- Love Is A Letter
Written by: Veronica Sanchez De Darivas, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Writing is an art, a form of expression that requires deep understanding of the mind, but more than that, it requires the acknowledgment of the emotional layers hidden within us. Several studies have shown mental health improvement in people when they write about their feelings, ideas and thoughts. I have been writing and I have been reading most of my life. I am always happy to spend time in bookstores and I love the smell of new books. Last year I published my first book on Amazon, book collaborations followed this year, and the creation of my journals, available on Amazon too. One of the most rewarding book collaborations that came my way this year was the series Letters of Love, created and published by Melissa Desveaux, an Australian publisher, who is now helping others to bring their personal stories to written form. The title Letters of Love appealed to me because I am a Spiritual Awakening Teacher and love is at the core of what I do and experience daily. When I got in contact with Melissa, I knew that this book was going to be special and it was. My letter was addressed to my twins, a boy and a girl who are 18 years old now. I wanted to leave them with some words to read later in life and realise how exceptional our life together was. Ten other authors contributed to the book, each one with a unique story to tell. Letters of Love, a collection of uplifting letters from around the world became an international bestseller and it was even translated into French, which was another bestseller. This book “keeps giving” as one of the contributor authors would say (David Vine) as it has now been selected as a Christmas present for a project in Africa, meaning that one hundred children will receive the book along with a card from some of the authors as a gift. Just thinking about this, makes me feel grateful and at peace. As you can see, my experience with book one of this series was so enriching that when Melissa Desveaux announced the making of book number two I decided to participate as a contributor author again. Book number two Letters of Love, Inspiration, Gratitude, and Hope was launched on the 10th of October and it became a bestseller too and as book one, it is available in bookstores as well. My letter this time is to my husband, my parents, my siblings, and my family in general. I also give my vision of gratitude, inspiration, and hope and in that sense, it is a letter for everyone to read and find uplifting words in it. One big surprise for my family, friends, and people who speak Spanish is that my letter was translated into this language and included in the book. Our publisher and fellow author Melissa Desveaux wrote a letter to her beloved stillborn daughter and another letter to mothers who have experienced pregnancy loss. Carol Ann Gvineria wrote about the power of really listening to others and how important this is for our relationships. Jovaniah Nastili wrote a letter to her younger self and about overcoming traumatic experiences. Pallavee Periapayen celebrates women empowerment and wrote a letter to some powerful women she sees as inspirational role models. Kerri-Ann Sheppard has written a compassionate letter to domestic violence sufferers. Lovina Sunassee wrote to family and friends expressing how grateful she is and another letter to the girl she was. Zachary Shiloh, the only male author in this book, wrote a letter to his podcasting community showcasing the power of storytelling. Every author has a personal and unique style making reading this book an interesting and touching experience. One of the most fulfilling aspects of this book is that all proceeds go towards the Pink Elephant Support Network, an organisation helping people who experience pregnancy loss. I have written this article to share with you how love presents itself in different ways and how writing about it is one of them. Love is the “glue” that keeps everything together, it is what moves us, it is what drives me. Love is always the answer. - How Nature-Based Colour Therapy Can Help You Ease Anxiety This Autumn
Written by: Agnes Gomori, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. We look at autumn as the last hurray of the year, reviewing the to-do list we created in the new year, focusing on ticking off a few more actions before getting ready for the festive season. The clock goes back; we have less daylight and the temperature drops. We reason with ourselves that it’s okay to spend more time indoors, even though it affects our mood and energy negatively. One way to combat low mood and anxiety is to spend some time daily outdoors, surrounded by trees. Breathing in the crisp autumn air while looking at the vibrant coloured leaves can be the first step in elevating our mood. It’s the perfect time of the year to start a new habit of mindful walking. Autumn walks in the forest will not only boost our immune system, but the magical colours of the leaves will act as Mother Nature’s colour therapy. During mindful walks, we can consciously involve our five senses; our eyesight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. This helps us to be in the present, not just with our thoughts and feelings, but with our body, too. I use mindful walk and talk sessions with my clients to help them deal with their anxiety. I know first-hand how much it can contribute to our overall well-being. It helped me throughout the years whenever I felt overwhelmed, including recovering from burnout. Walk and talk sessions are not about exercising outdoors, although inevitably there are physical benefits to it too. It’s about slowing down being in the present and allowing us to feel our emotions; not running away from it. Our mental health will thank us if we regularly surround ourselves with the sound of nature, away from the noise of civilization. When we are walking and talking, our ability to reflect increases. We can see things from a different perspective and it helps in decision making. Hearing the soothing sounds of nature has an instant calming effect. The vibrant visual feast of the autumn leaves encourages creative thinking and breathing in the fresh air helps us to clear our mind. It also helps us to measure how connected or disconnected we are at the moment. When we are disconnected from the Self, we tend to just rush through a walk, without noticing the details of our surroundings. It feels ‘scary’ to slow down because then we can’t hide behind our self-created busyness, but when we practise mindful walking, we need to face our thoughts, our emotions. It’s not uncommon that I need to ask the client to slow down. Some of us are so used to rushing through our day, we forget how to enjoy the present moment. When we slow down, it forces us to look inside and deal with our problems. We are more open to talking through our pressing issues whilst we’re out in the fresh air. The way you connect with yourself, others