Brainz Magazine Exclusive Interview
Maria Hatzistefanis is a founder, CEO, and bestselling author who built a multimillion-pound beauty empire without a single penny of external investment. As the founder of Rodial, she has spent more than two decades building a globally recognized brand known for bold innovation, strong identity, and ingredient-led skincare that challenges conventions.
In this interview, Maria shares the pivotal moments that shaped her entrepreneurial journey, how being fired early in her career became a catalyst for building Rodial, and the mindset required to create long-term wealth and authority in business. She also discusses the role of visibility, viral moments, and the discipline required to build a brand that lasts.

You’ve built Rodial into a globally recognized beauty brand with a strong identity and loyal following. For someone unfamiliar with your journey, how would you describe what Rodial represents today, beyond just skincare?
Rodial represents intentional evolution. Beauty is simply the medium. The real story is about building an independent, self-funded global brand that continuously adapts while maintaining a clear identity.
Over 25 years, Rodial has grown with its customers. That ability to evolve without losing focus is what turns a brand into a long-term business.
You’ve shared that being fired earlier in your career became a pivotal turning point. Can you take us back to that moment and how it changed the direction of your life?
Being fired was a moment of forced clarity. It made me question what I really wanted and whether I was willing to take ownership of my future.
In hindsight, that moment pushed me toward entrepreneurship. Without it, I might have stayed on a more conventional path.
At the time, did you see being fired as a setback, or did you sense it could become an opportunity?
At first, it felt like a setback. Long term, it became one of the biggest opportunities of my career. Sometimes what looks like a failure is simply a redirection.
What gave you the confidence to start Rodial, especially without the certainty that it would succeed?
I did not wait for certainty. I made the decision to start Rodial based on conviction and market insight. One of the biggest myths in entrepreneurship is that confidence comes before action. In reality, confidence is built through action and execution.
What was the original vision behind Rodial, and how did you know there was space for your voice in such a competitive industry?
The vision was to create a distinctive brand with a clear point of view. Products that challenged conventions and delivered visible results.
Rodial was one of the first ingredient-led beauty brands, introducing ingredients like Snake Peptides, Dragon’s Blood, and Bee Venom.
But equally important was building a business that could sustain itself long term without relying on external funding. Independence shaped many of the decisions that followed.
Rodial has experienced viral moments and strong visibility over the years. How do viral moments translate into long-term brand growth rather than just temporary attention?
Attention is temporary. Systems create longevity. A viral moment only matters if you have the infrastructure, product quality, and brand trust to convert that attention into long-term customers.
Even before social media, our Snake Serum went viral. What made that moment meaningful was the foundation behind it: strong products, healthy margins, and loyal customers.
What role has visibility played in building Rodial, and how intentional were you about positioning yourself and the brand in front of the right audience?
Visibility is an extension of strategy.
Early on, I understood that as a founder I needed to be visible to build credibility. Not for personal exposure, but to create access, partnerships, and influence. Authority is built when your voice consistently aligns with the performance of your business.
What does the “millionaire mindset” mean to you beyond financial results?
It is a mindset built around ownership, leverage, and long-term value creation. Wealth is not about income. It is about assets, decision-making, and discipline.
The millionaire mindset is less about spending and more about strategic thinking over decades. Wealth is created through leverage, not effort alone.
That is why I wrote my fourth book, How To Make Your First Million, to share the real insights behind building wealth.

How did you develop confidence as a founder, especially in moments of uncertainty or doubt?
By understanding that uncertainty never disappears at higher levels. It simply becomes part of leadership.I still experience uncertainty today, even after building Rodial for more than 25 years.
Over time, you stop chasing certainty and start trusting your ability to navigate complexity. That shift is where real confidence is built.
We always end with one final question. What mindset do you credit most for building confidence, wealth, and authority in your life?
Real success is not about timing. It is about staying relevant long enough to compound.
Maria Hatzistefanis’ journey is a reminder that entrepreneurship is rarely a straight path. Building lasting success requires reinvention, resilience, and the discipline to keep evolving while staying true to a clear vision.
