When clients come to see me, they are often looking for change, seeking to access something they know they need but can’t quite place. When you start inner healing, it is common to experience a tug, a feeling of unease, an inner rising, and a calling from within to shed what no longer serves you.

What is inner healing?

Inner healing is a journey back to your true self. It is a practice that involves exploring and healing your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and values while gaining a deeper understanding of your motivations. This journey often begins with feelings of resentment, fatigue, anger, sadness, and a deep knowing that something more awaits you. Whether it stems from generational beliefs or learned habits and behaviors developed in response to trauma, it’s essential to recognize that change requires understanding and consistent practice.

What can inner healing feel like?

Although you may feel a deep desire to change or do things differently, it’s normal to also experience a sense of betrayal and confusion. Feeling conflicted is a natural part of the inner healing process. These feelings can arise from energetic ropes that, when attached, pull you back to old habits and ways of being. For example, you might feel the desire to make a decision based on your true feelings. However, as you consider how this decision might differ from or upset someone close to you, guilt and shame may stop you in your tracks. In this moment, you are instinctively stepping forward in your direction but encountering the halting tug of fear, guilt, and shame. Feelings of frustration and resentment may arise as you experience the inner conflict of wanting to follow your own path while feeling restricted by fear or people-pleasing tendencies. What we don’t always realize is that we have the choice and ability to unravel and detach the rope. This rope may be so tightly tied, or may have been with us since childhood, that it feels impossible to disconnect. Yet, we always have the power to untie it and set ourselves free.

This process can feel both empowering and frightening. You may detach from the rope only to pick it up again as you learn to feel safe and navigate life without it. However, each time you choose to release it, your intention becomes part of the healing process. Eventually, with practice, you’ll be ready to leave the rope ashore, gaining a profound sense of freedom, peace, and empowerment. Working with someone who can support your healing journey can be incredibly helpful, providing guidance and encouragement as you navigate the path to your true self.

4 signs you are ready for inner healing

  1. You have a feeling of being held back. You feel unable to express your desires and emotions, leading to frustration, sadness, and anger. Yet, there is a deep desire within you to be different.

  2. You are aware of your reactivity to others and want to change. You often feel triggered by others and are dissatisfied with your responses.

  3. Your energy is low, and you may physically feel tension, pain, or heaviness in your body without a physiological diagnosis.

  4. You are having difficulty forming and maintaining satisfying relationships.

Start your journey today

As you begin to tap into your inner desires and embark on the healing voyage, remember that riding the waves is part of the journey. Some parts of the process are short, while others may feel like they last a lifetime. Some moments will be stormy, and others smooth. Healing is never linear. Some days will feel invigorating, empowering, happy, and successful, while others may carry feelings of sadness, despair, frustration, and anger. All these emotions are important to experience and illuminate the path to discovering what you truly want, ultimately guiding you toward change. Combining mindfulness and Reiki practices can be particularly helpful in navigating the journey ahead. Observing how you feel without judgment is one of the key anchors to healing.
