  • How To Future Proof Your Relationship?

Written by: Rose Burnett, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Is there a magic formula for relationship success? What makes one relationship work long-term where many others fail? When we enter love relationships, both partners bring their fair share of emotional baggage, good and bad. Karmic imprints, insecurities, sub-conscious fears, self-sabotaging behaviors, as well as all the beautiful, amazing stuff that makes us unique, loveable, and attractive to our partner. First, let us look at: Who we choose as love partners and why? You may think you are consciously choosing love partners based on what qualities you are attracted to and how they make you feel. Often there is much more going on at a subconscious level in who you are choosing and attracting to you. We each have a relationship attachment type that is formed in early childhood based on how consistently and appropriately our needs were met by our caregivers in terms of care, love, and protection. When caregiving is unpredictable or insensitive, we learn to manage as best we can in these types of relationships. And we don’t learn how to form secure bonds. The impacts can show up as low self-esteem, insecurities about self, fear of rejection, abandonment, poor boundary setting, emotional vulnerability, and pushing people away when they get too close. There are four recognized attachment types – secure, anxious, avoidant, and anxious-avoidant. See if you can recognize which type you are? Secure Attachment Types Secure Attachment types are formed when we receive adequate love, care, and attention as babies and children by our primary caregivers. As adults, we are comfortable displaying interest and affection in relationships. We are comfortable being alone and independent and can set healthy boundaries. We find it easy to trust and are loyal and trustworthy. We can accept rejection and move on, knowing a relationship or person was not right for us. Anxious Attachment Types The Anxious attachment type is developed when as an infant, we experience unpredictable caregiving. You may have had your physical needs met, but not all your emotional needs for love, affection, and protection. You can feel nervous and stressed about relationships and need constant reassurance and affection from your partner. You may have trouble being alone or single and can attract unhealthy or abusive relationships. You may have trouble trusting people, and your behavior can be irrational and overly emotional. You can feel emotionally needy and anxious in relationships and exhibit weak boundaries. Meaning you may do things you are not comfortable with, fail to speak up and express your boundaries, or change who you are to be in a relationship and loved. Avoidant Attachment Types This attachment Type develops when the needs of the infant are frequently not met, and the baby comes to believe they have no influence on the caregiver on getting their needs met. Avoidant attachment types are independent and usually uncomfortable with intimacy. They are commitment-phobes and can feel suffocated when people try to get close to them. They often have an exit strategy and arrange their lives to avoid commitment, like working long hours, dating lots of people, and not wanting anything serious. Anxious-Avoidant Attachment Types The anxious-avoidant attachment type develops when an infant suffers abuse or neglect. As adults, they can suffer from substance abuse and depression. Anxious-avoidant types are afraid of intimacy and commitment. They lash out at anyone who tries to get too close to them. They spend a lot of their time alone or in abusive, dysfunctional relationships. Why do I keep choosing the same type of love partner? We typically choose the same type of partner according to our Attachment type. Y ou can display qualities of more than one attachment type but will be predominantly one. For example, you may exhibit behaviors of the anxious or avoidant types when relationships are under stress. And at other times, you can feel secure. These are the common types of bonding with Attachment types: Secure Attachment types can bond with both Anxious and Avoidant types. They are secure enough within themselves to support the Anxious type and help make them feel more secure in a relationship. And confident enough within themselves to allow the Avoidant types to have their space without feeling insecure. Anxious and Avoidant types tend to be drawn to each other because the Anxious type is usually emotionally needy enough to put up with the behavior of the Avoidant type. The Anxious type will typically chase the Avoidant type, who will then emotionally distance themselves. And the Avoidant type knows this type of partner will wait around for them, despite their avoidance behaviors . Whereas someone balanced and secure would not put up with someone who keeps avoiding emotional intimacy. Anxious-Avoidant Types of people usually only date each other or the least secure types on the anxious and avoidant scales. These relationships are often highly dysfunctional, abusive, or neglectful. The Anxious Avoidant type tends to view themselves as unworthy, mistrust their partners, avoid intimacy, and suppress their feelings. Our attachment type explains a lot about why our relationships succeed or fail and why we keep having the same problems come up in relationships time and time again, just with different partners. Can we change our relationship attachment type? Yes, the good news is we can change our attachment style by improving our self-esteem and sense of self-worth. By learning how to set healthy boundaries for ourselves with others and raising our expectations of how we want to be treated in relationships. Learning to recognize our self-sabotaging behaviors in relationships and the triggers, including flight and fight responses where we push people away when feeling overwhelmed or emotionally vulnerable. And discovering how to hold ourselves when we are feeling emotionally vulnerable and finding better ways to manage and healthily express our emotions. By recognizing the patterning playing out in your choice of love partners who are not healthy for you, you can recognize red flags early on and consciously making better choices for yourself. Do you take the time to get to know someone first? As exciting as love is, you can often rush in without really getting to know someone first. Not taking the time to find out the intentions of the other person, what they are really like, and what they are looking for. You can find yourself in situations that do not meet your relationship needs because you have not openly asked what the other person is looking for in a relationship. You may jump into intimacy too soon and feel devasted when you think you are in a relationship and it turns out to be casual, or worse still, you are ghosted. Whilst you cannot control the behavior of the other person, you can set healthy boundaries and standards for yourself in relationships. In the early dating stages, allow yourself to get to know someone and find out if they are the right fit for you and looking for the same things. If someone tells you something difficult for them to confess in the early stages of dating that may be a deal-breaker, recognize this as their truth. Do not ignore it and think it will change over time, or that you can change them once they get to know you better and fall in love with you. Ask yourself can I live with this? Will this connection meet my relationship needs? If not, cull early and save yourself some heartbreak. There will be someone better out there for you, no matter how charming or attractive this person may be. People can also be complicated to get to know and may put on a false front that will only be revealed in time about finances, co-dependent behaviors, and how they show up in relationships. This is part of the relationship journey of getting to know each other. Have you cleaned up your past emotional baggage? When you or the person you are connecting with jumps into a relationship too soon without healing from the past, it can create all sorts of problems. Either by not being emotionally ready for someone new or bringing trust issues into the relationship that are baseless. One may not be over their Ex and are not fully open to the new connection, making the other feel insecure. Generally, when you are not ready, you will attract someone to you the same. It may be a Soulmate partnership but is likely to crash and burn rather than last the distance. Give yourself the gift of time and healing so you are ready. Do you know your partner’s love language? Another success factor in future-proofing your relationship is to learn your partner's love language. What makes them happy in a love relationship and feel loved? What makes you happy in a relationship and feel loved? One partner may need to hear love expressed verbally, and another may express it through touch and intimacy. Your partner may show they love you by doing things for you or giving you things as their love language. You may like to receive things. Problems arise when partners do not know each other’s love language. For example, if you like to hear the words "I love you" and your partner rarely says it but shows their love by doing things for you or through intimacy, you have a mismatch. They feel like they are showing their love constantly, but you may not be feeling loved because you need it expressed verbally. It can happen on both sides. The best way to fix this situation is to have an open discussion and find out each other’s love language is? What makes you happy in a relationship (each of you) and what are your deal breakers? Deal breakers are those things you would leave a relationship for and are non-negotiable. For example, cheating and what constitutes cheating for each person? It can be