When we think about dreams, we tend to view them as a means to reach a goal or achieve a type of success, but we rarely consider them a mission. We may even call the dreams we have for ourselves delusional at times because we have been made to think that way. However, in moments like this, we must take a step back and realize that having a dream or an ambition takes work, commitment, and the ability to face the highs and lows without giving up. In reality, some people work to the bone to achieve success, while others are handed success. But how does that define your success when your purpose is different from others'? These comparisons create a rift in the belief that achieving something is possible, especially considering that most people in the world have talent but count themselves out before they can even touch the essence of their dream.

Does failure teach you how to be successful?
As a musician, writer, photographer, and a voice for the people, I have learned what it means to struggle with the longing for my dreams to become my reality. But I had to learn that my dreams, goals, and ideas start with me. I am the construct of my reality and all that I desire. Sometimes, it’s not us that stops us from going far, sometimes, it’s our worldly setbacks, like the need for survival to see the next day, depending on your life situation, or the constant pressure to align with an identity you don’t agree with. These positive and negative factors cause us to heal and open wounds of our failures and past that we haven’t yet accepted in order to reach our dreams. In my opinion, we tend to let failure define our whole legacy before it has even started. We must stop doing that and learn how to get back up. There are so many creative souls who face failure each day but continue to strive, even if they aren’t heard. What makes you different, whether you have an audience or not?
Do we give up too easily? (Is authenticity the problem?)
As a person with 100 ideas flowing through my head, I know how it feels to give up before even picking up the pencil. As I’ve grown and had the chance to experience life and others, I’ve learned that in my generation, we tend to burn a hole through our ideas without testing the waters because of the negative mindset installed in us or what we have been conditioned to think, that success is rare, causing blockages to our ambition. Society has conditioned us to think in one way and to stay "realistic." Ask yourself, is anything realistic when we face unfair advantages that affect us as a nation? In your personal life, when you have people, energy, work, and everyday life telling you your story before you’ve even had a chance to figure out who you are, your creative lifeline gets cut short like an electric fuse box blowing out on a sunny day.
I personally think that people don’t give up easily, however, I do think people are desensitized to working endlessly. When the sparks of creativity are cut short, it consumes us before our feet can lift off the ground. Also, so many people are afraid to be themselves because they fear judgment. I’m here to tell the truth, some people won’t like you for who you truly are, but there will be so many others who appreciate the authentic energy you carry. No matter where you are in life, the true essence of who you are will set you free from all that has been placed on your back since your birth into this world.
You are the key to your success (take the risk)
When we are consumed by the idea of expressing ourselves, we tend to shut ourselves out from the conversation due to feelings of inauthenticity or feeling like an imposter, because we think people will treat us differently. This is true, but the success of yourself lies within you, not others. People may attribute their success to luck rather than their own abilities, leading to a constant fear of failure and procrastination. But you have to know that you are the vision board, the blueprint to your plan or creative endeavor. Furthermore, they may downplay their achievements and feel unworthy of praise or recognition, despite taking on multiple challenges. Giving your mindset a chance to improve your internal value while taking risks is truly important when creating your own lane.
We are human, and when we see so much creation, we often think, “Where do I fit in?” The key to success is to think outside the box, not to be placed in a box, and not to allow the world’s energies (people, etc.) to form who you are. You must be the outside construct to the internal society standards of the world.
5 tips to help keep going
1. Acknowledge your accomplishments
It's important to understand that when you gain success, it's good to keep striving for more. However, it's more important to acknowledge how far you have come in your lifetime. When we are jumping multiple hurdles, we can become restless with the goals we are striving to meet. It's okay to appreciate where you are in life. Sometimes, we rush so fast trying to get to the good part that we miss out on the whole idea of what life was trying to teach us when we look back on our past.
2. Take one bite at a time
We have many ideas and plans that we ruminate on to showcase to others. However, these ideas can cause you to be consumed with fear, anxiety, and doubt, which is natural when exposing yourself to something new. But that doesn’t mean that being in those states of mind will get you anywhere if you don't actually take action. Set your plan like a dinner table. Each step has its own individual structure and placement for the food to be set and eaten by consumers. I say this to express the idea that when you try to attack all these steps at the same time, it can be overwhelming to continue what you’ve started. Success is not a race, it's a placement you gradually gain to sustain. Stop putting pressure on yourself before you have picked up the tool or made an investment in yourself. Remember, you are the investment, and your plate of ideas is the meal. When cooking, you must go through trial and error to perfect your skill. So know that you don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to believe in what you are showcasing and creating.
