The key factors are lifestyle and the environment. The genes responsible for life expectancy are only at 20 percent. This means that we have an impact of 80% on the quality and length of our lives!

Here are ten secrets of longevity:

1. The Adequate dose of movement

Centenarians do not go to the gym or run marathons. Yet their lifestyle forces them to have a constant dose of movement. They grow gardens and do everything by hand. Every day, they walk 5-6 miles by visiting their friends and by not use cars.

2. A purpose for getting out of bed

On Okinawa, they call it „Ikigai”, on the island Nicaya “plan de vida”.

The realization of your own life purpose translates into an additional seven years of life on average.

3. A Life Free from Stress

We all experience stress. However, an intense and prolonged episode leads to chronic inflammation, which is responsible for most sicknesses in old age. Nevertheless, people experiencing their hundreds have something we lack ways to unload their stress. For example, they spend a few moments a day remembering their ancestors in Okinawa, Adventists pray, and Icarians set up an afternoon nap for themselves.

4. “Hara Hachi Bu” – the 80 percent rule

This is the Confucian mantra from 2.5 thousand ago, which is spoken in Okinawa before a meal. It reminds you to stop eating when your stomach is 80 percent full. The remaining fifth is the difference between satisfying hunger and feeling full, but also most often the difference between losing

excess weight and gaining weight.

5. Wine with a meal

Centenarians drink a small amount with a meal or with friends during their lifetimes.

6. Faith

This is of great importance. A study showed that attendance at services four times a month extends life by 4–14 years.

7. Being close to family

Loved ones are always the most important aspect of the lives of centenarians. This means that there is an aging generation of parents or grandparents in or near the home which also reduces the incidence of disease in children. It is also important to engage in a relationship with a life partner which may mean an additional three years of life and to invest time in and show love to your children when older, they will be more likely to take care of you.

8. Nourishment

Meat only on holidays and celebrations a plant-based diet on a daily basis. Mostly vegetables and legumes. Food on small plates, chewing slowly as well.

9. Laughter Therapy

Every day there is time to enjoy life.

10. Be proud of your life and who you are.
