  • James Burhoe, Founder / Owner, Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

For most of my adult life, I built my identity through the skilled trades. I worked as a Red Seal Steam Fitter, Plumber, and International Valve Technician, holding specialized clearances for Nuclear, Battle Deck Operations, and the Oil Sands. The work tested both my skill and endurance, and I took pride in every challenge. Then, on January 7, 2020, everything changed. A catastrophic workplace accident left me with a crushed elbow, a torn rotator cuff, a torn forearm, and eventually, a diagnosis of Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). This condition brings constant, unrelenting nerve pain. Overnight, the physical strength and precision I had built my world around were taken from me. The future I had once seen clearly vanished into uncertainty. The months that followed swallowed me in darkness. There is a kind of loneliness that pain breeds, a silence that echoes with doubt and grief. I questioned my body, my worth, my very self. Yet even within that stark loneliness, in the stillness left by all I had lost, a flicker of something stubborn refused to die. I clung to one anchor: my mind, my thirst for discovery, my unbreakable bond with the wild world outside those walls. So, I started again. I returned to school, enrolling at Seneca College at age 46, determined to rebuild from the ground up. I earned a Diploma in International Business and later an Honours Bachelor of Commerce in Business Management (BCom Hon. BBM). Every class, every late-night assignment, felt like reclaiming a piece of myself. I also joined HELIX, Seneca’s business incubator, where an idea, one that had been quietly growing since childhood, began to take root. That idea became The Botanical Sage Apothecary. From the beginning, this wasn’t simply about making products. It was about alchemy, of pain into purpose, isolation into belonging. My vision was for a space where suffering met hope, where ancient wisdom offered a sanctuary against despair. The Botanical Sage (thebotanicalsage.ca) is my response to loss: a sanctuary where global herbal traditions and ancestral plant knowledge take root in healing and resilience. Wellness, to me, is borderless; every soul deserves the earth’s gentle wisdom, no matter their scars. But this journey didn’t start with my injury; it began long before that. As a child, I learned to forage, identify plants, and listen to the language of the forest. Those early lessons in patience and respect for the land were like seeds lying dormant. Years later, when my body could no longer do what it once did, those seeds began to grow. Pain brought clarity; loss gave me new purpose. Today, my greatest pride lies in my family, my wife, my three daughters, two stepdaughters, and my niece, whose strength mirrors the resilience that keeps me moving forward. They are proof that love endures even when life fractures us. At The Botanical Sage, we create reminders that healing is possible, growth can emerge from broken ground, and pain holds the potential for renewal. My name is James Burhoe, and this apothecary carries the weight of my story, endurance, transformation, and the yielding belief that even when everything breaks, we can root ourselves and choose to grow again. • Reena Pathak, Creator of the 6R Ascension™ Process , Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Reena is a Transformational Guide, Energy Practitioner, and creator of the 6R Ascension™ Process, a structured framework designed to help individuals heal beyond symptoms and transform beyond awareness. Her journey into healing began in childhood, inspired by her mother's wisdom, spirituality, and deep understanding of life's unseen dimensions. Over the years, personal experiences of loss, grief, and profound life transitions led Reena to explore the deeper connections between emotional wellbeing, energy, consciousness, and spiritual growth. What began as a search for healing evolved into a lifelong commitment to helping others reconnect with their true selves. A pivotal moment in her path came during her work as a Regression Therapist, where she became aware of and learned to trust her intuitive and clairvoyant abilities. These experiences deepened her understanding of the soul's journey and reinforced her belief that true healing occurs when we address the emotional, mental, energetic, ancestral, and spiritual aspects of our lives as a whole. The passing of her mother during the COVID pandemic became another transformative chapter, leading her into a deeper exploration of grief, resilience, energy healing, and spiritual connection. Through her own healing journey, she gained a profound appreciation for the wisdom that can emerge from life's most challenging experiences. Today, Reena combines professional training, lived experience, and intuitive insight to support individuals through healing and transformation. Her work integrates Regression Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Spiritual and Energy Healing, Ancestral Healing, Inner Child Healing, Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapy, Qi Gong, Meditation, and Intuitive Guidance. She teaches practices that cultivate balance, vitality, and inner harmony. Through the 6R Ascension™ Process, Reena helps individuals release limiting patterns, heal emotional wounds, reconnect with their inner wisdom, and align more fully with their purpose and potential. At the heart of her work is a simple belief: healing is not about becoming someone new—it is about remembering who you truly are. • Regina Eastman, Integrative Therapist/Doctorate of Ministry (c), Executive Contributor at Brainz Magazine

Regina Eastman regards herself as a Nemophilist, a lover and haunter of the woods, and has been since her childhood. Growing up in rural VT and NH, within a family struggling socio-economically, nature offered safety and grounding. Nature deeply drew her in and continues to do so today. Her developed relationship with the natural world carries the quality of childlike innocence, held within a field of wisdom. Regina has come to know that nature, like ourselves and all of life, is a conscious, energetic being. She appreciates and supports our coming into relationship with our inner and outer nature, finding healing and wholeness through the dimensions of what is conscious and what is waiting to come into consciousness from our shadow, dreams, and the inner, bodily-held unconscious. Regina is currently studying and applying to her Doctorate in Ministry in Engaged Wisdom through Ubiquity University. She has traveled to Mesoamerican regions over the past 3 years in honor of her calling to learn from and experience Indigenous wisdom and traditions of spirit and the medicines of nature. As the life cycle spirals, she is beginning to feel a pull toward her biological ancestry, hoping to find her heritage in Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Spain. Regina hopes to find the familial heretics and give back by resurrecting the traditions of wisdom and service through nature and wholeness. She has chosen to have her Clinical Mental Health Counselor license become inactive as she honors that all of life is a spiritual experience and has no limits that the Western form of mental health places on us. She holds a license as a Massage Therapist, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner, Shamanic Reiki Master Practitioner, Level III Way of the Warrior Shambhala Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Practitioner, and has a BS in Metaphysics and MA in Applied Psychology. She professes that wholeness and Oneness are of the inner and outer realms of ourselves and life, of the unconscious and the conscious, the seen and unseen, of the way of the feminine and the masculine, and of our planet and the cosmos.