surprising to find out what your partner’s deal breakers are and them yours. Plan a session together and write down what you discover about each other. Then you have a road map for making each other happy and know each other’s boundaries that will make or break your relationship. Watch out for control & criticism in your relationship When one partner wants to control the other in a relationship, it is usually a learned behavior, a karmic imprint. They have generally witnessed and modeled this type of relationship dynamic from how their caregivers related to each other or applied to them as children through to adulthood growing up. Control often stems from insecurity within self and can affect communication styles, trusting a partner, and allowing them to maintain their interests and friendships. It can expand further to not trusting a partner to do things in the home to a certain standard, including the caregiving of children. For those that control, they may choose a partner they can control who does not stand up for themselves and has weak boundaries. For the one being controlled, it can create resentment, anger, loss of freedom, and fear of rejection. They may hide their feelings and activities with friends, and it creates conditional love in a relationship where love is threatened to be withdrawn if they do not comply with the control and demands of the other partner. To fix this issue, both partners need to have a good sense of self-esteem, trust, and respect for each other, including friends and interests. If there is a pattern of criticism playing out in your relationship by you or your partner, this can lead to one feeling like they cannot make the other happy no matter what they do. It can lead to emotional distance and withdrawal in a relationship and affect the other person's sense of self-esteem. It can be learned behavior, unhealthy relationship patterning, or where the action is not taken on an issue that is important to the one criticizing. What may have started as a polite request turns into a pattern of criticizing when one feels like they are not being heard or stonewalled by the other. If you are the one criticizing, try to remember what you loved about your partner in the first place: their good qualities and all the things they do for you versus focusing on the negatives. Is the issue important, or can you let it go? And if you are the one being criticized, then it is important to discuss with your partner how this makes you feel and to put healthy boundaries in place and keep reinforcing them. And a final word - have the difficult conversations Never has there been more angst and worry in a relationship when you ignore problems and red flags, suppress feelings, and fail to have honest and open discussions when things are bothering you. Whether it is you or your partner. It can lead to assumptions, misconceptions about someone’s feelings, states of illusion, loss of trust, and fears of rejection or abandonment if you express your true feelings. Which can then build up as resentment and discontent, spoken or unspoken. It can create emotional distance between partners and states of withdrawal in the relationship. The easiest way to clear up issues and problems is to have the courage to have difficult conversations, speak your truth, and be emotionally vulnerable with each other. Make sure to create a safe space to have open and honest discussions where both of you feel heard, even if you differ in opinions. And try to see each other’s point of view. Sometimes you may have to wait until emotions have calmed down and you can talk about it, where both of you feel comfortable to discuss the issue without being reactive. And if it is not the information you hoped to receive, then at least you can make an informed decision based on what is in your best interests. • 3 Strategies To Train Your Brain For Easier Money Making

Written by: Dr. Amanda Barrientez, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. “Your dominant ideas and feelings are always accepted by your subconscious mind” — Joseph Murphy. Have you ever thought about how your brain shapes your ability to make “easy” (low stress) or “hard” (high stress) money? This happens because our beliefs are simply thoughts we keep having over and over again. So, our dominant thoughts create what neuroscientists call “paths of least resistance” in our brain’s neural wiring. These paths of least resistance create our belief system, and our belief system subconsciously creates our results. Money Belief Ice Tracks Let’s imagine a sled hill to understand how our subconscious thoughts lead to making easy or hard money, Remember when you were a kid, and you’d jump on your sled to go down the hill, but you wouldn’t go very fast because the snow wasn’t packed into a path? Then, you trudged up and went down again and again, on the same path, and an icy track formed that shot you straight to the bottom fast! Once that happened, it was nearly impossible to go off track. You would have had to very intentionally create a new ice track, starting at the top, to end up at a different point at the bottom of the hill. Your brain does the exact same thing in its belief system wiring when it’s creating paths of least resistance. How are Money-Based Paths of Least Resistance Created? When we’re ages 0-7, we absorb everything that’s going on around us. Repeated cues from our environment shape our neural wiring into paths of least resistance. Over time, these become autopilot, subconscious drivers (thoughts, beliefs, and habits) - just like the ice track on the sled hill! When these paths of least resistance are set up for our success, they shoot us where we want to go. But, when they aren’t set up for success, they lead us into subconscious autopilot behaviors that limit our potential. So, when it comes to money-making, parents and surrounding adults shaped our money belief ice tracks by saying things like: You have to work hard to get good grades so you can get a good job and retire someday. Money doesn’t grow on trees. How will you ever make enough money doing that? You can’t do what you love and make money. If money was tight, you likely watched adults in your life: Fight about money Stress and worry about money Judge “rich” people as corrupt and greedy Have jobs they hated to make money Live for weekends and vacations to escape job stress. Or, if you grew up in a higher income family system, you might have experienced watching your parent(s) work long days, feel stressed, not be around much and even sometimes hide the amount of money they made (a symptom of what I call “wealth shame”). Does any of this resonate with what you were taught about money when you were a kid? I bet it does! After doing hundreds of “money stories” with entrepreneurs around the world, I’ve come to learn that most of us don’t grow up in childhoods where we developed money beliefs that supported ease, abundance, and flow. Instead, our paths of least resistance were formed to set us up to believe that money is hard to make, it causes a lot of stress, and you’re a daydreamer if you think you can do what you want to make money. Fortunately, you can consciously choose to change your money beliefs starting today. 3 Strategies to Train Your Brain for Easier Money Making: 1. Get Conscious About Your Money Ice Track I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “You can’t get where you want to go if you don’t know where you are.” So, back to the sled hill example, you’ve got to get a bird’s eye view of your “money belief ice track.” This will help you understand your money beliefs that have become your paths of least resistance. Start by considering: What did the adults in my life tell me about money? How did they act around money? Did they enjoy what they did for work? Was I supported in doing what I loved doing as a kid, or was I encouraged to work hard for security? Was money talked about easily and openly? How are these beliefs shaping my adult money habits? Answering these questions will help you begin to understand why you’re likely (re)creating an adult money reality that is built on the belief that money-making is stressful, hard work. Caution: It’s important that you don’t use this exercise to shame your family or beat yourself up - this strengthens negative neural pathways! Most likely, your family was doing the best they could with the tools they had at the time. Use the past to inform new decisions in the present and cheer yourself on for getting conscious now. It’s your choice to commit to changing your money reality starting from this day forward instead of focusing on a disempowered past. You can create easier money-making in your future! 2. Build a New Money Ice Track Thanks to neuroplasticity, you have the ability to train your brain for different results. This means you don’t have to stay stuck on the same sled hill that’s been shooting you into a reality of stressful, hard money-making. Instead, you can build a new money ice track where you get to do more of what you enjoy to make easier money. Start by Asking Yourself: Are the money beliefs I learned as a child the ones I still want to believe today? Are my money beliefs empowering or disempowering me? What if I choose to believe the exact opposite - even just for today? What are 10 ways I can make money doing what I enjoy? How can I start each day with fun? What’s one empowering money habit I can start practicing today? 3. Go Down the Sled Hill Again and Again! Remember how you went down the hill again and again to form the ice track that shot you to the bottom of the hill fast? Your brain needs the same repetition to create new paths of least resistance. So, be patient and consistent, and over time you’ll see the results appear as easier, less stressful money-making. • Either You Run The Day, Or The Day Is Running You! Be Proactive and You Are In charge!

