Julia Mae Corotan
Motivational Speaker and Content Creator
Julia developed a passion for history, languages, and culture from an early age. Born in Papua New Guinea and of Filipino heritage, she was raised in a household deeply connected to both cultures through her parents and the community around her. This upbringing gave her a unique perspective on the world, people, and relationships.
At 18, Julia moved to the Philippines on her own to begin her college journey. This became a turning point in her life, exposing her to a wide range of experiences—both good and challenging—including her mother’s brain surgery. Amidst these trials, she joined and worked with AIESEC, an international leadership organization, which further strengthened her desire to help others, especially within her community.
As she got older, the constant struggle to meet societal expectations took its toll. Her mental health began to decline. During this time, Amica Mea was born. Meaning “My Beloved” or “My Companion” in Latin, it began as a series of letters she wrote to a future life partner, inspired in part by the film Letters to Juliet.
Her blog, Amica Mea, became a way to connect with people around the world. It was an outlet for her to process her thoughts and emotions during a period of personal turmoil. It also became a source of comfort for others—those who felt lost, burnt out, and exhausted—helping them realize they weren’t alone. Her mission: connection through stories.
Following the success of Amica Mea, Julia launched Becoming You—a natural next step for those ready to rebuild after self-doubt. It focuses on personal development and finding one’s purpose.
Through these platforms, Julia hopes to bring a sense of brightness and community to a world that too often leans toward doubt and isolation.
