Sound healing, in brief, is the ancient practice of utilizing sound and music to promote healing within individuals. You have probably felt the healing effects of your favorite music in times of grief, depression, anger, or loneliness. It is a real experience that needs no scientific explanation, but sometimes you may want to dive deeper and understand the details of the bigger picture. This is where the vagus nerve comes in.

How the vagus nerve plays a crucial role in your healing
The human parasympathetic nervous system, which governs rest and digest mode, is equipped with a very important component called the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve in turn is divided into two branches: the ventral vagus nerve and the dorsal vagus nerve.
What science and polyvagal theory tell us, is that when we feel safe, our nervous system enables our body to relax and start restoring itself. The ventral vagus nerve is activated when we feel safe within us and in our environment, while the dorsal vagus nerve helps our body to balance and switch between stimulation and relaxation. However, when our sympathetic nervous system is too aroused, the dorsal vagus nerve freezes the system and we go into a fight or flight response. This is how trauma is created in the body. Our emotions, which are life force energy in motion, freeze in the event of a fight or flight response, and are left stuck inside the tissue of the body until it is liberated through release and healing.
Emotional numbness and burnout: An epidemic of our time
When you have been living in high stress, with an overactivated sympathetic nervous system for long enough, the absence of emotion (or energy in motion) becomes apparent in the form of emotional numbness. It feels like you have lost the ability to feel deeply. This is a form of burnout that many, if not the majority of human beings, suffer from in today's world. If you ask these people how they feel, they might simply say, “I don’t know.” The truth is that when your emotions have stopped flowing, your system is clogged with energetic blockages that reduce your vitality, performance, and well-being. It is a form of soul loss that we call burnout.
When burnout and emotional numbness have become your reality, you will rely entirely on your mind and your thinking to lead your life. The problem with this is that thoughts cannot be trusted without the support of your emotional guidance system. Your mind, without your emotional compass, can be easily manipulated and distracted. This increases the chance that we take action and go about doing things that are not in alignment with our values, integrity, and the truth of our soul’s desires. Given what the world looks like today, it is quite safe to say that emotional numbness has become nothing short of an epidemic, one that calls for an increased number of safe places where deep feeling and real healing can take place.
Creating the right environment and conditions for feeling and healing
As previously stated, we don’t always need to understand how the nervous system and vagus nerve function, or how healing happens. This is just what the left brain might need as proof to feel convinced and secure. It simply acts as a solid permission slip to prioritize self-healing.
I would argue that the only thing that matters when it comes to your healing is creating the right environment and conditions for feeling safe enough to release the frozen emotions in your physical body. The rest is merely shallow, mental understanding and theories, which your body does not need to regenerate and heal. It already knows how to self-heal, so all you need to do is support it with the right conditions and tools.
Now, the right conditions for your specific healing may not be the same as for Roberto in Spain (unless you who read this are that Roberto living in Spain). But what most of us can agree on is that the power of music and sound can move emotional mountains, which opens our heart and cells to restoration and a palpable upsurge in well-being. If the music makes us feel lighter, we will shine brighter. This is indeed evidence of a healing experience.
Sound healing and medicine music to stimulate your vagus nerve
So, what is music really when we put it under a microscope? It is a collection of sound waves vibrating at different frequencies, which we as humans measure in hertz. And what are sound waves that vibrate at different frequencies? They are energy, like everything else in this universe, including that which we call matter.
All matter is a dance of vibration and space. Though objects appear solid, both science and ancient wisdom remind us that they are made of energy in motion, atoms and quarks pulsing at unique frequencies. Our reality is a web of resonant energies and sound.
Sound is more than vibration, it is a bridge. Through sound healing and medicine music, we attune to higher frequencies, aligning our brain, body, and electromagnetic field with the creative pulse of the universe. The brain, like all things, vibrates. Its rhythms can be guided into deeper states of stillness, where thought quiets and inner presence awakens. This is when your ventral vagus nerve becomes activated, and deep healing of your cells begins to take place.
In these states, theta and delta, the personal merges with the universal. The field harmonizes, balance returns, and we remember: we are not separate, but waves within a greater ocean. Audible sound is merely the surface; beneath it flows the silent symphony of existence. We are both the note and the song, the microcosm reflecting the cosmos, and the cosmos reflecting us. This gives us an understanding of just how positively impactful sound and music can be to our well-being and prosperity.

You deserve to live a life where you are safe to feel and heal
Together with my partner at DJAMA Music, we offer a ceremonial sound journey called Safe To Feel, a sacred space where emotional walls can gently dissolve. This experience is carefully crafted to help you reconnect with what’s been buried beneath numbness, loneliness, and the quiet ache of disconnection from life and self.
Each song is tuned to the heart-aligning frequency of 432 Hz, designed not just to soothe but to awaken. Within this field of resonance, the body is invited to release stored fear, tension, and trauma. It is a deep, somatic experience, where sound becomes medicine, vibration becomes teacher, and presence becomes healer. Humming along to the medicine music or breathing deeply in sync with its rhythms can also stimulate your vagus nerve and allow the magic of your body’s healing to unfold.
Safe To Feel is more than music, it is an invitation to come home to yourself, for those who feel ready to remember and receive.