and ultimately with the world can be much deeper. Being out in the open allows us to be more resourceful in our thinking. It is literally thinking outside of the box (room). Walking next to each other creates a better rapport between the coach and the client. Some people find it hard to open up in a traditional consultation room or via a zoom video. Waking side by side is less intimidating to the client, as the coach is not looking at them directly. It can also benefit people who suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). Even just 20 minutes of daily walk can help to preserve a healthy level of vitamin D. Growing up in a city surrounded by mountains, lakes and vast forests, the love of nature has been imprinted in me. Hiking, running, and wild lake swimming would be part of my life and when I started practising martial arts in my teens, I discovered the power of meditation. We eagerly practised it with friends and found it was especially effective when we did a short meditation outdoors. Until then, I always focused on the physical activity itself. When I took my time and slowed down to observe my surroundings, I felt much calmer, grounded, and centred. After moving to London, I introduced some of my new friends to mindful walking and talking and it made sense to offer it to my clients when I started my coaching and healing practise. There is something therapeutic about discussing pressing matters while walking side by side and even embracing silence together. Instead of a vigorous workout, mindful walk and talk sessions aim to create a mind-body-soul balance gently by reconnecting to the Self and being centred and grounded. Conclusion Nature helps us to focus on the things which we can be grateful for. Building a habit of mindful walking not only connects us with nature better but with ourselves, too. Even just practising it once a week has proven health benefits such as increased energy levels, improved mood, and better sleep. Mother Nature gives us the ultimate therapeutic background, and combining your walk with coaching can help you keep your anxiety at bay. - Your Mindset Is In Your Body, Too – On Sexual Fantasies And How To Snap Out Of Self-Doubt
Written by: Irina Krasko, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Have you ever thought of why you get trapped in emotions and feelings such as anxiety, nervousness or self-doubt? Why do you sometimes feel uplifted, ready to conquer the world and sometimes little triggers can pin you down like heavy hammers? With no easy way out... Of course, there are different factors such as sleep deprivation, bad food choice or lack of exercise. But you CAN absolutely, always take control over your mind, no matter what was in that sandwich you had for lunch. You just need to learn how. I strongly believe that the key to improving your results and the quality of life, in general, lies in your ability to control your mind. Why? You’ve certainly noticed how your emotions impact your ability to think clearly, right? Your thinking, in turn, impacts the actions you take (or don’t take) and the “quality” of those actions. And your actions produce your RESULTS, shaping the quality of your life. See the chain? THE CLOSED-LOOP AND SEXUAL FANTASIES But your mindset isn’t just about your thoughts, it’s a circular connection with your body, i.e. emotions & feelings. They work in tandem. Any emotion arises from an instant thought and your brain sends a signal to your body to secrete corresponding hormones, making you feel happy/sad/worried/excited and so on. And to close the loop, your emotions send a signal back to your brain, informing your thoughts. When you feel happy, optimistic - your mind is clear and creative, you’re more confident and ready to take bold actions. When you feel worried, anxious - your inner critic wakes up and starts all that negative chatter in your head, insisting that you’re not good enough, not ready, will be judged by others and all in that fashion. Sexual fantasy is a great example of this. Just think about it - by just thinking of that hot guy/girl or bringing back the memory from last night, your body receives the signal to get ready for the experience as if it happens real-time. And what’s more, once your body is “tuned”, all your thoughts are headed towards one direction. HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OVER YOUR MIND The holistic approach to building a strong mindset is to engage your body, too. Merely working on your thoughts isn’t enough, especially if you want quicker results. You need to do it in tandem with your body. Your emotions always show up through physical sensations. When you’ve got that feeling of anxiety or nervousness, pay close attention to what physical sensations it creates and where exactly you feel it in your body. Is it in your chest? In your stomach? Maybe in your head? What is the sensation like? Is it heavy? Hot or warm? Moving or static? Maybe there’s a sound? Or a specific smell? When you are more aware of those sensory acuities, you can start intentionally shifting them - making it lighter/brighter/cooler etc. You’d be surprised how easy it is to change the state of your body! And when your body feels better, it will start sending different signals to your brain. EXAMPLE One of the simplest examples of this is your posture. Check what it’s like when you’ve got self-doubting thoughts... Now bring the midpoint of your chest 2 inches up and your shoulders down. Then extend and slow down your breath cycle. How differently does it feel? We often (unconsciously) take our inner state as something that’s been controlled by some external forces. Sometimes even proactively passing that control over to other people or circumstances - boss, spouse, politics, weather… I want to remind you that you’re the only captain of your mind, and being able to steer it in the right direction on demand is arguably the most important skill you can develop. - Good News For Career Growth
