There are no coincidences in our encounters in life. Some are here to stay for a short while, others for a long, long time, yet some for only a fraction of a moment. People who laugh together stay together, and people who are always serious together ‘sashay away’.

People wearing face shields having a discussion in an office. One holds a blue clipboard, and they appear to be smiling. Neutral background.

I recently met an exceptional woman, an expert in her field, and a few days ago, we had a conversation about laughter, core values, and menopause. We also covered many other topics, and I think we could have chatted for hours had it not been for dinnertime approaching and the dog jumping on the sofa.

We laughed and talked and laughed some more, and when I left the conversation, I was uplifted and cheerful.

The truth is that many things in life are serious, and profound experiences can cause trauma and deep seriousness.

Some events and people we leave behind and blank out, never to think about again. Other memories may shape us more than we’d like to think.

Early events happen, and we make decisions to be a certain way based on what we thought they meant. We then go on to live our lives as if those beliefs were the truth, taking a child’s decision and living it as an adult.

From an early age, we become meaning-making machines.

Instead of becoming stifled in our tracks, we must grab our laughter and bring it forward so we can cope and hold onto a little bit of our sanity in this oftentimes confused, insane existence.

Laughter is what brings meaning to everything and unravels those decisions we made as children, so we can make new choices to be strong, empowered, humane beings who stand out for the right reasons.

And along the way, we may need other people, and that is when they arrive on our path as if by magic.

Speaking with me about mental health and Laughter Yoga in the workplace, for team bonding, stress reduction, mental health boosts, and your organisation’s wellbeing altogether, is an easy conversation to have.
