- Inspired or Jealous?
Written by: Elena Herrera, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Everyone’s life seems so fruitful while mine is constant hard work – I’m so jealous!! All your online entrepreneur “friends” always report amazing wins while you’re struggling to get noticed and see impactful results. Your BFF just found the love of her life while you can’t even find a decent match on Tinder. And everyone you know seems to be able to afford all the nice things they want while you have yet to create the financial freedom you want. You are excited for them, but inside you are steaming with jealousy. I remembered a few years ago, I found myself in a very vulnerable place of jealousy. I had just moved to NYC to pursue my dreams. I had plans of starting a family while building a successful career. However, I ended up buried in a slow self-growth process, merely doing shadow work for the next three years. I quickly realized that this was not the time for me to manifest anything until I worked through my internal pain, struggles, and fears. I was utterly alone and isolated. I had a hard time meeting new people. And I couldn’t see the light at the end of my tunnel. This was a sensitive time for me because I saw others manifesting their dreams into reality while I felt completely stuck in my life. I couldn't understand why it was easy for them to realize their goals while I couldn't even seem to accomplish simple things like making a new friend. I was doing so much internal work, but I saw little change in my life. It all made me feel “less than,” undeserving, and not good enough. Yes, I was jealous of others – very often. I learned then to accept that jealousy is okay. Jealousy is a natural human emotion. However, it does make us look and feel bad. We judge it so harshly and try to avoid it at all costs. The second jealousy arises within us. We want to hide it, push it away, or bury it inside because we feel horrible about it. But why? If jealousy is natural and part of what makes us human, why do we feel strongly against it? Because we are conditioned from a very young age to see jealousy as a very negative trait. It’s just not a socially acceptable justification for us to feel or display envy– it’s even coined “the green-eyed monster.” Plus, there is a secondary emotion that accompanies jealousy – GUILT! Most likely, you feel guilty for being jealous of others– am I right? So, what do you usually do? You most likely try to put a positive spin on it through some affirmation that helps you “get rid of” jealousy – in turn, getting rid of your guilt. However, deep down, you still feel jealous and guilty!! Let’s be honest. Until you learn to embrace your current experience (i.e., by accepting your shadows, in this case, jealousy), you cannot move forward. Instead of trying to get rid of your jealousy, allow yourself to have it. Bring your attention to it. Feel it. What is your jealousy trying to communicate to you? Every emotion has a purpose. So, what do you think is behind your jealousy? I’d say – DESIRE! Yes, your jealousy usually points out a desire. When you look at others and feel jealous, recognize that it is not about them. It is about you and where you need to get in touch with your desire. The reason your jealousy is triggered is that the thing you desire is important to you to obtain. When you give space to your desire and truly feel it, your jealousy transforms. It becomes an opportunity for you to bring your attention back to yourself to focus on manifesting your desire. If you don't get in touch with your desire, you will continue staying in your jealousy, depriving yourself of alignment with your true path. Here are 3 simple steps to shift out of jealousy and into alignment: 1. Be Grateful for Your Experience When feeling jealous of the success of others, thank them for pointing out to you your trigger. This has created a connection point to help you recognize what you truly want. 2. Witness Your Desire Jealousy is a validation of your desire. When you understand your feelings, you are standing in your power and truth. You are not beating yourself up for it, nor are you justifying or explaining your desire. 3. Dream Big Don't underestimate yourself. If you want something strongly, it indicates it is meant for you. Otherwise, you wouldn't desire it. Chances are, you already have what you need to attain your dreams. Focus on your desire. Let it inspire your actions. If you struggle with your emotions, whether it is jealousy or something else, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I will help you get in touch with your deeper truth, create emotional awareness, and align with your authentic self so you can focus on your success instead of others. - Making the Other Person win, will Make you win – 5 Steps Mutual win Approach
Written by: Joël Vuadens-Chan, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. This is the question that I often ask during Executive Coaching sessions whenever a conflictual situation is being discussed. Usually, the answer goes like this “But I don’t want them to win, I want to win!” That’s called a zero-sum win; for one person to win, the other one must lose. What if there would be a way that both can win? The problem with making somebody lose is that it doesn’t build relationships and loyalty. It rather makes them want to take their revenge and make you pay the price and get you to lose next time. In a transactional relationship, you might win a battle, baut you end up losing the war. What if both could win? This is how to build mutual value, alliance, and true loyalty that we are all seeking to achieve. Let us call it “mutual win.” It looks like a “win-win,” but it even goes further. But how does it work? 1. Find out what’s important for them. “Every single day, we are faced with the task of persuading others. And every single day, we face resistance,” Bob Burg To make them win, you need to know more about their goal and objectives. What is instrumental to their success? What would they like to achieve? What is in their heart? What particularly hurt them? What do they hope to see? You can’t help noticing that these points are not necessarily tactical, logical, or even what we can consider as a negotiation. It is a true discovery of what the other person is about. This is important to be able to progress to the next step. Sometimes, if you are like me, you are not keen to ask a lot of questions. Maybe because you don’t want to bother the other person or simply because you prefer to talk about yourself. “Self-disclosure is extra rewarding, People were even willing to forgo money in order to talk about themselves.” – Harvard Neuroscientist Diana Tamir By taking an interest in the other person, we are using empathy. This is one of the most powerful ways of building relationships. Simply said, "You should like people to listen to you, understand you or recognize you. So does everybody else." In a study done with medical doctors by Beth Huntington and Nettie Kuhn in 2003, they