Written by: Dianne McKim, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. So many things have changed over the last year and a half, especially as it relates to careers and employment. The statistics are astounding. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics , Of the 16.9 million people unemployed in July, 9.6 million (57 percent) were unable to work because their employer closed or lost business due to the pandemic. Among the unemployed, the vast majority of those on temporary layoff in July were unable to work because of the pandemic (78 percent). There is hope for the future despite these statistics. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are projections for various occupations over the next 10 years (2020-2030). The top 3 occupations with the highest percentage of projected growth are personal care and service occupations 21.7%, healthcare support occupations 23.1%, food preparation and serving related occupations 19.6%. These growth projections tell us there is good news. You can take actions today to determine your career growth and path. Perhaps you are considering a career change or just want to develop or increase your skills and abilities. This is a great time to work on these things. Assessments Know thyself. Assessments can really help you learn things about yourself. There are assessments to help you know more about your personality, your values, your strengths, and more. As a Strengths Champion Certified Coach, I have seen how helping someone understand their talents and strengths can help them identify the best career path, become more confident, and grow in their excitement about their future. Confidence We all need it. We can all have it. Confidence is not something you are born with. It is something you can develop and grow in overtime. Sometimes confidence can come along when you practice. We all can feel awkward when trying something new, but the more we do it, the better we get and our confidence naturally grows. Setting goals for yourself and then taking actions to achieve those goals will help build your confidence. Resume Your background, experience, and education are all part of your resume. Being able to construct all of these on a document representing your best self certainly takes some skill. More importantly, it takes a true understanding of what you bring to the table so you can express it incredibly well. This document needs to cause the person reading it to be so moved they have to speak with you. The resume won’t get you the job, but it should get you the interview. Keep in mind, whatever you put on the resume must be accurate and true. You don’t ever want an employer to discover you lied on that document and then be faced with dismissal. These three areas, assessments, confidence, and resumes, are just a few of the components you can be working on now so you are ready for the next step in your career. As with many things in life, getting some assistance can really help you understand embrace all you have to offer. - A Beacon Of Hope For Type 2 Diabetics - How To Cultivate A Wellness Mindset
Written by: Kim McKay I remember the day I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I was sitting in the waiting room at the doctor’s office and I felt good. So when he told me that the results of my most recent blood test confirmed that I was a type 2 diabetic. The world stopped for a moment. I was shocked, overwhelmed and not sure what to do next. I did not feel any different and was not experiencing any of the symptoms of diabetes. At that time, I was told to change my diet and get more exercise and that he would check my blood sugar again in three months. Many people when they first get diagnosed with type 2 diabetes don’t know where to turn or what to do next. They start doing research and find conflicting advice and information which creates confusion. They start thinking about all of the horrors stories heart attacks, kidney problems, amputations. The complications that come with diabetes play like a tape over and over in their head. The tape is relentless. There is no cure. What is missing from this narrative is the good news; many people can make diet and lifestyles changes and greatly improve their diabetes and avoid complications. Diabetes can be reversed and successfully managed. I know first-hand that this is possible because I followed the steps I was taught and was able to lose 40 lbs, increase my activity level and keep my blood sugar within target. The goal is to stay off of medications for as long as possible. I was one of the lucky ones because I had access to diabetic education in my community and after my experience I decided to help others and become a coach. I combined my diabetic education with some of my coaching frameworks to build a business that supports women who struggle with high blood sugar even though they take medication or on insulin. Not everyone gets diabetic education when they are first diagnosed. The truth about having diabetes is we look for answers in books and on google some of us go to a dietician; we spend time with specialists and in the wee hours of the night we are worrying about everything. We look for the answers outside of ourselves. We lose sleep, we isolate, we feel ashamed and sometimes we even feel like giving up. These added stresses lead to increased insulin resistance and higher blood sugar levels. Our body has the ability to heal naturally and your mindset is the key to this transformation. Mindset includes your thoughts, beliefs, actions and behaviours. You get to decide if you will embrace a wellness mindset or you believe you are doomed because of your diagnosis. We know from looking at cancer patients those who get support and see the possibility of healing do better during the course of their treatments and once treatment is done. Your birthright is to be healthy and to avoid suffering with the complications of diabetes. But in order to become a healthier version of you it is critical that you change the way you think of diabetes and how you care for yourself each and every day. If your numbers are high you simply adjust. The readings do not define you. Testing gives you information and allows you to make healthier choices. A wellness mindset informs your decisions so that you can change your meal plan and increase your activity level. But what if you had the confidence that no matter what happens each day you have a tool or strategy that will make your day to day care effortless, ease your worry and you started enjoying your life today? What if you decided to give up the struggle and surrender to a new path? What activities have you been leaving behind because you do not feel well? People are resilient. The pandemic has shown us that shifts are required that the path to wellness has ups and downs and is not a straight line. Success is possible. Here are the five steps for developing a wellness mindset; I use with my clients to help them change their perspective about type 2 diabetes: Decide today that you are going to make your day to day care your number one priority Accept that you have a chronic condition that can be managed and that you can participate in all the activities that give you joy and bring you happiness Each day make one decision that contributes to your health Develop an awareness of the obstacles in your path and develop a plan to overcome these Build a wellness network – that can provide support and up-lift you when days are hard and you have challenges I created BALANCE my signature group program to support others that are on this journey and need guidance and a step by step plan. You are not ALONE. Many doctors tell you, you can self-manage this disease. This simply is not true. If it was the rate of reversal and pre-diabetics would be going down and that is not the case. You need to know the steps that will keep you healthy and you need to integrate them into your life. Not everyone struggles with the same challenges when it comes to their diabetes however there are common