What inspired your transition from monk to digital influencer?

I would say that I never actually set out to be a digital influencer. When I was studying as a monk, I was fascinated by all the ways in which ancient wisdom still applies to today’s challenges. I had this idea that I could find modern ways to share these messages and concepts — that I could use digital platforms and tools to make this ancient wisdom reach and help as many people as possible. That was always my goal.

For me, it all really comes back to my goal of helping people connect with their purpose so they can experience more fulfillment in their lives

What motivated you to start the On Purpose podcast?

I started On Purpose over six years ago with the goal of inviting listeners into conversations and workshops designed to help make them happier, healthier, and more healed. I think there’s so much we can learn from others — from their ideas, perspectives, and experiences. I loved the idea of having fascinating conversations with people from all walks of life and sharing them with the world so we can all learn together. I also think there’s something really powerful in helping people feel seen, heard, and understood. It’s kind of incredible how listening to someone else’s story can provide us with insight about ourselves and our own lives.

What's the core message of your bestselling books?

My books cover a lot of ground, but if there’s a single core message, it would be: keep learning. I’m a big believer in the idea that knowledge is power. For anything you’re struggling with in your life, anything you want to do, any goal you want to achieve, any tool you want to develop — the information is out there. Sometimes it’s not about finding a simple answer; it’s more about discovering an approach or a way of thinking that’s useful. But the point is, if you keep your mind open and stay curious, you can find what you need.

How do your entrepreneurial ventures support your mission?

For me, it all really comes back to my goal of helping people connect with their purpose so they can experience more fulfillment in their lives — and by being a full expression of themselves, contribute something meaningful to the world. I try to keep this intention at the heart of everything I work on, always aiming to offer tools that support people in bettering their lives in ways that feel true and lasting.

How do you integrate philanthropy into your work?

Giving back has always been my passion. During the pandemic, my wife Radhi and I teamed up with GiveIndia and orchestrated an online event that garnered immense support, raising over $5 million in just 24 hours. In 2020, I had the opportunity to partner with Pencils of Promise to help 800 students gain access to education. I’ve also been grateful to support families affected by wildfires through Baby2Baby and to partner with NAMI as an ambassador to help raise awareness for mental health. Whether it’s through the podcast, meditations, or partnerships, I’m always looking for ways to give back, build community, and offer support to anyone who might need it.

What future projects are you excited about?

For the first time ever, I’m taking my On Purpose podcast on tour across North America and Canada this spring. Join me for engaging conversations with a surprise celebrity guest, wellness expert, or influential leader in each city. I’ll guide audiences through live meditations, share groundbreaking insights, and create powerful moments of inspiration designed to deepen connections, spark growth, and foster learning at every stop. This tour is an incredible milestone — an opportunity to step beyond the screen and meet the amazing community that’s been part of this journey. It’s a chance to take what we’ve built digitally and experience it in a way that’s personal, transformative, and truly unforgettable. Hope to see you there — head to jayshetty.me/tour!