Written by: Lotta Spjut, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. A few weeks ago, I was part of a Global Online Event with many million viewers and the theme was “Going from Reactive to Proactive”. I find this subject very interesting and useful. Going from reactive to proactive has helped me a LOT(ta) in life and also in my business and I am sure it can do for you too. Do you ever feel that you are wasting your energy and time worrying about things that you cannot control, that you become paralyzed and fail to act on the things you actually can control? I believe we all do from time to time, and this can be the result of being reactive, in both your private life and in your business. When we on the other hand focus on things we do have control over, we can see that our actions got an effect and that is empowering us. This feeling of empowerment encourages usto take more action, which causes us to feel even more empowered and that causes us to take even more action. This is the result of being proactive instead of reactive. Being PROACTIVE simply means, you take control of your life while being REACTIVE means that you allow life to take control of you. Let´s break it down so it is easier to understand. What is characteristic of Proactive people? They take responsibility for their behavior, results, and growth… When you are proactive, you take responsibility for your life. You are accepting responsibility for your behavior (past, present, and future) and you make the choices based on that you are “response-able.” Proactive people are not afraid of change and choose not to be victims of their circumstances, to be reactive, or to blame others. You act, rather than being acted upon. Even when circumstances limit choices, a proactive person will find a way. Be proactive means you know you can´t blame everything on your parents or genetics, circumstances, or conditions. Proactive people know they choose their behavior. And what about Reactive people? The opposite of a proactive person is a reactive person. Reactive people, on the other hand, are often affected by their physical environment. You find external sources to blame for your behavior. Be Reactive means you let your circumstances and conditions control you. If the weather is good, you feel good. If it isn’t, it affects your attitude and performance, and you blame the weather. Reactive people don’t act, they’re acted upon. Easy to say but HOW to start going from reactive to proactive? Let´s go on with looking into the "reasons" why some of us choose to be proactive and some of us choose to be reactive. Why do we make these choices? There are many studies around this and Stephen Covey, the author of “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” (has sold more than 25 million copies since it was first published in 1989) writes about the first habit, ‘Be Proactive’ and how that is very much the root of any legend’s success. It is a habit that psychologist Viktor Frankl found out during his time held captive in the Nazi concentration camps. Frankl was a Jew living in Austria during WW2 and Frankland his family was put into concentration camps where they were subjected to systemized, soul-crushing cruelty. Only his sister and he survived. In these horrific circumstances, Frankl had a life-changing disclosure. Even though he lost all his basic freedoms, there was one freedom the guards could never take away from him and that was how he would respond to his circumstances. Stimuli are what happens to you daily, what others do and say to you. The stimuli Frankl encountered daily were death, deprivation, cruelty. The response to such stimuli would be to give up and lose hope. Frankl didn´t, he realized that stimulus and response weren’t welded together. There was a gap. There was a choice. Frankl consequently chose a different response than the default. He chose hope. He chose to help the other prisoners. He chose not to hate his captors and he chose to find meaning in his suffering. Covey shares how Viktor Frankl exercised responsibility, the ability to choose his response, in the most desperate and challenging of circumstances. Being truly proactive meant Frankl was freer than his Nazi captors! Now, you may think that this is a very extreme situation that thankfully the majority of us will never experience. I agree, and as Stephen Covey writes, we don't need to experience the extreme suffering that Viktor Frankl went through to be proactive. The ability to choose our response to anything that happens to us is like a muscle that can be developed in our day-to-day lives; whether it is through a challenge at home or at work. Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. Reactive people think that stimulus and response are in direct connection. They don’t see the gap between the two and believe that one determines the other. Reactive people experience stimulus and response as “welded” together. "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's way." - Viktor E. Frankl With this said, let's see in what category you recognize yourself best and also the people you surround yourself with. If you recognize yourself as being more reactive than proactive and you want to change this and start thinking and acting more proactive, how do you start? A mental model described by Stephen Covey, that has helped me a LOT(ta) is the Circles of Concern and Influence. Imagine, or even better, draw a circle on paper. This is your circle of concern. Then you write another smaller circle inside the first one. This circle is your circle of influence. This model helps You to see which circle You spend the most time, attention, and energy in. Reactive people pay more attention to the items that are just in their Circle of Concern — the stuff that we have little or no control over and the results will bring us in a negative mood and our focus results in blaming and accusing attitudes, reactive language, and increased feelings of victimization. Proactive people pay more attention in the circle of Influence. These can be things we have little or complete influence on. There are some things we can´t move like the influence of weather and people´s decisions. What you focus on grows - where is your focus? When you focus on your Circle of Concern, your Circle of Influence shrinks, and you lose energy on things you can´t control in any way. And not only does focusing solely on your circle of concern make you feel like a loser, but the resulting sense of helplessness also actually makes your circle of influence shrink. Focusing on things that you don’t have any control over, will stress you out. Little stress prepares your mind and body for performance. But if you’re stressed out about uncertainty all the time, then not-so-good changes start to happen in your brain that create a vicious cycle of reactive anxiety. And if that was not enough, chronic stress drops dopamine production, which our brains need to stay motivated and to take action. Another result of stress that comes from spending your energy and attention on your circle of concern primes your brain to see more problems than solutions and reduces your ability to see what is and isn’t in your control and drops your motivation to take action on the things You do have influence over. It’s a vicious cycle. When you on the other hand focus on your Circle of Influence, this circle expands, and it leads You to take action which gives you a positive feeling that leads to empowerment and more influence from your side. The result will be a positive change. Focusing on your circle of influence creates a virtuous cycle of action that not only leads to positive change on the items originally in that circle, but you also grow it! Things that were formerly just in your circle of concern will now be added to your circle of influence. How cool is that? Focusing on your circle of influence increases your circle of influence. Some tips how you can become more Proactive Take ACTION! (No matter how small). This will be the most powerful way. You’ll begin to show yourself that you can have an influence, which will kickstart a virtuous cycle of proactivity. Change your mindset and language. Look at your Circle of Influence. (See point 1 below) Remember, Your actions don’t have to be big. Whenever you face a challenge, break it down into the smallest parts possible and tackle each part one by one. It makes the problem less scary and more concrete. 1. Figure out what’s in your Circles of Concern and Influence and increase this circle Take 10 minutes and make a list of all the things that you worry about, for example, mentally purge and all your anxiety. Write them down on paper. This list represents your Circle of Concern. Take a 10-minute break and come back to your list. Then ask yourself point by point, “Do I have some influence over it?” Remember that the influence can be small! It canbe “send an email requesting advice about x concern.” Maybe You don´t get a response, but itis an action You can take to influence the outcome. If You can influence the outcome of something (even in a small way), You put it on your circle of influence list. If you havetrouble putting items on this list, take help from a friend for their input. It can be helpful to have someone with a more proactive mind on life if You easy focus on the negative. This will show you how you do have control over things in your circle of concern and You will find out that You have more influence than You think… 2. Watch your language How you speak (to yourself and others) guides how you see the world. To take a more proactive and less reactive posture towards life, watch your language for reactive or proactive phrases. If most of your language is reactive, you’re likely going to be more reactive. If it isproactive, you will be more proactive. It takes some work but changing your way of speaking will help to change your mindset. Here are some reactive phrases to eliminate from your language and replace it with a proactive one: I´ll try… I´ll do it (or I don´t do it). Trying is not an option and not an action. There’s