demonstrated that when using listening skills, empathy and apologies, Doctors were able to reduce the complaints and legal actions of their patients in case of medical errors. As you can see, when you first take a step forward towards the other person, the other person comes towards you. “You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” Dale Carnegie 2. Support to them in area(s) of priority Once you find out about their priorities, you can then offer your support and discuss with them how you can contribute to that success. When discussing issues with his team, after thinking only one second, one of my coachees immediately say “this is what I am going to do. I will try doing this,” and started a list of actions. You see, when you try and fail with people repeatedly, you will lose credibility. Taking the time foremost to understand what is important for them is vital. But it takes time and is quick and easy! Indeed, it is so, because sometimes they don’t know by themselves. By using deep coaching questions (see Coaching FAQ), you can help discover their own answers. The next step is to support them in an area of importance for them, but that is not a priority for you. Why is that? By first touching a person’s heart, we can connect with them. A connection will then enable us to move to a real alliance. There is an important lesson that I had to learn in my entrepreneurial journey; it is the fact that I can’t win people to my vision unless it is also theirs. Especially if you are like me, you can be good at sharing a vision and attracting people to your goal, yet you will find out that it doesn’t last long. The only way to build a strong and long-term partnership is to connect you to their vision. What I now do, is that, before sharing my vision, I first ask them about theirs. If there is nothing in common, I simply ask them what I can do to support them, and I wish them well. “Effective leaders know that you first have to touch people’s hearts before you ask them for a hand. That is the Law of Connection.” – John C. Maxwell 3. Look for synergies and collaborations As you have established the relationships and demonstrated that you are trustable and willing to add value to them, you can now discuss how you can both create a mutual value partnership and build synergies. Start by finding common grounds. What are the points that are priorities for both of you? Is there a topic or a goal that fulfills priority goals or objectives for you and the other person? What you discover will enable both of you to build a strong partnership. I might even say that a successful, long-term relationship, and that’s the goal of any business, is only possible when the alignment of both parties is present. 4. You will eventually win. Whenever I ask a coachee to consider making the other party win, they experience positive results, most of the time already at the first conversation. In fact, such harmonious relationships focused on business mutual value bring more business value. Why? Because they bring along with them: Mutual value that brings trust. Trust that saves time. Saved time that brings more financial return. Trust bringing less tension and conflict, and therefore reduced burn-out. Reduced incidence of burn-out that saves a lot of costs. 5. Everything positive in the long run comes from relationships. When I look back at the successes that I experienced in my life, both private and professional life, I noticed that they all come from one source: relationships. In my marriage and family, it is obvious. However, in our work or business life, we often forget that behind each success, most of the time, there is or are people who contributed to our success through their thoughts, discussions, encouragements, or work. Let me guess; you didn’t succeed because you won, AGAINST THEM, but because you won WITH THEM. Take some time to reflect on these collaborations and take the time to thank them for their contribution. In a world where mobbing, abuses, and prejudice seem to be the norm, it is not only idealistic to let other people win, but it makes complete sense in terms of business values. Are you ready to see some long-term collaborations and have the satisfaction of building trusting and mutually beneficial relationships by letting the other person win? “You can’t win an argument. You can’t because if you lose it, you lose it; and if you win it, you lose it.” – Dale Carnegie Disclaimer: This entire discussion precludes that people you are not interacting with are not abusers, agents of mobbing, sociopaths, or psychopaths in a clinical sense. How do I know that somebody is one of these? One of my coachees was telling me that a colleague he has conflicts with is a psychopath. I mentioned to him that normally only 2-4% of people are and encouraged him to use many of the advice that I shared above. At our next coaching session, he told me: "This guy is quite nice." "Really? Tell me more!" "Yes, we had a good discussion." "What did you do differently?" "I didn’t go as a bull, and I took the time to understand him." This experience taught me a lesson: The abuser is sometimes us, and we do it without being aware. However, if you have strong suspicions that somebody is a psychopath (see Psychopath: Meaning, Signs, and vs. Sociopath), you need to protect yourself, especially if you are close to the person (direct colleague, spouse, partner). - Love – 50 Years in the Making
Written by: Sue Palmer-Conn, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. It was the summer of 1971, the end of my first year at University. I’d got a summer job at Butlin’s Holiday Camp in Pwllheli, North Wales. I’d gone to Butlin’s as a child with my family. The Red Coats were my heroes and heroines. I’d always wanted to be a red coat. I got my chance that summer. I’d been a swimmer in my teens. It was an automatic extension to do life-saving exams. These allowed me to become a lifeguard at Butlin’s. What a great holiday job. Doing what I loved – sitting on a poolside all day. Mind, that’s not to say it was an easy job. Definitely not. Every day one of us would be pulling someone out of the water – a child who’d got out of their depth, a teenager who’d been showing off and hurt themselves doing something they shouldn’t do, even adults who’d had too much to drink, or gone in too soon after eating and got in trouble. Being a lifeguard meant that at night you were also a red coat. Ooh, me a red coat. Aunty Sue. Sometimes I’d be in the ballroom – thank goodness mum and dad sent me to ballroom dancing lessons. At other times I might be calling Bingo or watching the children in the children’s theatre. So, where does love come into it? Red Coats were a magnet for attention, sometimes unwanted. However, one of my fellow lifeguards, Bill, and I really hit it off. After a few weeks, we became a couple, and where ever you saw one of us, the other wouldn’t be far away. After work, we’d often go for a hot chocolate and doughnut before we’d go back to our respective chalets. Some nights we’d