Shannon Kobylarczyk’s path has never been a straight line. It’s been shaped by steady determination, a willingness to start over, and a deep commitment to the people who matter most. Her story shows how big ideas often begin with simple values–hard work, resilience, and the courage to try again.

Early roots that shaped a career in law and leadership
Shannon grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in a lively family of five children, three of whom were adopted. The experience taught her early how to listen, adapt, and communicate. “Being fourth out of five, you learn to navigate personalities fast,” she says. “It made me more patient and more aware of others.”
Sports, dance team practices, and long hours reading books filled her days. These habits built a foundation of discipline and curiosity–two traits that later shaped her career.
She graduated from St. Norbert College in just three years with a degree in accounting. “That’s something I’m still proud of,” Shannon says. “I wanted to prove to myself that I could push hard and stay focused.”
A bold decision: Leaving accounting to pursue law
After 12 years in accounting, Shannon felt a pull toward something different. Law had always interested her, but going back to school while working full-time–and raising a young family–felt daunting.
Still, she applied and was accepted into the part-time program at Marquette University Law School. It was the beginning of a five-year run that tested her grit.
On the first day of classes, her oldest son was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Shannon remembers the moment clearly. “I didn’t want to go,” she says. “But my husband and my son’s care team told me, ‘You need to go. This is your dream.’ So I went.”
She continued working full-time, attending night classes, and raising two boys–one born during her years in law school. “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” she says. “But also the most meaningful.”
She graduated in 2009.
Stepping into legal leadership
With her J.D. in hand, Shannon shifted from the accounting world into the legal field. She began as a securities attorney and, over time, expanded her responsibilities.
Her role grew into senior leadership, overseeing securities, corporate governance, ethics and compliance, and the company’s trademark portfolio. Shannon thrived in environments where calm thinking and careful judgment mattered.
“I like structure, clarity, and doing things the right way,” she says. “Law gave me a chance to use those strengths to help organizations stay grounded and do the right thing.”
Her colleagues often relied on her ability to simplify complex ideas and communicate them clearly–a skill she attributes to her upbringing and years of balancing competing demands.
A hard season and a turning point
Later in her career, Shannon experienced a mental health crisis–a period she now reflects on with honesty rather than avoidance.
“I was taking care of everyone except myself,” she explains. “Eventually, that catches up with you.”
The crisis led to a public moment that cost her job. It was painful and humbling, but it also became a turning point.
“I had to face the fact that I was overwhelmed,” she says. “But I also realized I still had the same strengths that built my career–resilience, empathy, and the ability to keep going.”
Shannon chooses not to hide this chapter of her life. Instead, she talks about it because she knows it can help others. “Mental health matters,” she says. “You can come back from hard things.”
What drives her today
Today, Shannon is focused on rebuilding, reflecting, and moving forward with clarity. Family remains at the center of her life–her two sons, now 23 and 18, continue to inspire her.
She fills her days with travel, reading, watching sports, fitness, and baking her famously loved cupcakes. “Cupcakes are my therapy,” she laughs. “It’s creative, and it makes people happy.”
Her career background–spanning accounting, law, governance, and compliance–gives her a wide set of tools. She’s thoughtful about how to use those skills in the next chapter of her life.
“I’ve brought big ideas to life before,” she says. “I know I can do it again. I’m stronger now, not weaker.”
Lessons from a life built on persistence
Shannon’s story resonates because it’s real. It’s not polished or perfect. It’s full of moments where she pushed forward even when the world felt heavy.
Her life shows that big achievements often grow out of everyday traits:
Loyalty
Steady effort
Commitment to family
Willingness to start over
Belief in education and personal growth
Honesty about mental health
As she puts it, “My journey hasn’t been easy. But it’s mine, and I’m proud of where I am.”
Her path continues to evolve, grounded in experience, humility, and a renewed sense of purpose.