nothing I can do… I choose to… That’s just the way I am…I have the power to change my behavior… He/she makes me so mad…I control how I respond to it… I have to… I prefer to… I can’t… I can do my best… I must… I will… You CAN take charge of Your life and boost Yourself by telling Yourself this daily: I am the force. I am the captain of my life. I can choose my attitude. I am responsible for my happiness and unhappiness. I am in the driver´s seat of my destiny, not only the passenger. I take initiative to make things happen. I think about solutions and options. I hope this article can help You to Be proactive with your study Be proactive with physical health Be proactive with mental health Be proactive with your time Be proactive with your work Be proactive with your words Be proactive with your friends Be always ready with everything you do! Remember that the first step to becoming PROACTIVE is that You chose to be active. You will only stay REACTIVE if You chose to be passive. PROACTIVE - DOING REACTIVE - BEING DONE TO Don´t wait for the opportunity to come Your way, Go out and grab it before it passes You by. Don´t be the person who REACTING when things happen to You, be the PREPARED one and think ahead, looking at possibilities & opportunities BEFORE they arrive rather than when it has reached You Being PROACTIVE is like surfing the wave of charge Being REACTIVE is waiting for the waves to break you! Chose to become a surfer and start surfing Your waves. To learn more from Lotta, you can visit her website and connect with her social media accounts; Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Linkedin. • 5 Surefire Steps To Overcome The #1 Cause Of Not Doing Or Having What You Truly Want

Written by Elsbeth Van Lienden, Founding Partner, The Indigo Elephant Advisory BV With over 30 years of international executive and boardroom experience, she helps leaders design future-ready organizations by integrating business architecture, leadership, culture, and human intelligence into practical, sustainable transformation. When I ask someone, anywhere in the world and from all kinds of backgrounds, ‘If you would have an honest look, wouldn’t you agree you can do better?’ 90% answers ‘Yes, I could’. Immediately followed by ‘But I don’t know how.’ There is a huge gap between knowing what you can or want to do and the actual doing, which hinders exponential growth in business as well as living an abundant life. So, what’s the problem!? The problem is in your mind. Let’s first make it clear, what really is the Mind? As you might know, we tend to think in pictures. When I ask you to think about your first car, your kid, or your favorite destiny in the world, you will immediately have a visual, although oftentimes subconsciously. But what is in mind, we don’t really have an accurate picture for that! Let me share one with you, a simple stick person created by the late Dr. Thurman Fleet, the founder of Concept Therapy. Imagine a circle divided by a straight line in the middle. The upper part is the conscious mind (also the thinking mind). The lower part is the subconscious mind (also the feeling mind). The two parts combined are what we call the mind. There’s also a body attached, but I’ll leave that out for now. Now imagine five short lines coming out of the upper part of the circle, like five hairs. These represent our senses - sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. The conscious mind usually gets its input through the five senses and is able to reject or accept the ideas, information, and thoughts that enter. It’s in here where my ideas get shape. The conscious mind is only formed after some 7 years after birth! Before that age, the mind looks a little different. Only the lower part of the two parts is present without the dividing line. The subconscious mind is wide open to receive anything! Important to know is that the conscious mind is not capable of accepting or rejecting. It must simply accept. There’s no other way. This means that all information enters into the young subconscious mind, unfiltered, and becomes truth once things are repeatedly put in there by parents, teachers, social media, television, friends, and so on. Let Me Share Two Examples that Illustrate What’s Happening Imagine growing up in an ultrarich family, with an abundant lifestyle, golden cups, several houses and cars, plenty of money, reading lots of books, and you get the picture. Your subconscious mind would be filled with ideas and beliefs about anything is possible, money is a good thing, work is nice, enjoy life, life is good, and so on. These beliefs will become your habitual way of thinking and being. Now imagine growing up in a working-class family, with parents who believe work is something that needs to be done to earn money, to have a vacation once a year, kind of dislike the bosses at the top, watch television a lot, highly opinionated about those who do have a lot of money, saying things like ‘money does not grow on trees. See the difference in what goes unfiltered into the subconscious mind? And anything going into the subconscious mind repeatedly becomes fixed as a habitual way of thinking and being. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is no right or wrong in both examples; those are just two extremes. It’s of no use to pinpoint better or worse since all people are made of the same stuff. We all originate from a divine source, and divine power is flowing to, through, and out of us (in the form of results). That is absolutely the same for all; we differ in the beliefs that we’ve inherited. We see our world and possibilities through the filter of our beliefs, habitual thoughts, and actions. What’s a Paradigm and How it is Preventing the Growth The set of fixed habits and beliefs in the subconscious mind is called a Paradigm. A paradigm is a mental program that controls all of your habitual behavior and guesses what; almost all of your behavior is habitual. This is what’s happening: the paradigm dictates your view of the world, of possibilities, of what’s your perception of normal. And it will always find ways to keep you stuck at this level of awareness because it wants everything to be the same. Getting you from birth to your coffin in complete safety. Isn’t that boring and also a kind of sad truth!? And to make things worse, the paradigm is thus mostly made up of the beliefs of someone else! They are not even your own beliefs, and they became yours up to the point that you believe you are your thoughts. Remember, you have thoughts. Now, let’s go back to the gap between knowing what you could be, do or have better and what you actually do. This is what usually happens. At first, you start to think about what you desire, what sets you on fire, what inspires you. You put a desired visual on the screen of your mind. This picture, however, is most likely not aligned with your paradigm, your fixed set of habits and beliefs. So doubt kicks in as soon as you are back in reality. “How can I do this? I’m not sure if I can do this. It’s not the right time. I first have to learn more. I am not confident. First, my kids need to grow up.” And so on! Your thoughts are turning towards the present, unwanted situation again. And since your thoughts create your reality, you’ll end up with more of what you don’t want. You need to change your thinking. Think only of the things you do want! At some point, the idea is in your awareness again, and you become more and more certain you do want to realize your desire, so you start going in the seemingly right direction. You start looking for possibilities outside of yourself. A next course, a book, a training, gurus, the 7 steps to becoming a millionaire, a sales training, or a next project that distracts you from what you really want. By wanting to solve the how you add more stuff to your thinking mind instead of impressing new emotions belonging to your desire upon the subconscious mind. You learn new things but lack the productive actions that will really move you forward. The paradigm prevents you from taking these actions. It has won again. There is only one thing that really helps to forever leave the unwanted reality behind: change the paradigm. This is the truth that will set you free! If you change the paradigm, you’ll change results. Always. Period! Changing the paradigm. You now know what a paradigm is, how it is created and what trouble it causes. If you ever wondered how come the sales team had the same training, and a few people are exceeding, and some don’t? Why the billions spent in the training industry make no real difference in output? You followed several coaching or training programs, yet results lack? Do you want to increase your monthly income, but you still haven’t? It’s in the paradigm. It’s of no use to do more training or whatsoever unless you change the paradigm first. This is also valid for organizations because they, too, have paradigms. Although I highly recommend you find help changing the paradigm because you don’t know what you don’t know, these five steps will get you moving in the right direction! 1. You first have to be very clear on what it is that you want. What do you want? Do you have a goal that really excites you? Something you’ve never done before and don’t know how to do it. Paradigms are easier to change when something is at stake or if you are sick and tired of results. I always advise organizations to stop the goals that add a small percentage to last year's results. That’s so boring and uninspiring! Second, you have to make a committed decision: is this goal a hell yes for me?! 2. You have to get clear on your habitual ways of thinking and behaving and consequently put in place new ways of thinking and being. A good way to start is to find out what you are resisting in pursuing this goal. What is it you don’t like? You’ll find clues of paradigms in there. Also, only focus on how you can do it. Make sure you impress the new goal, your new way of being upon the subconscious mind by getting emotionally involved in this new goal. 3. You have to act. You cannot just sit around and wait for the magic to happen. Life is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen. Once you decide which new habits and behavior will get you closer to your goal, you do and be them. The universe loves speed, so you immediately take action. The how will show up via the higher faculties unique to humans as for example, intuition. 