walk along the miniature railway track down to the beach and sit on the rocks talking, kissing, and cuddling. The summer sped by, far too fast. By the end of August, we were almost at the end of the summer season and the summer of romance. Mid-September came, and Bill was going off to University at the opposite side of the country to me. The night before Bill was leaving; we slept together for the first time. We were both rather inexperienced, and it wasn’t perfect, but it was beautiful. The next morning, I stood on the railway bridge waving until his mum’s car disappeared out of sight. Would I ever see him again? It was at a time before email, before mobile phones, before cheap travel. I remember crying for the next 24 hours and writing him a long letter. He never got it. His mum intercepted it and thought it ‘best’ that he concentrated on his studies as he’d messed up his exams the year before. Bill never knew how much I missed him, and I never knew whether I was just a memory to be forgotten. Eventually, the memory faded, but I never forgot. Who does forget their first time? I threw myself into my studies and had a good year at University. I was invited back to Butlin’s the following summer, but this time they wanted me to be a children’s red coat. It was fantastic. However, it was tinged with sadness because Bill didn’t go back because his university course included working in the industry for 3 months a year. I loved what I was doing, but somehow it wasn’t quite the same without Bill. I went back to University the following October facing final exams. That year, I was on the hall of residence committee. One of the jobs we had to do was to show the new freshers to their rooms. One of the new freshers, Nick, caught my eye and over the next few weeks, we became good friends. We sat together at dinners, and eventually, he asked me out. That year was my 21st birthday, and my parents had organized tickets for an event at the local army barracks – a fantastic night. I asked Nick if he wanted to go and, much to my surprise and delight, he agreed to go. That was the start of a beautiful relationship which lasted for nearly 30 years – 25 years married, two lovely sons, and lots of fabulous holidays. Jumping forward now to 1999, millennium eve. We went to a big party, but at 1130, Nick disappeared, saying his on-call beeper had gone off. Nick was a dentist. His practice was only about 200 meters away from the party, so I expected him back within a short time. Midnight came and went, and still no sign of him. I went to bed feeling very lonely. He eventually came back at about 2.30. I was asleep. The next morning, I and others from the party who had stayed over quizzed him about his non-appearance. He made excuses that he’d had to wait for the police to arrive to check the drugs cupboard, as the alarm had gone off in the police station. I was so trusting and gullible and believed him. Some of the others didn’t. I think they felt sorry for me. By the summer of 2000, it became apparent that he was seeing someone else. Earlier that year, because I was teaching at a university 50 miles away, we’d bought an apartment just around the corner, so I didn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn to drive every day. At that time, I thought about a secure, mature relationship we had to allow us to spend time apart. What I didn’t know was that Nick was spending at least one night a week away. I found out because I came home one night in the week in August thinking I’d surprise him. It certainly did. He wasn’t at home, but that wasn’t unusual as he was on a lot of committees. However, when he wasn’t home by 11, I called his phone. When he answered it, I knew something was wrong. I could hear a woman’s voice in the background. I challenged him, but of course, he denied it and made excuses. By Christmas, he’d moved out, and in January 2001, I filed for divorce, which was finalized in November that year. Fast forward now to January 2004, and I’d just arrived back from a conference in America. On a Sunday night, I went upstairs to my home office, switched on the computer, and without meaning to, I logged onto Friends Reunited. Something had drawn me to do it. On my profile, I’d written ‘old free and single.’ To my surprise, there was a message there – ‘hi-de-hi, how are you?’ Bill. OMG. I sent a light-hearted reply, ‘ho-de-ho, fancy you remembering me!’. I thought nothing more about it. I knew it had to be Bill from Butlins all those years ago as hi-de-hi and ho-de-ho were catchphrases from a TV spoof based on Butlins. On a Monday night, I went online again to see if there was another reply, but there was nothing on Friends Reunited. I was disappointed. But, MSN (a predecessor to the messenger) said Bill’s online. I logged on, and we started messaging each other, but Bill’s typing skills were rubbish. He’s a one-finger typist! By 1030pm I said, ‘this is painful, give me your phone number, and I’ll give you a call.’ We talked and talked, and when my alarm went off at 730 the next morning, I realized we’d talked all night. I had to get ready for work. We talked morning, noon, and night. It was as if my best friend had gone out for a paper and just come home. How could this be? We’d not seen or spoken to each other for 33 years, but magic was happening. On Thursday lunchtime, my secretary told me there was a delivery for me at the main reception. I went to see what it was. Everyone on the desk was grinning at me. There in the corner was a bouquet of 33 red roses with a note saying ‘You’re my first, my last, my everything. One for every year I’ve missed you, all my love always and forever, Bill’. All the women were saying how lovely. All the men were saying, don’t tell my wife! Bill is an accountant, so January is a horrendous month with tax returns, etc. We didn’t meet up face to face until Valentines' Day. We decided to meet up on the bridge at the old Butlins site where we’d last seen each other. It had become a caravan site. As it was his birthday the following day, we decided to make a weekend of it. Valentine’s Day was on a Saturday. Although the camp was closed, they were having an open weekend for prospective buyers. The day came, and I got there what I thought was early, but there was this very nervous-looking, handsome man standing on the bridge. He’d got there even earlier despite the fact he’d had to drive 5 hours to get there. When we got close enough, we both had tears in our eyes. It really was love at first sight. We threw our arms around each other and held each other for what seemed like ages. I couldn’t believe what was happening. I felt as if I’d come home. Bill felt the same. Before we left the camp, we’d not only bought a caravan for holidays, but Bill asked me to marry him! We had a beautiful weekend, exploring each other’s bodies, filling in all the gaps in our lives that we hadn’t already talked about. We went for long walks, explored places we’d been to all those years ago. Bill was coming back to my apartment for a few days. On