The weight of the world can easily get you down, and the spark of joy, the sense of humour, and the laughter seem like a distant memory. It happens to all of us at times. With all the methods, tools, and skills we possess and learn, it feels like we should be able to manage and snap out of it easily. But in reality, it is not always that simple.

Checking in with yourself, reconnecting with your joy, and remembering why you do what you do can sometimes feel out of reach. That is when the hole you dig yourself into gets bigger and bigger until life becomes a serious matter.


I believe we are meant to enjoy this life. Why else would we be here in the first place? Even when things look dark and dull, we have a willing spirit bursting to show us a playful route. All it needs is for us to let go of self-control.


The road to serious living is paved with should have, could have, would have, if only, what if.

The road to joyful living is paved with laughter, joy, play, dance, and songs, including out of tune singing and whistling.


Everyone can say “ha ha ha ha,” even when they are at their lowest.


Having a daily laughter practice makes all the difference in setting yourself up for the day. Ideally, 10 to 15 minutes is an excellent practice to change your biochemistry and shift serious energy. However, if you cannot start with 10 to 15 minutes of laughter, perhaps you can give yourself a little one to two minutes of chuckling. That, in itself, is a great start to your daily laughter practice.


When you make it too serious and too big a task, chances are you will stop doing it when life’s typical mornings get in the way.


Make it bite sized to start!


And get your people on board with it too. You will soon notice the ripple effect.