4. When acting, you have to face the terror barrier. No matter how successful someone seems, we all have this barrier. Over and over again, although it becomes easier once it becomes a habit of breaking this barrier. This barrier is really the old paradigm screaming out loud that you have to stop what you are doing. That it is unsafe, what will people think? How can you be sure to pay the rent? You cannot just quit your C-level job. But of course, you don’t listen to this little voice in your head. You move forward. You stick to the plan. 5. Repetition, perseverance, and faith are what will do the magic. Successful people have their eye on the ball, and if they drop it, they don’t stop; they pick it up. They make good use of another higher faculty, the will. It’s not a matter of ‘this might happen, no, it will happen. The will to move through the barrier and to do what it takes, keep on finding paradigms to kick butt, have clear long and short-term goals, and do what is required. That’s it! Very simple, not necessarily easy, but for sure the only way to experience exponential growth in business and good fortune in life. There’s absolutely no need to stay stuck for yet another hour, week, month, year, or the rest of your life. Once on this path, changes will come rapidly. How would you feel if you truly live the life you desire? Lead an outperforming team? Have a meaningful impact on the world? What would you do if anything was possible? And you know anything is possible. It’s like Bob Proctors’ saying: "Change is inevitable, Personal growth is a choice." Don’t let the how, the money, the time, the children, the title, the whatever stop you! You are no different than anybody else; no matter where you are at in life, we all have the same infinite, abundant power to our disposable. Use it wisely because your time on this earth plane is not infinite! When you’ve read this article all the way to here, you want to take that as a sign (Tip: be aware of a variety of signs alerting you to all kinds of possibilities). • The Little Things Can Equal Big Things

Written by: Lauralee Schmidt, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. “Don’t sweat the little stuff” was a saying I always heard growing up. I think it came from a Chicken Soup book, I’m not sure, but I distinctly remember thinking I just shouldn’t be worried about little things that didn’t matter in life. I didn’t even know what those things were, but so be it. However, as I grew into an adult, I realized that the power is often in the little things, and maybe you should sweat them some. This rings true in auto care. Often, it’s the little things that save you from a big disaster. There are some things on a vehicle you should do regularly and not play around with. These things are all listed by the mileage from the manufacturer. It’s so easy to help aid in the longevity of your vehicle if you just go by the advice the people who made the car give you. It isn’t even a long list, and it’s just a comprehensive preventative list for you to best protect your investment. If your vehicle didn’t come with a book, you could always find your recommendations online. The most frequent maintenance item you will have to do is an oil change. Luckily, this service takes very little time out of your day and is cost-effective in most cases. There is the crazy price of the oil change for the Veyron that sits around $21,000, but unless you drive this supercar, your oil change probably rings in under a hundred dollars. You need to get this service done because the oil protects the internals of the car like water protects our bodies' organs. It needs to be freshened up from time to time due to it working and breaking down with each mile you drive. If you neglect this minor service, you will find yourself with a major engine issue at some point. I see it happen all the time, and it always is painful to tell someone they need a new engine when a $60 oil change would have been all they needed to avoid this. Save yourself a huge hassle, and hit your wallet by getting on a good oil change routine at your shop of choice. A basic thing you may have to do from time to time is air up your tires. It’s something you can do all by yourself, which I think always feels empowering. Sometimes the temperature outside goes wild, especially here in Ohio, and it causes tires to deflate or inflate, throwing off the pressure. Your car will usually alert you to this, and you can go get some air. Driving with uneven air pressure can lead to suspension issues, uneven tire wear, or create problems with the wheel, so you don’t want to cruise around too long with low air pressure. But, if you find yourself constantly at the air pump, I’d recommend you have your technician look at your tire. A puncture has most likely occurred, and you are leaking air. This needs to be attended to quickly to avoid further tire issues. Tires are the component that attaches you to the road, so keeping an eye on your tires is a fairly good idea. In fact, tires are a priority purchase in my eyes. I know they are a costly purchase. I must buy them too. But good tires keep my kid safe and the kids traveling around me safe. Whether you have teeny tiny tires or gigantic tires, you will have to replace them, so just start saving now. The cost of tires is not going down any time soon, and the alternative to not replacing tires in a timely manner is often not so good. Bald tires could lead to a blowout, which may create body damage to your vehicle. But even worse, you could get in an accident that so easily could have been avoided. One smaller service item to attend to that could lead to a larger issue if neglected is the Serpentine Belt. Make sure to check it for notches, rips, or concerning wear every now and then. Most manufacturers say a Serpentine Belt will last 60K-100K miles, so you may want to start paying better attention to your belt around this time. When belts become brittle or have tears, they can break. And if they break, they can sling around the internals causing all sorts of havoc. I’ve seen them get caught up in engines, break air conditioning components, and cause a slew of disasters that can range from minor to extensive. If you start to hear some slapping noises or squealing sounds coming from under the hood, that’s a good indication you may have a broken belt. If your belt is indeed broken, I don’t recommend driving any further. In some vehicles, you aren’t going to be able to go much further anyway, so save yourself potential damage and stop, call a tow truck, and get to a shop. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with a vehicle, and many of those things you could never control or prevent in a million years. But these are a few things that are in your control to keep you running smooth. From one driver to another, drive safely. • How To Forgive The Trauma You Can't Forget

Written by: Aden Eyob , Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Forgiveness is a challenging journey that can be exasperated when confronting and releasing deep-seated traumas in the path of least resistance. Think back to a painful yet persistent memory, perhaps of abuse, abandonment, or betrayal. Maybe you have attempted to reconcile with the memory through countless hours of mindfulness practices, self-love, or even therapy. Still, the reality is that some trauma memories are etched in your subconscious programming. Yet, there's still hope in sight, for the emotional attachment to the traumatic incident is reversible by allowing yourself to reflect and process the trauma through the, Five Stages of Grief Denial: equivalent to saying 'this can't be happening to me.' It helps you to survive the loss and not get swept up in the meaninglessness and overwhelm. Anger: In this stage, it looks at the 'why is this happening to me,' who is to blame—the focus shifts from denial to feeling rage. Allow yourself to experience the breadth of your anger, for when you allow it to surface, there is room for growth and healing. Bargaining: this phase is the 'negotiation stage' in which the pain feels so intense that you are willing to exchange it for another feeling. It can be tempting to bargain your way through the pain, but the healing starts when you allow yourself room to understand the depth of your pain and then let it move in and through you instead of finding a shortcut to joy. Depression: the focus here shifts from the past to the present moment in which you will experience feelings of emptiness and dense fog. Keep in mind that this form of depression is not linked to mental illness but from experiencing a traumatic loss. Acceptance: at this point, it's about coming to a place of peace. It's the space of healing, the place where you have come to reconcile the pain and let the memory live without the same voice or discomfort you once experience. It is saying I haven't forgotten, but I have forgiven the pain, person, and event, and now I dwell in acceptance. Last Light The question now is what one can do to heal. It boils down to forgiveness. Who or what do you need to release from the bondage of mental captivity. Remember, when you hold onto the trauma memory, you reaffirm the emotional pain and subsequent behavior. The magic comes with gently delving into your thoughts and challenging your belief systems which in turn will shift your emotions and behavior. Of course, this is not a one-pill solution, it takes months or even years to reach a state of true forgivingness, but the benefits are worth it in the long run. Remember to allow yourself to grieve with grace, for you are not timed on your healing. Cheers to your journey of forgiveness and whole-being! • Could Your Home Really Be The Key To Living Your Best Life?