the way home, we called in to see my mum. He asked her if she would mind if we got married. She was really touched that he’d asked her. When we got back to the apartment, it felt natural. I wasn’t nervous, and I felt so happy. My two sons came over during the week to meet Bill. He took them out for a drink and asked them if they would mind if he asked me to marry him, not that it would have made any difference really as they were in their twenties and fully independent, but he wanted to make sure they were happy. Our wedding in November that year was beautiful. It didn’t cost a lot, but we had everything we wanted. We got married in a beautiful Norman church in the pinewoods. The reception was in a local venue set in the trees. As we got out of the car, a flock of doves came home to roost. Was that a sign? At the end of the night, we all walked back to the house carrying leftover food and drink. The boys and their friends partied ‘til dawn, Bill and I left after a while to go to the airport to fly out to Egypt. We had a lovely honeymoon. The hotel was fantastic, right on the shores of the red sea. We swam, sailed, and went out on some fantastic trips one to Cairo where we saw the Tutankhamun exhibition. We stayed in the Hilton, where one of the bars had recreated the piano bar from Casablanca. Bill is a big film buff, especially old films, so he was in his element. Back in the hotel by the sea, we were sitting in the bar one evening when the singer stopped and gave Bill the microphone. I didn’t know what was happening. He sang to me the song ‘wonderful tonight.’ It gave me goosebumps. He’s got a tremendous voice, and everyone in the bar clapped and cheered. On the last evening, Bill had arranged for us to have the honeymoon suite. The bed was circular and 4 meters across. The hotel had put roses, chocolates, and champagne in the room. I felt like royalty. We’ve now been married for over 16 years. We’re still very much in love. Still hold hands wherever we go. Bill still sings to me. I can’t remember a time when I’ve felt so contented. In June, it will be 50 years since we met. We are going to celebrate our love back at the old holiday camp. Sadly, we no longer have our own caravan, but we’ve hired a luxury caravan and will go for long walks along the beach, and no doubt reminisces about the people we met all that time ago. I feel so blessed to have been given this second chance at love and pray that we live long enough to reach more milestones together. I love you, Bill. - Life Lessons from a Recovering Perfectionist
Written by: Jesi Carroll, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Tough love time. Remember when you used to throw the word “Perfectionist” around like a badge of honor as if it increased your value? But then somehow, it still debilitated you from your goals? You would set that bar so high, and just when you thought you could reach it, you placed it one notch higher to ensure you didn’t. Achievement isn’t really an achievement if it’s easy (or fun for that matter), right? For some reason, the insanity of doing that time and time again created the illusion you were progressing. But constant movement doesn’t always mean advancement. Remember when everything was to prove to others you deserved to do it? Exhausting, wasn’t it? Allowing every thought, opinion, and “truth” of another to become your comfort zone. Even reading their “truth” ahead of time like a psychic so you could beat them to the punch as to act accordingly and not step out of line. You wouldn’t dare express your independent thoughts differing from those around you. That would place you so far from your goal of acceptance and approval; it’s not even funny. You see, perfectionism has a tricky way of turning us away from ourselves. It slowly convinces us that we have a long way to go, so we remain striving. If only we knew life isn’t even about an outcome at all but about the journey on the way there... Yet on that journey, we decide we can’t trust ourselves, and we stop valuing our own opinion. We decide to stop asking how we feel and think because it “doesn’t matter” anymore anyway. What others deem as good enough becomes our compass too. Their bar becomes our bar, but now we don’t even control the height it goes. We’ve lost our way. But didn’t we just have a compass? Oh, it wasn’t mine? That’s right. Keep listening to them. They have the compass. They know the way. The cycle repeats, and every time it does, we move a little further away from ourselves and our inner knowing of what’s for us. Therefore, the path becomes windier and more confusing as we continue. Our intentions are kind, but the result is resisting freedom to live a life controlled by fear, and there is a way out. It’s simple and unconventional. Our consumer-driven world tells us it’s not enough, but this boring advice works. Breathe. Pause. Re-direct your focus back onto you. Know you aren’t a mind reader. You’re powerful, but so is free will. Control what you can control. Ask yourself questions. Be patient in receiving an answer. Know it’s on the way, in its perfect timing. Stop trying so hard and just be still. You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. That’s all you’ll ever need to know. Follow Jesi on Facebook , Instagram, Linkedin and visit her website . - Be Good to Yourself
Written by: Rita Hurry, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Looking out for yourself. You are a successful woman who exceeds expectations when it comes to your career, but when it comes to looking after yourself personally, this is where you may fall behind. You may be thinking, as long as things are moving in my career, everything is okay. But is it? Are you someone who dreads time alone with your own thoughts and prefers to be around others than being by yourself? Yes, it is important to be around others, but quality time with yourself ensuring you are doing ok is just as important. You are the foundation of your business. Yes, you are, and when you are not looking after the foundation, and it is not as strong as it could be, this will affect your business and every other area in your personal life. Unfortunately, many business owners/entrepreneurs feel that reaching burnout is the only sign they need to tell them when to take a break and when to ensure they are looking after themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. But this should never be the case. If you are waiting for burnout to be your indicator to look after the foundation of you, then you are doing yourself more damage than good. In fact, you are heading down the road of depression, mental health issues, and disease. Is this the way you want to go? Put Yourself First You have got to stop playing the game of putting yourself last. This does not serve you, and it does not serve those around you. You need to change the dynamics and start valuing who you are and ensuring that your health and wellbeing are the top priority. It is never selfish to put yourself first. It is important. When you are strong in your foundation, you are much more positive, proactive, and productive. Fear and anxiety are easily managed, and your health improves as a result. Yes, facing your fears when you are alone can be difficult, but you should not dread being on your own. You should enjoy those moments and give yourself the best no matter what. If you are struggling with something that happened in the past and cannot shake off those memories, you need to address them and refuse to let them rock the core of who you are. Looking after yourself is your number one task and will serve you in the long run. Being good to yourself keeps you strong even during the worst of storms and helps you to overcome all curveballs of life, no matter what they are. So, you have a choice. Do you risk it all due to a lack of care for yourself, or do you start making decisions that put you first? Which do you choose? Visit me on my Facebook , Instagram , Podcast , and w e bsite ! - Owning Your Divinity