themes and the key is to find the solutions that work for you. Personally, when I decided to be open to new things I found hobbies I really enjoyed. I tried new recipes that were delicious and kept me feeling satisfied. I discovered that I was using food to help me deal with stress in my life and decided to become more active instead. Imagine your life without worry, anxiety, stress and overwhelm so that you stay motivated to make the health and lifestyle changes you need to make to keep your blood sugars stable and within target. How would that feel? You can create your own individualized wellness plan to support you on your journey and recovery. You deserve to be living every day in joy, stress-free, practicing self-compassion and self-care. You matter! Don’t let diabetes defeat you! There is HOPE, all you need is a new way, shift your mindset, find the tools and strategies that will support you. Reclaim your wellness today and do not settle for anything less than a fulfilling life. For more info, follow Kim on Facebook and visit her website! - 5 Steps To Becoming More Self-Assured
Written by: Edmund Ellison, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I remember listening to a client tell me in a strategy session one day , ‘I can’t look potential clients in the eye. I feel a sense of shame, like I’m not good enough. My hands tremble, and I feel dread even thinking about going live or speaking to people. Please help me. I feel stuck, and I don’t know what to do’. It struck me deeply at the situation they found themselves in. I recall thinking. I felt so sorry for them. They have a great gift that they want to use to empower others, and they feel trapped by their own mind. Words have such a powerful and pervasive impact on us. The right words can lift us up. The wrong ones can cause despair. When we are younger, we take on the values and beliefs of our parents. We are shaped by our experiences, and they leave an imprint on us. So, it made me feel incredibly sad after doing an advanced hypnotherapy session with that client. I took her back to the memories that caused her to feel this way. What I learned was that her mum didn’t pay her any attention. She told her she wasn’t good enough and kept her away when friends were over. She was empowered to reframe those memories and help her move past them. To recognize that she was an adult living through the eyes of a child who felt stuck and didn’t need to allow those beliefs to keep her stuck any longer. And I wonder when you hear the word stuck, how does it make you feel? Most of us don’t ever want to admit we’re stuck because being an entrepreneur means figuring things out for ourselves. We all have our pride. According to Dictionary.Cambridge.Org, the definition of stuck is ‘unable to move, or set in a particular position, place, or way of thinking.’ Most people are not aware they are stuck. They are solution aware, so they look externally to solve their problem on Google or Youtube, and they’ll type something similar to how to get fully booked. There is an overload of information out there. However, the real question to ask here is, will this solve the root problem of what’s causing someone to be stuck? So let’s delve into that by getting you to start really thinking. What if I told you that you have approx. 50,000 thoughts every day which are reinforcing your beliefs. Edmund, why do I need to know that? Good question. Let me explain it like this to you. If you imagine that every day you blink, you are largely unaware of this unconscious habit that you have. Most people are not aware because it’s not something they think about, yet they do it. So, if I told you that the average person blinks approx. 15-20 times per minute, and that worked out at 900 an hour, 14,400 a day, 100,800 a week, and approx. 5.2 million times a year, what would you say? Now, I’m willing to bet that you are not aware of any of this and that these figures might take you by surprise. You might even ask yourself; how could I do something this much without being consciously aware of it, and if I am doing that every day, what else am I doing without realizing? So back to your beliefs. If you believe something which is anchored deep inside you, it’s having an influence on your decisions because your thoughts are linked to those beliefs. People avoid doing the things they hate, and if we believe, for example, that we’re not good enough, then our minds will reinforce this. In fact, our view of the world will be shaped by it. Often with my clients, they tell me that they feel an urge, resistance, or some type of block that’s holding them back. They describe it each time to me that they get triggered by a scenario, event, or specific type of activity. It causes them to feel anxiety, panic, and stuck in a cycle they just can’t get out of. So, they have a dilemma. They want to step up and take action in their business, yet a part of them is holding them back, and they have no idea how to fix it. If that’s you and you’re reading this thinking, okay, I’m stuck, what do I do about it? The good news is that you have so much control over your thinking that you don’t even realize it. Change is possible once you accept that it is. Start off by becoming self-aware. You can’t fix something that you are not aware of. You only noticed your blinking because I made you aware of it. What habits are you in, and are they helping or hindering you? Take a pen and paper. Write down the triggers and situations where you feel stuck. Look for the pattern; it’s there when you look close enough. Write down the following affirmations: · I am good enough to do this; · I am successful, confident, and self-assured; Record them in your voice and play them daily Practice mindfulness to calm your mind and focus on being present to clear distractions. When you want to change something, two things are key: being consistent and; being persistent. First consistency in your thoughts, then in your actions, and once those two are aligned, you’ll see your results. - Learn The 5 Critical Steps To Achieving Your Goals
