In today’s fast-moving global economy—where family offices, real estate portfolios, and private investments intersect—financial strategy isn’t optional. It’s essential. Jessica Jung, CFP®, a bi-coastal wealth planner based in Tennessee and California, has spent over two decades guiding high-net-worth individuals and entrepreneurs through the complexities of wealth protection, growth, and transfer.  Although rooted in the U.S. system, her strategic approach offers valuable insights for business owners and families worldwide.

“Whether you’re building in Silicon Valley or running a legacy business in Asia or Europe, the same truth applies,” she says. “Your wealth is often tied to your company. If you don’t plan your exit, someone else will write the ending.”

Jessica’s wealth philosophy centers on proactive planning, legal structure, and intelligent risk management. No matter the country or currency, one principle endures: strategic planning is as much as about mindset as it is about mechanics.  “People don’t see the storm coming until it hits,” she often says. “Structure is protection.”  That belief is born from personal experience.

From Immigrant Roots to Financial Leadership

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Jessica immigrated to the U.S. at age two and was raised in Florida. She earned her academic foundation at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, a rigorous institution that, in her words, “rewarded curiosity as a way of life.”

She studied economics at Vanderbilt University and entered the financial world in the early 2000s—a period of both innovation and instability.

Her early career at firms like Morgan Stanley and LPL Financial exposed her to a hard truth: even successful people can lose everything without structure.

Founding Vast Wealth Advisors

In 2021, after years in traditional institutions, Jessica launched Vast Wealth Advisors to provide independent, transparent advice. Today, her firm serves clients nationwide and increasingly across borders, with offices in both Palo Alto and Nashville.

Her work focuses on three universal pillars:

  • Tax minimization

  • Business exit planning

  • Vehicles for Asset Protection

“The concerns are universal,” she explains. “How do I keep more of what I earn? How do I shield it from unnecessary risk? How do I ensure it gets to the next generation with as little loss as possible?”

Tax Strategy for Aging Business Owners

Jessica often sees missed opportunities among business owners approaching retirement.

“If you’re in your 60s and still running a company, there may be ways to defer hundreds of thousands of dollars into tax-advantaged retirement plans,” she says. “In the U.S., some married owners can defer up to $1 million if both are active in the business.”

The concept holds true across many financial systems: strategic contributions to retirement plans, owner and key employee compensation structures, and investment vehicles are key to reducing tax burdens while preparing for exit.

“Most people don’t plan. They react,” she warns. “And by the time they react, it’s already costly.”

Why 70% of Businesses Don’t Sell

Jessica is candid: “Seventy percent of businesses that go up for sale don’t sell.”

Often, it’s not because of the business model—but because of a lack of planning.

Buyers want operational independence, clean financials, and recurring revenue. “You should start preparing five years before you plan to sell,” she advises. That includes:

  • Removing personal expenses from the business

  • Increasing your profit margins

  • Reducing risks such as customer concentration

  • Securing key employees

  • Documenting systems and procedures

  • Getting a professional valuation

“It’s not just about valuation—it’s about transferability.”

Asset Protection Through Legal Structures

Jessica is an advocate of proactive legal planning. “Wealthy individuals rarely own assets in their own name,” she explains. “They use entities like trusts or corporations—not to hide, but to protect.”

Legal structures can offer insulation from lawsuits, creditor claims, and even family disputes. The specifics vary by jurisdiction, but the guiding principle is constant: use the law to safeguard what you’ve built.

“In a world where your name is searchable in seconds, anonymity is part of financial security,” she adds.

Planning for Political and Economic Shifts

Jessica’s guidance extends beyond spreadsheets. She tracks inflation, tariffs, trade regulations, and currency volatility.

“This isn’t about politics—it’s about preparation,” she says. “If you operate internationally, you need a plan for how different tax regimes, exchange rates, and regulatory shifts can affect your bottom line.”

Her advice: Don’t try to predict the future. Build a cushion before volatility hits.

A Life Structured Around Purpose

Jessica’s guidance comes not just from expertise but lived experience. She has served on the boards of Partners Financial, is a member of FINSECA and the Financial Planning Association and actively supports organizations such as Autism Speaks, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Special Olympics.

She’s also a classically trained pianist and maintains a disciplined fitness regimen—habits that reflect her structured, long-view approach to both life and finance.

“Wealth is measured by what you safeguard, the plans you put in place, and the legacy you leave behind,” she says.

That message, though born in America, speaks to business owners everywhere.