3. Challenge the negative thoughts
As humans, negativity can hold more weight than water itself. From what I have seen in myself, my peers, and even older generations, we tend to thrive off stress and negative energy, which harms us in the long run physically, mentally, and emotionally. If you don’t have balance in your life, it will damage you. Society will question everything you put into yourself, whether it's a pathway you desire or not. You have to combat the negative emotions when you are at the crossroads of who you once were and who you are becoming. When we have thoughts like that, it’s the pivotal moment to switch lanes or keep going. Sometimes, when you are figuring yourself out, it’s okay to regroup, but staying stagnant in negative energy forever without making any move will be combated with negative self-talk in everything you do. You have to find joy in the journey before you reach the destination because it’s how we elevate and grow as individuals. I’m here to encourage you to keep going, no matter the storm or the stumble. Allow your heart, soul, and body to relish in the thoughts of how you will succeed in what you put your mind to.
4. Ask yourself: What triggers you to lose sight of the vision?
As humans, we can get blindsided by the vision or the goal at hand. Taking time to identify situations, thoughts, or environments that trigger feelings of imposter syndrome for you can help you develop a better sense of self. When experiencing these situations or triggers, we can help ourselves develop coping strategies that minimize the impact on self-confidence. When we receive critical feedback, compare ourselves to others, or face new challenges, learning how to approach these situations that bring up feelings of self-doubt can make our creative drive dull. Once you understand how to combat these emotions and feelings, you cut out the distractions that could harm the positive space you are brewing for yourself.
5. Meditation, Manifestation, Motivation (The 3 Ms)
Meditation: Take time with yourself and close your eyes, allowing yourself to come into a calm state quietly or with music, however you like. Allow the body and mind to connect. The key to meditation is to relax and give your body and mind a rest, bringing you back to your center. Breathwork alongside meditation can center the mind and bring calm energy to the body.
Manifestation: When we desire money, fame, or just stability in life, it's good to manifest what we want. However, most people tend not to believe in manifestation and call it delusional because it doesn’t come when they want it. When we manifest, it's about changing the mind's perspective, moving into a conscious movement of life. You can become what you desire. The mind is the key to the body, and when we say, for example, “I am meant for something greater, I have a purpose in life (x3),” you are sending signals to the brain to consciously shift your mindset into change. Say it more often during the day or daily.
Motivation: When you think of your passions or creativity, ask yourself what your motivation is for putting effort into your creation. Is your creation a symbol for yourself, your family, world issues, or any personal matter that sparks the drive to create? Motivation is one of the most important keys to achieving success and a true sense of self. Know that what you are doing and achieving in your lifetime is meaningful, and the drive you carry reflects who you are.
Be the inspiration for your dreams and others
As we tread through our journey to success, we must remember that even when we face obstacles or challenges that may cause stagnant growth, we can still be an inspiration to others on their life journey. Most people face struggles alone because it’s hard to overcome and be vulnerable, especially as an artist or as a person in everyday life who faces challenges. What we don’t realize is that the steps we take can inspire so many without us even knowing how important it is to create an atmosphere that fosters consistent growth and attracts people who share similar dreams and want to succeed, just like you. (Community is key to development.) Be the anchor to your ship, and while moving through obstacles, when it’s time to move forward from the area where you are staying, don’t be closed off to the people who can help you or to those you can help along the way as you transition to the other side of greatness and success.
In times when we don’t know how everything is going to work or play out, we have to stay strong in the mindset that we are made for something greater than what the world sees us as. Break free from projections, negative self-talk, and more. You only live this life once, and even if it takes time, the idea is that once you shed those old skins, you can become a beacon of hope, not only for yourself but for others around you.
Being a creative person or an entrepreneur with the dream to make a difference in whatever you invest your time in will never be easy, but if you are determined to make strides in growth, you will receive and succeed in your life. You are the key to everything you want, so allow yourself to access what you have been denying yourself for years.