Written by: Tanya Slater, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. What would you do if someone told you tomorrow that you only had a year to live? What would you say to the people who mean the most to you? Who are the people who mean the most to you? I think our perception of time and how we take for granted how long we have to enjoy this blessed human existence of ours actually stops us from living our life to its fullest. So many of us fear death, but what if we made it our friend and we respected and loved it for giving us an opportunity to explore just how much we are capable of? I’m sat here just now wondering why I treat my life so frivolously. So many people I love are experiencing the toughest of times right now, and for years, I’ve been the rescuer. You see, I’m an empath through and through, and I feel people’s pain—especially my loved ones. I also experience physical symptoms of pain when I see someone hurt themselves, even if it’s on TV. It’s become a part of my identity, but sadly to my own detriment. I’ve recently chatted with some of my nearest and dearest about this and also to a lovely lady who understands a lot about our energy. What I have come to realize is that everyone is going to be ok. That they will be OK because they are being given these opportunities to discover just how strong and resilient they are. That through their own pain, they are learning the lessons they need to learn to walk their own path and to see that they are fully capable of climbing these mountains and feeling proud of the view they get to see at the top. It is not my job to solve their challenges for them or to feel their pain with them. I am here simply to walk beside them, hold them in a safe space and let them find their own solutions. This role is valuable enough, and my ability to do this is all the personal validation I need. I do not need to rescue them or fix their problems to feel worthy. We all have our own mountains to climb and our own lessons to learn. Now I can see that this revelation is one of those lessons. Not trying to rescue or fix my loved one’s problems enables me to focus on my own life and what I am supposed to be doing. I am in a place now that I know I am supposed to be living. I do wake up every morning with a heart full of gratitude for the day I have been blessed with and the air I can breathe. So why then do I not treat the time I have with the respect it deserves? For me, it all comes back to lifelong habits of being busy but lacking clarity on what is important and, therefore, what we should be giving our time to. Well, no more. I am ready to live my life as if I were going to move on to the next phase of my existence. Whatever that looks like beyond the human realm. It's time to dance like no one is watching, sing like no one is listening, love like never before, and speak my truth to everyone every single day. So why am I sharing this, and what the heck does it have to do with decluttering? Well, I remember back to when I had a house full to the brim of ‘stuff I had accumulated over the years. I remember when I felt heavy and weighed down by all that stuff. My time was not my own because having all that stuff took work. Then there was all the stuff you couldn’t see, in the loft, in cupboards and drawers, in the shed. That weighed on me, too, even though I didn’t know it at the time. And then there was all the other stuff! The memories attached to my physical stuff, the stories and limiting beliefs I had formed and collected in my head, the people I had become accustomed to giving my time to but realized on my decluttering journey that they needed clearing too. Yes, I had a lot of ‘Stuff,’ and so do a lot of other people. But, I am here to tell you that if you are feeling overwhelmed, time-poor, and unable to focus. Perhaps lacking in self-worth and self-confidence and struggling to set and uphold healthy personal boundaries. Maybe even have negative relationships in your life, and you feel like you're not achieving the things you know you are capable of, like growing a successful business and more… I have found all of these to be symptoms of having and carrying around TOO MUCH STUFF! Do you know what’s exciting about that? You are fully capable of decluttering and mindfully clearing all the excess stuff in your home and your life, and you can improve every area of your life exponentially by doing so. Your environment really is the key to your best life. Creating a home that works for you can bring all the clarity you need to identify what is most important to you. You find the confidence to speak your truth to those around you and to make the decisions you need to make to live your best life! I’m not kidding when I say that this decluttering malarky is Magic! What would you do with all the extra time you could gain from mindfully clearing out all your excess stuff? If you need more clarity, a confidence boost, and more time to do the things you love with the people you love, then why not make a start and choose just one draw or spot in your home to sort through and declutter? Make sure you answer these 3 important questions first. What am I working towards? What is the purpose of my home? What is the purpose of this room? When you have those answers, you will be much better equipped to make a decision about an item as to whether it stays or it goes. Does it support you or bring you happiness, or has it served its purpose and can now be set free with gratitude? Decluttering is simple when you have a framework. However, it's not always easy. This is why so many of us can't face the task alone and why I love bringing people together and guiding them every step of the way so they can all enjoy and celebrate the magic decluttering brings together. I wish you luck on your clearing adventure and am always here for you if you have anything you would like to share or ask. • Do Boundaries Matter In A Physical Intimate Relationship?

Written by: Viloshni Moodley, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. An act of self-love is knowing your worth and value. Making the right decisions responsibly to prevent unwanted sexual health issues or possible traumas. Knowing and understanding yourself will allow you to know what your boundaries are. What are boundaries? Boundaries are usually an indication of where something starts and ends, e.g., a portion of land. In the same way, boundaries help people navigate through life knowing what they are comfortable with and how they want to be treated by others. Boundaries between partners are a healthy sign of a relationship. Often, it is our responsibility to teach people how to treat us, especially when starting a new relationship. It is good practice to ensure the person is aware of your non-negotiables and what is acceptable. Allowing disrespect at the beginning of a friendship or relationship can allow it to penetrate throughout the relationship, which sets in as a norm once the relationship progresses. The question of what came first , the chicken or the egg, same with the sperm speeds for the ova. Generally, a male should chase a female, and in same-gender relationships, the one who does the chasing is the one who takes the dominant role. You may be saying this is so outdated. A male is made to hunt. When you are the one who is always calling or reaching out, he becomes bored and does not have anything to challenge him. In this way, one can give up power by demonstrating neediness. Setting boundaries and taking ownership of our needs and feelings will make us realize that it is ok if they want to call, they would, or they would message if they wanted to. It is also perfectly acceptable if someone is busy and cannot do so. It does not mean we care any less, but we take control. Healthy relationships are dependent on maintaining personal boundaries that are communicated and understood between both individuals. Boundaries should not be rigid, and expect them to change as you journey through the different stages of the relationship. Guidelines On Key Areas To Set Healthy Boundaries Expectations – these need to be communicated clearly with detail to every aspect to ensure fulfillment to both parties. It is also great to have a check-in periodically to assess how you are fulfilling the expectations for each other. Non-negotiables – everyone has different thresholds based on their value and moral compass. Agree on what you will tolerate and not, e.g., lying, cheating, being shouted at, physical abuse, or mistrust as some examples. Financial – Money can easily become the poison in a relationship. Thus, decide on joint or separate bank accounts and how financial matters will be managed. Sexual – everyone has different preferences. You may have mismatched sex drives or want to be adventurous in the bedroom, and boundaries help you both navigate through any differences or similarities. If you or your partner are not sure of your sexual boundaries, then one of you will be unhappy by trying to fake your satisfaction in the bedroom to please the other. Agree on what is acceptable and what you may try as in experimenting. This should be fluid and not rigid unless there is a certain definite no, no’s that should be made known not to be brought up again for discussion. Past Relationships – talk about what you are comfortable sharing, and the rest should remain where it deserves to be in the past. It is the present that matters. Family – to maintain great relations with the family, agree on basic boundaries on each other’s family interaction. Friendships – Mutual boundaries of respect should be set as some friends maybe liked or disliked by your partner, and these should be taken into consideration. Decide on reasonable decisions as to who is allowed as friends within the relationship. Ambitions – no one can crush your dream or your goals—set boundaries related to these as they require time and focus. Children/Pets – these are usually hard and fast boundaries. This is a huge responsibility and change to the dynamics that need to be agreed