Written by: Gabrielle Washington, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. When it comes to owning your divinity, you first have to remember that you are a divine being, and by doing this, you have to look inward! “You have the keys you need inside of you to create the life of your dreams” — G.W. Remember this when times get hard, remember this when life is going smoothly, and remember this at all times! There are a variety of modalities that can be used to achieve this state of being, and I will give you a few tools here: The first one is meditating The second one is observing your thoughts The third one is reprogramming those negative thought patterns. We all have been programmed since birth, and we are continually being programmed by everything around us (ex. news, shows, radio, other people, etc.). Now my question is, would you rather be the programmer of your subconscious, or would you instead continue being programmed by others? If you answered yes to the first question, then congratulations, you are one step closer to remembering your divinity! Now the question is, are you willing to learn and incorporate new tools in your everyday life so you can create the life of your dreams? If you answer yes to this question, let me leave you with a piece of advice. The first piece of advice would be to go on YouTube (It's Free) and search for short meditations on connecting to your higher self and or whatever meditation you find that vibes with you. Then take ten to twenty minutes a day to commit to doing the work. This is just the beginning of the process, so be joyful that you start your journey to remember your divinity! The second is not direct advice but an invite to work with me one on one or in a group coaching setting. We have a free Facebook group that's full of like-hearted people that are rediscovering their divinity. Join the group and share what your dreams are and why you want to remember your true self. You would not be here today reading this if your soul was not calling for a change. So let's go on a journey of inner awareness and rediscovering our true being, the God inside of us. We are all creators! We are the creator in human form experiencing this life! For more info, follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or visit my website! Gabrielle Washington, Executive Contributor Brainz Magazine Gabrielle Washington has a successful business as a psychic medium and handmade conscious jeweler. Her life has been a rollercoaster of tragic events, from battling major health problems that started in her twenties to losing one of her baby sisters back in 2011 and her divine counterpart (Twin Flame) in 2015. Although these events may seem tragic, they all were divinely orchestrated to be a catalyst for her spiritual awakening. She battled and won the war with her major depression, which leads her to open up her vessel to be a channel for divine energy. Gabrielle's mission is to help not only twin flames but to help as many souls as she can awaken to their soul's purpose.
- Addictions and Food
Written by: Cheryl Meyer, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I want to address the “elephant in the room” – food addiction. You want to adopt healthier habits, lose weight, eat the rainbow and upgrade the quality of your food to solve a health issue, but you don’t have the “will power” to win. Maybe you have a weight issue and have “tried” your entire life to solve it. And you own every diet book that has been written; you have tried every diet, but you lose, and then you gain more, and you are frustrated. Maybe you have diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides, or even fatty liver, but you cannot sustain new habits. You have a heart problem, cancer, or an autoimmune disease and are taking lots of pills. You want to improve your diet, but it is boring. You feel deprived. Or are you a parent of a chronically ill child? As a good mom, you want to help your child, but how? The truth is you are addicted to the ingredients in processed foods. Sugar is as addictive as cocaine. Synthetic ingredients are purposely addictive. These foods are loaded with addictive MSG, now hidden under 30 names. Big Food is not in the business of manufacturing healthy food. They are in the business of making a profit. Processed and fast foods are loaded with inexpensive synthetic ingredients that taste great but are “fake foods” and offer little nutrition. In Pandora’s Box, a book by a former New York Times food critic, the author uncovers how Big Food has replaced real foods with the inventions of food science. They are now using “food-like substances” that taste good but purposely addict you. Your body is starved for nutrition; it holds on to what little nutrition you eat. By eating processed food and sugar, you are starving your body. It has nothing to do with “will power;” it has to do with addiction. Sugar and synthetic ingredients turn off your two hunger hormones. To win, you need to break your addiction to these ingredients and reactivate the hormones that regulate appetite. Leptin controls your hunger. When leptin is not working properly, your brain thinks it is starving, so you are driven to eat. These addictions suppress this hormone. They also muck around with your hormone ghrelin, so the hypothalamus does not receive a signal to stop eating, which leads to overeating. You go through withdrawal when you stop eating sugar and synthetic ingredients. When this addiction is broken, your body savors eating real foods; real food tastes better. Your body celebrates because it receives all the nutrients it needs to build health. You cook to control what goes into your body. With a health coach, you can do this one-on-one or join a group program for support. In the beginning, you will have cravings. It only takes three weeks to break the addiction. The result is food freedom. Finally, you are sustainably playing to win. Stop eating the Standard American Diet. If you keep eating it, you will get standard American diseases and die the standard American death. Other countries are eating our food products that are loaded with hidden sugars and chemicals, so you can die of this as well. Instead, switch to the GLAD diet, the Green Living American Diet of organic fruits and vegetables. Once you feel your body all the phytonutrients it needs to be healthy and eat them consistently, you begin to find health, and you will begin to lose weight without dieting. I am running quarterly sugar detoxes. They add support in a zoom group for 4 weeks. There is a private Facebook group for support. There are replays available of all of the modules. - Can an Introvert be an Entrepreneur? 10 Superpowers of Being an Introvert Entrepreneur
