Tired of getting stuck in fearful thoughts and worrying? It is very common to experience fear, and it is a natural protection mechanism that keeps you safe. But when the fears take over and get the better of you, you probably wonder how to overcome that and tap back into inner peace and harmony!

A woman sits alone on a sand dune, gazing out over a vast desert landscape at sunset.

In this article, you will get a few tools to help you overcome fearful thoughts in a fast and effective way.

EFT tapping

EFT stands for “Emotional Freedom Technique” and is a simple tapping technique that you can do on your own, using your fingertips to tap lightly and rhythmically on specific meridian points on your body.

You can use all your fingertips, or you can use only the ring finger, middle finger, and pointing finger, choosing what feels best for you.

The general rule is that you tap in the rhythm of 3 times as a sequence and then keep that flow happening until you feel a release. You can tap in this sequence:

  • Tap your hands together with each other (karate chop point on the outer side of your hands)

  • Tap slightly under your eyebrows

  • Tap the outer side of your eye, on the bone

  • Tap under the eyes, also on your bones

  • Tap between your nose and upper lip

  • Tap between your lower lip and your chin

  • Tap on your collarbone

  • Tap slightly under your armpits

  • Tap on top of your head

And then you can repeat if necessary. If a full sequence feels too much, you can choose the tapping points you prefer and intuitively feel drawn to.

As you do the tapping, you can repeat either silently or aloud a mantra that you choose that feels aligned for releasing your fear. For example, “I am safe”, “I am grounded”, or “I release”.

And same as the rhythmic tapping, you want to speak the mantra three times!

What you’re doing is supporting your nervous system to feel safe, which can help you very quickly to clear the worst fear that you might experience.

The more regularly you do this, the more you’ll notice the benefits. You can also check out videos and support around this topic here.

Balance your root chakra

A root chakra meditation can be very helpful to do. The root chakra is located at the base of your spine and is generally related to stability, home, material safety, fears, and worries.

What you can do is put on grounding background music, such as nature sounds like rain or birds chirping, and then start focusing on inhaling and exhaling deeply.

Start visualizing a red bowl of light at the base of your spine, and focus all your attention on seeing the red light spinning and rooting you to the Earth.

You can also visualize how you inhale red light through your nose and then exhale it down through your body.

This way, you can, without being guided, balance your own root chakra. Sometimes, 5-10 minutes is enough; sometimes, longer is necessary to fully clear the fear.

You can also access a free library of meditations here, with different types of guided meditations to support your healing journey.

Change your mindset

When you notice yourself being stuck in a fearful thought loop, you might notice anxiety coming up and stress in your body.

It’s important to both work on releasing the fear out of your physical body, while also changing your thoughts to positive outcomes.

A challenge you can do to change your mindset is to ask yourself the question, “What if I were to instead expect the best possible outcome, instead of the worst, what would that be?”.

What you are doing is that you help yourself to produce a positive emotion, like for example, relief, and once you feel the relief, you can also use the tapping now again to “install” a new positive mantra. This way, you work both with belief systems and emotions at the same time.

It’s a very normal aspect of the human mind to experience fear. And it’s there to protect you, but if it takes over your emotions and gets you stuck in a negative spiral, it can be very helpful to program your subconscious mind for positive outcomes and better expectations from life!

You can help yourself create a minimum standard of positive expectations, which helps you to manage fear with more ease and grace.