upon. Time – as important as time together is, time apart is also needed to recharge. Make sure this is agreed upon. Social Media – agree on what access your partner has to your social media and vice versa. Communication apps, tracking apps, calendar apps – all of this is part of boundaries. The relationship may not last, but social media is permanent, so consider these carefully. Breakup – If the relationship becomes strained, will there be a cooling-off period, what will the living arrangements be during this time, when all else fails, who stays and who goes, etc. This is not the nice part, but it needs to be clear. How To Set Your Boundaries Know your boundaries – it is worth taking the time to identify what are your boundaries are. Once you know them, you can communicate them to your partner with ease. Choose when to discuss them – do not put off discussing your boundaries once you have identified them, especially if it is a new relationship. Ensure that both you and your partner do not have any distractions. Adequate focus and contribution to the topic of discussion with an open mind will be required. Make them clear – To have a mutual understanding, it is important to prevent any grey areas or ambiguity, best to keep them clear and concise. When communicating your boundaries use the word ‘I’ instead of ‘You”. Allow for compromise – We all make mistakes. Whilst some boundaries are non-negotiables that you will not accept if broken, give your partner some room for innocent mistakes unless they continue to disregard your feelings. Create a love agreement – this can be used as a reference when an unpleasant situation arises. It can capture the aspects of the relationship to manage the relationship. People change, relationships change, boundaries change, do not be afraid to review and discuss as you journey along. If it is something you find hard to do, reach out for guidance, I will be glad to guide you. For more information, follow me on Facebook , Instagram and visit my website ! Read more from Viloshni! • 3 Steps To Soothe A Troubled Mind

Written by: Heidi Jennings, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. John Lennon asks for help to get his feet back on the ground, and Robbie Williams reveals his head speaks a language he doesn’t understand. Rob Thomas says he isn’t crazy, just a little unwell, and Elton John guesses about why we call it the blues. Generations of like-minded souls are serenaded and comforted by lyrics that remind them it’s okay to feel lost, sad, or unhinged sometimes as a normal part of the human condition. Mental health is a hot topic these days and spoken about so much more openly than in days past. We are learning that packing up our troubles in an old kit bag and smiling is not always the most healthy approach to dealing with our bad days. Bringing our struggles out into the open is now accepted and encouraged at a time when anxiety and depression appear to be at an all-time high. Perhaps you’ve dragged yourself to the doctor to explain you’re feeling down and just need something to take the edge off. The doctor nodded sympathetically while hastily scrawling a prescription for anti-depressants or anti-anxiety medication in five seconds flat. They didn’t have the time to delve into what is really going on because your allocated 10 minutes was up, and well, a pill will fix it! Or will it? In reality, those little white pills do little aside from placing a misty fog over the black clouds rumbling below. Somewhere and somehow, our approach to healing a troubled mind has gone very, very wrong. Step into my office, and I will explain how to put it right. The first step is to understand the fascinating connection between the brain and the gut. I could spend hours on the subject, explaining how 90% of our serotonin (happy hormone) is produced in the gut, and for every signal the brain sends to the gut, the gut sends nine signals back to the brain. I will happily tell you how to replenish your good gut bacteria so the serotonin can produce healthy quantities of melatonin to give you deep sleep and a rested mind. I will draw diagrams about what happens in the intestines when a stomach stripped of its essential acids can’t break down, digest, and absorb food correctly and how this affects the brain. Restoring a healthy gut and therefore soothing a troubled mind starts with eating whole, nutrient-dense foods packed with probiotics, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These include fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, and whole grains. Grow leafy greens and herbs in your garden and eat them unwashed to flood your gut with elevated biotics and to make your insides sparkle. Steer clear of troublemakers that will greedily devour beneficial gut bacteria, such as caffeine, alcohol, sugar, stress hormones, food sensitivities, and medications. Secondly, you must teach your body how to sleep correctly so your hormones can recalibrate. Increased cortisol (alert hormone) raises blood sugars and overstimulates the brain, leading to over-thinking and anxiety. Increased adrenaline (stress hormone) places the body into flight or fight (survival) mode, pushing the adrenal system into exhaustion and leading to feelings of depression. Deep sleep will allow your hormones to perform as they should and your body to feel safe. When the body feels safe, the mind can rest. Finally, drill down into those bothersome feelings and figure out what is fuelling them. Whether it’s poor lifestyle choices, a toxic relationship, or a job you detest, you must identify the root cause of your suffering and take the necessary steps to address it. This may involve some tough decisions and courageous action but is an essential part of evaporating the clouds and healing the mind. A life free from restless, sad, and anxious thoughts is yours for the taking, but you must start paying attention. Eat good food for a healthy gut, get deep, restful sleep, and address the root cause of your stress. These three areas are the powerhouse behind great mental health and will do more than any little white pill ever will. It’s time to get this message out to the masses. Perhaps I need to have a chat with Robbie and Elton. Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or visit my website for more info! Read more from Heidi! • Kick-off Your Shoes And Stand Up!

Written by: Mick Breen, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. You are probably reading this whilst sat down and most likely with shoes on your feet. Your shoulders are rolled forward, and your head is sitting in front of your neck, looking at your computer screen or mobile phone. Am I right? Today has slowly become the most common position for the average human. The human body simply isn't built to sit all day and be inactive. It is a magnificent piece of machinery that is capable of extraordinary things. The sad fact is that many of us spend more time sitting than we do sleeping. We sit to work, sit to eat, sit to drive, sit to be entertained, and sit to relax. We live in a sitting culture, wherein, Wherein in most circumstances, it is rude to be standing up. It all starts once we enter school; at the age of 5, we are given a full-time desk job, told to sit still, shut up, and don’t fidget. Once school is out of the way, the majority of humans progress into another full-time desk job, but at least we get paid for this one, right? It's lucky you get paid for this job because you will most likely be using this money to buy expensive, ill-fitting shoes and then fixing your aches and pains from these sedentary jobs. Humans are designed to move! Evolution puts human beings at the top of the food chain through their ability to move well and move often. There is no better way to fix an injury, pain, or restriction than just simply moving. Too many times, we go to see our GP for musculoskeletal injuries, and we are told to rest and take some anti-inflammatories. This isn't taking anything away from your local GP, and it is just the fact that they are not specifically trained in this area, especially in soft tissue injuries. For the majority of injuries, your GP should be your very last resort or only if you are in need of a stronger pain killer (not advised). Being told to "rest" is the worst possible solution for the body. Resting stops blood flow, movement, muscle activation, joint mobility, etc. For example, if you tweaked your back by simply bending over to pick up your groceries or just by putting on your shoes, all of the muscles around the site of injury will spasm up to try and protect the spine. The body has now gone into "protection" mode, and it is the spasming of these muscles which are causing the majority of the pain. So, if you were to go to work, sit at your desk for the next eight hours, and basically do nothing by sitting still, these muscles will just stay in their spasmed state. The quickest and safest way to decrease pain is to simply move, and if you are only able to stand up, excellent, that's all you need to do to help ease the pain. We are taught that going to the gym will help improve your everyday health and fitness, but these 1-2 hours of movement each day does not counteract the average 13 hours of sitting a human does each day. We learn how to move, lift, and perform with efficient technique at the gym, but somehow most of our injuries occur in the gym. This is down to the fact that we are “prepping” our bodies for the gym with our sedentary habits. Imagine rocking up to the gym with the freedom in your joints and the mobility gained from an active day, instead of heading straight for the foam roller to unstick your stiff body. By improving your movement throughout the day, you actually improve your performance in the gym, not the other way around. Once we have finally started to stand up and move, there is, unfortunately, another problem that arises. The moment we start to walk as a toddler, our feet are suddenly wrapped up in pieces of stiff, rigid rubber and leather and barely ever see the