Written by: Edmund Ellison, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. We all want to succeed in business. I remember speaking to a coaching client recently who said that she was struggling with imposter syndrome, procrastination, and a lack of action on her goals. She wanted to launch an offer and had been lowering her price, making tweaks, and generally procrastinating. It felt like a conflict of interests; here, she was passionate and wanted to empower her own clients to overcome mindset blocks, and yet she was experiencing the same thing that she was qualified to help others with. The one thing that was really bothering her was that she couldn’t figure out why. When I worked with her, I explained that we all enter habits and patterns because our minds like to automate. We’re not always aware of these, and when we probed deeper into the problem through our strategy session, she realized that her procrastination was an indirect symptom of imposter syndrome. What’s your pattern? She would go to work on an offer, then find that she’d overthink, overanalyze , and start doubting everything leading to stress, overwhelm, and anxiety. Questions she mentioned during our session included: Will people buy this? Am I good enough to teach this? Is it worth this price? She’d then find that she would start working on her website or going on Facebook to look for leads and start liking posts and engaging. There was a pattern to her behavior ; she just hadn’t noticed it until I pointed it out. Change your thinking, change your habits, change your results . Research by Duke University found that 40% of our actions are based on habits, so when I explained this to her, she started to recognize she was stuck on autopilot doing things that were not serving her or her clients. Sheeran (2002), in the Journa l of the Academy of Marketing Science, found that “intentions explain only 28% of the variance in behavior.” This appears to suggest that just because we intend to do something doesn’t translate into that future action being completed. For my client, the breakthrough was realizing that her fear of failure and being criticized was causing her to put things off because she didn’t believe she was good enough. So given that figure of 28%, it’s important to be consistent with what we can control and develop habits that drive the right behaviors . If you’re feeling stuck, here are 5 critical steps that you should take to achieve your goals: Set an intention – research by Cornell University found that when we take ownership of something, we’re less likely to give up. Face your fear – if you’ve been putting off a goal, consider that your habits have been normalized around it. By investing in mindset support such as hypnosis, you can change your thinking quickly, leading to a change in behavior and better results. Get clear on the result – by visualizing the end goal in your mind and writing down the goal as a clear, tangible, measurable result with a timeframe, it makes it real. Add it to your calendar – if it’s not in the diary, it doesn’t get done Accountability – According to a study by the ATSD, your chances of successfully achieving a goal increase to 95% when you have an accountability coach or partner to work with you and hold you to your actions. To increase your chances of achieving your goals, you first need to consider what’s influencing your decision-making. When you change your thinking, you’ll change your behavior and then your results. - 5 Steps To Develop A Winning Sales Mindset
Written by: Edmund Ellison, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. A few years back, I was sitting in a sales, train the trainer session. Our instructor had many years of experience and was talking about how important mindset was in driving results. This all made sense to me as I reflected on the importance of a strong mindset to implement strategies. It reminded me of ‘The Tale Of Two Shoe Salesmen’ where one salesman seen an opportunity that the other didn’t. Frequently, I find that my clients have searched for several strategies, yet something still feels missing. They are clever, pro-active people who want to figure it out for themselves, and they do everything you’d expect a diligent person to do. They sign up for masterclasses, they watch webinars, participate in Facebook challenges, YouTube, and Google solutions. Yet things are not clicking into place for them. And they wonder why. Mindset or a set mind? Why is this not working for me because it’s not down to effort or implementing test and measure? They feel that something is holding them back. It feels like it’s always been there, a resistance that they can’t seem to breakthrough. One of the salesmen couldn’t see the opportunity. I would say that it’s very possible rather than it being a skill or will issue, that he just couldn’t see the opportunity because he wasn’t looking for it. Sometimes our mindsets have a filter on. Most people only see what they want to see and what aligns with their worldview. So, if we secretly doubt that we’re good enough or fear success, even failure, our minds have a strange way of protecting us. We end up self-sabotaging and doing the exact opposite of what we intended. And so, thinking back to that training I did a few years back when the word mindset was used, it feels like déjà vu again. I see it so often now across the internet and on sales training webinars. Time for an upgrade? We’re told we need to upgrade our mindset yet how can PowerPoint slides, training or coaching sessions succeed here? I acknowledge how important they are and accept that they do get results, however, I wonder, are they enough? If what’s driving our mindset and our behaviour is rooted in our subconscious (having been imprinted there because of a past event or trauma that caused us to feel fear), then are we not trying to push through a resistance that doesn’t want to go and is likely to return? Where is that covered in the training or coaching to set us up for success? I’ve seen a lot of clients who’ve come into business development or new business owners terrified to pick up the phone for outbound dialing or afraid to present in person or virtually. They struggle to show up and close. It’s not because they don’t know their stuff or have the knowledge to succeed. They have the script or plan, know the techniques, and on paper they’re ready. Has it fixed the issue? No. Yet they are told to level up their mindset and get on with it. The anxiety, fear, and self-doubt haven’t gone away though. Is there a chance they’ll quit because of that? Possibly, if they have spent a long time normalizing this feeling and creating habits around it. How do we fix what we can’t see? And therein lies a great paradigm with mindset. Everyone talks about it, yet how many really understand that change comes from within? To get lasting change, you need to be prepared to do inner work, to change your thoughts, your habits, and beliefs. Are you ready? I help clients to understand at a subconscious level what has been holding them back and reframe it, so they can increase confidence and enhance emotional resilience. I hold them accountable to their goals and empower them to use the mindset shifts, so results show up in weeks rather than months. If you’d like to develop a winning sales mindset, here are 5 things you can do: Be you - Recognise that you are only human. You have strengths and limitations. Be comfortable with who you are and stop trying to be someone you’re not. Take the time to work on your limitations and create a plan of action that involves feedback, practice, and reflection. Be proud - Wear failure like a badge and acknowledge what you’ve learned. You’ve earned that experience to make you even better at what you do. Be bold – that worry you feel inside about taking a risk is trying to keep you in a safe place. You won’t know what you haven’t tried. So, ask yourself, what have I to lose here if I do this? Then reflect on what have I to lose if I don’t do this? Be ready – staying current with your market, product, and client relationships will empower you to feel confident. Be mindful - take time to focus on self-care, wellbeing, and your mindset. Investing in you is one of the most important things you can spend your time on yet it’s the last priority on most peoples’ minds until it’s too late. - The 3R's To Developing A Resilient Mind
