Have you ever “lost” time? Missed your exit on the highway? Or just enjoyed a relaxed state of being where you didn’t feel the need to solve a problem or think about anything? The zone, the peace, the calm.

This is the level of relaxation the body and mind crave. It is natural and necessary for our nervous systems in order to process all the many things happening in a day. Delaying critical thinking, even for a moment, is very healing. As Anne Lamott says, “Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you."

Another benefit of this state of mind is that by shutting off critical thinking, the subconscious is then open to suggestion. By following the four steps of RISE Hypnotic Meditation, you can induce a relaxed state and address unwanted fears, habits, and imprints, as well as increase desired behaviors such as feeling more comfortable in social situations, stopping nail-biting, or even lowering your blood pressure.

Our subconscious mind holds everything we have ever experienced: every memory, all of our body functions, everything that has been told to us, and every mistake we have made. We may not be consciously aware of these qualities, but they are there, working under the surface, whether making us feel like victims or repeatedly telling ourselves we aren’t worthy or are too entitled. This deep programming is present in all of us and is one of the things that makes us distinctive from other beings.

Our brain’s number one job is to keep us safe. There is no blame for the habits and imprints we have collected. In many cases, these habits saved us in some way. We deeply want to survive, so these ways of being helped us when we needed them. Often, as we get older and no longer need these coping mechanisms, we see how they are holding us back.

As a child, I was very shy and quiet. I believe I loved to hang in the shadows because I felt safe there. No one asked me anything. I could not be put on the spot or embarrassed. However, as I grew older and had things I wanted to say and goals I wanted to accomplish, I had to look at why I was so uncomfortable in group settings, as well as why it was easier to keep my opinions to myself than to share them.

Now, as I look back, I am grateful to have had this issue in my life. It helped me find my voice. Dealing with this very issue and doing my work has allowed me to travel and teach in different areas, as well as speak at conferences. Not feeling safe in my voice is exactly what helped me find it.

Change is not easy for many of us. Sometimes the bad habit that is familiar is more comfortable than the fear of the unknown, even when we know it is good for us. After working with individuals for over 20 years, the RISE acronym became an approachable, simple way for people to work with change in the comfort of their own homes and on their own time.

Learning how to find your relaxed flow state can be life-changing. It allows your issues to arise so that the energy or habit can shift: Relax, Imagibe, Suggest, Empower.

Giving people tools and the power to use them can be life-changing for them and for you. If you would like to become a RISE instructor or learn the tool for yourself, please reach out. The RISE Hypnotic Meditation book can also be found on Amazon.

As a craniosacral therapist and hypnotherapist for over 20 years, Mary noticed many clients struggled with limiting thought patterns affecting their lives and relationships. They were aware of their issues but unsure how to replace old habits with healthier ones. Mary developed the RISE system, which empowers clients to control their change and break free from outdated patterns. With the pandemic halting one-on-one sessions, Mary explored teaching RISE in group settings, discovering it encouraged mutual learning and effective change. RISE, an acronym, offers a straightforward, adaptable tool for lifelong use. Mary's mission is to empower people to live their best lives, personally and professionally.
