What It Truly Means to Experience Joy and Clarity

The real transformation behind holistic life coaching, and why it matters. After losing connection to everything that once defined her, including relationships, identity, and even the ability to feel, this is a journey through nervous system shutdown, deep inner reconstruction, and the return to joy and clarity as lived, embodied states.

There was a point where everything was stripped away


There was a period in my life where everything I once identified with was taken away, including my friendships, my business, my marriage, my social life, and my confidence. Even my connection to my children felt distant, as though I was physically present but not fully there in the way I had once been.


What I experienced during that time was not sadness in the way people might expect, nor was it heartbreak in its usual form. Instead, it was an overwhelming sense of nothingness, a complete absence of feeling that is difficult to articulate unless you have lived through it yourself.


In neuroscience, this state is referred to as dorsal vagal shutdown, a protective response where the nervous system powers down after prolonged stress or overwhelm. However, even that term does not fully capture the reality of what it feels like to exist in that space. It is not simply disconnection, but a kind of internal absence, where you continue to function externally while something within you has gone quiet.


I continued to study, qualify, and work, and from the outside, it may have appeared as though I was coping. But the truth is that there are years of my life that I cannot fully remember. I was breathing, eating, and existing, but I was not truly alive, and the most confronting part of that experience was realizing that I had shut down my capacity to love.


When everything turns grey


Before everything unraveled, love was at the core of who I was, shaping the way I experienced the world and everything within it. I found joy in nature, animals, sunsets, moonrises, using my imagination, creativity, music, and silliness until your stomach hurts. I moved through life with a deep sense of feeling and connection to the seen and unseen.


Over time, however, all of that began to fade, not into darkness, but into something far more subtle and difficult to detect. Everything became grey, as though I were moving through a constant fog where nothing fully reached me and nothing truly resonated.


A decade of disconnection


If I were to measure that period of my life, I would say that I spent close to a decade in that state, although it did not occur all at once. Instead, it came in waves across two decades, creating long stretches of time where I felt disconnected from myself and from life as a whole.


That is a significant portion of a lifetime to spend in a state of disconnection, and it is something that reshapes you in ways that are not always immediately visible.


The return was not instant


What brought me back was not a single moment of clarity or a sudden breakthrough, but rather a gradual and often challenging process of returning to myself. It required me to peel back the layers of who I had become in order to survive, and to slowly begin remembering who I was underneath it all.


There were periods of deep withdrawal where much of this work happened internally and out of sight, and during that time, I explored a wide range of modalities, not out of curiosity alone, but from a genuine need to understand and reconnect.


I engaged with numerology, human design, spiritual archetypes, ancestral healing, past life work, akashic records, psychotherapy, energy healing, sound healing, reiki, EFT, and many other approaches, some of which had clear structures and names, while others were more intuitive and harder to define. Each of these experiences contributed in some way, helping to bring parts of me back online and allowing me to reconnect with aspects of myself that had been dormant.


Not all paths are linear


Over time, I began to understand that not everything we experience is random, and that some paths are inherently non-linear in nature. There are lives that unfold through cycles of breakdown and reconstruction, where destruction and rebirth become part of the process rather than something to be avoided.


These paths often involve periods of isolation, both chosen and imposed, as well as moments where identity is stripped away entirely. While these experiences can feel like loss or punishment at the time, they can also serve as a form of preparation, creating space for something more aligned to emerge.


The paradox of healing


There is a paradox within healing work that becomes clear through experience, you cannot guide someone through a place you have not been yourself. In order to heal, you must first go through the process personally, and in order to teach, you must first learn.


More importantly, in order to truly learn, you must also be willing to unlearn, letting go of the beliefs, identities, and patterns that no longer serve you.


What joy really is


I understood that joy has different meanings and faces. Collectively, through client work, studies, and my own life experience, it presents itself as something much deeper and more grounded. Joy is presence, and it is the ability to fully inhabit a moment rather than simply moving through it.


It involves reconnecting with your senses, noticing colour, sound, texture, and energy in a way that feels real again. It is also about allowing the heart to open, even after it has been closed as a form of protection.


Joy requires honesty, particularly in the way you see yourself. It asks you to acknowledge every version of who you have been, including the child, the teenager, and the adult who adapted in order to survive. Rather than rejecting those versions of yourself, joy allows you to integrate them, holding them with recognition and respect.


It is also important to recognize that joy is not limited to light or easy emotions. The ability to feel deeply, including the capacity to cry and process grief, is part of joy itself, because grief reflects connection and shows that something meaningful once existed.


Joy can also be found in simple yet powerful forms of reconnection, such as music, art, nature, the sea, and the vastness of the sky, all of which have the ability to bring you back into a sense of presence and awareness.


What clarity really is


Clarity is often described as understanding, but in its truest form, it is truth without distortion. It is the ability to see your life, your experiences, and your patterns clearly, without the influence of projection, blame, or confusion.


One of the most significant aspects of clarity is recognizing that there were times when you were carrying things that were never yours to begin with. This can include the pain, limitations, and unresolved experiences of others that were projected onto you and absorbed over time.


Clarity is not about assigning fault, but about seeing accurately and understanding where responsibility begins and ends. It involves recognizing that while some experiences were not consciously chosen, they still played a role in shaping who you have become.


For me, clarity began to emerge when I made a conscious decision to stop turning against myself. I stopped reinforcing narratives that diminished me and instead began to recognize what was true, grounded, and real.


It is also important to understand that clarity is not only psychological but physiological. It is connected to the nervous system, moving out of shutdown and into a state of safety, where the body no longer needs to disconnect in order to cope.


As this shift occurs, awareness naturally sharpens, patterns become more visible, and experiences that once felt confusing begin to make sense. What previously felt chaotic starts to organize itself into a clearer understanding.


Clarity requires belief, not in external validation, but in your own perception and ability to see yourself accurately.


Why this work matters


It is easy to underestimate what someone has lived through because, from the outside, we often only see what is functional and composed. Beneath that surface, there can be years, sometimes decades, of survival, silence, and internal rebuilding. This is why this work matters, because it is not about surface-level change. It’s about returning to yourself in a way that is real, embodied, and lasting.


The clarity reset method


The work I do is rooted in what I have lived, studied, and embodied over decades, and it has evolved into what I now call The Clarity Reset Method.


This is not a one-size-fits-all approach, and it is not about quick fixes or surface-level shifts.


The Clarity Reset Method is a process that works at multiple levels simultaneously, supporting the nervous system to move out of survival states, untangling internalized patterns and projections, and guiding you back into a clear, grounded sense of who you are.


Through this work, we focus on reconnecting you to your own perception, truth, and internal stability, so that clarity is no longer something you search for, but something you live from. Through that, the capacity to experience daily joy becomes truly lived again.