Written by: Edmund Ellison, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. When people think of resilience, we often imagine a concept of mental toughness. Resilience could be described as a process of adapting to various factors such as trauma, adversity, or threats. It’s a topic I wanted to write about because since Covid I’ve been speaking to more and more people who feel burnt out, exhausted and finding it hard to stay motivated. Let me ask you this, do you find yourself lately staring into your laptop wondering where the time has gone? Do you hear that inner voice whispering, causing you to feel demotivated and doubting your decisions? Resilience is personal to everyone. Maybe you’ve spent a while trying different strategies, showing up and getting ghosted by clients or facing a list of objections. A recent client of mine was in that very position. They had been trying to get clients for a while and no matter what they tried, nothing was working. They described it to me like this, ‘how do you stay motivated every day when no one wants to buy from you. It’s disheartening and makes you wonder if it’s just me that they don’t want to buy from’. It was very personal for them, and they experienced it like this before we worked together. Every rejection was just another hammer blow that slowly chipped away at their inner core. Being resilient is hard. We learn from repetition. It affects our mood, our self-esteem. We develop experiential confidence through our achievements. Yet when the opposite happens, and we go through a sustained period of rejection something curious happens. We start to doubt ourselves, our abilities and this causes us to start playing small, procrastinating, and not showing up. Fixed vs Growth Mindset After a while, it’s likely our mindset will switch from growth to fixed and each person’s view of the world changes with it. So, in that mindset, being resilient is tough because we’ve tied success to our self-worth. Succeeding was the only option, to prove something to ourselves, our families, and friends. So, when things are not working out, it’s hard not to take things personally, as my client had described because we’d have to admit we were wrong. Yet, everything in life is a learning experience, although it’s hard to see it that way unless your mindset switched from fixed to growth. The 3 R’s This is where the 3 R’s can help you to navigate your way back from a fixed mindset, to seeing a situation objectively and taking action: Reality – examine your current reality without the lens of emotional thinking. Write down exactly what you are feeling, what you are doing and question the validity. There are likely reasons why people don’t want to buy: copywriting, the offer, emotional hooks, or maybe they don’t know you well enough. What have you tried? It is unlikely to work the first time. Test and measure several times before giving up on a strategy. Reason – understand your reason why. Motivation comes from within. We are more likely to maintain resilience if we have a strong enough reason to push through. Create a vision board and use it to regain your focus when things seem difficult. Visualise your success using the board and picture yourself having achieved the goals using all your senses. Role – give your inner critic a new role. Assign them the job of your inner coach. They will remind you of every success, to celebrate your failures as wins, to see everything as a learning opportunity. Each day practice gratitude because even a setback can be seen as a valuable experience for adjusting your strategy. By reflecting daily on the 3 R’s we can start to separate emotion from logical thinking and reframe our negative thoughts to positive ones. Emotion drives us and it will continue to run on autopilot until we step in with logic. Adapting to difficult situations is never easy. Like a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it becomes. Take the free self-assessment to find out your resilience score. For more info, follow me on Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , or visit my website for more info! Read more from Edmund! - Downward Spiral – How To Build Resilience Through Curiosity
Written by: Janet Caliri, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. I’m sharing my personal story with the intention to inspire you, the reader, to reflect on how your hardships and vulnerabilities can help you find your passions and calling in life. Here is a story about how pain and curiosity can lead to connection with the Universe: Wailing and flailing on the floor of my childhood bedroom, eyes locked on the round rug, I recall – life is not linear. Through blurry eyesight, I notice the pink swirls on the white rug, spiraling around me. I avert my gaze and stare at the hardwood floors and stark white walls through puffy eyes, seeking solace in the warm fuzzy clothes on my back. Its daylight. I feel like I’ve been wrenching for hours, bawling my eyes out. My tongue feels like a toxic stew of trash coming out of my mouth. Again, I recall – life is not linear. How did I get here? I don’t want to think about it anymore. It’s been days, or weeks, or longer. I’m so done with it, with everything! Where is my motivation to get off this floor – to go into the next room, to do anything? I’ve known my purpose in life, igniting human potential, and I always thought that would be enough. But it appears, it is not. How can that be? If it’s true that it’s not enough, what can I do? What’s next? Here I am, a sick adult, and on the floor of my childhood bedroom. I don’t know where I am going to get the motivation to heal. And live. Like a tube of toothpaste having its insides squeezed out, I surrender to this moment. I am humbled. Dear Life, “What?! What will motivate me to move forward, to heal, and be of service once again? Because at this juncture, I am done with life, yet I know the muted spark remains, so… what?!” I drop the question into an imaginary pink bubble on its way into the ethers. I go on with my day. Days go by, and yet again I’m on the floor. I don’t want to be here, but this seems to be where the answers come. This is a safe place in some regards, and I have a roof over my head. In a state of curiosity and connection with the Universe, the answer whispers in my ear: CREATION. “Okay, thanks and SO WHAT?! Now what?” This abiding in the state of curiosity is working well, so I leave the question again to circle in the air around me, unanswered. After what feels like an exorbitant amount of time, the