Written by: Jennifer Nowicki, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I am an introvert and have heard that I cannot be an entrepreneur or be in my industry because I am an introvert. While yes, being a free-lancer type entrepreneur (graphic designer, dog walker, authors, coach, virtual assistant, etc.) works well for introverts, you can be in a more public-facing business too. Our superpowers are: We tend to listen to people. Often people feel comfortable telling me things that they will not tell other people. I may disagree with what someone is saying, but I will listen to their perspective. Sometimes just being heard is what someone wants, not agreement with what is displayed. We tend to be detailed oriented. I tend to want to know everything about something if I am passionate about it. We tend to see past the surface and investigate further an idea before stating our opinion. We see details that others sometimes miss. Unwritten rules and customs that differ in different cultures and groups. We tend to be creative. Many of us introverts tend to think outside of the box and let our imagination wonder. We can sometimes see things other people cannot because we tend to be creative and see creativity as an asset to understand the world we live in or fix a problem. We can work well in crowds. Some introverts do not work well in crowds at all, but many of us do. We need to decompress afterward. Usually, when I am at large events, I tend to focus on a few people instead of working with the whole crowd. I tend to get to know that person or few people well versus getting everyone’s business card and moving to the next person. We tend to be intuitive. For me being intuitive, I see it as past knowledge or experiences below the surface, so you understand without verbalizing it at first. You seem to know how to do something or know something without knowing why. Only later am I able to verbalize the reason I did something. We tend to be self-motivated. As I get older, I have become more and more self-motivated. If something makes sense, I will do it. This is an important trait of an entrepreneur; we see a problem, and we fix it. We tend to devolve deep into our area of focus. When we are by ourselves or in small groups, we tend to incubate our ideas and do mental trial and error before implementing something. I know many times people think I am being spontaneous about saying yes to something, but most times, it is because I have thought about doing this same thing or have done similar things beforehand. An analogy is I love doing puzzles. Some ideas are puzzle pieces. I finally found a fit for them or a piece that fits nicely into a certain area. We tend to be people or product-focused, not self-focused. Yes, I do have pictures taken of me for my business. It is a necessary evil for me. I prefer my product to be the focus, not me, but sometimes that is impossible. We tend to be observant. When I was in Austria, I noticed how rules and cleanliness seemed important, so I respected this when I was there. I noticed how on escalators, people tend to go to one side if they decide to ride it up or down so other people can walk up or down if they are in a hurry or just active people. We tend to be compassionate. As stated earlier, we listen to people talk because sometimes it is nice just to be heard. Maybe they need to verbalize their frustration or need a safe place to speak their opinion. Sometimes we have gone through the same thing to make them feel better, knowing they are not alone. Introverts provide this outlet. For more information, follow me on Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn and visit my websi te ! - Alchemists & Magicians — You Reflect Who I Am
Written by: Serena Scarlett, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I know myself through you because you reflect who I truly am. Know me by all my names. For us go-getter trailblazers, we are the Creators. We are also the Magicians, the Innovators & Alchemists who are the change and impact we want to see in the world. We thrive from others' input and engagement . We love to power others up and catapult them forward. It’s through others' power and effect that we come to know our own limitless boundaries. Who I am when I am alone, and who am I when I write or interact with my wonderful clients are two (or more) different people. This is due to energy, vibe, and reactions to how each other's thoughts and more bounce off each other. But it's more than just a reaction . It's an inspiration. I find myself in you — my Otherness at play. To put it more simply, the true Source or Spirit opens up when I am thinking of you (and not myself). We are more than the (sum) some of us. Don't you agree? When do I find myself in you? Here is a list of examples recognizable as everyday occurrences The phone rings just as you were going to call that person. Who thought who into action? Perhaps there is a collective creation. Asking a question to a colleague or pal and starting, the answer you needed comes to you. You have a problem, and you seek out someone to help and advise ; they go through options with you, which you already knew (but perhaps needed to hear objectively). Da da! You make a mistake at work, and it's damn it, of an ilk you often stuff up, and so your manager brings you to task on it. Reflecting on you, they are your best mirror. You have the spark of an idea, and you brainstorm it with others, and wow, does it get the concept rolling, snowballing, and becomes so powerful it takes off. Others take it up and call it their own. Wha! You do something that annoys a colleague or your partner, and it's showing you - what? That they have annoying traits? I t's more likely that it shows you what you don't like in yourself. I find myself in you! You debate and argue, maintaining your position and stick stubbornly with it. The more you argue, the ‘stronger’ your position. Who said, ‘argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they’re yours ?' Jonathan Livingston Seagull, of course (from a book of the same name by Richard Bach). Always a good read for self-reflection and boundless limits. Who am I ? Am I just me? No Way-ee. Together we be . Isn't it great when someone actually affirms your great talents ? They got you. They get you. Be grateful. Let’s face it when we are different . Not