light of day again. If humans were designed to wear shoes, why were we not born with them on our feet? The human foot is one of the most complex, beautiful, and important parts of the body and yet has become one of the most problematic and damaged areas today. Poor footwear choices, an excess of sitting and poor current treatment options create a perfect storm where our feet have come under attack. Nobody seems to be getting the simple advice needed to avoid foot problems and when they do seek treatment, it focuses on controlling symptoms instead of addressing the root cause of the problem. This palliative system has led to widespread problems with feet, and we need a solution. The majority of shoes today are designed more for fashion than function. The two biggest flaws that shoes have are to do with the size of the toe box (where your toes sit) and the heel pitch (the height drop from your heel to toes). Over time as your feet are squashed into a shoe that doesn’t actually look like a foot, your toes start to adapt to the lack of space and cause all kinds of problems such as – foot pain, lack of balance, loss of proprioception, rolled ankles, plantar fasciitis, etc. and this is only pain associated with the feet. Your feet are your body's foundation and connection to the ground. Without these structures working efficiently, everything else above the feet will be compromised in some way. E.g., if you are wearing a high heel of any size, your center of mass is shifted forward, so your body then has to overcome this by shifting other parts of your body into positions it is just not capable of in the long run. The human body is a highly adaptable machine and can withstand some heavy pressure from poor positions, overloading tissues, and poor mechanics, but eventually, it will start to talk you in the words of pain. Together, both sitting down and wearing shoes have slowly transformed your body into a tight, stiff, inactive, unoiled, faltering machine. So, if you could just do two things today, all I ask is that you Stand Up and Kick-Off your Shoes! Follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and visit my website for more info! • An Interview With Transformation Life Coach Martina Hrubes-Rios

Martina specializes in Transformative Life Coaching working with tools and practices that help shifting one’s mindset, empowering her clients to live a happier and more fulfilled life. As a Life Story Coach, she helps her clients reach their higher potential by rewriting the persistent life stories that keep them stuck or playing out the same life script repeatedly. Besides Individual Coaching, she offers a monthly online coaching Bootcamp called: “Rewrite your Life Movie.” Author Martina Hrubes-Rios Who is Martina? I am Transformation Life Coach living in Byron Bay, Australia, with my husband, who is originally from Buenos Aires. We recently left the big city of Sydney, where I was living for 17 years, seeking a more life-balanced lifestyle. I was born in Switzerland, and my parents are Czechoslovakian, so I have a multicultural background. Originally, I came to Australia to backpack for 6 months and then ended up never leaving. Throughout the years, I worked within business development in the Design & Building Industry but changed course into the mental health industry to help others to empower themselves to live a more fulfilling life. I guide my clients to build a growth mindset and living more in alignment with their true selves. My husband, as a Keto Coach, is very passionate about health and nutrition and started his own wellness business. Through that, I have expanded my knowledge around how much our mental and physical health is connected. So together, we guide our clients through a holistic process of body-mind-spirit transformation. It is rewarding and interesting how this industry is growing, and luckily more and more people want to learn about themselves and how to live a healthier life. What is it that you do for your clients? As a mindset coach, I use principles diving into the power of the thoughts, Be-Do-Have strategies, cognitive behavior therapy, and NLP. However, I blend this knowledge with a holistic approach of body-mind-spirit to help them understand how we are the true creators of our own life. Transformation coaching really works by uncovering core beliefs that are shaped by the conditioning of our identity. So, it is about transforming your life and achieving your goals working from the inside out. Other than that, I am currently offering a structured Discover Your Life Purpose Program that takes the client through 10 steppingstones to learn to live more in alignment with themselves and discover their gifts and the true meaning of life. The outcome of this program is for clients to get to rediscover themselves, free from programming, other people’s expectations, and conditioning, so they can start taking aligned actions and make healthier choices for themselves without the influence of their environment. Overall, my work is all about empowering the client to know how to find the right answers within themselves, believing in themselves, and guiding them to successfully achieve their life goals. Who should hire/work with you? Anyone who needs this right now! Lol Typically, my clients who are looking for a guiding hand are feeling either stuck, unsure about their direction, overwhelmed, stressed out, or even anxious about their current life situation. Some want to rediscover who they really are, as they have been getting lost in their life roles, and some are wanting to build new positive habits and learn how to tap into their inner power by shifting their mindset. Coaching is great to help you through a turbulent time. However, high achievers already have known this for years, that mentors and coaches will expand your capabilities even if you know what you want and just need an accountability partner who can push you to get there. What is your big goal? Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? A lot could happen in 10 years! I am a Visioner, entrepreneur, adventurer, and teacher by nature, so I see myself expanding in those areas, sharing my innate gifts with the collective. I am currently enjoying running retreats and would like to expand this kind of work. I also love meeting and collaborating with other like-minded healers and coaches. I download lots of creative ideas and ambitions and sometimes rather need to step back and sit on them before I take on another project and instead remember to enjoy the present moment. Now I learned that by living in alignment with myself, I need to trust and follow the synchronicities as I am focused on living in my purpose and what makes me feel good. However, as an entrepreneur and co-founder of my husband’s business, MyKetoTreats, I would like to see our products and services combined make a bigger impact on helping others living better lives, creating wealth that we can re-invest into matters that we care for, such as conscious living and innovative sustainability projects. I recently decided to further my knowledge within the psychological science path, so I am excited to see where that takes me next and how this sector will develop over the next decade. Maybe I write a book one day or become a keynote speaker? Lol. Lastly, I would like to travel again once we are allowed and spend more time cooking, dancing, laughing, and meditating, lol. What are your top 3 tips for transforming your life that you could share with our readers? I love this question and could go on talking about this for hours, hmm let me think, okay, so how about these 3. 1. Awareness Start practicing awareness in all areas of your life, such as what are your triggers, repeating thoughts you have, what emotions follow your thoughts, reactions, what makes you feel excited, what triggers fear, and why. Take yourself under the loop. Building Awareness is the first step in building a Growth Mindset. After that comes changing your perspective and taking aligned actions. 2. Past Stories What stories are you telling yourself? What do you hear yourself telling yourself over and over? Is it an empowering story? If not, reframe it for a better one. Change the perspective of a past negative experience and practice seeing the blessings in the curses. Again, this is a longer topic, but most people are stuck in past stories, and therefore their mindset stays also there. Amongst others, I am certified as a Life Story Coach, so it is one of my favorite subjects as it can really change your life. But I will stop it right there for now. 3. Accept Change Change is good. Change helps you to grow. Sometimes life forces you into change because you resist it until it is too late. It is outside the comfort zone where the magic happens. Our brain is wired to protect us from the unknown, so fear is just an “alarm system’ to keep us to what we know. Learn to ride the wave of change. How does your work relate to what is currently going on in the world, and have you seen an increase in client demand? Yes, absolutely, thank you for asking; with everything that has happened in the last couple of years and with the rise of uncovering dark secrets, people are experiencing a lot more anxiety, fear, uncertainty, loss of control, losing trust in what they knew and are either awakening or searching for meaning in their life. There is a long way to go to collectively empower the individual, and we need a lot more lightworkers, healers, and coaches to raise the planet's vibration to live in a happier place, one that we care for each other, innovate together, and give everyone the equal opportunities to be healthy and wealthy without being greedy and destructive to the environment. It is a stretch for some to have this optimistic outlook but remember everything in history was a utopia until it wasn’t anymore. That is called evolution, and it is in every individual’s hand to make the right choices for themselves and the planet every day, which will eventually direct which way we are going collectively.