ethers finally nudge me with a pop-up command: Take pictures of your emotions. All of them, not just the ones you like. I obeyed this command and asked myself: What does relief look like? What does compassion look like? What does anger look like? The closed bedroom door for privacy. Click. A selfie through the mirror with me curling back my lips, squinting my eyes, scrunching my forehead. Click. This stupid overactive heater vent that won’t close. Click. Clicking away, I notice a release of the heat from my veins. How does that happen with just three clicks with a smartphone camera? This feels more like a choice rather than a “have to” be here, like a crack into freedom. I recall the answer I felt about CREATION and realized – I am creating with curiosity and a camera! With each click, I am being present with my emotions. At that moment, I realized that my relationship with my emotions was a blockage, and that specific type of creation, through mindful photography, could help release that blockage. These energy forms that are meant to be simply observed, yet typically are met with resistance, no longer had power over me. I felt elated. I reminded myself that emotions are energy in motion and must move through us like a river: when I attempt to control them, by either pushing away, changing or attaching, I am creating blocks and scars in my energy body. Over time, these river blockages led to my conditioned fears, limiting beliefs, and a variety of illnesses. Over time, I recognized that this photographic process is my ticket to freedom from illness and limiting beliefs which hold me back from my potential. Just a few months after publishing my first book, Me With Me, I was being tested on self-love, self-care, self-honor. Ha! I am my first client! Over the next two years, I received two more significant messages from the Universe. The second: use a camera to track subtle evidences of my progress. The third: use a camera to capture what triggers my emotions to significantly reduce the emotional charge. I happily obeyed the instructions, which lead me to more ease, joy, clarity, and personal power. I started finding ways to share this knowledge with others. I understood that emotional blockages and lack of emotional intelligence are most likely to occur during times of life transition and uncertainty – you may recall, life is not linear. That is why I’ve shared my Visible Transitions program with those going through life transitions, in ALL stages of life, to help them go from overwhelmed to overjoyed using curiosity and a smartphone camera, just like I did. My program helps people gain understanding, compassion, empathy, and a sense of belonging. People can experience peace of mind by minimizing unnecessary resistance to what is. - Would You Like To Detox From The Online Hustle Culture?
Written by: Andrea Cristancho, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. We have been using the term hustle as a badge of honour for quite some time in the online space, and I am drawing a line in the sand. From now on, I shout from the rooftops: No Hustle! I mean, to work hard is good and ethical, to be passionate at what you do, to do it with heart, and enjoy the sweat of your labor is honorable. But what is not needed is to believe that you need to hustle in order to be rewarded and fulfill your dreams. So let's look at the term hustle: to crowd or push roughly. Merriam-webster dictionary. It just leaves me puzzled, how did we start using this expression in the first place? Yes, I know we use this more as an expression than its original meaning, but the reality is that in the online business world to proudly hustle has become the north star for many aspiring entrepreneurs. It leaves us all drained, pushed, frustrated, and burned out. The hustle is real, they say. I say the burnout is pretty real too. Hence, let's change the narrative. The power of your words can influence your behavior if you let it. So, I am leading the conversation with No Hustle folks. Let us all align our business with our deep-rooted desires, the real reason we started our business in the first place. And, integrate our health and business goals aiming to design the lifestyle that fits your 5, 6, and 7 figure business. Starting with a detox. That is right, let me introduce to you the mechanisms to flush your system on demand in simple steps. First, identify your mindset traps. Why do you believe you have to run yourself to the ground in order to reach success in your business? Could it be a money-limiting belief? Second, declutter your systems. I mean, set systems, not goals, and once your systems are in place you build habits around them. For example, implementing a four-day workweek, seasonal launches, morning routines, etc. Third, learn how to measure your energy. When you become aware of your energy levels throughout the day you can optimize your output without extra effort. Followed by self-auditing and coming up with a plan. That is right. Let me ask you, what is your CEO lifestyle? Now that you run your own business and have become your own boss, how do you show up as a leader? How do you audit your health, your business and your environment on a regular basis? When we measure our performance we can then optimize it and grow, right? Why not set regular quarterly audits in place and draft a plan to bring you back to focus, or let it continue its growth. The power of 90-day plans allows you to course correct or double down in a short amount of time. Focusing on the power of the five ones to stay laser-focused for growth. I mean, the day I heard for the first time the rule of five by Clay Collins my bells rang. Wouldn't you agree focus beats hustle any time of the day? So, as it goes, you choose one product, one target market, one conversion tool, one source of traffic, and you do them all for one year. Brilliant! Then, learn how to manage your energy instead of your time, tapping into your energy pockets to create and stay creative. You see, when we sync to nature's wisdom, we gain the natural momentum of Earth to then choose in which season we push harder or slow down. Instead of going against the flow, we opt to flow with it in our favor. How? There are various ways, but one that is simple and easy to implement is by following the lunar cycle. Pay attention to your energy on a new and a full moon for starters, then go ahead and learn about implementing this into your workflow and lifestyle. Sooner than you can notice it will only be natural and there is no way going back, trust me. Most importantly, breathe to recharge daily and build healthy practices in your routine. Now, yes we all breathe naturally but are you breathing properly? The aim is slow, long, light in and out-breath through your nose. Try to apply this as a starting point. Then, go on to draft your own energy roadmap to follow and come back to. We can not forget to mention that food is your fuel and you have got to be mindful of your nutrition. Sugar, caffeine, energy