everybody gets us. And if your convo-artists have a different idea to add, well, embrace it and realize that this doesn't necessarily mean they disagree with you. They may have something to add or just have a different angle they view from. Right or not, creative or stuck, we bounce off each other —more than we know at times. We wax and wane because there is an energy transference with others, and it's diminished or perhaps just different when we are on our own. Even when someone seems totally against you, they are exchanging energy. The other is with you, even in an argument, because it's still communication, even if it's flawed. Think of the energy flying around at times, it's almost, heck, it is -tangible. See red! The green-eyed monster in jealousy and so forth. The energies at play are given actual names! Does it transform us? Maybe? What energy are you sharing? A constructive or destructive form? If we suspend judgment, both are simply positions in a spectrum of creativity. The simplest analogy of this is seen in Mother Earth . From composting comes fertile soil, creation, and new life. Creative sharing and idea brainstorming are potent forces. Where does any manifestation start? With the spark of an idea from an artistic or creative thinker. From a seed planted. Followed up by action taking on the ideas by the Creator or Innovator. If you wonder if you are creative or not, join in a conversation, comment, become engaged, and see where it takes you. Let your imagination take flight. Some may disagree or try to drag you back to ‘their reality .’ Regardless you don’t always have to be recognized as being right. Enjoy the process, the journey, the creative play. You may surprise yourself with the truths you uncover for yourself and others in the process. You are the Magician and Alchemist in Life. Create! - Want to Live Longer and Healthier? —The Ikarians are Doing it
Written by: Mandy Napier, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. From supplements, exercise, meditation, and yoga to more radical measures such as surgery, strict diets, and the next wonder drug, Australians spend billions every year on the quest for a healthy life. Despite this, Australians are becoming unhealthier. Diabetes, heart disease, and cancers are occurring at a younger age. Clearly, what we’re doing isn’t working. So, what is working? Science and research have given us a helping hand. Research shows that genes account for only 7% of a person’s lifespan. So, what makes up the rest? Let’s take a peek at research and articles by industry experts about what makes longevity possible. 5 Regions of the World Where People Live Longer Dan Buettner, Founder and CEO of Blue Zones teamed up with National Geographic and the world’s longevity researchers to study areas in the world where people live measurably better, longer, healthier lives. They discovered that these five regions hold the greatest number of people over 100 years old: Ikaria, Greece Loma Linda, California Okinawa, Japan Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica Barbagia region in Sardinia Let’s look at the island Ikaria in Greece, where people are four times more likely to reach 90 years of age than their American counterparts. Daily Routines and Healthy Habits are Part of Ikarian Life Daily routines include waking naturally, working in the garden, enjoying a late lunch, having a nap, visiting neighbors, or having guests over. The Ikarians’ diet is simple. It includes goat’s milk, sage, beans, greens like fennel, dandelion, and seasonal vegetables. Furthermore, the abundance of green homegrown vegetables with no pesticides means their food is naturally nutrient-rich. Larded pork in small quantities is eaten for a short time each year. Olive oil is used frequently, and local goat’s milk is the main choice for dairy. Moderate levels of alcohol taken mainly while socializing are the norm. Laughter and Connection are Critical for a Healthy Life The Ikarians enjoy laughter, gossip, and wine. And sleep and sex are just as important! Social activities, dancing, and fun with families and friends are common activities. Sitting on the couch at night is not acceptable! Many Ikarians have access to a family garden and livestock, and the island has a history of self-sufficiency. Lunch is always taken as a real lunch break. This means people take time to enjoy connecting with other people while they eat. Due to the steep terrain of Ikaria, hill walking is a daily habit. Keeping fit is literally a way of life! What will you integrate into Your Lifestyle for a Longer, Healthier Life? Take a leaf from the Ikarians and sprinkle a few of their ingredients into your life. Unplug from your gadgets and connect with more people. Develop a keystone habit of moving your body daily. Focus on eating healthy foods. Drink in moderation. And learn to let go of your layers of stress. With a solid community spirit, an ecosystem conducive to healthy, nutrient-rich foods, and sensible alcohol intake, you have the key ingredients for living a healthy life. Besides a healthier and longer life, there are other benefits to this lifestyle. It can help program your subconscious mind for health, happiness, and longevity, which can set you up for the success you seek in life. And who doesn’t want that? - The Fundamental Flaw with Time Management
Written by: Carmel Murphy, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Ask any entrepreneur or business owner what one of their biggest struggles is, and no doubt it will have something to do with time. Not enough time to get everything done Things taking too much time to complete A feeling of running out of time when things haven't gone to plan! This too little time phenomenon sees endless blogs, books, podcasts, and courses teaching time management. It's a lucrative industry, no doubt! There are so many people searching for the answer to 'more time.' But somewhere along the line, something was missed. Skipped over. We all nod our heads in unison through the power of collective agreement about how important time management is. But there is, unfortunately, a flaw in our thinking. But before we get to that, let's first ask the age-old question – what is time? Google this question, and you'll find many answers to what is quite a tricky question! But before we go down the rabbit hole of physics and time-space theory, good old Wikipedia will suffice for today: "Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in an apparently irreversible succession from the past, through the present, into the future. It is a component quantity of various measurements used to sequence events, to compare the duration of events or the intervals between them, and to quantify rates of change of quantities in material reality or in the conscious experience." Bit of a mouthful, right!? Here are the three key things to take from this: Time doesn't stop It allows us to order existence and events from past, present, and future Time is a measure of change Now, this is all well and good until