For 17 years, I endured a career that never truly felt like my own. What began as a compromise slowly became a life of quiet suffering until my body, circumstances, and the Universe itself forced me to listen. This is my journey from fear and conformity to faith, purpose, and finally choosing myself.

What does it mean to live in survival mode?

Survival mode is when you make decisions driven by fear, obligation, or expectations rather than truth. It’s choosing safety over fulfillment, stability over passion, and compromise over authenticity, often without realizing it.

For me, survival mode began long before my first job.

When your career is survival, not a calling

I never wanted to study Computer Science. My heart was drawn to the medical field, but it was my father’s vision for me to enter Information Technology (IT). I didn’t dare to stand against him. My mother understood my pain but couldn’t support me openly, fearing my father’s reaction. That was my first lesson in compromise, though I didn’t recognize it then.

When I secured my first IT job, the celebration masked the truth. I wasn’t choosing my life, I was continuing a pattern of silent sacrifice. Financial independence brought freedom, something everyone deserves to experience. But freedom without alignment comes at a cost.

For years, I ignored my inner voice. There were moments of chaos when I would scream to myself, “What am I even doing?”

Yet fear of the unknown silenced me with one powerful question, “If I leave this, what’s next?” Fear became my comfort zone.

Listening to the inner voice, I kept silencing

Alongside my corporate life, my soul kept finding small windows to breathe. I am an artist at heart. I love singing and dancing, and I even trained professionally. But when I sought opinions from people, I was told:

“You can do this only till a certain age. Later, your body won’t support you. The IT industry has no such limits.”

That narrative planted deep fear, and I compromised again. Still, I couldn’t abandon my inner calling. I continued to learn, explore, and eventually found my way to Reiki Healing and Life Coaching. I got certified and began practicing as a side hustle, never imagining it could become my main path.

So, I lived two lives: one that paid my bills and another that fed my soul. I worked full-time in the IT industry while building my coaching business on the side. I registered my business and created a one-year roadmap, once my business stabilized, I would leave the IT industry.

Burnout, betrayal, and the cost of standing alone

Running a business while holding a full-time job drained me completely. Stress, sleepless nights, and constant pressure caught up with my body. Burnout doesn’t always arrive gently. For me, it came as a disk herniation, pain that left me bedridden, alone in Germany, emotionally and physically broken.

In those moments, clarity is brutal. I realized how far I had drifted from myself and how deeply unsupported I truly was. All I wanted was emotional and practical support from my parents. I reached out to my parents, hoping for support to return to India and focus on my business. What I received instead was sympathy without support.

“I wasn’t afraid of failure. I was afraid of regret.”

With no support, I made the painful decision to sell my property in India to fund myself. Even selling my own property to fund my survival was met with resistance, fear of judgment, and social conditioning from relatives who projected their insecurities onto my life. Despite knowing it was their projection, their words hurt deeply. I realized age is frequently mistaken for authority and used to quiet younger voices. That was when I truly questioned humanity, “Are we here merely to survive, or to live with purpose?”

Letting go of fear and taking the quantum leap

Despite everything, help arrived from unexpected places. My tenants supported me in taking the responsibility of selling my property when real estate agents tried to exploit me. I hadn’t asked, but they stepped forward purely out of humanity. Strangers showed more humanity than blood relations, and that moment restored my faith.

Resigning from my job was terrifying. My income would now depend entirely on clients enrolling in my programs. I had savings for about six months, after that, everything was uncertain. Yet, when I looked back, I saw a pattern. Every major leap I had taken, my divorce, my relationships, or moving countries, had transformed me into a stronger, more authentic version of myself. With that faith, I submitted my resignation.

When the universe steps in

What happened next reaffirmed everything I believed. A friend informed me about unemployment benefits in Germany. I was eligible for support for an entire year, enough to survive comfortably while working on my soul mission and building a new life.

I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Every challenge, my health, emotional battles, and lack of family/relatives’ support came to a pause when I chose alignment. In the midst of pain, loneliness, and fear, the Universe showed up with unconditional support.

This journey taught me one truth, "When your intentions are pure and aligned with your soul’s mission, life reorganizes itself to support you."