drinks, and all these shouldn't be even considered food in the first place. So, when we reach for them to keep our energy levels high, just know that plane is bound to crash. Instead, keep it in the air by eating whole nutritious foods. The real secret, the power of yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a guided, deep, restful meditation that will take you to tap into your subconscious remaining in an awake state. It is called the Yogic Sleep because it allows you to feel rested in the shortest amount of time. If you have never practiced, let this be your official invitation. By applying these bits of knowledge in a short amount of time you will begin to detox from the online hustle environment, and most importantly, you will be able to set healthy boundaries to become the CEO of your health, life, and business your way. Lastly, you are welcome to The No Hustle Club. The place where we come together to learn and practice the best ways to grow our businesses with optimal health in a high-frequency community. - Four Unexpected Tips To Increase Both Productivity And Life Balance
Written by: S. Ryanne Stellingwerf, Executive Contributor Executive Contributors at Brainz Magazine are handpicked and invited to contribute because of their knowledge and valuable insight within their area of expertise. Having routines is a great way to maximize productivity. Most highly successful people work with routines and excel by embracing them. But sometimes we get so comfortable in those routines and productivity, that we struggle to get away and recharge. We need to recharge regularly or our habits become blinders that hinder us from seeing opportunities and improved ways of performing. Our productivity will begin to decline and our paths become ruts. Taking a bit of time to recharge allows us to see things from a new perspective, increases our energy and motivation, and gives our creativity room to blossom. Here are four tips to help you get away both for a recharge and for productivity. 1. Working Vacations When was the last time you took time away from the office to actually get things accomplished? When we need to be creative but have schedules, meetings, phone calls, and disruptions, that can be challenging. One tool to use is to take a working vacation. I see clients weekly, but still need time to write. Working vacations serve to give me that time. If you regularly create blog posts, you may get six months’ worth done on one working vacation. You might get your website fine-tuned, get a portion of a book done, or compose your next album. Changing your environment, getting away from the chores, routines, and daily obligations can give your mind the space it needs to create much more freely than trying to get it done between phone calls For some, this solution can sound simple, and it is, but have you tried it? Try planning ahead for time away just to be creative. When you do, keep in mind what type of environment will best serve you for that. Do you need a spectacular view out your window? A beautiful porch to sit on while you type? What kind of food will suit you best? Do you want to get away and eat at a restaurant, or do you prefer to get into a zone and have food delivered? Do you prefer a kitchenette to heat up food you make in advance and bring so that there are no interruptions? If you’ve never taken a working vacation in this way, you may not yet know what does work best for you. That’s okay. Give it a try. Experiment. You will learn and refine with experience. 2. Explore nature There are studies showing that being in nature is good for us physically, mentally, and emotionally. Many of us can get caught up in driving to work, working in a building, hurrying home to prepare dinner, and spending the evening zoning out. Taking a walk in a park, down the road, or just sitting watching the world go by is a great way to renew and refresh. When was the last time you took time to gaze at a tree? Better yet, grow a plant. Watch the birds. Believe it or not, there is a therapy technique called “earthing.” Very basically, this is the act of taking your shoes off and walking barefoot. When we have to give something so simple as an official name, it seems we as a whole are not doing what we naturally evolved to do. 3. Be a tourist How often have you taken the time to explore your home town or home state? When I ask my local clients if they’ve ever been to Yellowstone National Park for example, too many of them say “not yet.” Yellowstone National Park is visited by people from all over the world, and these people living only a couple of hours away from it haven’t even ventured to see it! Exploring those tourist attractions in your area can give you a break without you having to take vacation time. Head out for an afternoon, a weekend, or an evening. Take a few hours or days to escape your everyday and enjoy what your state has to offer. If you just look, ask around, and do a bit of research, you should be able to find different things within a short drive of you or maybe even within walking distance. Explore a museum, enjoy a zip-line, have a picnic in a park, hike some local trails, etc. I have yet to live in a place without tourist attractions even when I’ve lived in small towns. And I have yet to live in a place where the locals spend their time enjoying those tourist attractions. Just because they will be there tomorrow, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy them today. A few hours breaking routine can help clear your mind so you can return with more focus and inspiration. 4. Plan ahead How many times have you said “I’m going to take a vacation in July,” but here it is September, and you still haven’t taken a vacation this year? Employees frequently have to pre-plan their vacations. They have X number of days per year and they have to get approval in advance. Those who are self-employed or some high achievers, however, can put off their plans and end up skipping vacations entirely. This is where pre-planning comes in. Plan your finances so that you can get paid for that time and schedule your vacations for the year, at the beginning of the year. Make those reservations, let your clients, employees, and “need to know folks” know in advance, and take that time. If you don’t plan your vacations at the beginning of the year, another effective tool is to take a bit of time at the end of one vacation to plan your next one. This can be quite effective as you are in vacation mode already and might have an easier time committing to another one. So start now to decide how you are going to get away for balance and productivity. Pre-plan for those larger breaks, be a local tourist for a daybreak, explore nature for a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, and plan a working vacation for those times when you need to get something done, but also need a change of atmosphere. Try any or all of these tips and watch your productivity climb. Visit my website for more info! Read more from Ryanne! S.
