run ideas by my parents - seriously. They always give me an honest opinion - sometimes too honest. However, always having a trusted sounding board is useful.

Q: What motivates you to continue doing what you do?

A: No one can define who you are. Only you know where you've been and where you are going.

Q: Tell us about your next endeavor.

A: I have an interest in the outdoors, and I support the management of 40 acres of woodland in Ohio. I make a nod to it in a few pairs of socks in the Sticks Collection, but I'd love to integrate and build out that work in the near future.

Chad Readey's journey is a testament to the power of combining diverse interests and embracing setbacks as stepping stones to success. His unique approach to mismatched socks and his commitment to exploring new horizons show that entrepreneurship is as much about passion and perseverance as it is about financial acumen. We look forward to seeing how their future endeavors continue to blend their love for finance, the outdoors, and the world of quirky socks.