you ask the question – is time something you can actually manage? Because as the definition shows, time isn't a thing. You can't touch it. Hold it. Tie a rope around it and tell it to speed up or slow down, or correct course! Management means to be in charge of something and to control it. Unfortunately, this is the fundamental flaw when it comes to using the phrase, time management. Because as it turns out – you can't actually manage time! And the more people propose that you can, the more it creates feelings of guilt, overwhelm, and frustration in people out there IN time building and growing businesses. You can only ever manage yourself in time . Believing you can manage time leads to constantly feeling you've failed or that you're not 'good enough' because you're not 'managing your time correctly and ticking that ' to-do list off fast enough! Here's where I believe the discussion on time management needs to head, especially for business. Self-Management When you let go of the concept of time management and instead focus on self-management, things can really start to change for the better. But it does, of course, require the ability to increase your self-awareness so you can 'see' what behaviors or habits you need to change, evolve, or let go of to manage yourself better in time. Something I see many people struggle with is unrealistic time expectations. Scheduling and lists don't work only create endless stress and anxiety because they believe they should always do things FAST. And if they're not completed in the allocated time, their cortisol goes through the roof! How can you become better at managing realistic time expectations? Surround yourself with others already achieving what you want – and ask them how they do it, how they learned a new skill. How long it takes them to complete the task? You may be surprised that all that extra pressure you've put on yourself is entirely unnecessary! Impact of Tasks You probably already know about listing tasks in order of urgency and priority. But what most will miss is a third aspect that is vital to consider when it comes to exceptional achievement. And that's impact. The impact or significance of each thing on your list compared to your end goal. For entrepreneurs, that could be financial freedom or creating generational wealth. For business owners that could be winning awards or expanding into new areas. Whatever that big goal is, it's super important that you assess everything on your list for its significance to this outcome. And put those tasks to the top of the list that has the most impact on making that dream happen! Ranking by impact and significance can give you the power to say NO things on your list leading you in the wrong direction! Helping you stay focused and more successful in the long run. Commitment Once you know what you need to manage – yourself And once you know your most significant tasks – to ensure you get what you want! It then becomes a commitment to focus on these two things. Something that is talked a lot about in marketing and business is consistency. Consistency in your message. Consistency in content creation. Consistency in showing up and giving value. It's crucial to realize committing to being consistent is self-management. Not time management. Time is going to pass, no matter what you do. It's all about managing yourself (or your 'selves ,' as Hal & Sidra Stone would say) in time. More about managing yourselves in a future article… Till then, if you catch yourself using the phrase ' time management,' remember – there's more to it than making a list or schedule and then 'failing' to stick to it when it comes to Exceptional Achievement! Those who are genuinely successful understand the profit-power of self-management within time. I was first challenged on the concept of time management by my Wealth Mentor, Paul Counsel. He knew that it's collective, non-sensical agreements like this that hold you back from experience true personal and financial freedom. I am hosting Paul on a FREE 6-part webinar series about achieving more money, enjoying more free time, and experiencing true financial freedom during May 2021. Click to join the discussion HERE! - Letting Go
Written by: Amy Morgan, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. One of the hardest things we have to learn in life is how to let go. Letting go is a practice to support our acceptance of reality. We all have a vision of what we thought our life would or should be like or what we thought we wanted. We limit ourselves and get in our way of achieving new things by not letting go and living in the past. Letting go is all about seeing the reality that is right in front of you and learning how to accept any situation, taking personal responsibility, and learning to begin again. Holding on is an instinct, but it prevents us from hitting our true potential because we are focused on the past and the things we don’t have currently. Holding on fulfills our needs for safety and security. Safety & security are part of the basic needs of all humans that drive all of our behaviors. Fortunately, there is a process to learn to let go to really embrace and thrive in your current situation. Start with recognizing that you are living in the past. What you want to be true isn’t. You need to learn to live in the present moment, and focusing on what you don’t have keeps you in a lack mindset. You are in wishful thinking instead of reality. When you can live in the present, of exactly what is true, you can look at all you do have in abundance. You can change your thoughts to gratitude, which will immediately put you into a more positive mindset. Next, focus on what is important to you. Choose your future you, the goals and desires that you want now. Be clear and specific and recognize that holding on will not create the environment you need to go forward and choose to want new things. Next, stop blaming. Take full responsibility for your actions. We are only in control of ourselves. We always get to learn from past mistakes and choose better for ourselves going forward. Learn to master your emotions. When you can pinpoint the exact emotion, feel it and release it, you begin to feel better. Holding on will take a toll on your physical and emotional health, and it needs to be released. Always choose you. Choose your future, choose your wants and new choices. When you choose, it is not selfish. It is truly self-preservation for your own sanity and builds up your own self-worth that you deserve to have exactly what you want. You can learn to appreciate yourself. When you can fully accept exactly what is and see situations for their current reality, you can rewrite your story. Tell yourself why you can get exactly what you want in a new relationship, a new career, and begin taking action steps towards the new desires. By doing these steps, you will begin to feel better without the resistance of thinking the situation could have been anything different. You can then move forward with new goals and new expectations.
